In Chapter 3 they set up a trap unexpectedly where you lose magically all your all the arms (Bug?/ stupid plot)and your are meant to fight or flight. He kills me. The game is ugly, glitchy and full of generic quests, locations and characters.

I thought I would love this but the early reviews of this game still apply years later. It's unplayable, boring, and lacks fun. Very slow starting and just slow pacing overall. Very slow starting and just slow pacing overall. I really liked Odyssey for a good while thanks to the story but started getting bored with that one further in. This starts out as a snoozefest and then just keeps getting worse. The bugs are plentiful and you'd think years later these would be fixed but no.

The story is so nothing. I didn't feel invested at all and it isn't engaging. It was very generic and written like a bunch of Americans read a couple of grade school books about vikings and watched too many Marvel movies. The phrases they use and the way they talk sound more like they pray to the Marvel Odin than the Norse Odin. You have all these one off interactions with people like you're supposed to know them and have a rapport but why do I the player care? I just met them and they're supposed to matter? This is just bad storytelling.

Okay graphics, it's a step back. On PS5 you'd expect more but the snow effects are bad and it looks like I'm a rolling pin through a mountain of cake icing, the rigging and character models look outdated, the Odin object indication lacks definition and there are no settings to fix it. I hear things ping but even gold items barely show up on my OLED screen. The bird mechanic is half useless most of the time until you upgrade their functions.

Gameplay is pretty awful. Parry just doesn't work right. The button layout is bad but customizing it is like a 20 minute task as you can't just remap a button you have to remap every function and they all seem to collide. I've gotten stuck in a few spots, enemies see me in hiding at times, view distance for enemy archers is insane far and their accuracy is ridiculous. Staggering enemies seems broken and a lot of the battles you just dodge a lot. A lot of missions require you head on fight and with how broken fighting is I feel like I'm playing a bad GoW war clone.

The sailing is so bad. It's unrealistic but also clunky. I like the auto sail mechanics but sailing seems like an afterthought where they just shoved in black flag mechanics on a tiny boat.

Navigating and interactions are probably the worst part. Climbing is essential to AC and when it's bad it breaks the game. Want to climb a roof? Well scramble around until you see a prompt come up that says you can climb here then do it because if you guess you're always wrong and you just come out of hiding and get spotted. Go into a window? Better make sure you're at the right angle in the right spot or you just stand there. Climb down a cliff? Crouch then hold crouch otherwise you just stand there. Half the time you're better off just jumping and taking the damage.

Using a horse is also important. Too bad most of the time when you call it the horse rushes right past you and keeps running. You never even get the chance to get on it like the horse is mocking you. If you're not near enough to a road auto nav doesn't work either you just get a message that says "cannot auto navigate".

Oh and I saved the worst for last. The sound mixing and music. For the most part either the music in this game doesn't exist or it's mixed terribly. At the very beginning of the game you're at a party with a guy playing music yet you hear no music, just people. Why? The audio either sounds muffled or distorted and I have a nice home theater. The worst is the horrid tin high pitched triangle sound that marks the start of world music and lasts far too long while also being way too high frequency. If you have tinnitus it will trigger it. Then any time you open menus you might get the title song and it goes on for a while. You hear that song when you sync, when you do certain things, at certain mission points, way way too much and what should be a beautiful title theme is an annoying everything theme. In other games it was a minor song that lasted as long as the interaction but this is very loud, very abrupt, the loudest thing in the game by far, and it plays for a few minutes after the event stopped.

It also sounds like a lot of the audio samples were done in a sound booth or bathroom. Real world sounds you expect in most games just aren't there.

This was obviously a rushed game, it's one of their worst. I didn't even get half way I hated playing it.

Okay... Let me explain why i gave this a four even though i wanted it to be the next big hit after Assassin's Creed Odyssey. - This score is meant to be "they tried very hard but still failed"

    Now the explanation:
The "story" feels blant. None of the characters made me feel something. I simply didn't care what these peoples problems are. AND its super repetetive (at least it feels like it to me - can't speak for all people).

The so called "gameplay" - OKAY... now... where to begin. Lets begin with exploration. I LOVE exploration games but climbing a humongous mountain to reach something AND NOT EVEN GET REWARDED other than a **** synchronization point and an overview over some plains you just travelled in is not something i was looking forward to. It feels forced and blant and frankly boring. Again like the characters.

The raiding mechanic is fine i guess and fits the theme.

The base-building is also "somewhat important" but not so much that i would say you need to build anything except the Brotherhood building and maybe the smithy. Feels bare boned and not really thought through.

Combat. - they sell diverse combat but it really is combat that a toddler could do. The animations are so telling, the build-up to an attack so obvious that there really is only a chellenge if you are surrounded. And even that is not much of a problem when you can dodge really. They stripped everything that made the combat of Odyssey/Origins and the other more combat focussed games they did in the series great and are now selling it in a worse state than ever back to us. The "skilltree" is even worse. This huge tree is only suggesting depth. Practically no Min-Maxing possible without getting useless junk in the build you want to play. Same with loot. The things that i LOVED about Odyssey was that it was leaning in further in the RPG direction than Origins and it was fantastic. In Valhalla they are in a limbo state between "we want to be a RPG but dont try very hard to be one" and "lets **** mess around with this until nothing good is left". I understand why people disliked Odyssey but i think it did alright. It found the means to connect Assassin's Creed to the RPG Genre and it was fun to play. Part of which is because of the skill tree and diverse loot you could find in the world. Which is completely lacking here.

Like i teased already. The loot and item acquisition. Yeah... uh... practically all the items you can find are scattered around in the world in chests. There is a finite number of them. Not like an RPG where you can loot everything, not like an action game where you find basically no items at all. Like i said. I think they couldn't decide in which direction to go and made a mess of it on the way.

If they make an Assassin's Creed game they should either:
    a) incorporate Assassin's Creed GAMEPLAY (stealth, information gathering, assassinations, espionage, templars, etc) or
    b) stay on route with the RPG they already made. Where the main characters ARE (technically or not) part of the order and where players can CHOOSE hwo they want to play. But please give people AT LEAST the chance to play stealthy if they want.
AND FFS GIVE ME MY HOODS BACK AND LET ME HAVE IT IN COMBAT TOO.

    TL:DR
They tried to make an Assassin's Creed game with a Viking setting and failed miserably. They instead build a game with an identity crises. It doesn't want to be a RPG or full action game. It feels like a Frankenstein version of Odyssey, suggested depth, trying hard to be a good game sprinkled with a quickly assembled story and it is blant and not fun to play. This Game does not want to be an Assassin's Creed game. And, if i am honest with you... It shouldn't be called Assassin's Creed in the first place. People say Odyssey was an abomination... than this piled higher on the **** heap than that (even tho i liked Odyssey).

Sincerely A huge fan of the series.

Music is sometimes good but most of the time is just ambient, boring and lacking energy. Characters are either over the top or just badly written (except maybe for Basim and Sigurd and very few other exceptions). Dialogue is very mediocre. Combat is bad at first, then it gets better only to then get worse. Ubisoft makes an extremely violent game where you can kill your enemies in a 1000 brutal ways but everything else such as historical realities and the fact that Vike-boys were brutal slavetraders, rapists, pillagers and murderers gets sugar coated with Raven Clan being the good guys and other compromises because Ubisoft has no balls to even GRAZE the area of controversy. I mean really lol. Raven Clan is basicaly a hippie commune where people live in harmony with the nature, where people of all ethnicities, religions and cultures are welcome, almost everyone is bisexual (XD) and people get high with shrooms to enter other dimensions (XDD). It is subjective but IMO games that aren't even about vikings get the whole "vikingness" better like Witcher 3 with Skellige or even Skyrim. The open world at first looks beautiful and exciting but ends up being really empty and devoid of character. It's almost tragic how shallow it is. You go up the cathedral and gaze upon the foggy hills of England and marvel at it's vastness and beauty. Then you jump down and realise that there isn't anyhting interesting. No funny or immersive NPC dialogue to overhear, no random events taking place where you can interfere and get in trouble, almost zero historical or geographical lore about incredible places you visit. Music is also virtualy always the same for every location. For example: In Oxenforda (figure out which city it is) the only thing that ads any characteristic stuff to the place is some funny letter about how Oxenforda will never be famous for anything but it's fish (very funny). Then there are side quests. Again it's subjective but IMO side quests are bad because almost every single one of them revolves around some freak having a ridiculous problem. They are memorable and original - true but, again IMO, are another nail to the coffin of the vibe of the game as they are so over the top you can't take vast majority of them seriously. And now worst of all- sound quality. All of the in-game audio sounds like total SH*TE. As if you put a layer of cloth between your ear and the headphone which makes it so much harder to immerse yourself in the world you are in.

I'm being harsh because the game tries to be what the Witcher 3 and RDR2 was and it fails miserably with it's bad to average design decisions. I won't deny- some of the aspects of the game are good. Combat can be epic at times but it gets repetitive and audio-design diminishes it by a lot, side activities can be fun but they feel like an afterthought, story is interesting but... SEE THAT? "BUTS" EVERYWHERE. There is not a single thing besides Orlog in this game that isn't spoiled in some way by a bad design decisions and the fact that Ubisoft team lacks any talent. And I didn't even mention the bugs that ruin it further (I could seriously talk for hours abut how lacking ACV is). It's not even a bad game with a good one hidden inside like Cyberpunk it's far worse than that: it's an average game trying to be a great game while being a very bad game inside. I would've given it 6/10 but the Audio quality+infuriating bugs+MICROTRANSACTIONS IN A GOD DAMN SINGLEPLAYER GAME FOR 60€ make it a 4/10 AT MOST. I'd rather play Skyrim for a 1000th time than Assasin's Creed Valhalla for the first time.

Valhalla's map may be slightly smaller than Odyssey's, but Ubisoft still seem intent on stretching their content as thin as it will go. Valhalla doesn't veer from Ubi's open world formula, which involves littering the map with busywork. At least Odyssey's loot was interesting - in Valhalla it's mostly reduced to a ingots, 'supplies' and 'raw materials' - hardly an exciting reward for completing a raid.

Valhalla structures its story into chapters set in various English counties. For me this brings with it an issue with the characters - not only is the main character pretty dull, but the supporting characters are never around long enough to be fleshed out to the point of being interesting or likeable. The story is stretched out over so many hours that it lacks any kind of momentum, but it boils down to this - the good guy Vikings want to take over England because we're told the Saxons are bad. This includes any settlement you can raid, which involves slaughtering hapless guards minding their own business. But it's worth it to collect yet another iron ingot...

The game beings to take an interesting turn by transporting you to the realm of Asgard, although this quickly becomes just another area crammed with icons and pointless collectibles.

The gameplay follows Odyssey with light and heavy attacks, God of War-style abilities with cool-downs mapped to face buttons, and the use of Witcher senses to investigate crime scenes and follow trails etc. Some set pieces and large scale battles can be enjoyable, but really there's no point in taking on the endlessly spawning enemies, and instead you're better off just running to the next objective.

I never thought this would be the case, but I think I enjoyed Odyssey more, as at least it had stunning locations, Greek myths and interesting loot. Valhalla is the last AC I'll buy.

The combat lacks any impact, even when playing on a higher difficulty. Eivor is somewhat compelling as a protagonist but in the end they feel very bland and lacking in personality. This point is particularly notable as you spend an incredibly bloated 100 hours with them. Within 100 hours, eivor has less personality than Bayek did in the first section of his game. The bird is pretty cool though I guess. I’m a pretty big AC fan usually, as I really love the historical setting (despite its inaccuracies), but this was well and truly a let down. I hope Ubisoft learn from their mistakes and improve upon the new AC formula. Also the micro-transactions are outrageous, selling reskins of gear that was in odyssey and origins, the price of these reskins? Around $15. If you have fun with this game, that’s great, but as a huge rpg fan I cannot recommend this bloated mess of a game. 4/10, I regret purchasing the game and wish I didn’t complete it. Expand

Play the first six or so games and they feel like AC games but this is so far from it.

I don't know what this game is but it isn't an AC game. Finish the series and call this the Battle Through Time series or something cause slapping on the AC badge on this isn't fooling me.

But if I'm to judge this on its own it looks fantastic and the story isn't half bad. The combat isn't great and the leveling up systems are terrible. Certain areas require you to be at a power of 90 when you could only be at a power of maybe 25 if you were only doing story missions. The game requires you to go around doing random repetitive tasks to move through the game. That's crap.

This game requires you to loose your mind doing repetitive crap or for you to be crazy enough to pay for an XP boost on top of your 80 euro game. Seriously!

Definitivamente el peor de la trilogía Expand

Uhg...seems so cliche to say, but just another open world Ubisoft game...

Big empty world with a lot of heights to climb, stuff to collect and grind, and a story that just has no weight. Gameplay is the same as its predecessors , with little innovation. I will say that Eivor can be a compelling character at times, but the eye-rolling story trying to connect it with the Assassin's Creed

I can't help think this would've been better if it was just, and only a viking game.

Boring is the first word that comes to mind, there’s no reason a game should be this long and be this boring! Repetitive as hell, and the characters other than the ACTUAL assassins are forgettable. Overall wouldn’t recommend unless you enjoy doing the same thing over and over again with a boring story thats only good at the end.

The most boring AC game i have ever played (played every one last of them). Eivor has 0 charm, Basiim is interesting but only appears in literally 5 missions. Combat system is worst than Odyssey, the animations are trash and the "parkour" is like C-3P0 climbing a wall. Worst AC high diff

Bleh. Nothing in this game feels good to do, it feels lazy and unfun. I know it's not a very in depth comment, but this game is just a waste of everything that went into it.Leave it to AC to make a viking game boring. Pretty impressive to make something this mediocre at everything. Not to mention this is just too bloated and grindy.

Valhalla is an unpolished, messy of an AC.
The sound, still after months after release's still awful. The combat and stealth are the worse we've had on an AC game. The story is god awful, along with the crappy voice acting. It's unfortunately really bad. I love AC series, loved Odyssey, but this one is just trash.
Don't buy this game, it's not worth. Ubisoft standards are lowering more and more.

I'll try to explain my score without writing an essay about it or even being influenced by the previous AC titles.

PROs: - Astonishing graphics, but it mainly limits to the landscape. Some characters are interesting to look at, but the majority of side characters have the same dull model. CONs: - The game tries to copy the Witcher III type of sandbox, leaving you to decide what to

    PROs:
    - Astonishing graphics, but it mainly limits to the landscape. Some characters are interesting to look at, but the majority of side characters have the same dull model.

    CONs:
    - The game tries to copy the Witcher III type of sandbox, leaving you to decide what to do next or where to go, but it fails in doing that because it's not fluid or engaging.
    - Is this really an Assassin's Creed game? or is it just a brute's story of raiding villages with his crew?
    - The gameplay is clunky and buggy, and utterly annoying. The camera work is horrible; the targeting (R3) has an awful cursor almost invisible in the mid of the battle, etc...
    - The story starts a bit strong and interesting, but after 10min or so, it simply tumbled into eternal boredom. I'm not kidding when I say that I almost fell asleep playing this game.

Assassin's Creed Valhalla feels like the climax of all the shortcomings Ubisoft games have seen over the years. I seriously wonder if Ubisoft is years behind in the feedback they get on their games.

Positive points such as the beautiful graphics on the PS5 or the art design unfortunately do not go up against my negative experiences. A world that even feels bigger than it’s predecessors

Positive points such as the beautiful graphics on the PS5 or the art design unfortunately do not go up against my negative experiences.

A world that even feels bigger than it’s predecessors bloated with lots of filler content (despite the attempt to replace icons for colored dots), an enviroment (of England) that feels bland except for a number of cities, akward cutscenes because the characters are looking like dolls and pause way too long between sentences, a story that just doesn't seem to get going before the 30 hour mark and a ridiculous skill tree that is so detailed that you don’t feel your progression in game. As much as I wanted to meet with my excitement, this game is too far removed from the Assassin's Creed experience that I enjoy which resulted in a game that felt like one big chore.

    Pros:
    - Graphics
    - Art Design
    - Atmosphere of the cities

    Cons:
    - Bugs
    - Worst audio in a game I have ever experienced
    - Again a map that is too large bloated with filler content
    - Characters in cutscenes
    - Main character(s)
    - Story and length of the game(story)
    - Bland environments of England
    - Compared to the previous parts, the function of the raven has become totally meaningless.
    - Huge and way too detailed skill tree
    - Short gameplay loop

There are two competing experiences here: that as as Assassin, and that as a Viking, that either on its own feels like it might have been a triumph and better than this good but not great Assass-king hybrid we have.

Assassin’s Creed: Valhalla effortlessly plants its banner as the best open world RPG available for the new consoles. This Viking epic flexes its gore-soaked, tattooed muscles when it comes to world-building, and medieval England wows with its enchanting untamed vistas. It’s also portioned out at a steady pace and, if not for the repetitive, limited combat, Valhalla could have ranked even higher among our favourite games in the series.

Is Assassin’s Creed Valhalla the best entry in the series yet? Some would be tempted to say so. While the map size might overwhelm some players, it remains an easy game to mainline with the right navigation mode turned on. In fact, the quick load times help to make this an even easier task than in previous generations. This is an iteration of Assassin’s Creed that has a bit of everything from the previous games, as refined as we have seen to date.
