    Probably the most unique game I have ever played, Interesting mechanics and extremely deep storyline. Definitely not an in your face shooter or action game if thats what your looking for but graphics are amazing, game-play is strangely tedious, soothing and enjoyable all at the same time. A killer soundtrack to really set the feels too. After releasing on PC the game has gained some more recognition and respect among the gaming community. Now that the Director's Cut has arrived on PS5, console gamers can experience the game again with technicalDeath Stranding launched on PS4 in late 2019 and polarized people due to some curious design decisions from Hideo Kojima. It's rather ironic for a game about uniting the world. After releasing on PC the game has gained some more recognition and respect among the gaming community. Now that the Director's Cut has arrived on PS5, console gamers can experience the game again with technical upgrades and a few more gameplay additions.

    Death Stranding is a different kind of experience, modeled after games such as The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild rather than GTA or Assassin's Creed. It's more about traversing the environment than meeting a quest-giver every 5 meters or so and go all guns blazing. It also focuses on establishing connections with NPCs and human players alike. You receive emails from NPCs which trigger an emotion of worry, and you get social media-style "likes" from other real players roaming the game's world and using the structures you left behind. It's an asymmetrical online system inspired by the Souls/Bloodborne games.

    The game's story is a mix of sci-fi, philisophy and human tragedy. The story itself is fine, full of typical Hideo Kojima twists and turns, but many people will be left scratching their heads. The game's overall atmosphere (a blend of tranquility, solitude and horror) is unique. The actors' performances are the best you can find in gaming, although it's clear they didn't have as much time to shoot their scenes as it's possible on movies. Hideo Kojima has created some fantastic characters with interesting backstories, but a few of them end up a disappointment (particularly Higgs, voiced by Troy Baker, and Fragile, voiced by Lea Seydoux). The world building though is almost flawless.

    The main gameplay loop is about delivering cargo from point A to point B. But the trick is in traversing the environment. As you walk around, you have to balance the weight of the cargo you are carrying, and also use the tools at your disposal to cross a chasm, descend a big vertical drop, etc. Basically the environment is a puzzle you have to solve in order to proceed to the next mission - or rather, delivery.

    Apart from environmental hazards there are threats coming from humans who want to rob you of your cargo, and from ghosts called BTs that can grab you and force you to fight otherworldly creatures in a shifting landscape. Unfortunately the boss fights of Death Stranding are few and far in between, and of low quality, just like Kojima's MGSV The Phantom Pain. They could have been something special, especially the Mads Mikkelsen sections, but the way they have been implemented is mediocre at best. Bosses are slow to respond, easy to avoid, just spam them with bullets and you are done with them (or you can just leave most of the boss fight areas and the fight stops). Only 2 encounters towards the end are what you'd call a true boss fight, but don't expect anything that matches Hideo Kojima's brilliant accomplishments in past MGS games.

    The Director's Cut additions include some new equipment, a racing mode, a firing range (basically the VR Missions from old MGS games), new customization options, a few new OST tracks, and a few more story missions.

    On the technical side, Death Stranding is a luxurious production. Graphics were some of the best found on PS4 and are still striking on the PS5. Now you got to choose from 4 graphical options, all of them targeting 60 fps (some of them better than others). There is a standard 16:9 mode and an ultrawide 21:9 mode with black bars and wider FOV, and each mode has Performance and Quality options. I think it's best to stick with the standard 16:9 Performance mode, don't engage the ultrawide mode unless you got a really big TV or monitor to compensate for the loss of screen area. This game has one of the most memorable OSTs in recent memory, and the 3D Audio tech enhances the acoustic experience. The Dualsense controller is also used wisely, with the adaptive triggers and the haptics increasing the immersion factor. You can import your PS4 save and continue on PS5 from where you left off, but it's a convoluted process.

    Death Stranding is a unique experience. It's surreal that this game launched merely months before the Covid pandemic hit the world, lockdowns were put in place isolating people from one another, and dependence on delivery men grew more than ever. Playing the game in a post-Covid world feels completely different than before, because we can relate to the in-game world thanks to our own experience coping with the pandemic. Give this game a try if you are tired of modern AAA games recycling same old same concepts and ripping you off with loot boxes and microtransactions. If you just want to endlessly and mindlessly shoot and punch enemies, Death Stranding isn't for you.    … Expand

    My first experience with death stranding at launch wasn’t the best. I was very on the fence from the off and ended up quitting after 10hrs. I turned a complete 180 on this game and now happily call this game a masterpiece. But calling it a masterpiece doesn’t do it justice. On my second play through I learned that this game Is a completely unique game that stands out from the rest. But I also appreciate this game isn’t for everyone. The way of the game mechanics in this title isn’t like your standard open world rpg that we are accustomed too. It’s a learning curve that starts off slow but when it kicks in becomes an experience like no other. The look and style of this game is better than most Hollywood blockbusters and any ps5 game to date. It’s graphical detail is way ahead of its time. It has an ensemble cast and they all give stellar performances. And although the story is a slow burn when you get to the closing credits you are left in awe at what you have just witnessed.     Adds a ton of neat features structures and equipment that are fun. As they are OPTIONAL to the game and you have the choice to not use them it doesn't take away from the difficulty of traversing terrain we loved from the original. I certainly used all the new stuff though as they were a blast. One of my favorite games of all time.

    This game to me is flawless on the Playstation 5. The frame rate , graphics & new content was worth the $10. I gave Death Stranding originally a 10 because to me its a perfect game and im still enjoying it 350 hours later.

    This game has become something so outstanding and unusual that even two years after its release, I still love it and admire the work of the developers. The story, the characters, the world in which everything happens. Atmosphere, music, game mechanics. This is beyond praise. Kodjima Production you passed an incredible game, thank you!

    I couldn't believe how much I enjoyed this game. It had so much love put into it and detail that I didn't expect, all while keeping it arcade-y and fun! I can fully understand why people don't care for it, but if you've never tried and are interested, at least play until the second map arrives. This is the second game I've ever platinum-ed, and I can't wait for a second.

    Don't believe all the negativity-try the game yourself and give it a fair chance.

    I didn't when I originally got the PS4 game. Honestly the game is slow to get going but once it does it is fun, unusual, beautiful, and well worth it. And I am not a Kojima fan.

    Anyone who has ever worked in freezing cold rain, will tell you, it sucks, b/c it does!

    So me having to play a character, that's basically working in some "death rain" that kills you, while also probably being freezing cold, made this WHOLE game, kind of a tough pill to swallow. Like I don't like rain in general. (obviously its VERY important) but having to play in this "dark dreary world".. that weighed on me, A LOT!

    TL:DR Great game, amazing mechanics, amazing atmosphere, awesome story (If a bit weird)
    I don't regret my initial purchase, or upgrading to the "directors cut". Give it a shot if you like a bit of mystery & reading emails?    … Expand

    This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. I've a very unpopular critique method of Death Stranding where I compare it to the souls genre. I'm aware Kojima stated this is the beginning of the new "Stranding" genre, but I highly enjoy and focus on the Souls elements. Let's start with the difficulty. Death Stranding might not be hardcore insane, but it does have a learning curve, leaves you helpless in your first BT encounters, and when you enter the mountain areas you're simply left for dead unless you learn how to handle the game fast. You may not be wielding a sword, but you'll eventually wield a few guns while facing grotesque creatures.

    Another very obvious Souls element is the messages you can leave to other players via signs. Death Stranding even takes this to a whole new level (Stranding level) where you can leave and use full structures build by other players from bridges to a simple anchored rope that might make the difference. The game is filled with warnings in some complicated areas and it gives a sense of community just like the system you find on Demon Souls and even Elden Ring.

    The Director's Cut definitely benefits from the most recent hardware, but the game was still very playable at 30fps and this is because of the reduced input lag, same wizardy provided in games such as Horizon Zero Dawn.

    Kojima definitely created something unique worthy of being further developed and I 100% support this franchise.    … Expand

With that said I did start to enjoy the story and game loop once I got a few hours into the game. Once you get access to vehicles and tools like the zip line, the game is much better. The graphics on PS5, music, and tone of the game all come together really really well, it is actually pretty amazing how beautiful the game is even though the world is basically destroyed. This game looks and sounds better than many "next-gen" games like Halo Infinite, Forza Horizon 5, and RE Village. With all those positives out of the way there are some issues. Like I said the first few hours are a bit slow and this game really isn't for everyone. It is generally a slow paced game with sporadic action mixed in. I found the section of the game in the snow covered mountains a bit draining, I wish that was shortened a little bit. Beyond those complaints, I am really enjoying the game and I wouldn't skip it.     A good game really well thought and innovative mechanics outside of combat. Story fantastic definitely need to pay attention though. I love the sharing of structures with other players. World feels a bit to sparce for me it could do with more player npc interaction. Over all an 8 for me and well worth a play.

    Among the best graphics out there. A truly incredible story and very meaningful. It isn’t the most fun game and I’d consider it more an experience but it’s well worth the play josh take many breaks. It can get addictive eventually after the slow start. My only criticism is the driving. It’s the worst driving physics I’ve ever seen in a game. Otherwise the game played perfectly

    Что касается технической стороны в сравнении с версией для PS4 здесь вы получите моментальные загрузки, быстрые переходы, 60 фпс в 4к и приятные ощущения в дуал сенсе.
    Я начинал играть еще на прошке, но после пролога забросил. Потом перешел на 5ку, обновился за 700р до этой версии и взахлеб наиграл больше 100 часов. Был момент, когда я как одержимый строил дороги и выполнял стандартные заказы.

    В игре каждый найдёт чем себя развлечь, даже после прохождения сюжета.
    По началу игра может показаться скучной и сложной, или даже страшной, но по мере прохождения динамика будет увеличиваться, а также количество всяких полезных девайсов, которые будут упрощать перемещение и доставки и помогут в борьбе с "тварями".

    Я даже до сих пор не открыл фуры и не все дороги достроил за +100 часов     … Expand

    Best game ever made. Spent over 100 hours in original chasing platinum trophy, and 78 more hours in director's cut. People who don't understand philosophy and physics behind this masterpiece should not be angry with Sony or Kojima. The should take a deep breath and admit they are not at that level yet. LEARN AND ADAPT!

    Masterpiece, Awesome and detailed gameplay not meant for everybody, not for close-minded or COD/FIFA players. Story beyond the incredible and technical side jaw dropping; probably one of the best sci-fi stories in whole history.

    -Gameplay Mechanics: mostly maintained the older mechanics (if it ain't broke, why fix it) but with added flavor of the adaptive triggers & haptic feedback of the PS5 dual sense controller. In game additions; new structures, items and methods of delivery.

    -Story: the main story remains untouched from the original release, yet there were few side story missions added that offer more cover of this weird world of Death Stranding.

    For veterans or newcomers, this is a very important game in the industry, it is different and unique and it touches on very important aspects in our lives as gamers; the sense of connection & isolation.
    Yes the game starts slow but i guarantee that anyone who passes Episode 3 in the game will continue and will enjoy this weird piece of art.    … Expand

    A breathtaking, emotionally deep game. Hosting a surprisingly addictive gameplay loop. A fun world to explore as well, especially if you are online. It's a unique experience that has a slow start but once you're in its quite captivating.

With the amount of tools, gadgets, routes, and items this game gives to you it's up to you to decide what the gameplay really is. Like MGSV, Death Stranding is only as repetitive as the player. If you want to do the bare minimum to just get from cutscene toTruly a one of a kind experience. Anyone who has played this game enough should know that the "walker simulator" meme is false.     One of the greatest games I've ever played. It can take 5-10 hours to get hooked, but once you are you'll never wanna stop. The sense of community is like no other I've experienced, especially for a single player game.

    This is a 'you either get it, or you don't' type game. Give it time, and you will be hooked I almost guarantee it.

    Even with Metacritic scores in the mid 80's, and a Steam rating of 9/10, this game is still pretty underrated. It's a shame that it went over so many people's heads because it's a slow build that continues to get better the further you get in it. I will admit, in the beginning it's pretty slow (absolutely gorgeous and incredibly atmospheric, though) but, as you keep getting further, a lotEven with Metacritic scores in the mid 80's, and a Steam rating of 9/10, this game is still pretty underrated.     In an era of copy rinse and repeat video game design I find Death Stranding to be fascinating and even addicting. Hideo Kojima is truly is a mastermind of video game design and the longer you play this game the more rewarding it becomes.

    Death Stranding Directors cut is excellent.

    But like marmite its not for everyone and far from perfect. It is an artistic masterpiece which will make you feel but that feeling might be negative or positive. But it will cause a visceral reaction which few games in the last decade can do.

    The graphics though repetitive are amazing. The sound and music are staggering and as good as you could hope. The game is huge with plenty to do over the 20-40 hrs I played. The story is interesting and controversial but often messy as is the bizarre writing. The gameplay is extremely solid and scary and thrilling and action packed. I would go from being bored to being chilled to scared to excited in one sitting! Its such an unusual game.

    The multiplayer is very neat though really only single player but in a team. Its a big part of the game not to be missed.

    I never knew I would enjoy being a postman. It turns out that can be a cool thing when you have a cool ride and cool gadgets and terrifying monsters and terrorists to defend against.

    It is never as consistently good as metal gear but it has far highers highs (and lower lows). But any fan of the last MGS will find plenty to love here. And if you like Norman Rebus then this is the game for you haha
    This is a must play game which love or hate needs to exist and any intelligent, thoughtful person should give it a go (and don't quit until it grows on you as it will given time!).    … Expand

    While this game definitely definitely isn’t for everyone, and Me being a long time metal gear solid fan-having no expectations going into this game… I was pleasantly surprised at how engaging the experience was for me. The game mechanics along with narrative urged me to contemplate just how important logistics are; I had to think about how important the people are that we count on to bring us the things we need, so we can pick them up at hubs/stores or our homes.

    Sure someone can verbalize the importance of these people to you [especially if society were to experience a major collapse] but going through this experience within the context of the engaging narrative, can transform your perspective about delivery, that no speech or history lesson could ever do. I must admit, the story was pretty good-to me, even almost shed a tear ,... I heard that Kojima wanted to be a film director, and it shows. Being the nerdy loner who gets to accept the merits of being part of something felt good and I developed a strange satisfaction riding across the map to deliver parcels and build infrastructure.     Such a fresh, unique gaming experience. It is a slow burner which requires patience and the story requires an open mind. I can understand that simpletons and kids will not enjoy this because it is too slow for them, not enough action for them, they don’t understand what the game is about. I only recommend it to open-minded people who don’t have ADHD. Masterpiece

    Definitely requires your patience through the first half of the game but it's definitely worth it. The plot is pretty good and the storytelling might be one of the best I've ever seen. Definitely worth a try, especially if you have access to game catalogue on PS.

    I Have to admit.. if you do not invest your first 10 hours, you can not understand how large, diverse, full of content and beautiful this masterpiece is. First 10h show about 15% of what can be done in this game. I am sorry for everyone that quits sooner (as I almost did)

    Giocato è un capolavoro con narrazione molto variegata e cinematica con le sue teorie. All'avanguardia ben curato e rifinito su console ps 5. Director's Cut arricchisce ulteriormente il gameplay più varietà di elementi arcade rende Death Stranding un gioco molto variegato con tutte cose come si dice a Napoli. Spero di giocarlo di nuovo su PC quando avrò un PC

    Originally played on the PS4. 10 dollar upgrade to PS5 and receive additional content. Worth it to me.

    To start off with, the graphics are insanely good and so is the story and characters. This game has a good message to tell the world too. This game suffers from story beats being too far in between which will force some players to give up and just research the ending. You are pretty much just a delivery gut in this game but there is more than just walking like people say and they let you unlock other stuff pretty quickly. Gameplay is smooth but the first 8 hrs of the game you are wondering if all the walking complaints are true but it’s just the initial game mechanics. You’ll be driving, and zip lining in no time. Just be sure to plan your route for vehicles otherwise, you’ll be walking.    … Expand

Die Story ist super gut geschrieben und das Schauspielern der Figuren ist einfach nur gelungen, vor allem bei Sam und Fragile. Über die Audio/Soundtrack und die Grafik sollte man einfach nicht diskutieren, denn die ist einfach wunderschön. DasMir hat das Spiel super gut gefallen aber ich kann auch die zum Teil negativen Bewertungen verstehen. Ein schlechtes Spiel ist das auf kein Fall. Die Story ist super gut geschrieben und das Schauspielern der Figuren ist einfach nur gelungen, vor allem bei Sam und Fragile. Game is totally masterpiece, story is excellent (lou came to my dreams), gameplay is very smooth and there is plenty of vehicles to use if you dont want walk but walking in this game is just made differently and they nailed it. Combat was pretty hard sometimes but not overhelming.Took me 2 years to play this game because i heard it is walking simulator but shouldnt listen some people. Game is totally masterpiece, story is excellent (lou came to my dreams), gameplay is very smooth and there is plenty of vehicles to use if you dont want walk but walking in this game is just made differently and they nailed it. There should be radio when travelling with vehicle because soundtracks is very good but its nice to enjoy silent enviroment no cars, animals just silence. Graphics is amazing too.

    You love this game or you hate it there arent middle rates like 7 I left it 10 hours past the start of the game because i found it voting but almost a month later I continued it and I loved it, it's a trip when you discover the Ending part really good story and amazing Characters, music moments are perfect and I loved it, it has some negative sides but it is a really gente defying game.

    Director's Cut is by far the best way to experience Kojima’s latest game. However, if you’ve already played Death Stranding and you’re considering buying the new edition just for the added content, better sleep on it. [12/2021, p.78]

    Death Stranding: Director’s Cut is a solid remaster with smart upgrades that build upon the original release without taking away from what made it a unique experience. The game itself has a lot to say and some of it is genuinely compelling, however, the pacing is abhorrent and the core gameplay is a deadly pill made out of tedium and boredom, that I really wish I hadn’t swallowed. Let’s hope I’m a Repatriate.

    Whether the 4k60 frames or the powerful features of DualSense, the experience of Death Stranding: Director's Cut has been taken to another level. With this Director's Cut, there will be some new feelings when going through the "journey of connection" again.
