A fantastic remake of the original Final Fantasy VII. A reimagining of first third or so of the original game and this is truly the greatest final fantasy game ever created in my opinion (with second place going to the original). Can't wait for part 2 - Rebirth!

When it came out it made Jrpgs awesome in the west and people started to recognize the genre. To this day people still look back fondly on this game thinking about The amazing protagonist Cloud or the cute and hilarious Aerith as well as Sephiroth one of the most iconic video game villains of all time. However we are no longer in 1997 time has passed since the original Adventure with cloud and the gang. In 2015 Final fantasy 7 Remake was announced and it was a sight to behold a remake of a beloved game. So many were excited for this game and were excited to experience FF7 all over again except with a modern version of the game. I myself was excited although there existed a problem I was an Xbox and Nintendo owner I didn't have a PlayStation. So the game came out and I didn't get to play it at launch time passed and in 2021 I finally got my hands on a PlayStation 5 it was time to finally try it. One thing I should mention Final fantasy 7 remake is only part one of the remake there will be 2 more parts released later on. And when I went to play the game it was magical not only was it everything I wanted it to be, not only was it breathtaking, it was everything I ever wanted in a Remake of Final fantasy 7 and even more. The game in my eyes has surpassed the high expectations I had for it. Let's start by talking about the big thing the story. Final fantasy 7 Remake for the most part is the original story but with differences that make the story engaging and fresh even for people that have already played the original game. I really liked the added context for story and the expansion of Midgar it was absolutely phenomenal and it's amazing. Gonna talk spoilers rq towards the end of the game a decent amount of stuff happens that was not at all in the original game. Many out there dislike this and think it completely ruins the story and game. How do I feel about it you ask? I for one love the changes made it makes sense when you remember this is Final fantasy 7 Remade for modern times it never was gonna be 1:1 to the original. The story is the same it's just being told slightly differently and I absolutely love it so far everything that has happened I'm completely on board for it has me theorizing what's next and it has my absolutely excited for the future games and man if part 1 was this good I bet part 2 and 3 will be amazing too. I wanna touch on the topic of characters all of them have received amazing Voice acting and it matches the characters from the original game really well. I'm only gonna talk about 1 character for time's sake I'm gonna talk about my fav character of all time Aerith. In this game Aerith was treated with such respect that it just felt like FF7 Aerith in everyway but better in some ways and I love it. every scene with her made me really happy and to see her be done with Justice it's really touching I love the care that went into preserving what made Aerith great in the original game. As she was then she's adorable and absolutely funny while also being emotionally touching. I love everything they did with her I could go on and on but I'll move on. Let's talk gameplay the original Final fantasy 7 was a turn based RPG. For those in the know you probably noticed my last sentence was false which good eye. Final fantasy 7 the original uses an atb system which basically means enemies can attack you if you are too slow you do you gotta learn to be fast in it. In Remake they went for an action approach and let me just say. This is my favorite combat system in any video game what they have done here makes me really happy. Blocking attacks is important for defense and in a good amount of encounters helps defeat enemies with insane offensive abilities. After landing a lot of hits or waiting you get atb charges which in this game let you cast a magic or use an ability which uses the atb charge and these can help you turn the tide of battles. Materia also is here and let's you customize and make your own builds which adds to replayability and it's just an amazing system. The ability to switch characters at anytime makes it so you can have full control of the battle and just is so fun to perform. There's even more but I'll leave it at that. Music in this game is some of the best music I've ever heard one of my favorite soundtracks of all time easily. If it wasn't apparent from all the praise you just read Final fantasy 7 Remake is one of my favorite games of all time as of writing this I would probably put the original and remake as my 2nd fav of all time it just clicks with me and does things I personally adore in gaming. My final score for Final fantasy 7 Remake is a 10/10 I love this game so much Expand

The game still has all the good stuff from the PS4 release, and then some extra stuff with the Yuffie chapter. What’s not to like here? If you played the last one, you can carry your data over without fail, and it backtracks your story-based trophies too. Though it’ll become a little tricky making sure you’re up to speed with BOTH the PS4 and PS5 versions (if you haven’t finished the prior version completely) in terms of the Trophies; that’s one thing that could be addressed if it hasn’t already, as in PS5-to-PS4 data transferring so as to make things a little less cumbersome.

Final Fantasy remains a strong and completely relevant, important franchise in gaming and still innovates in the J-RPG scene with every release.

A Remake of perhaps my most beloved game that really accomplished what I believe it set out to do and I am very exceded to see where Square goes with this. Though it is more of a sequel reboot than a remake, I actually prefer it that way. Myself, and I feel a lot of other people, have wished they could forget about a game so they could experience it for the very first time all over again, and the remake trilogy will be the closest we ff7 fans will get to that operatunity (aside from anyone who might get amnesia). I heard a conspiracy theory before that the entire original game of ff7 was a vision in Aerith’s head; the fact that we see her face in the beginning and at the end could be used as evidence for this, but that seems a little weak. Though the remake seems to indicate that that could be true!
The only real criticisms I have with this game is that the expanded content wasn’t entirely perfect. The only chapter I felt to have been kind of unnecessary and drawn out was the revisit to the sewers in chapter 14 (it would have actually made a good side quest tho). It also would have been good if there were some side quests on top of the plate where I would like to have spent more time. A lot of the side quests they did have were a little tedious, but a few were a really nice touch and I also think the side content will likely be better in part two, as that game will probably cover more of the story and be able to more easily fit in new stuff due to the new timeline. I also didn't like it when the characters only survived because of fate, but fate is dead now, so that will be fixed in part 2 as well.
Ultimately, I cannot say I disliked or felt bored during any part of the game. I loved this game and everything else from the music, to the battle system, to the characters, to 95% of the story was perfect. Let's just hope they don't screw it up in part 2, but I've loved what they've done so far so I put my faith in them, for now anyway.

Anyway, this trash game was the result of this cash grab created by Square Enix, and the childish/cringe Nomura mind.
This is the objective demonstration of how much Nomura actually cares about all the people that simply asked for a faithful remake.

The gameplay is a mess, the plot is a cringe show of stereotype characters, and a nonsensical trash.
A cutscenes every 20 minutes and a totally linear maps don't incentive the 0 exploration of the game, with also atrocious side quest.
And this mess is only a portion of the original game, rewritten for create a new FF7 Compilation (again), and continuing to milk the same story for the next 2 generations...

With this being a reimagined and modernized version of the game, I sadly can not NOT compare this to the original FF as I write this. Obviously, graphically it is far superior to the original version, but that was the only aspect, that exceeded the original. The game struggled with the FF XIII tube-like world system - in OG FF 7, the world felt massive and open to explore (Yes, I do get that this isn't the full FF7 experience yet - the stroy continues) but this game is built the same way FF XIII was (My least favourite of the franchise so far) You watch a pretty cinematic (and they are pretty!) then you wander into a tube-like world with no real freedom to explore, mostly getting from point A to B. Then there is a bossfight and then you do it all over again. Luckily the delivery of this system is well polished and if you like games for their stories - this one is for you. I do have to wonder though, if I've never played original FF7, would I even have any idea what is going on most of the game or who is this Sephiroth dude, that just drops haikus and leaves mysteriously half of the times. I know I started the review on a bit negative undertone, but I actually did love my playthrough. It just can't compete with the original game experience, and that is fine. Pick it up if you are a FF fan - you will love it! Expand

I have a love hate for this game. I was a teen when this game originally released and I loved it. I realized now that the story is still great and relevant but the gameplay in this version is flawed if not broken in some battles. I prefer the original only because this was a bad execution of the active RPG mechanic.

I have a love hate for this game. I was a teen when this game originally released and I loved it. I realized now that the story is still great and relevant but the gameplay in this version is flawed if not broken in some battles. I prefer the original only because this was a bad execution of the active RPG mechanic.

Grinding isn't really a thing you can do but it feels very necessary and even if you try it's far more time consuming than before. Weapons, items, and accessories feel really useless throughout most of the game. I feel like the game heavily relies on its active battle mechanic but too many enemies have long portions where you just wait for your bar to fill and use magic. It always seemed like I spent too much time managing which materia and equips I had instead of playing which is kind of expected for an RPG but annoying for an active RPG. There's no quick swap for loadouts and that's just a huge fail.

Some standard enemy battles are way harder than boss battles. A few points had just a group of enemies that somehow wiped the floor with my team. Ones with grapples are the worst. The dodge time is incredibly specific and you can't block them. The enemies later in the game will almost always focus on the character you're playing which causes you to constantly jump around. I had moments where 4 enemies would team up and just do perpetual damage and grabs to every character I had control of. It was terrible.

I still love the story. The voice acting is pretty good. The graphics look great and I rarely ran into any problems with the game as long as you keep it in performance mode. Graphics mode is choppy and slow, almost unplayable. The quality improvement is marginal so keep it in performance. All in all I like it but you can tell this was made by people who understand RPG first and active action battle last.

The worst part of battle is that you can use a spell or ability and it can be canceled by any enemy at any time doing an attack on you. At some parts of the game this happening once or twice can mean you are going to run out of HP.

I'll give 10 to the dlc and 9 to the main part. This is definitely the top level JRPG. The characters look good and the actions are cool. The hard level bosses are both challenging and fun, and the story is hype for the original ff7 fans. The only bad thing is there are so many time wasting side quests. Utterly beautiful, with an excellent combat system that integrates real-time & turn-based play seamlessly. My only gripes may be that it is a bit too bloated, and the last 2 chapters are an unending sequence of boss fights (which for a certain type of player may be a plus, though). A stellar remake.

Final Fantasy VII Remake Intergrade is a complete package, telling the story of Midgar from two different perspectives. Both the main campaign following Cloud and his journey, and Yuffie's own adventure, are well told with tight and responsive gameplay along with an impressive graphical update. These tales each leave exciting questions to be answered, and this reviewer can't wait to see what awaits Cloud and his friends beyond the City of Mako.

Final Fantasy Remake Intergrade is technically impressive. Fixing many of the original release’s technical issues while also improving the game for next-gen hardware. INTERmission offers an excellent character edition with that of Yuffie with some excellent gameplay to boot. Intergrade is simply more of the best parts of Final Fantasy VII Remake.
