    Lazy skin over Dishonored 2, but managing to be a bad game where Dishonored was great. Easy, boring, and outdated.

    It didn't keep my interested for long, I played for about 4 hrs and went back to an old game. I generally don't like time travel in games or movies. Playing the same maps feels like its set up for multilayer only. I think the user score 5-6 is about right.

    This game has literally nothing more to offer than Dishonored games.
    It has quite bit less in fact. Less powers, less locations, less interesting "story" and characters.
    It also somehow has much worse AI than both Dishonored games, which is baffling.
    I'm a big fan of Dishonored and wanted to like this game but it's painfully average, and definitely not worth your time.

    Played around 5-6 hours, killed few Visionaries, and I can tell: It's the worst Arkane game up to date.
    After great Prey (2017) and awesome Dishonored dilogy Deathloop feels repetative, irritating due to loop concept, annoying due to using same locations every time and boring due to broken shooting mechanic. I don't know what they did to shooting but it feels worse than in Dishonored 2.    Played around 5-6 hours, killed few Visionaries, and I can tell: It's the worst Arkane game up to date.

I don't know what they did to shooting but it feels worse than in Dishonored 2. Aggressive play style is not acceptable: It's not fun at all, especially when your weapon jams and you're surrounded. The cost of mistake is high: you can die 2 times and next you'll get - a reset of your loot and progress. It irritates the most, as well as due to the plot-driven loot reset. The design and music are great, the story idea too, but...
    You'll get fast annoyed on third loop reset by same game locations. There is no story progress feeling: like a hamster, you run around and around in same parts of island, gathering loot and chasing targets like a dog.    … Expand

    I would love to give a good rating. There is a lot to love in this original game (story, design, loop gameplay). But i just cant advise people to buy this game if nothing is done . I could live with such a narrow FOV. But the aiming is just so bad and unresponsive. It is ok if you go stealthy all the game and do no PvP or enjoy the game in a super casual way (just like all the mainstreamI would love to give a good rating. There is a lot to love in this original game (story, design, loop gameplay). But i just cant advise people to buy this game if nothing is done . I could live with such a narrow FOV. But the aiming is just so bad and unresponsive. It is ok if you go stealthy all the game and do no PvP or enjoy the game in a super casual way (just like all the mainstream media reviewing the game on ps5 obviously...)     I had high hopes for this game due to loving Dishonored but sadly I find this game more frustrating than fun. It's more of a rinse and repeat with annoying graphics. Sadly this game is not for me but don't be put off by 0 reviews. There are some people giving this game high reviews so remember everyone's opinion is different.

    Regret doing that now. It's just such an average game. Have played it for about six hours, and don't have the will to carry on. There's nothing new or exciting here at all.     Alright let's start with the story. While neither Dishonored nor Prey were masterpieces in this regard Deathloop is just terrible. Extremely thin characters, boring paint by numbers plot and a shallow world. This is not helped by how zany and quirky everything is, the game tries painfully hard to be a comedy while being maybe the least funny thing I've ever played.

    Visuals:
    The game looks ok I guess. It's not great but not terrible, overall I'd say it's pretty close to Dishonored 2 with slightly better textures but with a significantly less consistent and refined art style.

    Alright now my main issue, the gameplay. The gunplay is ok however becomes extremely repetitive very quickly and it feels rather clunky, the same is true for moving around the environment which is weird given how smooth and dynamic every last action in the Dishonored series felt.
    The powers are pretty much just worse and more limited version of what we got in Dishonored. The Loop gimmick is fun and novel exactly once after which it becomes nothing but an annoyance and a chore.
    The game is also extremely easy, to a point where you don't really have a reason for even doing anything except sneaking past enemies or just killing them.
    It also quickly starts to feel more like a mildly tiresome chore where you have to deal with minor annoyances while you run from point A to point B where you have to do massive amounts of backtracking through these small, uninteresting and empty feeling areas.

    Is it the worst game I've ever played? Definitely not, but at its best it never rises above mediocrity while being outright terrible in other parts.    … Expand

The main protagonist you're playing seems to be likable, until you reach the end when it turns out he's just as shallow as the others. In fact, you almost feel apathetic after finishing the game in how bereft it is from any kind of emotion.

    The general gameplay, outside of the shootouts, mostly consist of fetch quests similar to the ones found in recent Ubisoft titles.

    It's a shame to see so many gaming journalists becoming pawns who will never be taken seriously again by gamers.    … Expand

    This game has been over hyped by critics and websites, it's what helped me reach the decision to purchase it, and I regret it now. I finished it today on the PS5, it was okay, that's all, just okay. Not worth the 60 pounds in all honesty.

The ending is horribly short and anticlimactic, the illusion of freedom is breaking the game, there is only 1 (!) simple dumb enemy type in the game, the invasion mechanic gets annoying after the 10th time. IMPORTANT: there unfortunately is only 1 route/way to play/finish this game (unlike Dishnonnored), which is misguiding when lookingIt is a very stylish but also very frustrating game. Too much profanity for me, especially when the kills seemed tame by comparison. The menus were janky and not conducive to any sense. It’s not bad but not anything you can’t save sixty bucks by skipping. Pros: fun gunplay. Cons: lacking attempt at exploitation film inspiration and bad dialogue, uninteresting story, and inability to make characters seem authentic.     It's like going back in time and playing a PS3 game, only with better resolution. Everything else feels like it was made 15 years ago. Nothing worse than an FPS that doesn't allow you to interact with anything at all in the world, even shooting objects or knifing walls renders dissapointing results that I'd have expected in the Playstation 3 era.

First things first the Gun play is terrible, Clunky controls, slow camera even on 100 and stiff movements. Not a single review mentions how terrible the game feels to play..if you're an advid FPS player then you will notice how horrible this game feels off the bat.     What a disappointment. I loved the Dishonored series and Prey was possibly my favorite game of the last decade, and Deathloop just absolutely pales in comparison. It feels like they realized an unfinished concept. The games technical aspects are polished, but the content is very much lacking.

    Deathloop is a unique game like nothing I have every played before. It’s time loop mechanics worked well and the story moved along at a good speed, but it’s with Deathloops AI where the game starts to fall apart. The AI is so bad it breaks the immersion in an almost excellent First Person Shooter. Another problem Deathloop has is it’s Ray-Tracing Mode which says it’s locked at 30FPS but atDeathloop is a unique game like nothing I have every played before. It’s time loop mechanics worked well and the story moved along at a good speed, but it’s with Deathloops AI where the game starts to fall apart.     Good idea, but gameplay is off, from gun combat, and especially jumping. It's just not fun to play with constant reading to know what to do next. The level design is OK, the story is OK, but everything feels pointless. Am 12 hours in, and don't think I can this game anymore of my time

    I think there was a foundation for something really amazing here but it just missed. The 2 main characters were greatly acted and portrayed and the story was there but we had very little connection to the other “bosses”. Other then hearing there names all time, no interaction at all. Terrible ending as well. Glad is was over . Would like to see a revamped sequel though.

The combat is not precise and shooting is very bad, AI of the enemies is laughable you can run rings around them so stealth is pointless.     This game looks and runs great on PS5 and is technically impressive. That being said, I do not enjoy the game at all. I have no clue what I am doing or what I should be doing. Every time I enter a new section of the game I am greeted with a dozen prompts explaining how the game works to me. It's that feeling of unboxing a new board game and trying to decipher how the hell you play and whatThis game looks and runs great on PS5 and is technically impressive. That being said, I do not enjoy the game at all. I have no clue what I am doing or what I should be doing.     It is exactly what it is. A time loop in the same 4 maps over and over again.
    After the first hours of gameplay, you will grow very tired of the mechanics of this game.
    You´ll grow so tired of it to the point of making you sick.
    I never returned to Deathloop again. And i never will.
    Go with Hades or Returnal instead. Much better.

    Could the developers have even got any further up their own backsides with this game?

    Frustrating as there’s an amazing and playable game in there somewhere. Bad. Really bad. Just not fun.

    The only positive thing about this game is the gameplay. But beyond that, everything is just very meh or really bad. The only time when some kind of story emerges is towards the end and it's very tame of an end in terms of the themes the game is trying to explore.     I am not the type of guy who doesn't finish games but this one I just couldn't. After progressing long enough I had no energy to continue on. The combat is unbalanced AI is dumb and there is no risk factor other than the raid the antagonist does.

    A Repetitive Loop of Disappointment.

    I can see what Arkane was trying to do with Deathloop I really can, but it just falls so flat for me and I’m so disappointed as I had high hopes for the game. My problems with the game are mainly the gameplay itself as I really don’t like anything about it. The gunplay is just terrible and guns themselves aren’t vary satisfying to use.     I can see what Arkane was trying to do with Deathloop I really can, but it just falls so flat for me and I’m so disappointed as I had high hopes for the game. The powers I just didn’t find vary fun to use, and they all seemed like lesser versions of dishonored’s powers. The stealth is fine pretty standard stealth system nothing really bad to say here. The A.I are so incredibly inconsistent that you could kill someone 3 inches from them and they won’t notice, but if your 3 floors above an enemy and bump into a bottle they’ll sound the alarms! The game also has a lot of bugs to work out from FPS drops to Clipping through objects.

    It’s not all bad though, the atmosphere is immersive, the levels "the few there are" are well designed, the voice acting is stellar, and the story is great! Overall I didn’t enjoy the game much at all, I relished the moments that I got to hear Colt and Julliana talk to each other because it was the best part of the game for me. The mechanic sort of feels like Majora’s Mask, where the world has NPCs that have a routine, but since time does not actually progress and you have to select the times, the four times end up feeling like four separate levels. Majora’s Mask created a better environment that felt more alive than this game, and that was 20 years ago. Then next comes the gameplay, which feels extremely clunky and awkward. Everything from the way your character moves to the way the guns handle just feels really awkward even after you get a hang of it. It makes the combat feel very unsatisfying, and it makes the stealth feel like it was designed for a PS2 era game. The AI is also atrocious, I don’t think I’ve seen AI this bad before. The entire concept of the game is pretty cool, but the execution was terrible. The plot isn’t very good, it’s just super convoluted, any time it starts to hook you a little bit it just loses you for another hour, and the world isn’t that interesting. The graphics are shockingly dated, they almost feel like an early PS4 game or high resolution PS3 game. Everything down to the controls are just confusing and not intuitive at all. Remember how bad the marketing was for this game, because no matter how many trailers they put out, you still didn’t understand it? That’s what the game feels like, except it’s not even saved by the gameplay. The voice acting is probably the only good thing about the game. It’s not unplayable by any means, but I just don’t have the time to sit there and force myself to pretend I’m having anything other than a terrible time. The fact that this game got a critic score of 86 and was nominated for GOTY, yet the user review score sits at 6.3 makes me really distrust critic reviews even more.     Everything is so unnatural. In fact, it's that bad that I can't really play the game for more than half an hour without getting motion sick. After days of playing, I slightly adapted. But the controls still feel like sh*t. This is absolutely not acceptable. How did reviewers give this game anything above a 8? It could be as fun as possible but these controls ruin everything.

    After you've gone through the first minutes and accepted the controls are terrible, you encounter something that's EVEN WORSE: The AI.

    I don't get how you could make the AI that stupid, unaware and predictable. You can walk straight past the AI, they won't notice you. Shoot people, they won't notice you. Shoot explosives into the ground next to them, they won't notice. It's that bad. Yet the AI is like everything the game has to offer? It's like start cycle, go there, slaughter AI, do X, go there, slaughter AI, do X, and so on, ..., repeat cycle, and slaughter them again. Yet killing them is the most boring, unrewarding and most unengaging gameplay you could ever imagine. The AI is so bad, you can just run through every area and just kill them as if it's cod, without any consequences. And that's not even bad, that's the only thing that's actually fun doing in the game.

    Now to the good things, respect where it's due you know:

    The characters and voice acting are amazing! They're absolutely spot on and the only thing that make this game enjoyable. Also the games design & music is actually amazing, even though the 3D audio and Graphics are very lackluster. Also gotta give credit to making use of the Dualsense. It's far from being as great as in Astros playroom or returnal, but at least makes the game a little bit more enjoyable.

    But as these are the only good things I suggest you watch a playthrough from your favorite YouTuber or streamer. You'll only miss out on the Dualsense but that's absolutely not worth spending money on. Get any other game instead.    … Expand

    I think the concept is cool but it's gets pretty old pretty fast and I feel in a genre as oversaturated as the FPS genre you have to do something unique in your gameplay and this just comes off as generic. I do like the main character and the way his story is presented.

    The AI in this game is terrible and reminds me of the bots that used to be in Counter Strike before they redid the game in the source engine. Aiming is sloppy and imprecise. The guns have no visceral impact. Really wish I could return games via the PS-Store like you can on steam.

    Buyer Beware! The random freezes and crashes this game experiences are very frustrating as you are not able to save mid missions. You will loose alot of progress. While the game has potential I highly recommend waiting a while before purchasing as the freezing will ruin the experience. I returned for a refund

    If you want ray tracing and 60fps, I would suggest you try the PC version, except that the user score over there is even worse, because of crashing, stuttering, and stability issues, along with weird input lag. As expected the PS5 version does not freeze or crash very often. I have loved Bethesda games, especially Fallout 3, 4 and Skyrim. But this one is not on that level. The PVP is a lag fest. Recommend you wait and have people join you rather than join them. Lots of rage quitters when you put them down twice.

    People will say disgruntled Playstation fans review bombed the game as this game is produced by a Microsoft owned company, but if that was the only reason for bad reviews, why is the PC user score worse?    … Expand

    If you're going to make a game where progress and loot is lost when you die and provide no save system, then you better make damn sure the gameplay is engaging, the story grips and the characters are likeable. NONE of this is the case here.

So glad I didn't pay full price for this game because I knew it would be trash coming from Bethesda.

    On top of this all you have are a bunch of reused assets that get boring to look at after a day or two don't see myself buying another thing from them at this rate as they still cannot make a game without basic features that works correctly.    … Expand

    An obvious glorified reskin, IGN's 10 is enough to set off alarm-bells.....what looks like a 10 about this game? Maybe an 8.5 at the top range...more likely a 7-8.
    Boring, too easy and with a very last gen aesthetic and many technical issues.
    Massively disappointing.

    Literally one of the most over hyped game of the new generation. I just stopped playing due to boredom and the lack of meaningful engagement. The graphic are mediocre, the sound is mediocre, there's no story and it feels like it's missing something.

    I did not like Deathloop due to the following: 1. Dated Graphics, this game could have been made on PS3. The Dishonored series looks    Literally one of the most over hyped game of the new generation. I just stopped playing due to boredom and the lack of meaningful engagement. The graphic are mediocre, the sound is mediocre, there's no story and it feels like it's missing something.

    I did not like Deathloop due to the following:

    1. Dated Graphics, this game could have been made on PS3. The Dishonored series looks better than Deathloop.
    2. Gameplay feels flat
    3. There's nothing next generation about this game. The dishonored series has better sound effects, level design, and everything else.
    4. if you played and loved Dishonored you will hate this game.
    5. AI is beyond bad.
    6. Sound effects are terrible

Not to mention the innumerable performance issues (don’t know about PS5 version, but in PC is a bit of a mess), the gameplay and the story aren’t nothing new. It obviously borrows a lot from Bioshock, but it's controls, looks, and menus feel like it's from 2007. It's stealth mechanics are too janky to be a stealth game, it's shooting feels like you're in mud so it's a bad shooter. The menus are the worst I've ever seen in a game, I have no idea what'sI feel like I'm not even playing the same game as those who gave it rave reviews. This is bad.     i finished the game it was so easy. Once you unlock some things like invisibility or multi-kill it's very boring. It's really doesn't worth the money. I don't understand why IGN gave it a 10/10 Masterpiece. This game is crap!

    This game gets boring very fast. Same repetitive gameplay. The story is uninteresting. I found myself rushing to finish the level just to see if the game would get better. I would try to play stealthily but the stealth mechanics are bad. I thought it was supposed to be like dishonored. Dishonored was awesome. Like hell is this a 10 out of 10 game.

    Just like all Arkhanes games it's starts out with interesting ideas and ends as a mess of broken systems and undercooked ideas. Unlike their other games Deathloop is borrowing and cringe from the get go, not even the first 10 hours are fun or interesting.

    This should have been 40 bucks. It feels like DLC for dishonered but with framerate drops and textures glitching. The levels look like they're from Dishonered but with some 60s stuff thrown in. I really don't get why this received such high reviews.

    Almost as bad as Returnal. Boring loop game with no difficulty setting. 2021 is the year of Devs crapping on players time and expecting us to pay them for it. No thanks. Save your money!

    This game is horrible and overhyped. Menu system is horrible and outdated, the game is a repetitive mess, the characters are not likeable (annoying sounding protagonist and antagonist), and the game has tons of freezing and crashes. Avoid this trash!

    The repetitiveness is an absolute grind especially if you die late in the day losing up to an hour of game play. The bland graphics, wierd 60's style and rubbish enemies are all very mediocre especially for an 80 euro new gen game. There is a lack of atmosphere compared to Dishonoured and Prey two of my favorite games. It's very hard to hit a good flow in combat using guns and abilitiesThe repetitiveness is an absolute grind especially if you die late in the day losing up to an hour of game play.     Deathloop offers well-designed stealth levels under the core gameplay of Roguelike. At the same time, the variety of weapons and special powers also support the exciting combat. Julianna's "invasion" adds the uncertainty of the game, but may also spoil the player's experience.

    I’m honestly surprised, because I did not expect to have so much fun with Deathloop. It draws some gameplay ideas from Dishonored, but introduces time-related mechanics, offers an intriguing story with interesting characters and has its own unique and coherent style. It’s an original game, full of surprises and addictive, but not necessarily easily digestible for everyone. For me however it’s one of the best titles of 2021. [11/2021, p.22]

Excellent presentation and style, along with fantastic dialogue and character performances makes Deathloop one of the most innovative games in years and a valuable PS5 exclusive.
