I enjoyed their back and forth banter and the chemistry they shared. I felt like I learned a bit about Japanese culture and about the icons they use to represent the dead and afterlife. I would recommend doing as many side quests as possible because the main campaign will only take a few days to complete if you streamline it. They’re definitely worth it and not fetch quests. Expand

20 hours in and I'm enjoying every bit about it. The quality graphics mode is something cyberpunk developers can learn from. The gameplay mechanics are very unique and the most important part of the game - city of Tokyo itself is super well detailed and VERY atmospheric. Enjoying the story so far as well and there is a lot to love about japanese folklore.

It was hard to get used to at first, and I had to HEAVILY tweak the controller sensitivity settings. By the end though, I was genuinely sad it was over despite almost 100% completion. The story, lore, side quests, and characters are engaging and the combat is epic once you get the hang of it. Bonus points: At the late stages of the game you feel like a fricken super hero.

This didn't happen to me, the side quests got old really fast and I couldn't be bothered to complete them,if I did, it was out of necessity. I understand that the world hasn't got much NPCs because it makes sense for the plot, but I feel like they could have made something work so that it didn't feel so boring and without any notable cool second characters or NPCs. Also I'd have like that they would have implemented some cooler animations for parkour, at least when jumping to something they could have made the hands hang on or something. Expand

A fun first person game with a nice abandoned Tokyo setting, swarmed with urban creatures. The open world aspect of the game is really nice and takes first person gaming in a new direction. Would highly recommend if you're looking something new to play.

Everyone in Tokyo is dead, there are spirits around this open world that you free by completing optional side activities that also help level you up much quicker in the game… and crawling around this empty city are these creepy demon enemies that you have to blast with your supernatural powers and pull their cores out with your bear hands or with some sort of……. Ghostwire.. .if you stick to the main campaign theres nothing special here… infact the game would be pretty mediocre if you don’t expore its world.. thankfully youll want to… clearing these corrupted trees in your way, clensing these gates to unlock fast ravel points and clear fog to open up the world more… doing some great and also some rigiuclous sidequests which can really immerse you into this world… these are the best moments of ghostwire Tokyo.. immersing yourself into the side activities.. its just a shame youll so quickly grow tired of this world, youll get used to the spooky monsters, the sidequests will start to feel unnecessary.. the skill tree leaves a lot to be desired so youll stop caring about rescuing souls once you’ve unlocked every ability you care about… so youll probably find yourself like me abou halfway through the game jut sticking to the main quests.. which are good.. but nothing to blow you away… ghostwir Tokyo is fun through.. the combat is tense, youll be juggling through abilities, sneaking up behind enemies trying not to alarm the others… I loved my time spent in this creepy world… my only gripe with conmbat though is this skin crawling nails on chalkboard feeling when you run out of one of the 3 energies and have to switch to another.. I hate it and wish the game would just switch to the next automatically when youre out of one of them… as you do have to destroy glowing items in the environment to refill ammo or pull the cores out of enemies…
Overall this is a decently enjoyable action horror game, its unique.. its memorable…
Worth hopping into even if it slowly goes from wow this game is amazing to.. that game was pretty good..
    I give Ghostwire Tokyo

A solid game with great exploration, a very fun design and tone, that can go from a relaxing jaunt down backstreets, hunting for tanuki, gathering lost souls, or just exploring, to intense fights against genuinely unsettling foes. Combat gets a bit repetitive though, and some elements just do not work as intended. Definitely worth a buy if on sale, or if you're curious though.

Ghostwire Tokyo was a game I was always cautiously optimistic about, from Tango's soft reveal to only snippits of gameplay at various shows I was always hopeful I would like this game, but couldn't be sure until I played it. Well after finishing the game last night... I can say without a doubt it's one of my favorite games I've played in years.

Ghostwire tells a fantastic narrative of a crazy villain who's trying to merge the realms of life and death together into one. Throwing you into a strong story from the beginning, you quickly develop an attachment to your main characters Akito and KK who carry the plot through many twists and turns. The main story by itself is fantastic, but the developers made it even better with one of the most rewarding side quest systems I've ever played in my life. Playing these tales of hunting Yokai, helping spirits move on, and solving mysteries adds a whole new depth to the game where you feel like a spirit detective of sorts as you explore the vast city with your partner. This adds a whole layer to the story that compliments this main narrative perfectly because you're not just a guy on a mission to help yourself, but to help everyone else around you both alive and dead. This also adds more life to a world that's otherwise desolate and makes you feel a little less alone.

Everything in this game is additive and is sincerely fun to play. Hunting for hidden Tanuki, chasing Rokurokubi, leaving cucumbers for Kappa are all just a few examples of fun things that pop up along the way, but the game also rewards you for doing them. Every side quest carries a story with it and a handful of rewards, every collectable can be sold and displayed (with adorable Nekomata shopkeepers no less), and the database in your menu is fun to read because it's filled with history and culture lessons. The developers so quickly went out of their way to ensure everything in this game was made with purpose; no needless grinding, mindless fetch-quests, or anything that feels like a slog to do. Every time a quest pops up or there's a new thing to find you get excited, and it's so rare that games give you that feeling.

To top it off the gameplay is an absolute delight. Combat always feels fun and fulfilling, each battle provides you with plenty of freedom to fight as you want to, and you never seem to feel punished or treated unfairly. Every enemy has their own level of fun and strategy and every boss is a fun challenge to take down. Mix that in with fun city traversal, beautiful sights to see with gorgeous next-gen visuals, and not a single glitch experience in the entire game and I can honestly say there was never a single moment I didn't have fun.

All of these factors separately alone make for a great game, but bringing them all together really pulls this experience to being a masterpiece. Every action leads to something meaningful and fun - A compelling narrative only enhanced by a quest system that adds a whole layer of depth to the game, tons of yokai that you encounter and gain an appreciation for, finding tanuki and dogs, and collectables with purpose are all things that are both fun to do and things you are rewarded for, in terms of both gameplay and story value. There isn't a single missed opportunity, not a single menu wasted - Just fun and enjoyment everywhere you look at any given time.

I can honestly say that in my opinion, Ghostwire Tokyo is a perfect game. Everything being so additive and well thought out shows this was a passion of love and creativity and a desire to make something great. I was excited to come home and play every day, to spend every second of my time off in this world, and to continue this phenomenal journey that even caused me to teared me up during the incredible finale of the story. This will not only contend for being my favorite PS5 game, or my Game of the Year, but may be quite possibly one of my favorite games of all time. I've loved every second of this masterpiece, and even after I proudly add the Platinum trophy to my ever-growing list, I have no doubt I'll miss my time with this experience greatly. PS5, PC, Series X - Whenever and wherever you can play it, Ghostwire Tokyo will always be amongst my highest recommendations to anyone who can play it. This really is something incredible, and I promise you don't want to miss it.

STORY, GAMEPLAY, CONTROLS, GRAPHICS AND DIFFICULTY
Ghostwire: Tokyo tells a story of how nearly all of Tokyo’s citizens have vanished mysteriously and Yokai (known as Visitors) have invaded the city. Akito, the game’s protagonist, is possessed and saved by a spirit detective named KK. He encounters a group wearing Hannya masks who may unveil the mystery behind the strange events in Tokyo, one of which is the kidnapping of Akito’s sister. He goes after them to save his sister.

The story overall was good and the pacing and storytelling was fast enough to keep me interested all the way.

The gameplay was nicely made. Akito uses his weaving powers to shoot the enemies and when their core is visible he can rip it out. Only negative thing I found, was how the aiming was little bit difficult, but I got used to it. I also did lots of side missions, which were different each time and they filled the game nicely.

Graphically Ghostwire: Tokyo looked nice, but there was lots of pop-ins, which didn’t bother me much, but it was very noticeable. All the enemies were designed well and so were the enviroment. Only bad thing was how the areas looked very much the same and it was hard to tell where I was. The map was good in this situation. All the areas weren’t available in the beginning, because the city was covered with odd fog that kills if entered. Only thing to clean this was to find Torii gates and clean the area. Mostly the Torii gates were covered with enemies, so opening the areas was sometimes hard to do.

The boss battles were one of the best thing of the game. They were different each time and the bosses had to be beaten with certain way. Not shooting them with all your might was the answer.

Doing the side missions and main missions didn’t give enough exp. points, but collecting souls was the answer. By collecting them I got enough exp. to upgrade my weapons and skills. The whole skill-tree was rather simple. I liked it that way so making the gameplay was much easier.

Ghostwire: Tokyo was sometimes very demanding. The amount of ammunition player has was limited and shooting enemies should me exact. I found myself many times out of ammunition and scarping by I could kill the enemies. Some enemies were very aggressive and fast. I did find this game to be rather demanding at times.

    FINAL THOUGHTS
Ghostwire: Tokyo is very good game with some new twist. It took me about 11 hours to finish this and it was satisfying to play. The game was full of Japanese folklore, which I found to be interesting and instructive.

The trailer doesn't well enough depict what this game is. If you look at this as an exploration based action horror with stealth aspects you'll love it. It's very Japanese and thankfully doesn't feel "toned for the west" if you know what I mean.

If you've been to Tokyo it will give you a feeling of nostalgia because of how accurate the world is. The story and world are built to pull you in and the game heavily rewards you for exploration. It can feel repetitive but I had fun the whole time. You'll find the city as accurate as you would New York in Spiderman games. Except with a twist, which ends up being funny like the Shibuya 429 building.

The game is a bit challenging but not too much. I died a few times but not enough to frustrate me and not because of any issues with the game. The aiming is a bit garbage on the PS5 but you get used to it. If you're used to console FPS games it will infuriate you because it's just not built to be that. The game mechanics feel as though they were made to build up panic and anxiety which is perfect for a horror game. It actually makes you feel like there's risk and it helps. The difficulty goes up and down so it keeps you on your toes.

The enemies and story are very much built into Japanese lore and you'll meet various horror entities, demons, and ghosts from Japanese mythology. Sadly many of them will repeat and enemy variance isn't big. If you're American you might not like this game simply because nothing is familiar about it. If you've watched anime or Japanese horror you will love this because it touches on a little of everything. You'll fight all kinds of Yokai that might be directly pulled from myth or have very close similarities. The non enemy Yokai are literally pulled from myth like Kappa, Ittan-momen, Kodama, and the best are the Tanuki. You'll see why. Nekomatas run the shops and they are adorable.

You can pet the dog! You can pet the cat, sometimes! The people who made this game genuinely love animals. Just go pet an animal in the game and feel your heart melt. Just don't read their minds unless you want your heart crushed. They do not pull punches when it comes to "how would an animal feel if people vanished".

This game is unique and the combat is incredibly interesting. Traversing the city can be easy or difficult depending on what and when you upgrade and collecting things is quite a bit of fun. I never felt bored playing this and it kept pulling me in to do exploration or side missions. This is one of the few games where I felt side missions were rewarding. If not for what you get, for the added lore.

The game does have a couple of bugs with an audio issue but nothing breaking. Performance isn't great on some of the modes depending on where you are in the game. They do give you a lot of visual/performance modes to try though. On top of Shibuya station looking at the city can really lag your PS5 but other than that it performs pretty well on performance mode and still looks great.

In a world of Resident Evil and other survival horror games it's great to play an original horror game that isn't about punishing you or scaring you but pulling you into a world to explore with a generally creepy vibe. You can tell this was made with feeling and by people who really understand Japanese horror.

When I pay $60, I expect a combat system with depth and detail. All the developers did in this game is put pretty colorful lights during every move, to give players the illusion that the game is fun. None of that is fun for me. Speaking of combat, there is a combat style that is extremely cringeworthy. It consists of the protagonist shooting "ammo" with a hand gun gesture. What is he, a manchild? The physics are trash. The graphics are outdated for a next-gen AAA game.

For goodness sake, why are video game developers so obsessed with adding bows and arrows into almost every game? Enough already. This just goes to show how out of touch these developers are with gamers. I don't know a single gamer that actually cares or talks about bow and arrows. Hunters would be more interested in bow and arrows, not gamers. Even then, almost every hunter I know prefers guns over bows. It's no wonder why an almost 9 year old game like GTA V continues to outperform modern games in sales. Speaking of GTA, there are so many cars parked around the city and you can't even drive any of them. The developers were too cheap and lazy to add driving mechanics. Even the newest Kirby game lets you drive a car, and that's where it makes less sense to have cars. That's embarrassing. The story is horrible. The lazy developers used the story as an excuse to make the open world empty and lifeless.

There is no multiplayer. So once you beat the main story, this game will go back to the shelf and collect dust. Charging $60 for game with no replay value is a cash grab. The developers were too greedy and lazy to give us multiplayer. I only recommend you buy this game until it is $5.

The art design is phenomenal. I've never seen such an authentic recreation of Tokyo in a game. I felt like I was there. The convenience stores, bathhouses, the buildings, the way businesses stack on top of each other... it's incredibly impressive. And this extends to the monster design and animations as well. It all looks very impressive. However, I had to switch it to performance mode as it was a bit jarring in the pre selected quality mode. I needed the higher framerate.

The combat is fun but a lot of that is down to the incredible looking animations. Typically fights involve me backing away and pressing R2 to shoot my finger guns. It's a little too basic. You have a bow and talismans but ammo for each is rarer so odds are you're just going to shoot your finger guns for most of the game... it gets kind of old around the midway point but I never dreaded combat though so that's a plus. The bosses mostly sucked though... like you end up in a very cool arena with an amazing looking monster but... then I just end up shooting at them like any old enemy. They were kind of boring to fight.

I enjoyed a lot of the sidequests. I loved how they dived into different urban legends or aspects of Japanese culture. I think they could have used a few more unique fights at the end though.

The open world design is probably the weakest aspect. The map is just littered with collectibles. There's no real incentive to explore. The trophy list was kind of offputting as well. I initially figured I'd go for the platinum but later realized it would be too much of a hassle. Collect 240,000 spirits, get 20 headshots with a bow, find all of the many many collectibles etc... it just felt like a lot of busywork.

Overall a really interesting game and a fun one overall but at the same time kind of a letdown. Hopefully the next game from tango is better.

Ghostwire: Tokyo is an interesting new mix of horror 'shooter' with excellent enemy design and aesthetics, but relies strongly on its eastern thematic to stay interesting past a certain playtime. However, despite the repetition, it does it's best to offer enough to keep players invested and interested enough with its variety and story, especially if you have even a slight interest in Japan or its vast mythology.

Ghostwire: Tokyo is a memorable journey that never overstays its welcome. With a unique combat system and plenty of options for exploration, it makes an admirable effort to keep players engaged even after the credits roll.
