Fantastic visual; my jaw was draping constantly playing this game. Bluepoint did a glorious job. What fantastic game design buy from software I have never been a soul's borne guy before this game but this game made me one. Now I went back to play Dark Souls 3 and Sekiro.

Demons souls PS5 is a fantastic game ! I think it respects all the aspects of the original game.
    Pros:
    - Good Remake
    - Next-Gen graphics
    Cons:
-Not recommended for a new beginner to the souls franchise
    -Mediocre story

Overall, I would recommend it if you're up to a challenge and if not don't buy it.

Demon's Souls is a very good remake of the iconic playtation classic, yet it's just like Dark Souls Remastered with better graphics and visuals.
It inherits all the problems of the original and tries to cover it with beautiful visuals, that's probably this remake's biggest mistake.

I don‘t understand, why some people hate, because it ,,only‘‘ is in 1440 p and 60fps. When the game would run in 4k and 60fps, it would not be so beautiful like the game now. Some people are really stupid. It‘s a very good game.

I didn't play the original. This was my 1st game to buy and play on PS5, and it met most of my expectations. I played it every chance I got and platinumed it after 60 hours. Tower knight fight is something I will never forget, the feel of steel hitting steel is a great demonstration of PS5's next gen capabilities and is executed superbly.

Now onto negatives. There isn't much that Bluepoint studio introduced gameplay wise. I wish the world 4 was longer. I only played DS3 from the soulsborne series, so comparing it to DS3 I wish this had a higher replay value, it feels much shorter and there seem to be less builds you can try (I played as a spell sword). As I platinumed it I don't feel compelled to replay it immediately like I wanted with DS3. But I'm holding on to my physical copy because I probably will one day.

First I have to say, I didn't play the original. I played Bloodborne and Sekiro, so I'm not new to the souls genre. For somebody who hasn't had the chance to play the origin of the Souls Series I was excited to play the Remake, as I don't own (or will ever buy) a PS3 console now.

First warning: If you're not into hard games with unchangeable difficulty level, then go away, because you probably will be frustrated by this game. That being said, it is a nice start in the Souls Series because it it easier than Bloodborne for example. If you understand a boss you can probably beat him even with terrible timing.

Level Design stays close to the original I heard and isn't nearly as clever as in Bloodborne. Before some Bosses there are shortcuts, before others not. Nonetheless I liked the game and the bosses, because they were diverse and after a few tries easy to beat. The graphics are astonishing, though not as scary and depressing as in the original (as far a I can tell from youtube videos). The remake has some quality of life improvements (send to storage function, sodden ring). Online Mode ist nice, but for the start you should play offline until you are confident enough to encounter other players who want to kill you (or if your are struggling with a boss and need some help). Like any other soul game, you have to figure out good builds, weapons and additional stuff on your own. No shame to seek help in Lets Play and Walk Throughs for the start.

I also liked the Soundtrack, though I heard from many that the OST in the original was better. I think it ist mostly because of nostalgia, I would also be angry if they made a Bloodborne remake and changed the soundtrack, because during countless Boss fights this music burned itself into my mind. When you played the original your are not set to like the remake, but in my opinion you should give it a chance. For me this remake was justified because the souls series gained its fanbase mostly through Dark Souls and Bloodborne, so most of them haven't had the chance to play this game. I am glad I was able to and don't regret buying it for 80€. High Price, yes, but worth it I guess. Especially to call it robbery, like some of the reviews did, is an exaggeration. Wait for a sale if it's too much for you or honor the developers if you can afford it.

Bluepoint Games has delivered a spectacular revival of one of my all-time favorite games. This game is Bluepoint Games's greatest accomplishment yet. They managed to surpass the original Demon's Souls, which was already an incredible game. In its place, they created what I consider to be THE BEST Souls game to date.

The attention to detail is superb, translating into breathtaking visuals and a vivid atmosphere. The gameplay, although tweaked a little in order to modernize it, remains true to the original. The game is personally much more enjoyable now, since not only were some of the original game's faults corrected, like a less fluid combat system (which feels very intuitive in the new game), but also some of the new elements like weight on plants add a new layer of difficulty.

The improvement in graphics is surreal, as Bluepoint redid all the models and textures in the game. Not only that, but things like animations and lighting have also been highly upgraded. Other elements like shadows and water dynamics behave as if it were real life. The level of polish in this game is practically unmatched right now. Some would even call this game a true cinematic experience. In short, this is a must-have for all players.

PS: The people giving this game a rating of zero, one or two are either clearly trolls or have nostalgia glasses too deep into their eyesight.

Firstly by gimics I mean stuff like the spirit system is just not very intresthing, its basically you having less health for most of the game, the world tendancy mechanic can also be very confusing, and gameplay wise it is very rare in this game to feal like you get stronger or get cooler equipment, their is no extremly epic things you can do.
Secondly getting to the bosses can be such a tedious endevour, like theirs this great boss called the flamelurker, which is a real fun fight to learn but actually getting their in the quickest way involves falling down a shaft were you can very easily miss a ledge and insta die, it is so tediouse, and the bosses themselves arent all that, I ve never level grinded and I changed weapons about 3 times in the whole game yet most of the bosses were either incredibly lame gimmicks or way too easy, their were only a handfull of bosses that were a genuine fun challenge such as the flamelurker, maneater or penetrator, it is really lame how most of the final bosses per world were just painfully easy gimmicks like playing red light green light with the dragon god, or using a new weapon to shoot the enemy in the sky that cant rl hurt you.
I feel like I may be judging this game unfairly since the last souls like I played was elden ring, and I kept comparing it to that, but I just feal like this game is just one of the most boring souls like a played, were most of the frustration comes from the level design rather then the challenge of the bosses.

But unlike Bloodborne, Demon's Souls wrapped me with its arms. It didn't let me go. Sure, when i started to play first time, i got frustrated easily. But this is what Souls games do. You have to be patient and try again and again. After that when you got strong, the pleasure that you feel is unexplainable. You can feel your attack hit the enemy more beautifully, unlike many other games. This is a PS3 game when you look back through the history, But when you play it, it doesnt feel like it. It feels like a next gen game from the ground up.

I thank to From Software (for doing a core mechanic like this for beyond its time) and Bluepoint Games (for doing such a crazy remastered game like this and making all people call this game remake). The words become insufficient for describing this game. Thank you again. I recommend everyone to play this game. Also if you have time, you should play with every character and try different builds. Because all these characters and all these builds would make you feel that you are playing a new game but not the same game.

FYI : I got the Platinum Trophy :)

As a pretty big souls fan, I was very excited to see a new souls game coming out for the ps5, although a little skeptical since it was made by Bluepoint and not fromsoftware. I have never played the original demon souls for the ps3 so I went into this game completely blind and excited, and I was not let down, though its not a 10/10 because of a couple issues.

Story- Like all the other souls games, Demon Souls tells a great story through its world, npc dialogue, and item descriptions. There are many interesting characters with their own quest lines that are fun to complete as well as some great bosses that of course have their own story to tell.

Gameplay- I really like the weighty feel of all the weapons in this game, even the spells which I never used in ds3, it makes all the weapons seem powerful in their own way. I would have to say the biggest problem with the game was the bonfires, they are very spaced out, making every time you die more of a chore to get back to where you were, it can be very bad when there are more maze like areas which can make back tracking a real hassle. Other than that, exploring the super atmospheric areas that are crawling with enemies and dangerous hazards, while still being beautiful, is some of the most fun I had with this game, and the best part is at the end of an area, they throw a challenging boss at you.
Bosses: Some bosses are great, challenging yet fair, fun to learn, and cool/ intriguing designs, but there are a couple bosses that do feel a bit lack luster, either because they were way too easy or redundant, like the dragon god which was less of a fight and more of a puzzle.

Weapons: Its almost a good and bad thing that you can tell that this is the game that started the souls franchise, because there are not many weapons in this game, mainly in comparison with all the others. This might just be a me thing, but I wished there was a wider selection, especially when you are choosing a strength build, you just do not get a lot of choices. Other than that, a lot of the weapons are very cool, and like I said before, they have a nice feel to them and some weapons were a real challenge to get yet rewarding.

The light and dark mechanic: Since iv never played the original I was kind of confused about this mechanic in the game, I dont feel like going into depth on what it is, but to sum it up, each area can have either a "light tendency" or a "dark tendency", you get a certain amount of light tendency by killing enemies and bosses, and dark by skipping enemies, killing npcs, and dying too much. I did not like this mechanic very much and I felt like it could have just not been in the game, mainly because there are some items or quests that require a certain tendency, so sometimes you will have to start a new playthrough just to acquire and item you missed because you weren't killing enough enemies and were dying too much, as well as the fact that this mechanic has no bearing on the outcome ending, as far as I can tell.

Graphics: Not much to say, graphics are amazing and it runs great, definitely looks like a triple A game for a next gen console

I would recommend demon souls to both new and seasoned souls players. There are a couple issues with this game, but compared to what the game gets right, those issues can be overshadowed. Along with the new ratchet and clank, the Demon Souls Remake by Bluepoint is a great way to start of the ps5.

First of all I will say that while I can agree with others that the fromsoft art style has been somewhat sacrificed from blueprints improved graphical fidelity, since I never played the original I wasn’t really missing much. I thought the graphics looked awesome and I was constantly saying “damn that looks so good”. Would have been better if they somehow kept the art direction, sense of darkness and creepiness of fromsoft art style it would have been better, but I still think it looks great. The hub world looks IMO 10x better now than the original.

Gameplay wise, it is exactly the same as the original apparently and you can definitely tell. If you go into this expecting a brand new souls game, you’ll be disappointed. If you go into this expecting to play the first souls game ever made, with a fancy new graphics coat, than your expectations will be met. I like to think this game was mostly made this way because a lot of people (like myself) never got to play the original, and now we can in 60fps 4K. It would have been cool to have a fully remastered game including mechanics but I am happy with what it is just because I got to experience demons souls for what it was gameplay wise. Was funny playing with janky dated mechanics in 60fps. I still like this remake more than ds2 scholar or something lol

Definitely the easiest souls game by far. Especially with magic. Got the platinum in less than a week with the most tedious part being grinding for specific item. The world tendency thing in demons souls was a cool idea they tried but the execution was poor, if you aren’t planning out how you are playing the game world/character tendency wise, it can be very frustrating to fix. Overall it’s just the most bare bones souls experience (a la the first one lol) with new graphics. Nothing ground breaking here but for souls fans who havnt played demons souls original this game in my opinion does it more than justice. Still better than ds2

This complete remake would easily push Demon's Souls to a 10 if it was not for the fatal flaw of lacking an ability to manage your characters without deleting all of them. This is such a strange oversight for a well established and Triple A studio.

I would highly recommend either iteration of Demon's Souls.

Clunky & slow, needlessly grindy (like getting herbs), bad online gameplay, and some odd remake-specific decisions...if you've played any of Demon's Souls successors, you've gotten used to playing with the improvements made to these original elements, and it's likely this game will feel pretty poor in comparison.

The bosses being more mechanical than the bosses in later Souls games was something I needed to get used to. Once you figure out the mechanics you will never die to most bosses again... except for one... the infamous maneater...
If you think maneater was bad on ng, it is nowhere near the experience you will have on ng+ or ng++ and it is astonishing that they have not made any changes to the bossfight or at least increased the width of the bridge. It is borderline RNG which attacks he does and if you get hit, you'll more often than not drop off the bridge. Yet this is not the worst part, since you can learn to dodge or block the attacks. Once the fight starts, a timer starts for a second maneater to appear. If you are unlucky and the initial maneater decides to do more aerial attacks, during which he can only be hit by spells and arrows or he just flies off and you'll have a horrible experience when the timer runs out and you have to fight 2 of them at the same time. If you melee only on the NG+ you'll hit your wall here.
The combat in general is fine. iframes feel much shorter than in other games of the souls series though I have not done any research here. Unfortunately tight corridors make it much less interesting and more often than not you'll just hit behind your shield and let enemies hit first. The amount of ranged enemies you'll encounter in these corridors will also leave you with mixed feelings about the game.
The soul-form mechanic (getting a 50% health penalty for dying) seems stupid to me, especially for people new to souls games but if you are a souls veteran it will not influence your gameplay whatsoever as bosses are mechanical and require a less reactive playstyle.
The hardest encounters in the game are the 5 Pure-Black-World-Tendency Phantoms. They are no joke in NG+ cycles. If you get hit, you die, they have massive healthpools and defenses and one of them almost instant heals once he reaches 30% so good luck with that :)
The overall experience is good tho and as long as it is on PS Plus Extra I recommend playing it. NG is fun and the experience is pretty good (based on NG only it is a solig 9/10). Only NG+ Cycles and make the game much less enjoyable at many points and Magic builds start to massively outperform traditional melee builds.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Demon’s Souls (2020) is an action role playing game, developed by Bluepoint Games, and remake of a 2009 game by the same name. The game was released on November 12, 2020 as a launch title for the ps5.

While most people who play video games have at least heard of the Dark Souls games, far fever know about its spiritual predecessor – Demon’s Souls. Demon’s Souls will feel familiar to anyone who has played any of the newer FromSoftware games.

The combat is very similar to the original Dark Souls, being slower and more focused on defence than in Dark Souls 3 or Bloodborne.

But Demon’s Souls also has some unique mechanics, for example, world and character tendency which make the game easier with worse rewards or harder with better rewards, depending on your actions. Unfortunately it is really easy to manipulate tendency in a way that restricts the player from experiencing unique events and questlines only present on the absolute ends of the spectrum.

Another aspect of the game that differs from the other games is the level design. In other FromSoftware games you play in multiple large levels, with multiple checkpoints in them, that sometimes have shortcuts to other levels in the game but the levels are scaled differently and the player is still directed down a path of gradually increasing difficulty (higher level enemies). In Demon’s Souls however there is no open world but instead there are 5 archstones which each have 3 to 4 levels in them. After finishing the tutorial level (1-1) players can choose which archstone to play next. Each level also is not connected to any other levels except the previous and next in the same archstone and the nexus (hub area) and has only one checkpoint. I like this approach because it means that the developers can make smaller levels with different themes and secrets that make the levels stand out. It also gives the player a lot of freedom when it comes to what level they want to do next. Unfortunately, quite a few of these levels are linear hallways or open areas of nothing which means that the player will not look for secrets but just rush to the boss. Another problem with this level design is that the difficulty curve is very poorly designed because all 5 archstones are designed so they can be done in any order (with some exceptions), which means that after beating about half the bosses the game becomes too easy.

The healing system is also different in this game because healing items do not refill on death, they are all consumables (except spells). This also messes with the difficulty because at the start of the game you may have to grind to buy more healing items meanwhile at the end of the game you will have enough to tank hits and kill bosses without dying.

The remake does not change any of the main gameplay systems, but it does add some quality of life changes, for example, being able to send items to storage straight from your inventory and being able to teleport between any level in the game without going to the nexus. But the most noticeable differences in this remake are the visuals. The game not only looks gorgeous with its effects and environments, it also runs in 60 fps which makes the gameplay feel smoother and more enjoyable. The game also showcases the new dualsense controller very well, using the haptic feedback and adaptive triggers to increase immersion.

As someone who has played every single FromSoftware game since the original Demon’s Souls I can easily recommend this game to fans of soulslikes or people who want to experience what the ps5 can do. The game has mechanics that make it feels somewhat unique and it is one of my favourite games in the series. That said I cannot recommend it to everyone because some people might find the game too frustrating or might not want to pay 70 dollars for a game that only takes around 16 hours to beat. Players who have already played the original would have to decide for themselves because even though I think this is the best way to experience the game, I do not think it would be worth 70 dollars.

You can get item pick ups but sometimes you can go an hour without finding a single health item. How ever it is possible to dodge most attacks. So essentially if your good enough you can make it through levels and not take damage but getting that good at the game would probably take a very long time. Overall it's a great game and it's fun to have some challenging games out there as these days you just don't get them. Even the hardest difficulty on allot of games these days is the equivalent of normal mode in most classic games. I also hate the fact with modern games you can skip missions or it constantly tells you what to do. You'll be doing a puzzle and your character will blurt out what to do next. It removes the hole point in gaming. Why play a game if you're gonna skip puzzles or have the game tell you how to do everything. It removes the feeling of achievement and this is what you get when you spend ages improving and then finally best a level or the complete souls game.

It’s a perfect remake and I think the only people who might be disappointed with it are… the die-hard FromSoftware fans. You see, the new Demon’s Souls shows clearly how much Miyazaki’s games have evolved throughout the years. The Dark Souls series simply does everything better. The remake looks like a prototype in comparison, while still being way ahead of other developers’ achievements in this genre. [01/2021, p.46]

Overall, Demon’s Souls is still the most interesting and varied game in the Souls series. This remake not only looks lovely on the PlayStation 5 but is also a joy to play with all the tweaks and improvements that have been introduced. Now if only people would look past its supposed difficulty and see its carefully crafted intricacy instead.

I went in expecting the world out of the Demon’s Souls remake and it delivered me the galaxy. I don’t normally speak this highly of games, but this is the one exception. Absolutely every facet of the original has been enhanced and it has stood the test of time. Bluepoint has done an incredible job at not only reinvigorating an underappreciated gem, but also leveraging the new technologies afforded to them with Sony’s new system. While there are a couple of minor technical blemishes, they don’t take away from how good of an experience this game is and Bluepoint’s diligence as a developer will surely see these kinks ironed out. This game is a system seller.
