Terrible remake of a classic game. I can't even begin to start on what's wrong. In short they took a 8 hour start to a 50 hour plus game and loaded it with tropey boring chores. Nothing about this is done right other than a decent soundtrack. Do not support this game.

FFVIIR features some of the most breathtaking characters, material quality, and environments to date. The presentation excels that of most AAA games and is nearly incomparable to its original. Characters are likable, relatable, and brought to life as I became well invested in their adventures throughout the game. Although it’s not a 'new' feature as it leans heavily on its original material, it is still executed well here. Performance is outstanding as the game is extremely well developed as I experienced no bugs, crashes, or glitches throughout all my playthroughs. The combat in this game can either be overwhelming or simplistic depending on the difficulty you play at. I recommend at least trying the hard difficulty (unlocked after first playthrough) because it encourages you to plan your attacks, Materia use, and ability use. Its real time strategy reimagined in a tactical modern-day age and executed to near perfection.

    (-) Traversal

    (-) UI/UX

Extremely outdated traversal as it is easily the worst part about this game. Slow walking, numerous cutscenes, and linear corridors interrupt the flow of the game in nearly every one of the 18 chapters. The Yuffie DLC aims to get rid of these annoyances by allowing you to sprint more frequently and glide through traversal puzzles more enjoyably. The ending of the main game has been controversial to a lot of people, but I appreciate the effort to try something new when compared to the original. The game earns its remake title instead of a remaster. However, the last 2 chapters of this game are very repetitive and frustrating in terms of gameplay. New characters are being introduced with not enough impact on gameplay and the combat begins to fade into a grind. The user interface is inept, especially the pause menu. There are way too many hidden options buried inside unnecessary menus (i.e. why is the ‘Upgrade Weapons’ menu in its own section? Just pair it with the Materia and Equipment section since all your stats and characters are shown there. Why is chapter selection hidden in the system menu? Why is the map so underwhelming and frustrating to navigate when traversing areas with different floors or height levels? etc…).

I made an account especially for this review.

This price increase is absolutely ridiculous, i was looking forward to playing this game so much, but seeing the price at 80 euros (about 90 dollars) my jaw just dropped. This game just went from a normal AAA game of 60 euro to 80, that is an increase of 33% and is absolutely unacceptable. Unfortunately will not be playing this game until

Atrociously overpriced. Not only is this a remake of a game that came out ages ago, it has also been out for SIX MONTHS already on PS5.

This is NOT WORTH IT. Don't believe the hype. This is the same game with new graphics, and Square is just trying to capitalize on the name. I'm a huge fan of the Final Fantasy series, but this is just too much greed for me. Since they decided to price gouge on release, I'd suggest waiting for it hit $30, and grab it then. No need to get this right away.

I'd pause to consider, even if this was Final Fantasy 16. $60 is plenty for a AAA title, and nowadays you need to pay an extra $30 for the "season scam pass" just to get the full game.

Square just turned the greed up to 11. Don't take the bait.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. This is now the single biggest disappointment in my 35-year history of gaming. I played the original on pc back in 2000, so my opinion on the remake was coming from high expectations since it's been 20 years since the original and I've played every installment since then and they keep getting better. Personally, this was my #1 most anticipated title for the PS5, and is now an overwhelming letdown.

    Spoilers & old-man-stick-shaking ahead:

First, of all, I must be an idiot because I didn't realize that this isn't the whole game/story of FF7. I admit I avoided all trailers & reviews before playing it, but it's not like the title is "FF7:RI, PART ONE" unless "Intergrade" means "Part 1" & I don't know it? So I was massively disappointed to figure that out by playing up to that point and then getting slapped in the face with that insane reveal: To Be Continued...

Second, in my first playthrough 20 years ago, I made 2 mistakes in that playthrough:
One, I didn't know the twist, so I was beefing up Aerith without the knowledge that you lose her. I lost some great materia and armor that Aerith had equipped and there was no getting it back when she died unless you load up an old save point - but the twist was worth totally it, and it taught me a valuable lesson.
Two, I totally rushed through the game in my first playthrough so when I got to the end with Mother & Sephiroth, which is a point-of-no-return, so I was severely underpowered with no chance to win. After multiple losses, I admitted total defeat & had to roll back to a manual save point, which meant I lost hours & hours and had to grind to get to be powerful enough to have a fighting chance at the end; in hindsight, I deserved it because the original wasn't a game to rush through. All in all, I loved the original and probably played it start-to-finish 3 or 4 times.

So... this run through, I've been anticipating the coming loss of Aerith so I neglected her and opted to use other characters whenever possible. Only now do I know that there's no point to have done that because in this version, up to the cliffhanger, she's still alive so I could've been using her the whole goddamn time.

I was extremely disappointed in so many things about this Remake - I expected much more depth & dimension to the world and missions but everything was still mostly like the original - pretty much going point A-to-B-to-C with little option to stray from the main story's path. Also, seeing that it's been a quarter of a decade since the original, I was hoping for an upgrade in the Materia Summon animations, but I felt like they were actually a step backwards from the original. The OG FF7 had eyepopping visuals (compared to everything else in that ancient era of gaming) and I felt like the Remake was good but not mind-blowing for what gaming is capable of today.

I was hoping for extra dimensions to the game, like more enemies, a wider variety in armor, weapons, & abilities, or perhaps crafting; maybe they are there and I didn't explore everything, but I really feel like I traversed every back alley and tunnel and I completed every single useless side mission.

I also feel like maybe not all the story beats were covered - all the villains were not fully fleshed out, and Sephiroth, who was a hall-of-fame video game villain, one of the all-time greats, is just a shell of the original with little-to-no intimidation factor. How can we be through part one and not have a complete fear of Sephiroth at this point?

Also, come on - you don't even get a chance to equip Red XIII to your party? Seriously?!

There were so many mini-games in the original which maybe you don't get to until the next half, but, with all the lackluster and hollow gameplay up to this point, I'm so disappointed that I've lost all desire to play the next installment unless its a PS Plus freebie.

I guess I was just so hyped for the Remake since I played the original a full lifetime ago, and I was hoping to share this with my wife and kids and introduce them to a game I loved so much. This was just such a let down that, aside from a few cutscenes, so there wasn't much worth sharing.

If this was your first experience with FF7 or you're a FF diehard fan, maybe you love this, but I feel embarrassed for wanting this game so badly, only to discover that this is just half of a mostly mediocre game. Nostalgia is a ****

Go figure why the remake, while being a game 20 years later vastly better graphically, doesn't even succeed to reach at least the original game score, even here on this website ?

This DLC, conveniently released barely a year after the remake title, do you will really think it can save this whole remake ?
No, of course it's not... But it gives you the clear message of what this whole remake will be...
A disappointing major title claimed to be a proper and faithful "remake" that is actually a mediocre subpar Final Fantasy title that does hold to its parents' legacy and now is (and will be) filled with rushed DLC at full-price every now and then, trying to milk money from those who, for some reasons, are happy of what the story of the legendary Final Fantasy 7 has been turned into... or those in denial of what the vast project of remaking FF7 has ended into, thanks to the revengeful shenanigan of some people who believes every story should be a Kingdom Heart "fight fate and destiny and fans' will into a 4th wall-breaking fight against boss and ennemis impersonating them as a big F-you".

Intergrade is just the cheap sequel of a overwhelmingly sabotaged, disappointing remake.
The first of its kind, and we can all bet, surely not the last, for from it...

But it does have great cutscenes and made a 2D world in 3D showing off more then what was originally there in the PS1 version.
    Sound,
Has almost the same music as the PS1 version the difference is the Remake has more instruments.
While the music is not bad the surrounding sounds, voices, etc. seem to not know which needs to be louder. You could be done with an objective and listening to what the game wants you to do next but you won’t be able to hear it over the people in the background talking about their day and how they hate the Shinra company, this way too often.
    Gameplay,
Gameplay is 3rd person hack n’slash with a menu you can use to pause the fight so you can choose what magic or item you want to use. If you’ve played Kingdom Hearts, think of that but the menu can pause the fight. Playing through isn’t bad but if you want to grind like some people like to do so they can be ready for the next fight, you can’t, well sort of. You can grind but have to go to a simulator to have a better chance to level, you can grind outside but the respawn rate of these enemies is fairly long.
    The good is
    Story,
It follows the same story as the PS1 version but makes a turn halfway through the game. SE added extra stuff in to pad the run time since this game is only from the beginning to leaving Midgar, if you played the original, you’ll know this is like 10% of the game. I spent most of my time on the mini game, Fort Condor.
The difference in story comes like a dream, Cloud will go through the game like normal but will randomly see Sephiroth when in the original game he was never there. This begins the split in game because now you’ll be seeing ghosts. These ghosts come in when the story makes a change and tries to correct the story to the way it is suppose too. It later shows Sephiroth is behind this or at least ok with these changes.
    Intergrade Story,
This story is taken from Yuffies point making her come to Midgar because she’s apart of a group to take down Shinra. This by the way never happened. This is really it; she goes to Midgar does something that ultimately doesn’t matter she then leaves to go home, this takes all of 30 mins.
    Overall,
If you’ve never played Final Fantasy 7 and this is your first time with this story you won’t know any better, but at the same time you won’t know how the story is supposed to be and why it is being changed or what is being changed.
For those who have played FF7 and enjoyed the game, you will not like this game or not enjoy what SE is doing to the game.
Even if you enjoy the story the game is a very small part of what the original game is, if they follow the original story and change parts of it.
I can see SE making many main games of this Remake just to make money. They already made 2 other games branching from this game.

And Intermission gives you a good chunk of more story and intodruces Yuffie. She is, as the other members of the Group displayed in a truthfull way. They even addes more depth to her Character than ever. Just a great Addition overall.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. A game that I enjoyed playing more than anything else got a expansion that builds off on some of the games week points. And even included a fun mini game and 2 characters from the other ff7 games that were handled better than I could’ve expected. What’s holding me back on a 10 though is the main games flaws are still there. Some not fun puzzles, level design could use some work, and even though I like the new direction of the story, it’s delivery to the players is kind of dumped onto the player and can be confusing. Other than that I highly recommend this game for anyone especially rpg fans. Expand

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Haven't had to force myself through a game in a long time... but here we are.

Chapters 7-9 are some of the most slow and boring content I have played in a game in a long time. I had to break 9 and its unending series of fetch quests up over a month period to stomach getting through it (not to mention the cringe dance sequence).

The combat is just okay. Enemies are damage sponges and it is more flash over substance or depth. It is a series of rinse and repeat combat rooms for the most part and gets old after a while.

The progression system is weird and nothing but a percentage game offering very little past that.

The writing for the dialogue is pretty bad. I love JRPGs but compared to something like Persona 5 Royal it borders on cringe.

The dual sense experience is lackluster here, which was very sad because I love the controller's features on an immersion level.

The game looks beautiful, that is a positive. It is very polished and bug free.

I would skip this game honestly.

Final Fantasy VII Remake Intergrade is a complete package, telling the story of Midgar from two different perspectives. Both the main campaign following Cloud and his journey, and Yuffie's own adventure, are well told with tight and responsive gameplay along with an impressive graphical update. These tales each leave exciting questions to be answered, and this reviewer can't wait to see what awaits Cloud and his friends beyond the City of Mako.

Final Fantasy Remake Intergrade is technically impressive. Fixing many of the original release’s technical issues while also improving the game for next-gen hardware. INTERmission offers an excellent character edition with that of Yuffie with some excellent gameplay to boot. Intergrade is simply more of the best parts of Final Fantasy VII Remake.
