This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Campaign & Story: The Story is terrible with logical fallacies everywhere such as when in the missions Close Air and Hardpoint, your objective is to capture Major Hassan Zyani who leads the fake terrorist group in the game Al-Qatala, after capturing Hassan, a cutscene plays in which General Shephard says that Zyani can't be imprisoned and that it would be an act of war and that he has broken no laws both of which are completely incorrect, first off the US is already in a war against Al-Qatala so who would the act of war be towards??? Second, Zyani broke 5 laws that are in 1 mission alone those being arson, attempted murder, being in a **** terrorist group, illegally crossing the US-Mexico border, and ordering another terrorist to fire a rocket launcher at cops. All of those are crimes so idk what they are talking about. Also, why would Shephard send us on the mission if he knew we couldn't hold Zyani??? The rest of the story is bland, dumb, unoriginal, and boring, the thing that saves the campaign is the gameplay/level design. I genuinely can't think of a mission in MW2 that wasn't fun!

Multiplayer: The multiplayer is incredibly fun! All of the guns feel great, shooting people feels great as it's always been, all of the guns feel like they matter, I think that almost every gun is viable in some way. There was a severe lack of maps and game modes at launch with there only being 13 multiplayer maps (10 multi, 3 ground war/invasion) and only 8 modes with only 3 of them being new modes. This lack of maps and modes is less than we have seen in almost any other COD game. Also, this might just be a bug on my part however I am unable to play the new control mode in anything other than private matches. All of the maps are good except for the Santa Sena Border Crossing map which is just a large lane filled with cars which makes movement clunky and if you use a grenade launcher, rpg, or grenade spam with restock, you can just throw grenades/other explosives and get tons of kills, other than that all of the maps are pretty good. The game does seem to be punishing aggressive players for some reason.

Gunsmith & Weapon Progression: Weapon progression is SOOOOO dumb, to unlock the Minibak you have to get your account to level 23 to unlock the Kastov 762 (AK47), get the Kastov 762 to level 12 which unlocks the Kastov 545, get the Kastov 545 to level 13 to unlock the Kastov-74U to level 15 which unlocks the Vaznev-9K to level 14 which unlocks the Minibak! The weapon progression is **** unlocking guns take forever along with attachments. Tuning is fun and adds a new level of customization to your gun. Only other thing I will say is that it kinda seems like attachments just make your guns worse.

Co-Op: Co-Op is laughable, less so than MW2019 but still terrible. At launch there were only 3 missions! 2 new missions were added as of 11/16/22 but only 3 missions! I honestly belived that Co-Op/spec ops were just going to be cut entirely because of how bad it was in mw2019. There was and still is no survival mode which is odd but kinda expected after seeing how little content there is in Co-Op.

Other Issues: The UI is terrible and reminds me of Hulu for some reason, it is VERY clunky trying to navigate the menus. This is just a rumor but there might be skill-based damage as players are experiencing that their bullets will deal more damage after a long streak of losses and/or deaths and vice versa. Skill-based matchmaking is terrible and seems to put you in lobbies that are in your previous matches k/d instead of lifetime/last 10 games. Example: You get a 1.3 k/d in a match, next match you get put up against a bunch of people who also got 1.3 k/ds last matches aka people who are absolute DEMONS at this game, then you get a 0.7 k/d and get put up against a bunch of other people who also got a 0.7 k/d last match aka people who are either really bad or really new. This just keeps repeating itself and leaves you in a constant loop of pain and happiness. Crashing in this game is INCREDIBLY common. I don't think I've had a single game that didn't have bugs/glitches. When I was playing the campaign, my game kept crashing during a specific moment in the mission Violence and Timing, when I looked up the error code that had appeared, it told me to uninstall the game and then reinstall it. After doing so (which took several hours) I tried the mission again and it didn't work. I was eventually able to fix it but crashes and glitches in this game are so rampant that it is almost unforgivable. They also locked 2 guns behind a paywall in the battle pass which means that it is pay to win and one of the guns that were locked behind the battle pass is the only sniper that can one shot to the head in warzone (all other snipers only break 3 armor plates).

    TL:DR

Campaign - Gameplay good, story bad

    Multi - Lack of content

    Gunsmith - Good

    Co-Op - Lack of content

Other issues: **** Activision and their pay to win ****

The biggest weakness of this version of Call of Duty can definitely be its story. The story had an interesting beginning, but then the story begins to decline with a significant trend and there are only one or two more times that the story of the game can attract you.

The developers were too cheap and lazy to add all of that in the disc. It requires internet just to be able to play the campaign. I was on the verge of giving this game a negative score for that reason alone, but I would be in denial if I said I didn't have an absolute blast with this game. This game has tons of replay value with the multiplayer. There is even a third person mode in multiplayer.

The campaign has fun and diverse missions, although there are some parts of the campaign that can be annoying. It has good attention to detail and interesting moments. Very well paced. The story was okay I guess, didn't really care much about it. The gunplay and player movement are well designed. The graphics are biblical. The environments look stunning. You can play offline multiplayer, but there are only like 3 maps that you can play offline for some reason.

As I mentioned earlier, internet is required to play the campaign and offline modes. So once the developers decide to switch off the servers, you won't be able to play it unless you keep it installed in the PS5 I assume. I will eventually delete it, so it'll end up in the trash can. And the greedy developers had the audacity to charge $70 for this. Nonetheless, I did enjoy the multiplayer. Ground war is better and more balanced. No longer do I feel defenseless when I see a tank. The customization is good. The maps are well thought out compared to the recent CODs. The inclusion of the border crossing map and the F1 raceway map is a stroke of genius. There is even a third person person mode. The skull on the boxart has a cringeworthy face. This made me remove the cover paper off the game case and rip it into pieces. I recommend you get this game until it is like $30-$40.

Is there a Multiplayer with 12 yo dominating the chat and screaming in your ear if you forget to mute all? Ouch.

Are there Kill Streak Rewards for bumping the already strong players and punishing their cannon fodder? Double Check.

Is the single player riddled with the same "run to point X and the enemy respawns will stop" trigger type maps? Oh yes!

Is there a level where you have to jump from car to car, while driving a car yourself, shooting out enemies and obstacles while driving and then jumping out of the car before it explodes to hijack another car driving at full speed - a level which is so painstakingly maddening that its designers should be bumped down to replay it for all enternity to see how dumb that design is? You betcha!

Well, ladies and gentleman, you have yourself a COD!

6/10 for insanity, graphics and well.. it's COD, so it cannot be rated below 6/10 - duh!

This is my 2nd review of this game. The first one that I wrote was a lot more positive. After the season 1 patch where a lot more content was added I think I can finally conclude all the goods and wrongs of this year's CoD.

First of all let's start with campaign. It's surpisingly good and realistic. It's a mature story with likeable characters that isn't afraid to pull punches but also doesn't exaggerate when it comes to violence. I really liked it. I don't think it beats the "rule of cool" of the original MW2 but there will certainly be people who enjoy it way more for it's toned down approach.

The Spec Ops. At first I felt they were fine but it has quite a few problems, The scenarios you're being put in are kind of the extension or you could say an addition to campaign. They are semi-open world missions where you are given several objectives and to finish the mission you have to complete them and extract.
They are still trying to force class setups which is fine I suppose but I didn't really feel like they changed much. They are a lot more scripted and are just better version of MW19 SpecOps.
On first playthrough they're fun but they get mostly boring on repeat. Not bad but I'd prefer if they went back and tried to recreate original MW2s SpecOps.

Multiplayer introduced semi-new gunsmith and perk system but other than that it's the old same formula.
First of all the maps. They're ok. There are good ones and bad ones. It's a bit of a mix. Most of them are better than the ones in MW19.
There's quite a few weapons. I also quite like the approach with balance smiliar to original MW2's logic which is "if everything is OP then nothing is". Sure there are better and worse guns but for the most part I think the game is doing a good job in balance department.
The new gunsmith is kind of pointless. I won't get into details but basically it complicates the progression and people are mixed on it. I think it's a change for the sake of change but it didn't impact me negatively nor very positively so for me it's whatever.
I actually quite like the new perk system where you get your perks over the duration of the match. Yes it does take away some of the value you'd normally have from it but it allows you to pick 4 not 3 perks and it rewards you with them faster if you get kills which is nice.
The pace of the game slowed down as now you can't really keep your speed momentum as you could in MW19 with jumping around corners and slide canceling. Instead now to escape you're allowed to dolphin dive which can surprisingly often save you if you're losing a gunfight. I like it. It's a fun mechanic that returns after almost 10 years from BO2.

The anticipated DMZ is a lot more dissapointing than I expected. A lot of it is just either fighting AI till you're dry or just driving a vehicle. I really discourage people from playing it. I like extraction games but this one just isn't balanced well. At least yet.
The game doesn't know what difficulty it should put you on so it just starts spamming bots that aren't a big threat but in large groups can be dangerous. And because of that you're often forced to switch your loadout or pray to God for some ammo drop. I wouldn't recommend playing it without a coordinated team as you have to prepare for a lot of different situations and randoms just can't grant you that.
It also a shame that they forced lock a weapon behind this mode without any other way of earning it.

Last one thing is the battlepass. The new battlepass kind of improves how you earn the rewards. The rewards are spread throughout multiple "tiers" let's call them and those tiers are tied to other tiers. In those tiers there are 5 rewards. 4 are insignificant but one is the good one that most people want. After that other tiers unlock and you're allowed to progress different tiers.
You progress them thorugh points you earn by playing or buying them. It's a weird system and again it seems complicated for no reason because they could've just let you pick rewards you want and after that you'd gone after the ones you want less. It's a change for the sake of change.

Overall MW2 2022 has it's fair share of positives but a lot of it seems overshadowed by it's shortcomings and shallow changes that really don't intend on changing much. I wish it was more of a spiritual successor to original MW2 but it really isn't a bad game. I just wish the whole package was more consistent rather than being good in certain parts and bad in others.

Currently the disable crossplay option for PS5 is merely cosmetic and does not function while playing multiplayer. Turned off crossplay chat off at the same time and found myself in a multiplayer lobby with random people pre-muted. Being unable to inspect their profile cemented this fact. The fact is that I spend most of my time playing multiplayer angry due to the BS fact that someone has a PC with 180 FOV pulling off a near 180 quick snipe on me every match. Multiple large maps are sniper heaven with close range dominating the few buildings that are there. Leaving little to no cover. It seems they pulled another lazy move of making maps for Warzone first and multiplayer second.

As usual, full price or not, the game is not complete. You are paying a premium price for a game that will - hopefully - have the content it should've had at launch except in 12 months.

EDIT: Refunded the purchase once I snapped out of it and read their S1 roadmap. The addition of meh maps - and only two of them - the trickling of new weapons that are literally n the campaign but were specifically held back just to add later to MP. **** Completely not worth playing when a better MW2 literally exists. I never understood when they thought it was a good idea to make cod games more realistic, as that has never been their selling point. It has always been an arcade shooter, meant to be user-friendly, but is quite literally the opposite. People complained ghost was too powerful, how do they nerf it? make a horribly designed system that allows you to get your "ultimate" perk pretty much halfway through the match. They had a system that worked before, it was called pick ten. If a perk was good, it would take up two slots, sometimes three meaning, you'd have fewer options to choose from i.e maybe you couldn't care about a lethal or a tactical. there are hundreds of different attatchments to choose from. of those hundreds, 95% of utterly usless. Also, why should I unlock an smg, to get an attacthment for an ar? there is no correlation between those weapons. I could understand battle rifles and ar's, marksman rifles and snipers sure, but that is stupid. Not to mention to unlock certain attatchments you also need to level a pistol. Makes 0 sense. Not. One. Good. Map. Not to mention only 9 on release, now there's 11 yay, oh wait their old maps that have already been in the game and somehow, they made them worse due to how **** their spawn system works. The sun on some maps, is blinding to the point you can't see three feet in front of you. Let me not get started on all the bugs that happen, the crashing that is still occuring from time to time, random lag spikes, and frame drops. How does a multimillion dollar game company screw up time and time again? Epic games with fortnite was able to come out of pretty much no where, and make the most popular game for almost 5 years straight. The devs do not listen to the community, it is evident. If they did, the games would be fun to play. only reason this gets a 4/10 is because the campaign was fantastic. That is it though. No other redeeming quality about this game. Expand

Except for maybe two or three misions, the rest are forgetable. There's nothing memorable in it, except for the final mission which is unbelievably bad.
Also adding cratting in this game, it's a big NO for me.

The multiplayer is absolute garbage, the maps are awful, awful all of them, not a single decent map and there's something off about them. They're all generic, with a pretty bad flow and most of them uninspiring. And that's my main issue, the maps are so bad this game cannot be saved unless they start from scratch. MW2019 had only 2 maps that were a bit a bad, but here every map is downright awful. Feels like i'm in some kid's playgrouns instead of actual combat zones or warfare maps.
Also, the MP looks visually worse than MW2019, why is that? Everything looks downgraded, more cartoony and too colorful for my taste. The textures, the foliage, everything has been pretty much downgraded for no reason.
The gameplay mechanics have changed for the worse, now everyone bunny-hops or just camps at the corner of the map. The movements have changed as well, it's clunkier.
The guns feel different, and the recoil has been exaggerated here. Also, why did they replace their real names? Visually they look like plastic, that's another downgrade.
Also, violence has been reduced, there's less gore and dismemberment is no longer there. What were they thinking?
The UI is horrendous, problematic and hard to navigate. Same goes for the gunsmith and the weapon unlock, awful.
The MP feels like it was developed by Treyarch Games and it feels absolutely bad, they make mediocre games and i absolutely avoid them. What's more it plays and feels like a mobile game instead of a PC and console game like the previous MW.
SBMM has been cranked up to the max and there's no chill in this game anymore.
The operator design are something straight out of a comic book and they're all horrible.
Also, they added bots, another big NO.
Coop missions are pretty simple and boring, nothing even close to the masterpiece of MW2019 coop missions.
Ground War and Invasion are OK, but gets old real quick. Especially if there are bots in the match.

I tried to like the game, but i just can't. The maps are too bad for me to handle, at this point i'll be going back to MW2019 real soon. There's no point in playing something i don't enjoy.
That's it, i always trusted IW over any other developer that made COD, but they dropped the ball. I think i'm done for good with this franchise. This is just a sad end.

We're probably talking about one of the worst Call Of Duty game ever created. I cannot believe i waited three years for this garbage.
The only reason i'm giving this a two is because the gun sounds are even better than before, but that's all that there is too it.

No way these good reviews are legit! Feels slow and nothing new. Maybe one map is ok. All camping. Something with the sound just isn’t right but I can’t put my finger on it, warzone had better sound

Somewhere along the way to a visually impressive game the fun got lost, I feel ripped off paying over 100 for this game.
The fun isnt there like the 2019 version.
Campaign, BORING - quit after an hour. Multiplayer so far …. Filled with the all stars looking to “dominate” … where they have the time to get so good so fast, I will never know I’ve hated my experience so far. Wish I hadn’t

After playing the game for hours I can say this was a waste of time and money. Sure the game showcases stunning visuals and decent sound design but the gameplay does not meet my expectations. This may be the worse COD game I've played in years.

I absolutely love the game but am giving it a 2 strictly due to how broken and unusable the games menus and features are. For a AAA title such as Call of Duty I would expect there to be no issues with basic things such as the menus. The weapon platform menu is unusable, filled with place holder images, while the navigation doesn’t work. If I’m trying to see when I unlock something you can’t open the menu and scroll around freely to what your looking for. If your looking at the final weapon, you can’t even scroll to the end to see all of the attachments. The ideas behind most of the new features and quality of life changes are good in theory but you have to execute. And who ever programmed these menus and who ever okayed them for the final build should be fired. I love the idea behind attachments unlocking across a weapon category vs each individual weapon. But why do I have to wait to unlock an attachment in a given slot for a weapon when I have already unlocked attachments for that weapon from a previous weapon. Some of the weapons don’t have you unlocking various attachments until half way through the weapons progression. Why do I have to wait until level 7 to unlock a sniper rifles scope attachment? And then when you do the 10 or so other ones you have unlocked are there too. This feature was advertised as unlock for one unlock for all that use it all to decrease the monotonous slow grind. But you still have to grind. And then finally the sheer lack of guidance/menus for calling cards, awards, weapon attachments, and camos. A feature that is and has been present in these games since the original Modern Warfare. Missing unlock information for various weapon attachments, or the game saying that you have unlocked something but then that item showing up still locked and unusable. Like I said the game is amazing and I can’t put it down but with the fact that most of my issues are things that should have never made it past initial testing and quality control. Makes it hard to give the game a higher score for such amateur and basic mistakes. Expand

I don't get the point but luckily most agree. don't buy it, it's dramatic. it's even worse than the beta itself and you don't even feel it's finished. I forgot to say something. The flexibility of the campaign is laughable. Constant reminders of staying in the Mission Area, and against leaving it, and then being stuck in Spain, w/locked doors, and no explosives, then had to restart, made me close the game.

I do not play like that. I play like an adult, not a toddler.

Waiting patiently for Microsoft to takeover, so we can finally get the games, we deserve.

The abuse is enough. Activision has made the people addicted to COD, like alcohol did in the 20s and crack in the 90s.
They have used, abused and generally disrespected the OGs, and given the modern world, a pretty, but non-practical game.

Nobody talks in Multiplayer, and games are over, unless you are the person, to carry ungrateful bastards to Victory.

I am not, and never will be. You better follow an order, or fall out of favor.
I'd like to see one get abandoned in a real Warzone, and see how they'll react.

If you can't take a game serious, then what can you take serious?

Quit the game, go to the Home Screen, and delete it. Either that, or play Soios ALWAYS.

I hope some day, those kinds of individuals, feel one day, what I felt. Betrayed, down, and dirty.

Added 2 scores for the sake of my man, Simon "Ghost" Riley. Nothing else matters.

It's hard to say that any of them are instant classics. Gunfights are just tedious and the spawn points ensure that another player will quickly interrupt any fun you might actually get into.

Take the map "Embassy", for example ( https://callofdutymaps.com/modern-warfare-ii/embassy/ ). The tennis court in the NW corner is nothing more than a huge chunk of empty space that nobody will ever use. There are roofs and balconies and a helipad that could add fun and variety to the matches, but the players can't access them.

2009's MW2 on the other hand launched with 16 (SIXTEEN!) core & HARDCORE multiplayer maps including a few classics like Favela, Highrise, Rust, Scrapyard, Terminal, Afghan, Quarry, and Karachi.

So instead of including a great variety in maps at launch or remaking some old classics, Activision decides to introduce different game modes instead, including modes with jarhead AI running around.

Leveling up guns has never felt like more of a mindless chore and the UI design is really confusing.

This might just be the most boring CoD game launch ever. Multiplayer is just another rushed $70-100 game obviously designed just to level up weapons for use in the upcoming Warzone 2.

Horrible. Never said this about a COD game before but here we are. Can't even progress through the campaign because of a glitch. And the offline multiplayer (I'm an offline gamer) is the worst. THE worst. You cannot even customize loadouts. There are a few loadouts you can choose from and thats it. For online? Of course you can already buy lots of skins. Don't buy the game.

A somewhat droll campaign will greet players of Modern Warfare II. It's a short bombastic romp with some fun gunplay moments and fantastic graphics. The multiplayer, however, is a miss as it is no longer a properly combined entity and the lack of replayability is disappointing. A recommendation for CoD fans but for anyone even slightly on the fence perhaps keep shopping or waiting for a sale.

CoD MW 2 is a refreshing single-player experience, providing players with some of the best action-packed moments and great characters, but riddled with multiplayer balancing issues and extreme performance and technical problems. It still is CoD and is fun for anyone who finds its casual shooting gameplay compelling, but it plays safely and doesn’t present itself as something revolutionary for the franchise.
