Battlefield 6 has an enjoyable, but brief single-player campaign that ends just as it is getting really good. The campaign feels like an extended tutorial for the diverse systems in multiplayer, which provides a potpourri of vehicles and tactical options to do battle with, but doesn't exactly break the mould. Battlefield 6 just can't quite reach the heights of Battlefield 1 or add much spice to the decades-old, oversaturated contemporary military FPS genre. Battlefield 6 is a return to form, but not an elevation of that form.

A refined but unadventurous restart for the Battlefield series, which returns to the thrilling spectacle of the classic entries, even if it doesn’t do very much that is new.

Providing a twist on the traditional Battlefield plotline and some picturesque new locations to enjoy (and destroy), this latest instalment will satisfy fans looking for more of the same only different. The real highlights, though, are to be found in the campaign from which the new multi-player battle settings are culled, as if the PVP element the series is famed for is now the side content. As such, the title is unbalanced; more campaign would make the package meatier and more rewarding for those players less inclined to hours of US marine cosplay with their lingo-toting online squads.

Battlefield 6 gives the series' fans the big battle experiences they've been wanting, though it doesn't offer too many unique advantages in small-team firefight modes over rival military shooters.

Battlefield 6 marks a strong comeback for the shooter series, and its weak campaign can only slightly dampen the excitement. [Review in Progress]

At nine missions and just five hours, Battlefield 6’s campaign’s flame doesn’t burn for long, and it doesn’t burn particularly bright in that time, either. It’s a staggering spectacle to behold at times, and a treat for the ears at others, but when it comes to mission design and an engaging plot, it fails to deliver at all. A quick afternoon of fun, it's a safe reimagining of what Battlefield once was, but far from a bold reinvention of what it could, and maybe should, be now. [Campaign review score = 50]
