This was my first experience with Demon Souls and boy was I lucky. The graphics are insane, the loading speeds are mind boggling, and the animations are all so smooth. Really love every environment and overall atmosphere. Bosses really felt and looked like they could come out of your screen with how good their textures looked.

    1. The Remake Has Its Inventory send to the storage guy in nexus if ya pick to much up where as in OG you would have to sacrifice gear to pick it up or run back to Nexus to drop stuff in storage then run BACK to get What ya wanted.
    2. 60 FPS is just Objectively better then The OGs Unstable FPS.
3.Omnidirectional Rolling absolutely OBLITERATES the Old Fashioned 4 direction Rolling which leads to a Much better Gameplay experience Overall then the OG from just this slight Change.
    4. The animations on ripostes and Backstabs are much more diversified and unique then the OGs.. Just animations in general in remake is far superior.
Look those rating this game 1/10 doesnt know what a Real 1/10 game looks like and should be absolutely ashamed of themselves to give such a BS Score, The game Is A Freaking masterpiece in its own right and has OBJECTIVLY better Upgrades as i listed above over the OG that just makes for a Much better experience. The ONLY valid complaint is not liking the new Art style or Music but the actual Core of the game is just simply Better then The OG. Not the best souls game ever as Bloodborne still holds that title but its Definitely a Must play Masterclass of a game thats far better then 99% of other Triple A games out in this modern age.

The original was what got me into harder games. This remake brings back so much nostalgia for me. Updated graphics, quality of life improvements, 60 fps, the haptic feedback on the controller along with the sound redesign. It's like a whole new game. Don't listen to the people rating this poorly. Especially if you're a souls fan.

Great souls game with amazing graphics. One of the "must-buy" games for PS5 for sure! I played Bloodborne before this and although I find BB has a beter story, map and enemies, this one wins by far in graphics and framerate (30 vs 60). In conclusion, if you enjoy souls games and own a PS5, please make yourself a favor and get this gem.

If you come from a Dark Souls saga, this game is a frustration. Beautiful graphics, but just that. There are only 3 bosses that challenges you and thats it. The only dificulty for this game is the gangspank in the maps with only 2 bonfires between a horde of enemies and a cenario that has a goal of killing you in every way possible.

Playing Demon's Souls first time after all other soulslike games is like watching old Star Wars movies after new ones. It's quite good but not that awesome as it could be if I had played it before.

Of course graphics on PS5 is great. Elden Ring developers envy that they can't reach that level of graphics. Also it's great that there are no issues with hitboxes like in other FromSoftware

Of course graphics on PS5 is great. Elden Ring developers envy that they can't reach that level of graphics. Also it's great that there are no issues with hitboxes like in other FromSoftware games. Probably because it's because the game was remade by Bluepoint.

Lore is also not that great as in BloodBorne or even Dark Souls. But from other point it's good to know how it all have been started. It's quite obvious that some bosses with minor changes have been migrated to DS/BB.

And one more thing - Demon's Souls is great for newbies - it's really easier than other soulslike. The main point - go to 4-1 and 4-2 zones as early as possible and you'll be safe and sound :)

Every time you get hit, it's because the game acted in an unexpected, janky way. There are so many situations that have 0 to do with skill, it's unreal. The hitboxes and animations feel like theyre from 2009. Like some of the hitboxes are the worst I've seen in a LONG time. Literally, there will be a plank of wood, and your character will move AROUND IT IN A 6 FOOT RADIUS. This means platforming/falling (necessary to progress) will 100% get you killed in a playthrough. You wont avoid it. speedrunners will avoid this game like the plague due to the inconsistensy of this game's systems. The people giving this a 10 should be investigated for fraud, theyre being paid. The bugs alone push it down to an 8, the non updated systems push it down to a 5, but the absolute sheer amount of **** that is unpolished in terms of modernization and balance, puts it down to a ONE. The absolutley mind boggling stupidity and bull****tery of the AI coexisting simultaniously is one of the most facepalming gameplay experiences of the modern day. You'll see enemies attack random objects, or kill themselves for no reason! But then, other times they will SPAM in a way where you cant even escape! Another thing, the camera doing unexpected movements, or your character not obeying you will get you killed, 99% of the time. You can be locked on and your character will face away to shoot projectiles due to a bug??? Not even to mention how OFTEN THIS GAME EATS INPUTS. TOO MANY TO COUNT. Also locking on doesnt prioritze threats, it feels so maliciously coded, just to F you over. Everything feels so dated other than graphics. Use this UI, for example, and tell me it's acceptable in 2022. Go ahead, I dare you. Idk man...just reallllly tough to defend. We deserve better for next gen. Expand

It's been a while since the last time i left a review, but seeing all the really low scores really grind my gears, so here it is: this game, is a perfectly functional and good remake, period. I get that some people set their expectations too high and wanted something along the lines of Resi 2 remake, and sure enough, this doesn't achieve those heights, but not being exceptional DOES NOT equal being bad, not finishing in the podium in the olympics doesn't mean you're a bad athlete. Anyway, as a souls veteran who loved the original DeS and who has platinumed every single souls game to date, I can tell you that this game is good and it's everything I expected: The same game but prettier and with some Quality of life improvements, and viewed as that, Bluepoint did a terrific job at it, there's nothing groundbreaking here but it accomplishes what it set out to do.
GAMEPLAY: it's untouched for the most part, the same good ol' DeS that you remember. With a great overhaul to inventory management since now you can send items to storage if you don't have the space, which was one of the major gripes with the original. Another plus is that you now have 8 way run while locked. Besides that the only small changes I noticed: 1. the fast roll seems slower and with less i-frames 2. certain weapon animations are a tiny bit different (barely noticeable). People complaint that the game is boring and lacking compared to newer From soft titles, but that's now fault of the remake, it's just that the mechanics of DeS are more dated since it was the prototype for the souls games; then again it's a delicate balance between remaining faithful to the original or having innovation, bluepoint chose being faithful which is pretty respectable.
GRAPHICS: Absolutely beautiful, your jaw drops at the details and definition, plus the fps. It takes the experience to a new level. There's been controversy over some redesigns, and while some of the changes are debatable (fat ministers), it really doesn't stick out like a sore thumb or anything, hell, once you're playing you really don't notice at all. I was for instance, thinking I prefered the original Dragon god that looked more like a dinosaur instead of an alienoid creature, but once I got to him not only did the experience remain true, but I actually came to appreciate the new desing on it's own terms. And there are many original desingns that had to be recreated where they nailed it, plus facial expresions (patches is **** glorious, every bit as punchable as I imagined him in real life), Selen Vinland is much better in my opinion, depraved ones are also great. As for people saying that the "tone is lost" "it doesn't have the same feeling", I don't really know what game they played...... the tone remains, it's all dark fantasy, with gritty, decadent landscapes, but with much, muuuuch more detail and definition.
MUSIC: Another point that extreme purists like to make a big fuss about. The music is fine guys, the complaints come from plain nostalgia. Original music is minimalistic because of budget, proof is that Miyazaki himself in subsequent works like DS, BB and Sekiro, has used full Orchestras to do pieces with high production value. If DeS had had more budget, it would've gotten music similar to this. My favourite piece is the Maiden AStrea tune, and I'm glad to say I enjoyed the arrangement they made.
SURPRISES¡?¡?¡?: Barely any, like I said, if you expect to be blown away by a title that seems like a whole new game a-la Resi 2 remake, with tons of new content, the sixth archstone, more endings, all the improvents from newer from soft titles, then you're gonna be dissapointed. this is just an overhauled version of the original, it has a couple of new items here and there, and a new set of armor hidden behing a very complex gathering quest, plus a "reverse world" that flips the map around, that's it, no more, no less.

Bottomline is....... as a long term fan who regards original Demons as a 10, this is an 8 for me, I can see other fans giving maybe a 7. If you're not a fan of the original or the series, I can see picky gamers going down all the way to 6 o 5, taking into account the price tag. But 3s and 0s? come on guys.... "I can play the same game on my ps3, why pay full price for an old game?", yeah right, Imma go to my attic, dust off my 15 yr old console, hope it still works buy an 11year old game and let my brand new PS5 stay idle, great plan..... if that's your thing go at it, if like me you want to relive the experience through fresh eyes, buy this one, for me it's worth it.
Edit: after finishing the game and spending many hours in it pvp included, i can say that its mor than i saw firat hand, this is a 9. New armor sets, new spells, mirror mode, chance to de agro npcs that you angered, ñess lag with pvp not centered around backstabs, its a very good job

However, a few elements of later Souls games aren't fully there yet.
    - different areas are accesed through a level select in the hub world rather than being intertwined in one big world.
    - The estus flask is missing in favor of more traditional healing items which might force struggling players to grind for healing whereas skilled players can carry absurd amounts of healing
-There is also a quite devilish gameplay system called world tendency and character tendency which is poorly explained and makes the game even harder if you die in human form
    - levels are actually on the harder side due to a lack of bonfires

Conclusion: a lot of stuff from Demon's Souls might not be completely new to someone who played Dark Souls. That doesn't take away from the quality of the game though. Especially now that it is playable at 60fps with next gen visuals. Will a new player enjoy the game? I think it is as good an entry point as pretty much any Souls game. All of them have the same entry to barrier in that they can be quite obscure and the risk-reward aspect of the game not immediatly clicking if initially all you do is die repeatedly without being able to celebrate any successess inbetween.

    - Showcases the power of the PS5
    - Rolling feels better
    - Soundtrack is still awesome

    Cons:
    - Looks worse (style) than the PS3 version
    - Didn't fix the boss exploits (stealth + poison still kills almost any boss)

Technically and artistically this game is awesome, but the core design choices, like the absolutely unforgiving nature of it, the lack of proper saves, the necessity to retrace an enormous amount of a level every time you die, the “adaptive” difficulty level where if you die the game becomes harder (you got that right) by giving you only half your health until you defeat an enormously difficult boss, that is, if you even manage to get to it through all the other NPCs, now that you health is halved. And if you keep losing, you’ll find yourself running out of items and having weapons in need of repair, which is only fixable by farming the easier to kill NPCs, until you collect enough souls. You can even die in a safe heaven in this game and lose all your souls… If you still want to get this game, don’t buy a digital download, get a disk version, at least you can resell it later. Expand

A perfect example of how game remake should look like. Nice picture, so familiar, but refreshed gameplay, some of new ps5 features. Of course, some mechanics feels outdated, nevertheless - amazing game for souls fans.

If you like the Soulsbourne series, this is a must play game. The graphics are fantastic and it has the great control schemes we’ve become used to. I didn’t play the original Demon’s Souls, but I have played almost all of the Dark Souls games as as Bloodbourne and I think it is as good as any of them. Lots of replayability.

It is exactly like the original Demon's Souls, just with a lot more polish and better graphics. Some good quality of life improvements as well. As a major Souls fan, I enjoyed this remake and ran into no issues with it. Negative reviews, it seems, are from people who didn't play the original, as it's essentially the exact same thing just prettier.

Bad collision query, flying boses that disappeared mid boss fight, bosses that only use range attacks even if you are close, so that the boss is way to easy for a boss that shows up during endgame and so on. It's just a remake, so why are there still bugs that were known in the first place? If you really want to olay Demon's Souls, buy the old one

The games quite short and so expensive for what it is. I finished it in about 30 hrs or less and did most things. Didn't want to do more. Also it's much easier than the original and not as hard as any other souls game imo.

The online functions are janky and sometimes work well and sometimes not. There is atleast one mp gimmick which was revolutionary on ps3 and is still impressive on ps5.

The core gameplay is solid though the story is lacking as is the lore compared to dark souls. My greatest complaint is the ending which just kind of happens without warning and you're forced into a new game plus resetting all your progress. There is no way to roll back saves or even chose to not progress..it just happens. This decade old flawed design is a left over from the rushes original. The remaster fails to improve on any thing except cosmetics. Sadly this lack of design evolution or QOL improvements prevent it being an old master made into a modern masterpiece. The latter issues will also cause many modern players from to fail to enjoy what demon souls has to offer. A wait for sale game for most but a must have purchase for any serious gamer or souls fan.

This game is ground hog day with a different name. Totally insane. The developer designer who came up with this must have serious OCD!!!! And loves to do the same senseless boring loop over and over and over again. I gave one star only because character creation was cool. I made a male smurf that walked talked like a girl. Honestly this game would of been 5 stars. Put autosave where you die you don’t need to go kill 40 NPC’s to reclaim your souls to get killed again. It’s just boring totally wasted my time. Whenever I face a challenge in a game, I like to return to safer areas and grind for mats to upgrade my character and make the next fight easier. So I was completely taken aback that I couldn't upgrade my character during that opening act. Instead of running away to farm, I had to face my fears head on and LEARN the game. Although I still referred to YouTube guides (cheers FightinCowboy), the best moments were the ones where I didn't know what monsters are lurking around the corner.

After that first level, the rest of the game was just as challenging, even though there were avenues to farm souls and upgrade stats and weapons.

After appreciating the rewarding thrill of conquering tough bosses, I started playing other games at higher difficulty. Not only was this a gorgeous game with methodical gameplay, but also a rewarding experience that transformed the way I play.

Enemies movesets are incredibly simplistic and you usually die because of some messy game mechanic that messes you up "on purpose". Sonido: 7

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Demon’s Souls (2020) is an action role playing game, developed by Bluepoint Games, and remake of a 2009 game by the same name. The game was released on November 12, 2020 as a launch title for the ps5.

While most people who play video games have at least heard of the Dark Souls games, far fever know about its spiritual predecessor – Demon’s Souls. Demon’s Souls will feel familiar to anyone who has played any of the newer FromSoftware games.

The combat is very similar to the original Dark Souls, being slower and more focused on defence than in Dark Souls 3 or Bloodborne.

But Demon’s Souls also has some unique mechanics, for example, world and character tendency which make the game easier with worse rewards or harder with better rewards, depending on your actions. Unfortunately it is really easy to manipulate tendency in a way that restricts the player from experiencing unique events and questlines only present on the absolute ends of the spectrum.

Another aspect of the game that differs from the other games is the level design. In other FromSoftware games you play in multiple large levels, with multiple checkpoints in them, that sometimes have shortcuts to other levels in the game but the levels are scaled differently and the player is still directed down a path of gradually increasing difficulty (higher level enemies). In Demon’s Souls however there is no open world but instead there are 5 archstones which each have 3 to 4 levels in them. After finishing the tutorial level (1-1) players can choose which archstone to play next. Each level also is not connected to any other levels except the previous and next in the same archstone and the nexus (hub area) and has only one checkpoint. I like this approach because it means that the developers can make smaller levels with different themes and secrets that make the levels stand out. It also gives the player a lot of freedom when it comes to what level they want to do next. Unfortunately, quite a few of these levels are linear hallways or open areas of nothing which means that the player will not look for secrets but just rush to the boss. Another problem with this level design is that the difficulty curve is very poorly designed because all 5 archstones are designed so they can be done in any order (with some exceptions), which means that after beating about half the bosses the game becomes too easy.

The healing system is also different in this game because healing items do not refill on death, they are all consumables (except spells). This also messes with the difficulty because at the start of the game you may have to grind to buy more healing items meanwhile at the end of the game you will have enough to tank hits and kill bosses without dying.

The remake does not change any of the main gameplay systems, but it does add some quality of life changes, for example, being able to send items to storage straight from your inventory and being able to teleport between any level in the game without going to the nexus. But the most noticeable differences in this remake are the visuals. The game not only looks gorgeous with its effects and environments, it also runs in 60 fps which makes the gameplay feel smoother and more enjoyable. The game also showcases the new dualsense controller very well, using the haptic feedback and adaptive triggers to increase immersion.

As someone who has played every single FromSoftware game since the original Demon’s Souls I can easily recommend this game to fans of soulslikes or people who want to experience what the ps5 can do. The game has mechanics that make it feels somewhat unique and it is one of my favourite games in the series. That said I cannot recommend it to everyone because some people might find the game too frustrating or might not want to pay 70 dollars for a game that only takes around 16 hours to beat. Players who have already played the original would have to decide for themselves because even though I think this is the best way to experience the game, I do not think it would be worth 70 dollars.

This is an amazing remake and the only thing preventing it from being a 10 is the true to form mechanics of the original. Playing through the game was a blast but it's clear the souls series has evolved for a reason.

I understand this is a remake but the simple fact is the souls genre has grown dramatically over the decade since this game released and it would have been nice to see some of that implemnted in this $70 "modern" remake. Bosses are painfully easy, Limited movesets, brain dead ai, easily cheesed. I don't think there is a single boss that comes even close to being as interesting of a fight as even the starting fights of dark souls 3 or bloodbourne. The healing system is beyound broken, they've made minor changes but it's really just a band aid on a system that (again) later souls systems improved on (even blodbournes blood vials system is better). I understand that this is a very faithful reamke but for the asking price there's simply not enough improved. Would have loved to see an option to either play the game as it orignally was for the diehard fans or a version of the campaign with bluepoints own touches to make it feel truly modern and unique (and again for $70 I don't think that's asking too much). They instead tried to split the diffrence and it doesn't really work imo. Thankfully the original game is still fun despite it's glaring problems and the game is certainly pretty. Expand

Although they have kept the old mechanics likes of being able to completely abuse backstabs. it an incredible remaster that looks like a completely new game to the extent it has completely brought the work to life. So much so that if it has had this level of affect, you'd wonder if there was a point in not having Bluepoint's graphics

Demon's Souls is a very good remake of the iconic playtation classic, yet it's just like Dark Souls Remastered with better graphics and visuals.
It inherits all the problems of the original and tries to cover it with beautiful visuals, that's probably this remake's biggest mistake.

This is not just a texture pack as many here claim. Bluepoint has (re)developed this game from the ground up. They stayed true to the original, so lore, gameplay, level design, etc. are just as awesome as the original, but this time with some quality of life improvements, outstanding graphics, buttery smooth animations, constant 60fps, etc. I definitely recommend it for any SoulsBorne fanThis is not just a texture pack as many here claim. As a pretty big souls fan, I was very excited to see a new souls game coming out for the ps5, although a little skeptical since it was made by Bluepoint and not fromsoftware. I have never played the original demon souls for the ps3 so I went into this game completely blind and excited, and I was not let down, though its not a 10/10 because of a couple issues.

    Story- Like all the other
As a pretty big souls fan, I was very excited to see a new souls game coming out for the ps5, although a little skeptical since it was made by Bluepoint and not fromsoftware. I have never played the original demon souls for the ps3 so I went into this game completely blind and excited, and I was not let down, though its not a 10/10 because of a couple issues.

Story- Like all the other souls games, Demon Souls tells a great story through its world, npc dialogue, and item descriptions. There are many interesting characters with their own quest lines that are fun to complete as well as some great bosses that of course have their own story to tell.

Gameplay- I really like the weighty feel of all the weapons in this game, even the spells which I never used in ds3, it makes all the weapons seem powerful in their own way. I would have to say the biggest problem with the game was the bonfires, they are very spaced out, making every time you die more of a chore to get back to where you were, it can be very bad when there are more maze like areas which can make back tracking a real hassle. Other than that, exploring the super atmospheric areas that are crawling with enemies and dangerous hazards, while still being beautiful, is some of the most fun I had with this game, and the best part is at the end of an area, they throw a challenging boss at you.
Bosses: Some bosses are great, challenging yet fair, fun to learn, and cool/ intriguing designs, but there are a couple bosses that do feel a bit lack luster, either because they were way too easy or redundant, like the dragon god which was less of a fight and more of a puzzle.

Weapons: Its almost a good and bad thing that you can tell that this is the game that started the souls franchise, because there are not many weapons in this game, mainly in comparison with all the others. This might just be a me thing, but I wished there was a wider selection, especially when you are choosing a strength build, you just do not get a lot of choices. Other than that, a lot of the weapons are very cool, and like I said before, they have a nice feel to them and some weapons were a real challenge to get yet rewarding.

The light and dark mechanic: Since iv never played the original I was kind of confused about this mechanic in the game, I dont feel like going into depth on what it is, but to sum it up, each area can have either a "light tendency" or a "dark tendency", you get a certain amount of light tendency by killing enemies and bosses, and dark by skipping enemies, killing npcs, and dying too much. I did not like this mechanic very much and I felt like it could have just not been in the game, mainly because there are some items or quests that require a certain tendency, so sometimes you will have to start a new playthrough just to acquire and item you missed because you weren't killing enough enemies and were dying too much, as well as the fact that this mechanic has no bearing on the outcome ending, as far as I can tell.

Graphics: Not much to say, graphics are amazing and it runs great, definitely looks like a triple A game for a next gen console

I would recommend demon souls to both new and seasoned souls players. There are a couple issues with this game, but compared to what the game gets right, those issues can be overshadowed. Along with the new ratchet and clank, the Demon Souls Remake by Bluepoint is a great way to start of the ps5.

BluePoint Games are not just the masters of remasters and remakes, they are a GOATy tiered studio that's full of talent and they did an incredible job with Demon's Souls Remake for PS5. It's the best-looking game, period.

With all the customization available to players, you'd think there'd be an option to use the original soundtrack. Above anything else (including the enemy redesigns), that is my biggest gripe. The new compositions lack the charm of the original tracks. The Prison of Hope's new atmospheric soundscape isn't as haunting as it once was either, but I dig the soundscapes of the other areas. The new compositions lack the charm of the original tracks. The Prison of Hope's new atmospheric soundscape isn't as haunting as it once was either, but I dig the soundscapes of the other areas. The enemy redesigns are hit and miss. Some of them aren't very noticeable (like the dragons, dreglings, blue/red eye knights, the Penetrator, etc), but others are downright outrageous (the iconic Fat Officials, in particular).

But, beneath all the fresh paint, it's still Demon's Souls. And Demon's Souls is great. Is it $70 great? Not really. It's a game that's over a decade old and there aren't many additional bells and whistles added to the remake's gameplay, other than a few quality-of-life improvements. In some respects, it's faithful to a fault but somehow different enough to throw you off your muscle memory from the original.

Despite all these conflicting feelings, I still think the Demon's Souls remake is great. I also think the original should be re-released so that this doesn't erase it.

The launch title that singlehandedly took a dookie on Xbox Series X! I know Phil was in shambles when this one got announced. An incredible from the ground up remake of the game that started it all. Incredible presentation and audio with tight controls and fantastic gameplay. This is a must play for all PS5 owners! Great work Jim Ryan.

It’s a perfect remake and I think the only people who might be disappointed with it are… the die-hard FromSoftware fans. You see, the new Demon’s Souls shows clearly how much Miyazaki’s games have evolved throughout the years. The Dark Souls series simply does everything better. The remake looks like a prototype in comparison, while still being way ahead of other developers’ achievements in this genre. [01/2021, p.46]

Overall, Demon’s Souls is still the most interesting and varied game in the Souls series. This remake not only looks lovely on the PlayStation 5 but is also a joy to play with all the tweaks and improvements that have been introduced. Now if only people would look past its supposed difficulty and see its carefully crafted intricacy instead.

I went in expecting the world out of the Demon’s Souls remake and it delivered me the galaxy. I don’t normally speak this highly of games, but this is the one exception. Absolutely every facet of the original has been enhanced and it has stood the test of time. Bluepoint has done an incredible job at not only reinvigorating an underappreciated gem, but also leveraging the new technologies afforded to them with Sony’s new system. While there are a couple of minor technical blemishes, they don’t take away from how good of an experience this game is and Bluepoint’s diligence as a developer will surely see these kinks ironed out. This game is a system seller.
