It speaks to the level of ambition on display here - not to mention a tolerance for risk - that Everspace 2 essentially jettisons the roguelike mechanics of the first game in favour of a much more open and looter focused shooter and is all the better for it. A superior sequel in every way, Everspace 2 delivers on the premise hinted at in its predecessor with aplomb, even if the story campaign that anchors its super looter shooter beats seems to be little more than window dressing for the other impeccable aspects of its design.

Everspace 2 on console is the best way to enjoy Rockfish's epic space sim RPG, with so much to do and tight and fluid controls that make combat thrilling every time.

Everspace 2 has a solid narrative, great arcade-style flight and combat mechanics, and an addictive explore, loot, and fight gameplay loop. That was true on the PC and it’s just as true on consoles. Everspace 2 is proof that an unexpected genre mashup like looter/shooter and space combat can play nicely together.

After changing its style from what it was before, EVERSPACE 2 delivers much more freedom to the player and improvements on the great gameplay it has. It still falls short in delivering a simplified and uninspired story and narrative, but excels in good combat and exploration.

I started Everspace 2 deeply unsure about a space looter shooter. Tens of hours later I don’t want to play anything else. Everspace 2 is a towering achievement of space-based thrills and spills. It absolutely deserves your attention.

Everspace 2 is a fairly polished experience that really feeds the compulsion to find more loot. Space combat is fluid and easy to comprehend, although potentially disorientating. I do find the storytelling can make the characters feel distant from one another but the overall plot had me intrigued. The grand expanse from space has been somewhat segmented but the scale on display is still admirable and there's a cool sci-fi vibe to all of it.

EVERSPACE 2 looks and plays amazingly with its intuitive and satisfying space combat and exploration. Even though it gets repetitive after a while, what's here still adds up to a special game that you'll gladly take off to the outer reaches of space for.

A full-on space opera looter shooter RPG, that is brimming with content and exciting combat set pieces, but which doesn’t quite know when to stop before it starts to feel repetitive.

This not a sophisticated simulation like Elite Dangerous or Star Citizen, with a deep realistic gameplay.
Everspace 2 is on the arcadish side, with a fun and simple gameplay. That said, if you miss games like Freelancer or Dark Star One, you really should consider to give it a try.

I was really looking forward to this game. A single-player, loot-based action rpg space game sound like a very fun game to me. But after 35I was really looking forward to this game. A single-player, loot-based action rpg space game sound like a very fun game to me. But after 35 hours I had to give up. First of all everything you do in the game feels incredibly slow: The ships movement, traveling between systems and the whole progress. Most of the time you are searching the areas for keys like batteries oder or energy cores to open boxes or doors. Often the game don't show you where to look for them so you just have to search all of the place what can be very exhausting due to the slow movement. You can buy ships with a higher agility but even those feel kind of slow and they have low armor what brings me to the difficulty. Even on the first two (of 5) difficulty level the game can be very challenging. Enemies just one level above yours can deplete your shield and armory with few shots while you hardly do any damage to them. And that happens fast if you just follow the main quest so you have to do some of the side quests and time consuming searching stuff. And that's why Everspace 2 feels so uncomfortable to play though graphics and story are not bad at all. Full Review »
