War of the Chosen contains so much new content that it could almost have been called XCOM 3. Every mission dishes out a new enemy, mission type, or environment, which allows the game to remain fresh for several dozen hours. War of the Chosen’s wealth of interwoven systems might overwhelm newcomers, but strategy nerds willing to master the nuances will be treated to one of the most rewarding strategy games in years. I don’t know how Firaxis could make a more complex yet gratifying strategy game, but I can’t wait to see them try.

War of the Chosen takes what’s best on XCOM 2 and makes it more elaborated and complex. This essential expansion will surprise the owners of the main game, it’s truly a must have if you own XCOM 2.

    DO NOT BUY, GAME BROKEN

4/10, the game is barely playable. And i'm not exaggerating, on ironman the game crashes while saving, erasing the playthrough. And IT WILL crash, I never managed to complete the earliest main quest mission, the game always delete all progress before reaching that point. There should have been a patch in september. It's the end of february, and the game is still broken af. There is a great number of other glitches, the whole game is a mess. Is the story good? Is it bad? Does the new enemies entertain the player? Who knows? I couldn't play it.

Apparently there are no plans for a patch. Many people ask on twitter, facebook, official forums. Firaxis stays quiet.

How could they release a game in this state? I would refund if i could. DO NOT BUY!

And firaxis, i'm never going to buy an other game from you, and i won't lose the opportunity to talk **** about you when the topic comes up. Shame on you.

As I write this review on Monday, December 18th, 2017 the DLC has been out for almost 4 months and I've yet to be able to finish a campaign on Legendary difficulty without a game-breaking bug. So many glitches and bugs. Not a peep from the developers about whether they are working on fixing it, either. They have their money and now they've abandoned the game, at least on console.

Here's another baffling and more than irritating thing: Remember all those characters that you carefully and time-consumingly crafted for your Xcom 2 character pool? They don't transfer over on consoles. That's right, when you start War of the Chosen, which is just DLC for the original Xcom 2, you have to start from scratch rebuilding all your beloved characters. Of course there is a workaround for this on PC, but just like game fixing patches, consoles are left high and dry.

Before all the fanboys and apologists start saying that at least we get the game on consoles, that's crap. The base game and expansion are both too highly priced for console users to be getting an inferior version.

Just to reiterate: Don't buy this DLC unless you see it very, very cheap on sale. It's fun when it works, but you will lose so much time and effort when those game-breaking bugs and glitches hit that it's better not to even get involved at this point. Hopefully someday the devs will stop screwing the consoles and get a patch out to fix the many issues with this, but as of mid-December there's been no word from the developers about having any intentions to do that. Avoid this broken rip-off.
