After racking more than 6 hours in the game, first, I would like to say that for a companion game never imagine how long the game is which is amazing!! The positive points are the graphics, aesthetically it was beyond my expectation, As far as the story goes well it was okayish "seen that before", characterization well it is what it is a companion game so we never really get to see them developed in an in-depth story characterization and development wise which expected, Overall story is OK.

Combat is a mix the animation/controllers are clunky if you haven't upgraded your character such as armors but once you advance to the game and did the necessary upgrade like any other JRPG the combat runs smooth specifically doing combos with the addition of Link attacks which is satisfying not the best but definitely not the worst.

The main problem i have with this game are the quests, especially the QUESTS, you have to fetch lots of quest in order to upgrade the town and the tasks become so repetitive and you need to run from here and there go back and for to an area such as forest, quarry.

For a companion game I think the devs did a good job and tbh honest I didn't expect much from this game but I do quite enjoy it for a free game (Backer privilege). Overall I give the game a 7/10 and this game made me excited about the main game which is set to be released by 2023 and will be the main focus of the devs and a true JRPG with a turn bases combat.

Nice retro-modern visuals can’t prevent this bitesize action RPG from the bloat of tedious filler, making Rising a weak appetiser for the forthcoming Hundred Heroes. [Issue#16, p.152]

As a prequel to the upcoming Eiyuden Chronicle – Hundred Heroes, Rising does a really good job at introducing players to the universe. Its simple, tight combat mechanics and smart level design elevate it from other side-scrolling action-adventure games. Although exploration is quite limited and combat is very basic (at least in the beginning), Eiyuden Chronicle: Rising stands on its own despite the fact that it was released as a prequel to one of the most anticipated JRPGs of 2023. I strongly recommend playing this if you’re into side-scrolling action-adventure games, even if you don’t plan to pick up Rabbit & Bear Studios’ Eiyuden Chronicle: Hundred Heroes next year.

The spiritual successor to Suikoden feels like a prologue that is full of good ideas that don't quite make the cut.
