Spent 4-5 hours in this game. Just so boring. Didn't care about the story at all - its simply cliche on cliche. Combat system was fun, however it's not enough to keep you going. So glad I haven't spend money in it's time.

Massively overhyped. The game does nothing new, it's the same rinse and repeat formula of run around do some meaningless boring quest, kill a bunch of guys, find 100s of collectibles that add nothing but time to the game.

It's basically Assassin's Creed in terms of gameplay. It has the same standard stealth assassination, climbing stuff, shooting arrows, okay combat that's very simplistic and easy, and the occasional slightly harder enemy.

The characters and story are all boring as hell.

If you've played harder games like Sekiro, Dark Souls etc, you will find this stupidly easy even on hard.

I sound harsh, but I was expecting so much more. I think it's okay, but I've got through act 1 and i'm just bored, I feel like i've done this many times before and its got nothing new that I can think of.

If you love open world games with heaps to do maybe you will like it (most people do), if you like challenging games with interesting story/characters and satisfying combat, I don't think it's for you.

It's OK. I like that the wind moves you subtly, and playing without the map is made quite possible because of it. Other than that it's exactly the same as many other open-world games. Big empty fields that exist for visuals alone, serviceable action/combat, serviceable stealth gameplay and while the story can be good at times it didn't have to be over 20 hours long.

Disclaimer: when I say "serviceable" I mean it doesn't go out of its way to change up the formula and emulates what existing games already do AKA it's not particularly original.

Kurosawa mode and Japanese voice option is a must for this game if you want it to stand out somewhat from the other crap we get yearly from Sony.

The game is extremely repetitive and boring. It's just kilometers of horse rides and 90% of quests are just killing dozens of enemies at the same time.

That said, graphics, environment, and combat are top-notch.

Gorgeous game. Gameplay is satisfying - finally a game that delivers the absolute destruction that is a Samurai and a katana. The graphics are phenomenal. Combat is satisfying. A great revenge story.

Where this game falters is it's lack of content variety. Side missions, and even main story missions are repetitive. Yes, taking out a swath of enemies with a sword and satisfying combat is

Yes, taking out a swath of enemies with a sword and satisfying combat is great, but we need more mission variety. Because of repetitive nature, the game becomes quite tedious, and the game became quite boring. At some point I just wanted to rush to the finish so i could be done with it.

They could definitely make a follow up to this game that is awesome. But they need to infuse creativity into the beautiful world.

** Haikus were a cool concept - but they should have done more with the concept.

Honestly this is one of the best games of 2020 and it just gets better in 2021. The beauty of Iki island is something else. Sucker Punch have truly delivered on making an already gorgeous game more beautiful! The only had side is that I think some of the side activities could have been a bit more varied

I played the game at launch and got the platinum in a week and i loved the game and when they announced the dlc i was excited and pre order it and i paid 20$ thinking that it comes with the PS5 upgrade but It didn’t, you have to pay 10$ for the PS5 upgrade and know that i think about it why buy an upgrade for the console you paid 500$ for,
The PS5 owners should get the PS5 version for free as advertised I didn’t buy a whole PS5 to pay more.

About the dlc it was short for a 20$ it took me about 7 hours to clear the iki island.

And i hope they support the legends mode it has potential.

    Thank you.

Ok this is about the directors cut and not the main game itself. i am talking about the dlc as well as the extra 10$ upgrade. This score and review is mostly intended for people who already own the game before this upgrade. But Non the less the main game itself is a masterpiece and a must play by all means! the main game is a 10/10!
But now to the directors cut, honestly if you own a ps5.

But now to the directors cut, honestly if you own a ps5. dont pay the extra 10$ the upgrade is minimal and even the new haptic feedback and quality of life improvements are really minimal and not something to go wild about. Yes its 10$ but i would of probably spent that money on a bag of shrimps for dinner tonight lol.
The dlc of iki island Is a beautiful place to look at and just roam around, just like the main game. The island is very very tiny and its even slightly smaller than the first area of the map in the main game. The story of the expansion has so much potential yet its very very short (like 5 hours, no joke you can complete it in less than one playthrough) and totally not worth that 20$ price tag while AC Valhalla with all its flaws delivers a better expansion imo...
Overall wait for sale. dont jump in right away if you already own the game. but if its your first time getting into this game, then im jealous, youre going to have a blast of an experience!

Sony, what are you doing? Keep on shaking money from your fans. Every year this corporation becomes more and more mercantile and disgusting. $ 60 for the director's version of the game, don't you think that's too much? Or have you not been completely interested in the opinion of your fans lately and you prefer it to money?

Only because I replayed fights many times (deadly difficulty). On lower difficulty the ratio (cutscenes-gameplay) would be probably closer to 80-20! You can’t skip dialogs! I don’t know why is that, but games became movies at some point and this is really not good way to pursue. If story is great there is no point in force people to watch it, give us a chance if we would like to listen to the story or not. At this point I am leaving the game somewhere in the middle tired of endless dialogs. Expand

Verry dissapointed that they didn’t used the dualsense at more things, the adaptive triggers could be used at so many thing, yet they are used only for a single thing, the bow…. Why is this I don’t know it seems that Sp didn’t cared for this ps5 version, they trew a single feature and so they can call it ps5 version…

As for the game, the story is poor, it does not make you feel anything, only at rare occasions. The characters are talking verry little, and do not express any emotion.
They use a thing, that I cannot forgive, at almost all of the missions, you are teleported without any continuity. They broke the flow state and the emotion. Let’s attack the castle, black screen for a second then you are in the middle of the fight, no flow, no nothing, just teleported there.
The game is also verry short, my tracked in game time is 21h for the main story. I also did a lot of side quests, and some if the legends. And I touched 21, I think the main missions are bellow 7h. (but double check online, I might be wrong, this is how it felt to me).

This game got so many good reviews, I expected it to be great, but no, I paid full price for the ps5 version and I am dissapointed. It just another open world rpg, nothing new.
But ofc it’s miles above ubisoft open-worlds, I sggest you play it, if you buy It at a sale and you have nothing better to play.

How It Stacks Up: It is definitely a Sony quality game, but I think their other offerings (TLOU, GOW, Horizon) are much better games. It does have the best open world though, so if that's your main interest, this game will be for you. In terms of PS5 features, it has all the standard upgrades which enhance the experience greatly over the PS4 version.

Ghost of Tsushima is what happens when style and passion collides with safe, bland, AAA gaming.

I can’t comment on whether or not the upgrade from PS4 is worth it as this release was my first experience with Ghost of Tsushima. Although I can say that the Iki Island expansion is just more of the same.

Ghost of Tsushima commits the same sins as a lot of other recent games - open world with a bunch of unnecessary, uninspired side activities, side missions, resource collecting, upgrades, light RPG stuff, collectables and camps to clear. Basically it’s a big map that’s really a repetitive checklist. It is bloated, goes on too long and does not respect the player’s time.

The gameplay is fun, especially in the early hours of play, but it doesn’t have enough depth or variety to last the games run time. Standoffs are cool at first but get old. Combat is simple but satisfying and they give you just enough options to keep things fun for a while. Stealth is shallow and enemy AI is poor. For some reason there is too much linear, tedious climbing and you feel too floaty when jumping about. Exploration doesn’t feel very rewarding and riding about starts to drag.

The story is enjoyable but doesn’t really do anything interesting or get you heavily invested. The game starts off and ends pretty well but of course most of the game is drawn out. The characters are good but not super memorable. I enjoyed that the game had some humour from time to time which certainly helped break things up a bit.

So what really elevates Ghost of Tsushima above the competition? First of all I think people really wanted an open world, historical, Japanese, Samurai game and this definitely got my attention. Then there is the style. This game looks beautiful and not because it tries to push the limits of technology. It’s the art direction, the colours, the constant beautiful views, the wind and weather, the commitment to the time period while also not being dedicated to realism.

The other thing that comes across is the developer’s passion for the location, time period, Samurai culture and other media that has done this before. It’s clear that a lot of research was done when creating this game. I enjoyed it so much that I found myself looking up Tsushima, Iki and Mongol and Japanese history. The inspiration from Samurai films shines through as well and I appreciated the visual options. I played this in Japanese with English subtitles and had a good time soaking it all in.

Overall I enjoyed my time playing Ghost of Tsushima but there was plenty of monotony. I am not in any hurry to play it again or get a sequel. If you’re looking for an open world, AAA, PS4 era game I would probably recommend Ghost of Tsushima over the competition.

Ghost of Tsushima: Director's Cut has improved the graphic of the game greatly. The newly added Iki Island brings new stories and challenges, and further extended the story background. It’s more of a regular DLC paired with some improvements for the PS5 rather than a true director’s cut. However, the developers do deserve praise for how skillfully they inserted the expansion into the narrative of the base game. The story about Jin’s past and the sins of ancestors is great (as opposed to boring side quests), new enemies pose a challenge, and the game as a whole shines on PS5’s more powerful hardware. I wish the visual improvements were more noticeable though. [11/2021, p.31]
