Aug 17, 2023Blasphemous 2 is not for the faint of heart. The battles can be difficult at times - to a controller-breaking level. However, if you’re a fan of the stresses and strains found in Souls-like games and are willing to learn the moves inside out, then this Metroidvania will reward you with beautiful finishing kills and adrenaline-filled boss fights.
-
Sep 7, 2023Miraculously Blasphemous 2 manages to top it's predecessor in almost every meaningful way.
-
Aug 28, 2023Blasphemous 2 has earned its place as one of the great metroidvanias. While it can be punishingly difficult, it’s equally rewarding to overcome all challenges the game has to offer. It maintains everything that was good about the original but also improves on its shortcomings, putting a greater emphasis on exploration and character building. When it comes to overall gameplay, Blasphemous 2 is not a terribly innovative title, but it does an exceptional job of following the best examples of the genre and creating its own unique and unforgettable world. For any metroidvania fan, missing out on Blasphemous 2 would truly be a sin worthy of penitence.
-
Aug 18, 2023Blasphemous 2 really nails the sequel formula: it beefs up the gameplay, expands the world and all its hidden goodies, and keeps you hooked to give it another shot. In this game, every bit of effort you put in pays off.
-
Aug 17, 2023Blasphemous 2 is one of the best metroidvanias ever. The Game Kitchen has outdone itself in every way to create a masterful sequel to the second pilgrimage of the Penitent One.
-
Aug 17, 2023Blasphemous II took so much of what made the first Blasphemous notable and heightened it from a pure-combat specialist to a memorable metroidvania. Not only are there improvements to combat and movement to feel both fluid and fruitful, but the experience is captivating and enthralling from all standpoints. Looking through every nook and cranny is enjoyable enough, but you’ll stay completely mesmerized by the gorgeous artwork and atmosphere. The Penitent One’s journey is arduous and demanding, but it is a hell of a time.
-
Aug 17, 2023While it’s unlikely to win over anyone that tried the first and didn’t vibe with it, Blasphemous 2 is undoubtedly a treat for fans wanting to spend more time with the Penitent One. With more variety in terms of both visuals and gameplay, this is a confident sequel that builds on the foundations of its predecessor. And while its story may be confounding at times, we can’t help but be mesmerised by its dark and mysterious world.
-
Aug 17, 2023Blasphemous 2 is a purist metroidvania, with an emphasis on exploration, that surpasses its predecessor without leaving aside everything that made it unique. It is fun, challenging, spectacular and better balanced.
-
Aug 17, 2023Blasphemous 2 is a near-flawless sequel that only improves on its own formula. The game is bigger, bolder and more confident in every facet. Combat is more diverse and brutal, the platforming more fulfilling and the presentation more enriched and hauntingly beautiful. One of the best 2D Metroidvanias that honours the Soulslike formula, whilst carving out its own path.
-
Aug 17, 2023Blasphemous 2 is the maximum evolution of a video game that, in the past, mildly surprised the critics but entered the hearts of the players. If with the first chapter there was a lot, perhaps too much uncertainty, the second iteration of the franchise has instead totally evolved the entire play system, proposing a poignant story. With a pixel art that fills the screen, coloring it with vivacity, Blasphemous 2 is also a beautiful sight from an artistic point of view. What else to say about game design? Evolved, mature and concrete. In a hot, very hot summer in which video games are demonstrating ever higher standards, the second iteration of the most blasphemous franchise ever could not be missing from the appeal. Sin awaits you.
-
Aug 17, 2023Blasphemous 2 takes the essence of the first game and elevates it to a new level. Challenging but fair, graphically simple but visually stunning. It is a sequel made with care and respect, that any fan of the format will find tremendously satisfying.
-
Aug 17, 2023Blasphemous 2 leans heavily into its inspirations, and therefore doesn't reinvent the wheel – but with more to see, more to do, and, of course, more to slaughter, it improves on its forerunner's familiar formula across the board with devastating results.
-
Aug 17, 2023The battles are tough but fair, the magic and parrying system is satisfying, the weapon system caters to different playstyles, and the Liturgical Horror visuals are hauntingly beautiful.
-
Aug 17, 2023It's always great to see a sequel improve on the original while keeping the spirit of the original alive. I loved my time in the crazy world of Blasphemous 2, with plenty of secrets to find and great combat that keeps you on your toes. Though its story could be a little more cohesive, it doesn't take much away from the overall product. Blasphemous 2 is easily one of the best indie titles of the year.
-
Aug 17, 2023Blasphemous 2 takes the foundations of its well-received predecessor and builds upon it in all the right ways. Tweaking combat to make it faster, smoother, and more accurate, removing insta-death scenarios to make platforming more manageable, and packing the game full to the brim with secrets and collectibles. The great attention to detail in the presentation and high level of polish make Blasphemous 2 a delightfully memorable experience that players will look back on fondly for years to come.
-
Aug 17, 2023This is a must-play for fans of games like Hollow Knight and the Castlevanias of yore, with challenging bosses and a superb sense of personality. It one-ups the first game in most meaningful ways.
-
Aug 17, 2023This is a must-play game for all Metroidvania enthusiasts. The sequel gets rid of the problems of the first entry and manages to push further beyond all of its virtues. There's almost no flaws at all in Blasphemous 2: the game boasts incredibly addictive gameplay, fun misteries, exploration and a bearable yet challenging difficulty. It can certainly be considered amongst the best Metroidvania games of all time.
-
Aug 17, 2023Blasphemous 2 is a bold step up for The Game Kitchen, and somehow manages to feel both familiar and brand new.
-
Aug 17, 2023This is a fantastic sequel that improves on everything to deliver a challenging, well-designed, addictive and visually striking adventure.
-
Aug 17, 2023A sequel that first of all thinks about smoothing out the previous imperfections, before offering a series of very well implemented innovations overall.
-
Nov 7, 2023Blasphemous 2 felt incredibly good to play despite its challenging nature and complex combat. It’s a great Soulslike 2D action-platformer that doesn’t rely on nonsense gimmicks that make the game artificially difficult for the sake of being punishing. Its exploration, art direction, and worldbuilding are unmatched in a sea of modern Metroidvanias released in 2023. If you’re down for a good challenge or path of penitence in a Roman Catholic-inspired 2D platformer, look no further. Like it or not, you will pay for your gameplay sins.
-
Aug 18, 2023Priced at a decent $30 and the size of only 2GB, Blasphemous 2 offers well over 20 hours of Metroidvania Action, and for those who are patient and are willing to learn and explore, it’s a must buy.
-
Aug 17, 2023Blasphemous 2 retains the core elements of the first game, but improves on them with the addition of new combat, movement, and exploration mechanics. A must play for Soulsvania fans.
-
Aug 17, 2023Though Blasphemous 2 lacks the wow factor of the first game, it does smooth out its edges to the point where it feels like a tighter, more fluid experience.
-
Aug 17, 2023Blasphemous 2 is a very challenging game but by and large, it’s a fair one, too. Timing, persistence, and the ability to read patterns — not brute force — are the only keys to making it out the other side. In terms of level design and weapon variety, it’s a step forward from the first game. If you enjoyed Blasphemous, the sequel will feel both familiar and surprising in equal measure.
-
Edge MagazineSep 9, 2023Our pilgrimage is one marked by the cuts and bruises we accumulate along the way, yet we find ourselves encouraged by a familiar mantra: how sweet the pain, indeed, when it is our own. [Issue#389, p.106]
-
Aug 24, 2023Blasphemous 2 is a streamlined sequel that any genre fan can enjoy, especially with its creepy cast of characters and superb bosses.
-
Aug 24, 2023A significant improvement on the original and undoubtedly the best 2D Soulslike game so far, with a macabre and imaginative style all of its own.
-
Aug 21, 2023Blasphemous 2 has everything a proper metroidvania should have and plenty more besides. It’s properly difficult, it boasts wondrous exploration, epic bossfights and an imaginative world. So it doesn’t really matter that it’s not very different from the previous instalment.
-
Aug 17, 2023Blasphemous 2 continues the achievements set by its predecessor while adding three new ways to fight. Not straying outside the lines, Blasphemous 2 is simply more Blasphemous at the end of the day.
-
Aug 17, 2023The Game Kitchen manages to do very well by combining video games and Andalusian folklore. They once again demonstrate their mastery of metroidvania with Blasphemous 2 by further pushing the formula of the first episode: three weapons directly integrated into the gameplay, an atmosphere that is still just as gloomy and combat that is gratifying and far from insoluble. However, those who did not catch the first episode are not likely to be converted as the evolution remains too timid in our opinion.
-
Aug 17, 2023Blasphemous 2 is a success. If you enjoyed the first journey, you'll love this new pilgrimage. And if you're a first-timer, don't panic - you don't need to have played the first game to try this adventure. Blasphemous 2 stands on its own. Part Metroidvania, part Souls-like, the game takes the best of both worlds and builds its own personal mechanics in the process. The result is more than convincing. The gameplay is accessible but demanding, the difficulty is present but not insurmountable, and exploration is a pleasure, even if it's easy to get lost. There's no doubt that Blasphemous 2 is a rather striking game, if only for its proposition and its universe, which deals with mythology and religion in a way that we don't often see. The resulting art direction and bestiary are also top-notch, despite a few repeats from the first episode. The whole thing is bathed in an ear-watering OST and boasts top-notch pixel art. Whether you're a lover of the genre, a fan of the licence or just curious, go for it.
