Very much kept me in suspense and I've only played the hour trial, after this though it makes me want to buy the game, but the only thing that annoys me with this is knowing I've only got about 4 hours with the game left as I've heard it's quite short, I've enjoyed it thus far though

    Thoughts-
It’s a good thing, then, that gameplay is very much not the focus in Fort Solis, because even though it can be an issue at times, at the end of the day, it’s just the conduit through which the game is telling its story- which, after all, is where it really excels. At just 4-5 hours long, Fort Solis is a brief experience, but it fills up that runtime very effectively, thanks to a compelling story, high, cinematic production values, strong acting performances, and excellent atmosphere. If you’re looking for a strong narrative experience, or if you’re a fan of science fiction settings, Fallen Leaf’s debut outing is well worth a look.

Boring, with questionable graphics. It seems like a desperate attempt to release something just to maintain 'exclusives', when clearly quality wasn't their main focus with this game release.

Figuring out what has happened on Fort solis piece by piece is like playing through a clever mystery film all the while with the threat of needing to respond to imminent danger through the QTE's While some of the mechanics could be improved (a run mechanic would be great later game) I can see how ensuring that dialogue is something players focus on rather than merely ignoring them in the background while you complete objectives means that you don't miss the key story elements that are revealed throughout the game. All in all the game is a tense story backed by beautiful art and an audio/voice masterclass and the areas that could use tweaks moving forward are easy areas for fallen leaf to focus on in future offerings. And Fort Solis has loads of atmoshpere and amazing cast - the banter between Jack (Roger Clark) and Jess (Julia Brown) was great. And Wyatt (Troy Baker) character is true tour de force. Im not sure why a dev would release a "thriller" that has so little happening in it, it actually leaves one bored. Where a grand narrative could take place, instead I was left with annoyance and dissapointment. A slow burn of a story is grand, provided the building of tension is well done. Yet I felt the tension peaked around 90 min where upon it flatlined. Maybe Im not the target-audience, maybe there is a silent majority for whom "walking simulator" isnt a pejorative. Fort Solis is an immersive and cinematic story-driven thriller set on the Red Planet, Mars. Jack Leary responds to a routine alarm call on Fort Solis but soon learns it’s not an ordinary call. Jack must unravel what has happened at Fort Solis.

The game's main focus is the story. If you are looking for a gameplay-heavy game I hate to burst your bubble, but you will not be content. The developers' goal was to create a true cinematic story experience.

Exploring Fort Solis was quite relaxing but also intriguing, there is so much to discover during your time on the surface of Mars. You’ll spend most of your time searching for clues as to what happened at Fort Solis. The game focuses on exploration hugely, While you adventure through Fort Solis you will come across emails, audio, and video recordings. These are important especially the video recordings because they give context as to why the events on Fort Solis transpired. If you choose to ignore the video recordings and such it will be difficult to grasp a better understanding of the story. Besides your standard collectibles, you can interact with other objects which unlock dialogue you could have missed if you didn’t do said interaction. As you progress through the game you will unlock new areas to explore by gaining access to the rooms with keycards.

The story is very dark and immersive, and the dialogue is pure, rich, and has its humor throughout. The developers nailed the narrative aspect but do lack in some other fields. The legendary voice acting of Roger Clark, Troy Baker, and Julia Brown hooked me into the story. Although the story was well written it has its flaws. In my eyes the story did lack the major thrill factor, It had its moments but nothing over the top thrilling. The music keeps the game in suspense which leaves me on the edge of my seat, the music stays consistent and present throughout the entire game. The pacing doesn’t bother me when it comes to games, but I know some have their opinions so I will say the pacing isn’t consistent. In the beginning, the game has good pacing but as you progress it declines. As you hit halfway there will be moments where there is no dialogue for an extended period and becomes quiet for too long. The emotions and intent of the characters are conveyed very well. The chemistry between Jack and Jessica is fantastic. The audio design is superb and very detailed. A little detail I wanna point out is how real the characters act, for example, if you stand still and pay close attention you will notice them wandering their eyes and looking over their shoulders on alert. To add to the overall experience and immersion I highly recommend wearing a headset.

The gameplay is pretty straightforward; you spend a lot of time walking around searching for clues about what happened at Fort Solis. In a few instances, you will be prompted to use QTEs or complete an easy puzzle with the multi-tool gadget on your wrist to open a door. I love QTEs in games, but in Fort Solis, they felt pointless. If you fail the QTEs in other games it usually results in a different outcome, but in Fort Solis, it will still play out the same so it seems impotent. The slow pace allows you to take in the environment around you but requires patience. The game is for sure a slow burner but the lore and atmosphere drew me in. I love these kinds of games. The only thing I would change is your character icon on the map. The map design is simple and I like it, but as you move your character icon doesn’t move; it only teleports once you enter a new room. And looking at the map it doesn’t show which way you are facing. This isn’t a big deal indoors really but when outdoors it's more noticeable. The final knit pick I have is when watching the replay of a CCTV sequence I wish they added audio, it really would’ve added to the thrill factor a little more I feel like.

The graphics are impressive and highly detailed, better than a lot of games out there, even some of the AAA games. Fort Solis was made using the Unreal Engine.

The only noticeable performance issues I had were frame rate drops in certain parts of the game and occasional glitches when my character would slightly glitch. Nothing game-breaking or concerning. I played the entire game on PS5 using performance mode. Quality mode is also an option for those who prefer it. The game has no load times considering it’s a cinematic experience which is awesome!

After two play-throughs of Fort Solis, it reminds me why I love cinematic story-driven games. Although Fort Solis lacks to give me any major thrills it is an engaging game with its story elements, suspenseful music, and detailed atmosphere making my journey on Mars worthwhile.

Fallen Leaf had one goal and that was to deliver a true cinematic story experience and they did just that. For a small indie team of only ten people, they did an excellent job. I see myself revisiting this game on occasion.

More a movie than a game, Fort Solis surprises with top-notch acting and creates a pretty decent atmosphere, but doesn’t offer any real challenge. It focuses on exploration but the protagonist’s sluggish movement effectively discourages it. This walking simulator will either captivate you enough to finish the story in one sitting or bore you in the first fifteen minutes.
