    Overall i absolutely love this game and it has slowly become part of my top 20 favorite games of all time list. It has well written story and characters, very beautiful graphics, many unique bosses and villains, amazing soundtrack and overall atmosphere/vibe of the game just feels great. I'm not saying that it has to be GOTY winner, but it absolutely deserves it. As of August 2023, FF16 isOverall i absolutely love this game and it has slowly become part of my top 20 favorite games of all time list. I'm not saying that it has to be GOTY winner, but it absolutely deserves it. As of August 2023, FF16 is best PS5 exclusive.

    I would strongly advise everyone to ignore reviews, that are below 8/10, simply because they are not honest or objective, instead they are extremely biased.

    These same people review bombed FF7Remake and there were the exact same complaints. Don't believe me? Go look up FF7Remake PS4 version user reviews.

    They simply don't like modern FF games and they can't stand the fact that modern FF games like FF7Remake and FF16 have found so many new fans and people praise FF16 as potential GOTY of 2023.    … Expand

    With the release of FFXVI, 2023 is officially one of the best years in video game history and that's only first half of the year, there's entire other half of amazingness yet to come. Would have never expected gaming to get good again. Huge Thank You! to entire team who worked on FFXVI, incredible work.

I've been a fan of The Final Fantasy series since 9 was released. I've played them all. 16 is one of the greatest the series has produced for so many reasons. YoshiP presents another masterpiece.     CBU3 were completely clear and transparent on the type of game this would be throughout its development, and this game delivers based on that transparency.

    Pros: -Phenomenal story. Extremely dark tones and feels very mature. This game will invoke a lot of emotion as you explore Valisthea and the hardships it’s people encounter. Clive is probably one of the best written characters in    CBU3 were completely clear and transparent on the type of game this would be throughout its development, and this game delivers based on that transparency.

    Pros:
    -Phenomenal story. Extremely dark tones and feels very mature. This game will invoke a lot of emotion as you explore Valisthea and the hardships it’s people encounter. Clive is probably one of the best written characters in all the series and his struggle with finding himself and his purpose in the world makes for an interesting ride.
    -The politics of Valisthea runs very deep and if you are into that sort of stuff, there is tons to learn and experience with the power struggle over the mother crystals
    -Active Time Lore. Simply the greatest thing ever created to help you keep track of all lore in the game from the current conflicts taking place to all the characters they introduce.
    -Combat feels amazing, albeit it does take some time for you to gain access to more abilities as the story progresses, but when it all comes together and you put the time into it, you can do some pretty incredible combos. Cons:
    -Side quests can be a bit dull, not all. Later in the game the side quests do branch off and are quite interesting and emotional. - Main story does jump all over the place since there’s a bunch of stuff happening in the world , but comes together.
    -rpg elements are streamlined and less focus on party control, but these and many more classic features that were put to the side were addressed by the dev team
    -lack of exploration in large areas. The game is very linear, but it was designed this way purposely, however I do wish they made some hidden dungeons or secret nooks to unveil new items and gear.    … Expand

    Personally it's one of my favorite games from last 3 years and overall top 3 game of 2023. I'm the type who absolutely loves FF7 Remake and it's modern combat, so i'm only welcoming FF 16 combat.     Um dos jogos mais incríveis que já joguei. Uma experiência obrigatória para os fãs da franquia e também para novos jogadores. Gameplay muito viciante, história absurda e muito bem elaborada. Fico feliz por ter a oportunidade de acompanhar o desenvolvimento da franquia.

    I'll be honest, I walked into this game unenthusiastically and expecting the worst as this was not the Final Fantasy I knew, and more importantly, it wasn't FF7 Rebirth, which I was more excited for at the time of FF16's release. But being about half-way through the game, all I can say is: I was wrong. It is different, but it took me by storm and I'm enjoying this a lot more than I wasI'll be honest, I walked into this game unenthusiastically and expecting the worst as this was not the Final Fantasy I knew, and more importantly, it wasn't FF7 Rebirth, which I was more excited for at the time of FF16's release. But being about half-way through the game, all I can say is: I was wrong. It is different, but it took me by storm and I'm enjoying this a lot more than I was thinking I would. If I had to describe the game, FF16 is what you'd get if you asked the writer of Game of Thrones to come up with a story for a Final Fantasy game, and then asked the developers of the Witcher 3 to help make the game. But while it is very similar to the Witcher, the combat is far more polished and engaging. I also love how the title is more adult oriented, not shying away from sexual themes, violence and coarse language.

    Everything is extremely high detail, getting close to walls and surfaces reveal a ton of detail and it's mind boggling seeing how much of it is often on display in the same area. The lighting & shadows is some of the best I've seen in any game. And some of the forests in the game look basically photorealistic. Loading times is also very fast. I feel like this is the first truly next-gen title, offering similar visual quality to Demon's Souls, but done at a much larger scale with huge open environments and tons of detail in every direction. It's extremely impressive.

    The characters are really interesting and the story complex and nuanced, I'd be surprised if it doesn't grip you from the start. All of this is beautifully presented through cut-scenes that look like something straight from a Hollywood CG film. The acting, both visual and vocal is perfect, and of course, it's a Final Fantasy game, so the music is on point as well.

    The only real negative for me is the uninteresting side-quests. These are as boring as they get, but I do feel the main story makes up for that in spades, so I can't really fault the title for it. I know some people have complained about the game's performance, but this hasn't been a problem for me personally. During combat the game seems to lock to 60 fps in performance mode and that's really where I need the performance to be good. During the slower exploration bits, the game runs at a higher quality which drops the frame rate below 60, but I never felt like it negatively impacted the experience for me.

    Overall, I'm glad Square-Enix took their time with the game, it's clear that a ridiculous amount of polish went into it. If anything drastically reduces my enjoyment in the late game I'll update my review accordingly, but so far very happy with everything the game offers.    … Expand

    FF16 has been perfect so far. Characters are possibly the best I've ever seen in a FF game since FF10. It's dark, fun, and looks fantastic. Cannot be anymore happy with it.

FF 16 is true art, very well written story and character, absolutely EPIC boss fights, amazing voice acting, relatable main character, very good music and overall interesting world, solid villains and side characters.     This is one of the best games in 2023. A beautiful game with stellar combat, a mesmerizing story, and top-notch voice acting. Do yourself a favor and try out the demo before buying because I have no qualms about saying you WILL get sucked into this world and not stop until the credits roll.

    For me personally a 10! I really don't get all the 0s. The playstyle is fun, if you consider it to easy, don't play on easy mode or maybe play it once and then choose the "Final Fantasy Mode". I also like the story and especially the main Character, he is really interesting. Revenge-plot is there, but not all the way through.

    The side-quests are dull most of the time, but I liked them nontheless, because some told me a thing or two about the world and most are done in a short amount of time so you don't have to spend minutes or hours on a dull side-quest. But if you don't like them, they are not necessary to play, just leave them be. And yes, you only play one Character, but I had my fun with it, I don't always need to play 3 or more Characters at the same time. And the music in correlation with the gameplay, it's just so much fun! :) I also like the cutscenes...there are many, but I love that! It's a personal preference, if you don't like it, than yeah, maybe you won't like this game, but I love it...should I say any more of what I love and like? No xD I think you get it :)    … Expand

If you've never played a game with this type of combat system it may be hard. Is it the best game I've ever played? No. The story keeps me going. I've felt emotions in the game. On the other hand, I’m a bit annoyed that they went more action, but incredibly powerful characters can’t climb a fence or some fallen stones. I don’t mind the liberality so much, but the obstacles keeping you on course really break immersion. It’s not a home run, but the losers giving it a zero need to get a life. Play it or don’t play it, I don’t really care, but I’m enjoying it. Is it the best game ever, no. Is it a solidly fun experience about half way through, absolutely.    … Expand

    Final fantasy XVI is a very refreshing experience for the series.

    The graphics are amazing, the gameplay is very cool, much better than its predecessor and the history it's like a spin-off of the Game of Thrones.

    I will give a 9 just because the fights are so nice and do not happen all the time.

    First impressions are positive. I’m having a lot of fun. The story is gripping and the combat is fun. Visually it’s great.

    Don’t like the lack of build diversity. It would have been nice to have multiple options here as you only play one character. Also during combat, the ability to switch focus to an enemy of your choosing is not there and this makes for close quarters fights vs lots    First impressions are positive. I’m having a lot of fun. The fights vs the bosses have been great so far except one I won’t name where again it suffers because multiple enemies are on screen and you can’t easily switch focus between the two and a dodge will automatically switch your focus.

    There isn’t very interesting gear options pretty much like most ff games, I think that is an area where square could improve. There isn’t much point in exploration either. I think for a story driven action game it is great but the rpg elements are lacking.    … Expand

    This is a fantastic action game with some of the best spectacle I've seen since GOW 3 and some of the best voice acting I've heard since the Witcher 3? The main character especially. The music is OST of the Year tier.

    Really good game that is once again review bombed as usual. Combat, story and world are vastly superior to Final Fantasy XV. It has a few drawbacks such as side Questa that lower the score to a 9 but it is a very enjoyable experiencia and one of the BEST games to come out this year, no matter what the review bombers say

The combat has surprising levels of depth and the “Magic Burst” mechanic, similar to Devil May Cry Nero’s Exceed, allows players to flex their more technical muscles.     Overall game play is fine but the story is just incomplete. Subtasks are mostly repeating same thing over and over. The game has a good start but just end poorly. If this is not main FF series, it will be maybe score an 8, but for a triple A game and call itself FF 16, this certainly is not a game I would recommend.

Pacing is very inconsistent with sometimes going from set piece to set piece back to back and then doing filler stuff for 10 hours after that though.     Been playing FF since age of 8, now >30 y.o, and I love the direction, characters, writing, battle of this game, full of epic, less cringe dialogues. Despite the frame rate issue, it does not impact my experiences of the game.

This obviously drew a lot of criticisms from many older fans, hence the 'lower metacritic' scores. However, I do agree with them in some points: this game is uneven. It carries Square's worst traits in the last few years: it's inability to create an open world RPG that is the flavor of today's gaming landscape and its predisposition for them to tell the audience THEIR story, instead of having an audience of 'creating and living' in a story of their own making. This is a linear experience that reminds me so much of FF 13, with characters designs similar to FF XII. The positive side, in term of presentation, Square literally has gone all out and it is an incredibly produced game. The soundtrack instantly goes up with some of the greats of gaming and should easily be the best this year. The only complaint I’ve had after 40 hours of play are the side quests. A lot of them are just go here get this or kill this, but I’ve never cared that much about side quests. This game is great, and it pushes the FF series into the future. A large franchise like this can’t be as successful as they want if they stay in the 90s.… Expand

    The good:

    The cinematic's are absolute fire, they are so good i get chills every time an epic fight breaks out.

    The soundtrack is a godsend best in the franchise by far, maybe in all of gamine. Though that is a bold statement.

    The combat is very fluid and smooth and does a very good job pacing itself, it's not too over the top, but it's not sluggish either.

    The story has grabbed me by the ba*ls and has not let go.

    The world map, i like that it isnt open world, there are too many games like that so it's a breath of fresh air and its great.

    The flaws:

    The frame rate can dip to about 40 fps during exploration which i personally don't mind, but you do notice it.

    The difficulty is too easy, i have only died once so far and that was only because i wasn't paying attention to my health.

    The skills you can acquire are too simplified, don't get me wrong i dont want a giant skill tree with hundreds of skills, but i would of liked something like ff10 or ff12 where you can buy like +50 health and things like that, but for each eikon, like each eikon has their own set of stats. So equipping Titan has immense defense and counter ability's, but has problems dishing out power but has like +500 extra health.

    The exploration is a bit weak, not much to loot, but maybe there will be later. Most things you loot are potions, but i always find myself with max potions anyway.

    No game is perfect and that goes for this game to, i haven't beaten the game yet probably 10 hours in, just unlocked ifrit, and that battle was honestly the first difficulty spike. But even so i'm still giving this game a 9/10, because the things it does well, it does very well.

    P.S: don't read the reviews that are 0, their trolls, people who put 5/10 or 6/10 are fine, because this game was never going to make every single soul happy, and those reviews are actually honest and give valid points unlike the trolls.    … Expand

    Graphics - few moments where frame rates were an issue. Panning camera too much can cause a bit of motion sickness. I understand the limitation of the hardware and can't wait until the PC version comes out. 9/10

    Gameplay - It was nice to try out different skills and carry them into the fight. But I carried a specific set of abilities into each climatic fights. I wished the mounting and dismounting were a bit faster and didn't reset my camera angle, as that would've made ability point farming a bit less clunky. Non boss encounters were short and sweet. Boss encounters were great. Having unknown number of health bar resets kinda made the "health bar" feel pointless. Couple of boss fights didn't build up in intensity with phase changes and missed the mark for me. Overall, it was mixed in with some awesome fights like with titan and let downs and monotone ones. 8/10

    Sounds and Music - Not much to say. Soken is the real God here. 10/10

    Conclusion - After buying the PS5 for this title and having so much anticipation to the point of getting jealous of the people playing early, do I think it was worth $570? Afraid not. Maybe half of that? Maybe I'm spoiled by FF14 moments. But in slightly longer version of both shadowbringer and endwalker, the highs were so much higher as were the lowest of the lows. Setting them as the gold standard for me, I think this game is a good game and entertainment, but a new standard it is not.    … Expand

    Turn based combat is dead and thank god for that. In fact, all FF games before FF 7 (og) are outdated and meh games. Final Fantasy got actually good with 7th entry and X was also solid, but real innovation started with FF 7 Remake where they finally made combat good and modern. FF 16 is equally good. Thank god this old nonsense is gone forever! This game is a must buy, GOTY and masterpiece!

    2.) There are quite a lot of cutscenes (over 18 hours) for people who don't like cutscenes you probably won't like this game. 3.) Some quests can be boring, these quests do help expand on the world though. I will not explain why they expand on the world due to possible spoilers, but if you approach the game with the story in mind I'm sure you can piece it together.

    Bad
    1.) Motion blur is currently an issue but we are told it will be addressed.
    2.) You will run into popping, that is in every game bit I will include it since I know people don't like it. 3.) There is a lack of minigames which is a staple for a lot of final fantasy games.
    4.) The customization and item selection is not very good.
    5.) There is a lack of diversity in the total amount of regular enemies you fight, maybe between 13-20 different normal enemies others are pallet swaps.

    Overall what I look for in a game is a good story and for it to be fun to play, and this game does that.
    Yes the game has flaws, but the overall experience with is has been positive.

    Lastly, for everyone saying you can beat the game with 2 buttons, you're right, but you should check your equipment, I think you have the auto combo and auto dodge rings equipped. Also for everyone saying that the game doesn't even hit 30 fps in combat, digital foundry created a video on it, and I'm assuming you're referencing that since I can't even notice the frames drop, it's 99% 30 fps on graphics mode with a 1% drop in populated cities. The game also stays at a consistent 60fps when in combat in performance mode and drops when outside of combat.

    It's fine to critique the game, but you should probably know what you're talking about when doing so.    … Expand

    Graphics are incredible Music is phenomenal The combat is great and although the game isn't hard or requires skill like in the Souls games for example, you still need to dodge or parry and it has decent depth regarding the builds you can do Characters in this game are decent and the voice    FFXVI is a great action rpg.
    The story is up there with some of the best stories in the FF series

    This game is phenomenal at all levels. Best combat, visuals, directiom, and story. If you like god of war type games, you'll love this game.

    People giving this game a zero make no sense. They are just upset about the change in style of the game to more action focused. There is no justification to give this game a zero even if ur perhaps not a fan of the story or direction.

    I am about 20 hours in and so far loving the story and the characters. As a long time final Fantasy fan I can honestly say the it has truly gotten me as gripped as previous titles. I haven't noticed any technical issues, which can't be said about many triple A games nowadays.
    I know some reviews have said that the side quest content is lacking, but as the fast travel system is there I    I am about 20 hours in and so far loving the story and the characters.     The 2 things I do wish were different are the enemy variety, even though the bosses are great I would have loved to see more traditional FF monsters, (Cactuars, Tonberries etc,) but overall the combat has been fun and responsive. Secondly, I do wish there was more fun mini games akin to past titles.

    Other than that I am having a blast and can't wait to see what else the game has in store.    … Expand

    Im really enjoying this game so far!! I always look forward to the new final fantasy games. I love how each one is different in a way but still has great music and great story

    FFXVI is a good game and the best FF ever made.
    -Story has great pacing, many consistencies and explosive moments
    -Characters are relatable and some have interesting arcs -Performance is great during battle -The action combat has so much dept and every enemy can be countered in a satisfying way -Exploration is full with amazing scenery and interesting rewards -Side quests are    FFXVI is a good game and the best FF ever made.
    -Story has great pacing, many consistencies and explosive moments
    -Characters are relatable and some have interesting arcs
    -Performance is great during battle
    -The action combat has so much dept and every enemy can be countered in a satisfying way
    -Exploration is full with amazing scenery and interesting rewards
    -Side quests are interesting and a nice break to have
    -The sex and nudity on screen feels tantalizing and bold way to be inspired from GOT.
    More specifics pros are: great party member, nice magic effect, build customization, great equipment design, simply yet rewarding itemization etc...
    These points make this game the best FF in the series, showing truly how the series have evolved now.
    This is FFXVI and a true Final Fantasy. This is an RPG not a JRPG. Yoshi-P was being honest as always that this is an FF made to appeal larger audience.

    The game is great. A good return to form for Final Fantasy. You can argue that the story is a bit bland, but that's what classic FF did, and it's not bland, but predictable at points, wich is not inherently bad.

    The gameplay, music and graphics are amazing, so it's a great entry pointing on the right direction.

    It's "all flash, no substance". Many undercooked elements. Terrible level design with annoying traversal mechanics. Boring MMO style quests. It's not an RPG, it's an Action Adventure with very light RPG elements. No spoilers but you could guess what the final boss would be like... Very    I don't care that this doesn't feel like a Final Fantasy game. I'm judging it on its own merits.

    From the cinematics to the action-gameplay i was stunned through my whole gameplay.
    Eventhough there are some flaws in the performance, i was absolutely spellbound on the screen. Cannot understand the critics. I love that the sidequests are short, so they dont require me to walk half a globe, and the pacing of the story was perfect. Not too short    What a journey. I love this game.

    COMBAT has me HOOKED!

    Developing and executing combos with various Eikon abilities has been my #1 favourite thing to do in this game!

    Not just the combat, the darn story has me going through a rollercoaster of emotions! I am seriously satisfied with the game and would definitely recommend it- 10/10

    This is definitely an FF game.

    Final Fantasy XVI is an excellent game in every way. If you're a fan of the series for the stories and characters, you won't go wrong here, and if you've avoided the series for, say, turn-based combat, the sixteenth installment offers the perfect opportunity to get started with this legend of the gaming industry.     New numbered FFs are good again. Stunning to look at, with new, punchy combat, and a great yarn, it is, if anything, too focussed, lacking a bit of the weird. [Issue#30, p.78]
