This is a terrible game that's way too hard. I hate that these games are being made because the resources could've been used to make something that everyone can enjoy. I honestly believe that anyone that gives a positive review to this game is a shill because no one likes getting lost and dying all the time.

Now that I've spent some time with it, I can truly say that this is a bad game. Dull and disrespectful of your time. It's only hard in that the controls were designed by a fool. It's like driving with your feet, and once your get the hang of that, it's the same boring grind over and over. Worst launch game I've bought since Orphen on PS2.. At least I can get some money for the trade in.

Imagine spending $500 on a new console and the only "new" game is a $70 port of a game that is over 10 years old. The doesn't do anything new or have anything added. Just play the copy you already own.

Demon's Souls is my first Soul's games ever, at the beginning i was afraid that will not have fun playing it until you learn how it works, the game becomes fantastic. I was able to beat the game and now i am in 2nd playthrough.

Absolutely fantastic graphics and fun gameplay. Love the darksouls-like games but contentwise this is probably the worst one. The levels and the bosses can't match the ones in the other games. Still I had a really good time playing for around 60 hours until I got my platinum trophy.

Its a 5/10. A ps5 game shouldnt control like this even if it is meant to be a 'faithful remake' (it isnt). The content is too light and there needed to be more items/armour/weapons (and I dont mean level locked special edition weapons that are useless as soon as you leave 1-1). The game visually is stunning (as it should be) bar the facial expressions of the characters. These are not good. Ps2 tier. Theyre not grotesque in the endearing way like in other Soulsborne games. They are just bad. Mass Effect Andromeda bad. And to address the elephant in the room and trigger hatemail - this is what happens when you let a non-japanese team make a souls game. American politics from the get go mar this game. The rubix cube characterisation is idiotic and is not needed in a japanese game made originally by japanese people. It only serves to show why so many people adopt a 'japanese games only' approach - theyre tired of propaganda in video games. There was none of this in any of the From Games prior. Consider it testament to how politics in the west ruin everything in gaming. I have a feeling that in the years to come we will look back on this game in embarrassment as blind pandering led to more offensive portrayals than it might ever have destroyed. I will say 'Satsuki' and move on. The control scheme doesnt make the most of the ps5's raw power. It still feels 'choppy'. Memes and player message palettes bordering on walkthroughs also have no place in Souls games. Souls games became popular because they were always themselves. They taught you rather than pandered to you. Reducing them to dated meme machines does them a huge disservice. We dont need pop anime or Simpsons references in games because all they do is lower the games content to the value of clickbait list fodder.

tldr : DS got a AAA makeover making it pretty but in return was made every bit as vapid as that classification suggests by the western stupidity injected into it.

-Second very easy booses (expect Flamelurker,Old King Allant,Maneater and Penetrator)- You can say:Mate why it is a minus for you?If the bosses are easy you can sit down and chill. And i had an answer to you that thats a minus, because the path to the bosses in most cases harder than a boss!(Example:Leechmonger,Tower Knight,Old Monk(NPC),Old Hero)
The main reason why i placed 8 is the quality of a remake carried by Bluepoint Games.Bluepoint have done an incredible job remastreting this game,Audio design,Textures,Soundtrack,Weapons and adding a new models to mobs is gave an pleasant experince in such game.
For the perfect job done by Bluepoint in give 10, and for the dogsh*t level-design and uninteresting bosses i give FromSoft 6 - in summary 8/10

Но вот на корявость анимаций боёв и тем паче добиваний никакой YоuTube повлиять не мог. Странно это видеть в "некстгене"!

The game is good. The price is not. 80€ (price in France, that's 97,50$) for a remake of an 11 years old game that mostly only get graphics ameliorations, that's completly overpriced. Definitly not worth it. Wait for a lower price or play the original game (which stay beautiful).

Some negatives I had were the fact that the game's crafting system still requires a lot of unnecessary grinding for specific items and the music in the remake isn't as memorable as the original. BluePoint also chose to pass on the opportunity to 'fix' the broken Archstone as well as redesign the lame 'Dragon God' boss fight.

Despite some minor nit-picks, this is the definitive version of the game.

The game runs smooth on performance mode, however it's too bad they somehow can't make it work with the best graphics. The difference isn't that great so i'd recommend to keep it on performance mode.

The game plays nice, the combat feels impactful and the different classes are fun to play.
This comes with a big downside: The AI.

Demon's Souls is a remake of the original in every sense of the word, which means that the janky AI and unrewarding PvP is still part of the game.
AI glitches from the original still work and the enemies still get stuck everywhere because of the bad pathing which really throws you off. PvP is still as janky as the original, it rewards exploiting lag and bad mechanics and punishes skillful play.

Hardcore souls fans will be fine and they'll enjoy it, but for me it was disappointing. This was the perfect chance to elevate the game to a higher level, but Bluepoint/From completely missed this chance.

Either way, i didn't like Demon's Souls. It's just boss after boss and that's it. That's the game. To me, video game needs to have way, way more depth and details to justify price like this. I can understand that this game is fun for fans.

However, it's just too difficult for casual gamers. For example, there are no difficulty levels that you can set or change.

I can't say much about the remake, as I haven't played the original, but I know that developer Bluepoint has done a very good job in the past, and I expect the same in this case.

5/10 because I see just too little warning for beginners, but also a very good game for experienced players familiar with the game.

In this game, it’s much easier to die, and no actual cause to make you continue, not even the combats are worth it.
Another thing are the points your character have, with many, many options that don’t really change anything in your gameplay, only making the game more complicated.
And, well, it is horrible to die for a boss and having to walk thorough kilometers and fight so many enemies just to fight the boss again, which turns out to desmotivate the player to even try again.
If the game were updated with a new system of checkpoints, and try to make some narrative, it would value something, but the actual price is crazy. If you really want to play it, wait to buy it.

A “remake” which doesn’t improve gameplay at all is just a better remaster. I couldn’t care less for super uber graphics if the combat feels old and clunky as the original game. Very lazy job, not worth the money

It's been a while since the last time i left a review, but seeing all the really low scores really grind my gears, so here it is: this game, is a perfectly functional and good remake, period. I get that some people set their expectations too high and wanted something along the lines of Resi 2 remake, and sure enough, this doesn't achieve those heights, but not being exceptional DOES NOT equal being bad, not finishing in the podium in the olympics doesn't mean you're a bad athlete. Anyway, as a souls veteran who loved the original DeS and who has platinumed every single souls game to date, I can tell you that this game is good and it's everything I expected: The same game but prettier and with some Quality of life improvements, and viewed as that, Bluepoint did a terrific job at it, there's nothing groundbreaking here but it accomplishes what it set out to do.
GAMEPLAY: it's untouched for the most part, the same good ol' DeS that you remember. With a great overhaul to inventory management since now you can send items to storage if you don't have the space, which was one of the major gripes with the original. Another plus is that you now have 8 way run while locked. Besides that the only small changes I noticed: 1. the fast roll seems slower and with less i-frames 2. certain weapon animations are a tiny bit different (barely noticeable). People complaint that the game is boring and lacking compared to newer From soft titles, but that's now fault of the remake, it's just that the mechanics of DeS are more dated since it was the prototype for the souls games; then again it's a delicate balance between remaining faithful to the original or having innovation, bluepoint chose being faithful which is pretty respectable.
GRAPHICS: Absolutely beautiful, your jaw drops at the details and definition, plus the fps. It takes the experience to a new level. There's been controversy over some redesigns, and while some of the changes are debatable (fat ministers), it really doesn't stick out like a sore thumb or anything, hell, once you're playing you really don't notice at all. I was for instance, thinking I prefered the original Dragon god that looked more like a dinosaur instead of an alienoid creature, but once I got to him not only did the experience remain true, but I actually came to appreciate the new desing on it's own terms. And there are many original desingns that had to be recreated where they nailed it, plus facial expresions (patches is **** glorious, every bit as punchable as I imagined him in real life), Selen Vinland is much better in my opinion, depraved ones are also great. As for people saying that the "tone is lost" "it doesn't have the same feeling", I don't really know what game they played...... the tone remains, it's all dark fantasy, with gritty, decadent landscapes, but with much, muuuuch more detail and definition.
MUSIC: Another point that extreme purists like to make a big fuss about. The music is fine guys, the complaints come from plain nostalgia. Original music is minimalistic because of budget, proof is that Miyazaki himself in subsequent works like DS, BB and Sekiro, has used full Orchestras to do pieces with high production value. If DeS had had more budget, it would've gotten music similar to this. My favourite piece is the Maiden AStrea tune, and I'm glad to say I enjoyed the arrangement they made.
SURPRISES¡?¡?¡?: Barely any, like I said, if you expect to be blown away by a title that seems like a whole new game a-la Resi 2 remake, with tons of new content, the sixth archstone, more endings, all the improvents from newer from soft titles, then you're gonna be dissapointed. this is just an overhauled version of the original, it has a couple of new items here and there, and a new set of armor hidden behing a very complex gathering quest, plus a "reverse world" that flips the map around, that's it, no more, no less.

Bottomline is....... as a long term fan who regards original Demons as a 10, this is an 8 for me, I can see other fans giving maybe a 7. If you're not a fan of the original or the series, I can see picky gamers going down all the way to 6 o 5, taking into account the price tag. But 3s and 0s? come on guys.... "I can play the same game on my ps3, why pay full price for an old game?", yeah right, Imma go to my attic, dust off my 15 yr old console, hope it still works buy an 11year old game and let my brand new PS5 stay idle, great plan..... if that's your thing go at it, if like me you want to relive the experience through fresh eyes, buy this one, for me it's worth it.
Edit: after finishing the game and spending many hours in it pvp included, i can say that its mor than i saw firat hand, this is a 9. New armor sets, new spells, mirror mode, chance to de agro npcs that you angered, ñess lag with pvp not centered around backstabs, its a very good job

With all the customization available to players, you'd think there'd be an option to use the original soundtrack. Above anything else (including the enemy redesigns), that is my biggest gripe. The new compositions lack the charm of the original tracks. The Prison of Hope's new atmospheric soundscape isn't as haunting as it once was either, but I dig the soundscapes of the other areas. The enemy redesigns are hit and miss. Some of them aren't very noticeable (like the dragons, dreglings, blue/red eye knights, the Penetrator, etc), but others are downright outrageous (the iconic Fat Officials, in particular).

But, beneath all the fresh paint, it's still Demon's Souls. And Demon's Souls is great. Is it $70 great? Not really. It's a game that's over a decade old and there aren't many additional bells and whistles added to the remake's gameplay, other than a few quality-of-life improvements. In some respects, it's faithful to a fault but somehow different enough to throw you off your muscle memory from the original.

Despite all these conflicting feelings, I still think the Demon's Souls remake is great. I also think the original should be re-released so that this doesn't erase it.

This game is not a challenge, it’s a punishment. Technically and artistically this game is awesome, but the core design choices, like the absolutely unforgiving nature of it, the lack of proper saves, the necessity to retrace an enormous amount of a level every time you die, the “adaptive” difficulty level where if you die the game becomes harder (you got that right) by giving you only half your health until you defeat an enormously difficult boss, that is, if you even manage to get to it through all the other NPCs, now that you health is halved. And if you keep losing, you’ll find yourself running out of items and having weapons in need of repair, which is only fixable by farming the easier to kill NPCs, until you collect enough souls. You can even die in a safe heaven in this game and lose all your souls… If you still want to get this game, don’t buy a digital download, get a disk version, at least you can resell it later. Expand

One thing about this game that bugs me is that it feels incomplete. Some of the bosses are a joke and gimmicky. At times you face a boss directly after facing one making one think that there were supposed to be other section in between that never got developed. Even the sixth archstone feels like it should indeed be there. I think this may due to funding being cut as this was considered a failure when Miyazaki took it over. I suspect they were not willing to dump anymore money into it. Even the cut scene where the Monumental explains the archstones mentions the 6th one. This leaves the game feeling half baked and the bosses are quite lacking.

Even so, the game is quite a blast and very repayable as you can always try new builds with new weapons. There is much to be said about a game that spawn its own genre. Even though the game is relatively easy compared to modern Souls titles, its still quite a challenge and well worth the price of admission.

The game has beautiful graphics but the gameplay sadly is the first iteration of the Souls genre, hence it is not very engaging or fluid. The game also suffers from tedious runs to bosses if you die and do not manage to kill the boss. Instead of practicing to kill the boss, you have to go through a gauntlet of annoying enemies and only make it to the boss half of the time.

Fantastic remake of the game that started the whole SoulsBorne genre.
Not the best game in the series in my opinion but a must play nonetheless.
Great atmosphere and level design, chunky and sweet combat, lot's of secrets and interesting mechanics to deep dive into.
The bosses might feel lacking if you play this after the best bosses of Sekiro or Bloodborne though.

You see, the new Demon’s Souls shows clearly how much Miyazaki’s games have evolved throughout the years. The Dark Souls series simply does everything better. The remake looks like a prototype in comparison, while still being way ahead of other developers’ achievements in this genre. [01/2021, p.46]

Overall, Demon’s Souls is still the most interesting and varied game in the Souls series. This remake not only looks lovely on the PlayStation 5 but is also a joy to play with all the tweaks and improvements that have been introduced. Now if only people would look past its supposed difficulty and see its carefully crafted intricacy instead.

I went in expecting the world out of the Demon’s Souls remake and it delivered me the galaxy. I don’t normally speak this highly of games, but this is the one exception. Absolutely every facet of the original has been enhanced and it has stood the test of time. Bluepoint has done an incredible job at not only reinvigorating an underappreciated gem, but also leveraging the new technologies afforded to them with Sony’s new system. While there are a couple of minor technical blemishes, they don’t take away from how good of an experience this game is and Bluepoint’s diligence as a developer will surely see these kinks ironed out. This game is a system seller.
