In conclusion, The Final Form is a redemption for Bungie and a closure in style. A great story, interesting activities and plenty of content for any type of player are available in this new expansion. However, what was once a reason to make players hopeful about the future, at least in the near future, of Destiny 2 or the franchise itself, in this case the much-talked-about Episodes, is nothing more than a different name for content that doesn't offer anything all that new. The closure of the ten-year saga was exquisite and makes it clear that there is much more to explore in the universe, but if the game continues without more radical changes or any major revelations from Bungie that offer something to look forward to, this expansion could be marked as Destiny's last major event.

New Guardians may have plenty of questions as to what’s going on, but if you’ve spent any time with the franchise in the past, this is worth coming back for - the Final Shape is the new gold standard for Destiny.

Destiny 2: The Final Shape is a poignant tribute to the franchise's journey since its debut in 2014. It breathes new life into the existing classes with the versatile Prismatic subclass, introduces fresh enemies and locations, and weaves a narrative that'll likely tug at the heartstrings of even the most casual players. With more seasonal and story content on the horizon, Destiny 2: The Final Shape propels the series to new heights, solidifying its position as one of the top PVE multiplayer shooters in the gaming world.

I liked to tell myself that I didn't believe in perfect 10/10 games. To me a perfect game is something everyone, unanimously, can say has no issues. No shortcomings. However, Destiny 2: The Final Shape is perfect. Everything that Bungie has done these past nine years has come together in a video game version of Avengers: Endgame. The stakes, the action, the quality of storytelling, and of course the emotion has all merged into the best expansion, no, game I have ever played. If you have ever in the last decade been interested in or cared about Destiny, The Final Shape is a must play. Period.

Destiny 2 is back, baby. The Final Shape’s exhilarating and heart wrenching main story quest, beautiful and twisted new destination, terrifying new enemy faction, and plethora of insanely powerful gear solidify this as the new peak of the Destiny experience.

Whether you’ve stuck with Destiny from the very beginning, or you’ve had long breaks between expansions, or you’re new to all this, The Final Shape Campaign is superb – but for long-time fans in particular it’s one of the best expansions Bungie has ever produced and offers some great new content to get stuck into. Bungie absolutely needed to stick the landing with Destiny 2: The Final Shape, and by all accounts the team has done just that. Eyes up, Guardian – it’s time to finish this fight.

Destiny 2: The Final Shape provides a fitting conclusion to the long-running saga, delivering intense action, deep lore, and satisfying gameplay that fans have come to expect. While it may not introduce groundbreaking changes, it wraps up the story in a way that honors the journey players have been on. It’s a must-play for dedicated Guardians looking to complete their Destiny 2 experience with a memorable and worthy finale.

For better or worse, there is nothing like Destiny 2 and The Ultimate Forme has done nothing but remind us of this with great vehemence. Of course, this long journey was full of ups and downs, but it certainly cannot be said that it didn't have a worthy conclusion. The final expansion of the Bungie shooter is the best ever made to date and contains everything a fan desires: an unforgettable campaign, a whole new power, lots of new equipment and a really high amount of activities, especially if we add those that have just arrived with Episode 1, Echoes, which is proving to be more interesting than expected. In this regard, we ask you to apologize, but Failsafe draws our attention to Nessus, where we must return to fulfill our Guardian duties against the Vex.

I’ve been emotionally preparing myself to hang up my Arbalest and ride off into the sunset after The Final Shape. Destiny 2 is a game that means a lot to me, so much that I’m not prepared to watch it slowly turn into a shadow of what it once was. But this expansion restored my faith in Destiny and made me eager to see what the frontiers the future has in store. There’s been ups and downs over the years, but this proves the trajectory of Destiny 2 is onward and upward. It proves we can expect Bungie will learn from mistakes and that there are bigger and better things in Destiny’s future. I worried this would be the end, but now The Final Shape just feels like the end of the beginning.

The Final Shape is simultaneously Destiny 2's most personal, most daring, and most conservative expansion yet, pushing boundaries while also playing it safe.

Over the years, Destiny 2 has ballooned into a massive and unwieldy beast, filled with cooperative and competitive experiences, hundreds of named characters and organizations, and an often-unapproachable vernacular that can take a long time to learn to speak and play. With The Final Shape, Bungie makes no apologies for the complexity but does finally offer purposeful punctuation to mark an endpoint. Largely unencumbered by what has come before, the frontiers ahead are now open to be revealed.

An excellent conclusion to 10 years of world-building, which promises a bright future if the level can be maintained.

A ton of new features, neat playable mechanics, huge amount of content and, above all, a shot of nostalgia that hits the mark: The Final Shape is the perfect closure for 10 years of history and one of the best expansions for Destiny 2.

The Final Shape is Destiny 2 back to its best for its grand narrative finale. It's the ultimate space wizards with a machine gun fantasy combined with emotional story beats and characters you truly care for. Despite all the odds, Bungie has crafted the perfect endgame.

Destiny 2: The Final Shape feels like a promise fulfilled. We can't help but think back to all of the late night sessions exploring iconic corners of this vibrant sci-fi universe, and digging into all manners of lore to help make sense of it all. And now, despite it's ups and downs, we have a gratifying end to the decade spanning Light and Darkness saga, that evokes all those memories in one big celebration. Destiny 2: The Final Shape is the hope and dream of every other live service game out there. It’s a testament to Bungie’s unwavering commitment to a riveting saga that defied all odds, and did exactly what it set out to do. This one is for the fans.

Destiny 2: The Final Shape is the promised and deserved conclusion to a saga that began so many years ago. It combines a very well-structured (albeit predictable) narrative, wonderful setting and the usual excellent gameplay with some important additions. It's the best the franchise has to offer.

Bungie really outdid themselves with this DLC, which is a compilation of everything we’ve had that was best in this amazing universe. Incredible level design, smart puzzles, epic bosses, unpredictable battles, new classes, special missions… You name it! It has everything.

Destiny 2: The Final Shape brings one of the best Destiny experiences in years, if not the best. The new package of additional content brings a well-crafted campaign, both in terms of story and gameplay, a fun sub-class with a lot of potential for versatility, an interesting new world with fun activities that don't get too tiring, even after countless repetitions, and a fantastic and challenging endgame that closes everything The Final Shape has brought with a flourish. Even with a new season format that leaves something to be desired, the latest expansion has been an excellent addition to the game, and is practically a mandatory experience for lovers of this universe created by Bungie.

A campaign that celebrates Destiny and its history, plus tweaks that smooth many of the bumps in the overall experience, set everything back on track. [Issue#43, p.88]

Outside the campaign, The Final Shape does mostly well. The Pale Heart is a visually-arresting space to explore, though doesn’t change the Patrol Zone formula in any meaningful way. The addition of the Dread enemy faction and Prismatic subclass add freshness to the sandbox, though don’t offer any evolution to the way you’ll play Destiny 2. The only truly downright awful thing about The Final Shape is that, for $50, there’s still not a whole lot of included content, leaving Destiny 2’s core activities starved for anything fresh. Destiny 2: The Final Shape is, ultimately, more Destiny 2, and it provides a meaningful ending to the 10-year Light and Darkness saga.

  1. I might rag on Destiny 2’s level design (I’d probably do the same with Halo, honestly), but I can’t fault Bungie on its pedigree when it comes to making a shooter that feels great. It’s far easier said than done, and many shooters manage to be merely functional and serviceable rather than fun – looking at you, Starfield, Borderlands, Outer Worlds – but Destiny 2’s guns are genuinely great to shoot. It helps that smaller, weaker foes will usually get wiped out in a fraction of an Auto Rifle’s clip, instead of acting like perpetual bullet sponges. Having dozens of weaker foes to fight against is far more satisfying than one big bullet sponge, and Destiny 2 understands this, all the way up until you find a dungeon or raid boss.
