Another Crab's Treasure sets out to try and create a Soulslike that trims down the complicated foundation into a new approachable format and succeeds in every regard. A variety of accessibility options mean that anybody can dive in and experience the journey of Kril and have a part to play in the hunt for his shell. While inviting newcomers, Another Crab's Treasure manages to offer an exceptionally unique approach to combat that manages to stand out among the crowd. Technical hiccups throughout sour the experience very slightly, but the game on show here is ambitious and a strong candidate for anybody's first foray into this well-beloved genre. All managing to come together under an appealing and consistently entertaining journey and cast, Another Crab's Treasure is a great time.

Another Crab's Treasure isn't the messiah of souls, but it doesn't pretend to challenge From Software's work either, but it does take the basic elements that the studio knew how to create and bring them to its comfort zone to generate a unique, narrative experience, with a lot of humour and which is an excellent entry point for new users to this genre. Those who are already familiar with these experiences will feel at home and will not find it hard to get into this underwater world that, by dint of great moments and a package of good ideas, undoubtedly generates more smiles than anxiety.

Another Crab’s Treasure proves to be a creative and playful entry in to the Soulslike genre. The colourful look makes it a stand out between all its dark and gloomy counterparts. Although it could do with a bit of honing, its core gameplay provides the (sometimes punishing) learn and repeat mechanic us Souls fans are after.

The adventures of the hermit crab Kril mark an important episode not only for Aggro Crab, but for the soulslike genre as a whole - even if it suffers from some stumbles along the way.

No sailor’s yarn: Another Crab’s Treasure brings a breath of fresh air to the soulslike genre thanks to innovative ideas. Smaller problems cannot be denied, but thanks to a lot of charm and humor they don't make any waves.

After diving into Another Crab's Treasure, it's hard to understand why hasn't more been done to expand beyond the foundational souls-like element. There's clearly room for thinking outside the box, and Aggro Crab mostly nails it with this unique take. With colorful characters and an even more vibrant world, jump in for the feel-good vibes and partake in mostly satisfying underwater combat. Despite the occasional hiccups, this is still one shell of an adventure that works great for genre veterans and newcomers alike.

At last, a Soulslike manages to do things at least a little differently to Dark Souls, with some clever new features that take advantage of the more cartoonish setting.

Another Crab's Treasure is a scrappy, succinct and soggy soulslike that doesn't just pay homage to FromSoft's pioneering efforts but stands out in its own right. There's no getting around the fact that it has serious issues of performance and polish that can really bring down the experience, but it's a game so packed with charm, so inspired, so unexpectedly cooked and with so many flashes of brilliance that I can genuinely say it's worth suffering through the pain points. I don't think I've been quite so enamoured with a game like this in a long time.

Another Crab's Treasure emerges from its shell as a refreshing and whimsical addition to the often intense and cryptic realm of Souls-like games. Its accessibility options make it a great point of entry for newcomers and genre veterans will appreciate differences such as its open world design, greater focus on platforming, and its many equippable shells.

Another Crab's Treasure wears its heart on its sleeve. The makers clearly love Fromsoftware and are happy to share that love with the whole world. Thanks to extensive accessibility options and a wonderfully colorful game world, everyone can enjoy it without any worries, until we all disappear below sea level.
