It is a fun, challenging, tense game that presents the player with a never ending stream of choices, different missions, objectives and surprises. XCOM - Enemy Unknown, the franchise reboot from the brilliant minds at Firaxis was already a fantastic offering which had set a new golden standard for isometric, tactical games. XCOM 2 (and especially the War of the Chosen expansion) improves the original in almost every way imaginable, and in a bunch of other ways players hadn't dreamt of. It is a marvelous game that no one that likes strategic games should miss.

Then, you may be wondering, why am I giving this gem a 5?

First of all, the soft problems:

    1) The original reboot of the franchise was way more accomplished in terms of mood and setting. The aliens of the original game were far more mysterious and menacing, and the tone of the game was darker and more appropriate to an alien invasion. The original 1994 game was also very scary ans tense at times, especially the night missions (and even more so terror sites at night time). Setting the mood convincingly and making the player feel goosebumps is certainly an art form (don't believe the elitists who claim videogames aren't art), but the Firaxis team has unfortunately chosen a different direction for the sequel, one that isn't to the game's benefit. A pity.

    2) The design of the Chosen aliens are dreadful, in my humble opinion. They look like the quasi-evil incarnations of World of Warcraft's Draenei aliens. Uninspired and very out of place in an alien invasion game.

For these two problems I'll take away 1 point, bringing the game's score to a 9.

The other 4 points are taken away due to very, very poor optimization and a very unstable port to the PS4. I have played this game both on the PC and the PS4, and my advice is: avoid playing this on the console at all costs. Play it on PC instead if you can. The game on PS4 has serious, serious performance problems and actually crashes frequently. It also features insane loading times and graphic/texture glitches.

XCOM 2 - War of the Chosen is a superb game, that unfortunately received a very, very poor treatment when it was ported to the consoles. Let's hope Firaxis treats their games with more respect next time.

An amazing update with so much content it's unbelievable but totally ruined by bugs and glitches and painfully slow loading screens and some of the worst frame rate drops, but when you see 2K then you know trash isn't far away, shame I couldn't give this a 9/10.

Now this is what i call an expansion. This made me replay the game almost completely. You could say its more like XCOM 2 2.0 actually. I did not experience bugs like other players seem to have so i cant take that in account of my review. The new classes are fun and add depth to the game and it helps with the repetitiveness to. I only wish it wasn't so damn expensive.

As an XCOM fan, I had to buy. I am ashamed to say I had to stop playing. I play it on PS4. I honestly dont care about the graphic issues. Dont really mind at all how goor or bad it looks. However, what I cant stand is the loading times.

The game is so dificult despite being on medium, that many times you have to load the autosave, and that would take 2 to 3 minutes. Nowadays, I dont

The game is so dificult despite being on medium, that many times you have to load the autosave, and that would take 2 to 3 minutes. Nowadays, I dont know a single game that takes this longer. For that simple fact I had to stop playing a game that I honestly love a lot.

You may say "dont load that often", but sometimes you have to do it because it is just not fair. Picture an scenario where you have already spent the moves of 5 soldiers, with the sixth, you move him to the very next spot where he alarms the enemy, then, that enemy kills half the squad the next turn. It is just not fair. Another scenario, any scenario that involves the cobraking (not sure thats the name in english). That m****f***er has a reaction for everyaction, even if you reload your weapon, it may poison you, shoot at you or whatever is worst. Not to mention it will appear in the next 3 to 4 missions.

One day I will play it and I will defeat it. Promise.

War of the Chosen is an overhaul expansion of the XCOM 2 base game. Introduced several years after the base game came out, its purpose is to make the campaign more interesting and diverse.

The expansion adds 3 new factions: Skirmishes, Reapers and Templars. Each of these add new abilities to the game, and make your team more diverse by using them. The game also features more mission objectives, including the satisfying Lost missions. In these missions your team is ganged up on by hordes of zombies, which adds new gameplay features to make it more tense and enjoyable to play. The story also includes 3 chosen boss units, with each their own distinct abilities, strengths and weaknesses. Their affects are felt in missions, but also on the large map.

I was surprised by the many new features this expansion added, and it made the campaign even better than the base version. However, Firaxis also managed to make the game even buggier than the base game... Such a shame. Clearly the developer is too lazy to properly patch the game, which heavily degrades the quality of the game. It is an excellent expansion if you buy it for €14,- like i did, but €40 is waaaaaay to expensive for this buggy mess. I give it a 7/10.

XCOM2 WOTC is the worse better game ever. While it's complex and thought-provoking, the difficulty make it impossible to beat the aliens.

While the game doesn’t run optimally (some framerate chugging and stutters are quite prevalent, especially in areas with a lot of special effects) the upgraded, enhanced formula that XCOM 2: War of the Chosen offers is absolutely superb. I was fully engaged in this rebellion against humanity’s extraterrestrial overlords, and I’d have no hesitation recommending it to anyone in search of a top-tier tactics experience. And for those, like me, who bounced off of the original XCOM 2? It’s absolutely worth coming back.

Developers worldwide, pay attention: this is how you do DLC. As innovative as it is addictive, XCOM 2: War of the Chosen not only manages to meet expectations... It thoroughly exceeds them.

War of the Chosen overhauls the already fabulous XCOM 2 and turns it into absolutely essential fare. The introduction of the Chosen, the soldier bonding system, and the photobooth mode, are perfect additions in that they amplify the base game’s best qualities. It’s just a shame the shine is dulled ever so slightly by a bunch of needless technical issues.
