This is how You make addon. This addon add so much to this game. Too bad to owners of classic game that performance fixes wont apply to You but everyone else will be trully happy with what they got.

And you get new enemies, new friends, better optimization and so much more.

The PS4 version crashes constantly (although the game and the PS4 are fully updated. As a result, my autosaved games from the Iron-Man were deleted TWICE with no option to be recovered. A huge waste of time.

I thought the vanilla XCOM 2 was awesome and I finished it. I bought this expansion and started playing it again and yeah it's better. I don't think I'm going to finish playing it again but this is a top-notch game before and it's even better after. Also I don't have any performance problems at all on the PS4 Pro.

Nice expansion of the base game. I like the extra variation in missions and tools. It's good to get some modifiers to start the game with too (though number rather limited compared to Enemy Unknown)
As for the titular chosen: they're an OK addition, but not great. 2 of the 3 just stand at the other end of the map spawning extra enemies on top of the regular mission, a bit lame.

To defeat them finally, you have to go through a very bulletspongy endrun, that was not enjoyable either.
Game also had a runtime which is a bit too long per run for my taste.

to the devs: Fix the bug which deletes the ironman save when the game crashes!!! for the rest: great game.

It is a fun, challenging, tense game that presents the player with a never ending stream of choices, different missions, objectives and surprises. XCOM - Enemy Unknown, the franchise reboot from the brilliant minds at Firaxis was already a fantastic offering which had set a new golden standard for isometric, tactical games. XCOM 2 (and especially the War of the Chosen expansion) improves the original in almost every way imaginable, and in a bunch of other ways players hadn't dreamt of. It is a marvelous game that no one that likes strategic games should miss.

Then, you may be wondering, why am I giving this gem a 5?

First of all, the soft problems:

    1) The original reboot of the franchise was way more accomplished in terms of mood and setting. The aliens of the original game were far more mysterious and menacing, and the tone of the game was darker and more appropriate to an alien invasion. The original 1994 game was also very scary ans tense at times, especially the night missions (and even more so terror sites at night time). Setting the mood convincingly and making the player feel goosebumps is certainly an art form (don't believe the elitists who claim videogames aren't art), but the Firaxis team has unfortunately chosen a different direction for the sequel, one that isn't to the game's benefit. A pity.

    2) The design of the Chosen aliens are dreadful, in my humble opinion. They look like the quasi-evil incarnations of World of Warcraft's Draenei aliens. Uninspired and very out of place in an alien invasion game.

For these two problems I'll take away 1 point, bringing the game's score to a 9.

The other 4 points are taken away due to very, very poor optimization and a very unstable port to the PS4. I have played this game both on the PC and the PS4, and my advice is: avoid playing this on the console at all costs. Play it on PC instead if you can. The game on PS4 has serious, serious performance problems and actually crashes frequently. It also features insane loading times and graphic/texture glitches.

XCOM 2 - War of the Chosen is a superb game, that unfortunately received a very, very poor treatment when it was ported to the consoles. Let's hope Firaxis treats their games with more respect next time.

But: for a reason performance on PS4 became worse. Stuttering, delay between video and audio, loading times are approx the same. This is why the mediocre score.

EDIT: Been playing it for a longer time, and the performance issues became more obvious:
-textures not loading correctly: i.e. 4 out of 10 times character is missing the torso, limbs, or the environment missing patches of textures.
-low res textures: sometimes game cannot load textures at all and falls back to low res versions
-frame-rate drops: especially on the new type maps, its very bad.
-end turn: time after you press the end turn is visibly slower
-audio/video sync: console cannot handle the game, audio comes faster than it's video counterpart at the cutscenes
-action cam: terrible frame rate drops when horde swarm appears.
-loading times: this is the worst. you can get a shower between missions, loading times are so
    terribly long.
-crashes: yep, they are there. 1 crash at every 5 missions.

I decreased my original score from 6 to 2

TL;DR: Gameplay, atmosphere is absolutely fantastic (dislike the fantasy-like chosen, with vibrant colors, would have preferred something more realistic without that cliche raspy-evil voice)
Sadly performance cast a dark shadow over this. Feels like I am playing on a low end computer which still cannot handle the game. But it's a PS4, not a low end computer. Should be at least as good as the original game. But it became worse :(

However despite all of its efforts, the game mechanics and engine really struggle. Graphics issues are very common (even running on a PS4 Pro) and although not game-breaking can really break immersion. However the bigger problem lies in the games mechanics where the game will set up scenarios that are literally impossible in missions. For example in one mission where the task is to extract 'VIPs' by defending them from a horde of monsters, the game spawns a recurring villain right next to them. On the first turn he wipes them out, before any of your troops are even close. I have replayed this mission 10-15 times and I cannot find a way to win. What's the point of the mission? If it is to demonstrate the concept of 'impossible' missions, why not at least create risk for your troops? As it is, I can just evac my troops in turn two and fail the mission. OK I fail a mission and some bad stuff happens, but not enough to justify it as a design concept so the reality is that it is just a mistake on the game's part and that is truly disappointing. Expand

Apart from that, it's a cheesy, borderline cheating piece of **** that will exploit each and every single turn to beat you down to the ground and keep you there. First mission on veteran (after the tutorial one that explains the story): I hit the landing zone with a team of four rookies. I start sending them forward. One of them voluntarily runs through the flames, setting herself ablaze (a character I spent 15 minutes customizing, wonderful), then dying in flames 2 rounds later. Game then tells you to use a knife on one of the enemies so I proceed to using aforementioned skill on the highlighted enemy, kill him and my guy suddenly finds himself on an open field. The game spawns 3 additional enemies, right in front of him. The poor guy, without any cover, dies in one hit from one of the aliens. Third member of the team panics from seeing it, runs towards the enemy and gets shot down. I'm down to the last man, who takes cover at the beginning of the mission, too far away to do any meaningful damage to anyone and with 3 turns to defuse a bomb and kill 6 bad guys along with 2 reanimated enemies.

    All this in first mission.

You really don't want to know how easily I failed the second mission for about 3 times in a row.

XCOM 2 on its own feels like a second rate indie-title which tries very hard to look like a double-A title. Since Firaxis should earn enough with this franchise to be at least able to polish it ten times as much as they seem to care for and they should be able to hire people who at least know what is fun for people to use, not just to play ;) - the engine delivers a very messy performance and the UI is a total catastrophe on every level - I am astounded that these guys are still in business. I have to say!
Since NONE of XCOM 2's more pressing issues were adressed with this title and no bigger changes made AND Firaxis manages to worsen the performance of the engine overall ... THIS DLC REALLY SHOULD NOT EXIST! PERIOD!

Well, if Firaxis is planning on making a third entry to this franchise ... they should start from scratch! This is quite honestly intelligence-insulting. Nothing more. If you make a game for people who like to think and plan ahead, you should at least try and make something that people who pay attention to detail can enjoy. Instead of rubbing EVERYONE the wrong way, dear ... "Firaxis" ;)

You may say "dont load that often", but sometimes you have to do it because it is just not fair. Picture an scenario where you have already spent the moves of 5 soldiers, with the sixth, you move him to the very next spot where he alarms the enemy, then, that enemy kills half the squad the next turn. It is just not fair. Another scenario, any scenario that involves the cobraking (not sure thats the name in english). That m****f***er has a reaction for everyaction, even if you reload your weapon, it may poison you, shoot at you or whatever is worst. Not to mention it will appear in the next 3 to 4 missions.

The expansion adds 3 new factions: Skirmishes, Reapers and Templars. Each of these add new abilities to the game, and make your team more diverse by using them. The game also features more mission objectives, including the satisfying Lost missions. In these missions your team is ganged up on by hordes of zombies, which adds new gameplay features to make it more tense and enjoyable to play. The story also includes 3 chosen boss units, with each their own distinct abilities, strengths and weaknesses. Their affects are felt in missions, but also on the large map.

I was surprised by the many new features this expansion added, and it made the campaign even better than the base version. However, Firaxis also managed to make the game even buggier than the base game... Such a shame. Clearly the developer is too lazy to properly patch the game, which heavily degrades the quality of the game. It is an excellent expansion if you buy it for €14,- like i did, but €40 is waaaaaay to expensive for this buggy mess. I give it a 7/10.

At first I loved this game for the setting, level design and soldiers, I considered this game to be good and that it would become one of my favorites even then. But with every 5 hours of playing, I learned how terrible the gameplay of the game is and that this is one of the worst games I have ever played. Spoilers are minimal. 1) Even afterI have played this game for over 50 hours. At first I loved this game for the setting, level design and soldiers, I considered this game to be good and that it would become one of my favorites even then. But with every 5 hours of playing, I learned how terrible the gameplay of the game is and that this is one of the worst games I have ever played. Spoilers are minimal. 1) Even after releasing a large-scale addition to the game, the developers did not remove the huge randomness in shooting, when the machine gunner at point-blank range in 1-2-3 cells has a low chance of hitting and how miserable it looks in the game when he misses a huge alien that is standing right in front of him. 2) Bugs. They are everywhere. Bugs with shooting animations, bugs when the game is paused when there is a lot of shooting from spectator modes, bugs with grenade explosions, bugs with the abilities of the chosen ones, bugs when using engineers in the power relay. What the developers were doing preparing the addition to the game is unclear. 3) Stealth. It doesn't work normally. When successfully using stealth and bypassing enemy points, patrols at some point begin to go towards the player for no reason, and this happens all the time during missions with penetration to specific points. No logic, no development. Complete failure of the mechanics. 4) The worst is the sequence of moves, which is not reset if you are given an additional move of the last soldier for killing (for example), but the game does not allow you to do this and at that moment a plot event occurs (for example, the resurrection of the chosen one) and the game takes your turn, making a full one progress in the opponent's event, and you get back your half-one move left only for moving. As a result, the enemy makes literally 2 moves, until you absolutely could not do anything and this one does not depend on you in any way. Worst turn based game design I've ever seen in the history of gaming. 5) There is absolutely no tactics. It all comes down to random whether the enemy will hit through the cover / pass the stun / miss. The computer opponent does both completely stupid actions and brilliant ones at the same time, absolutely killing all the seriousness of what is happening, which you look at with laughter. Perhaps this is normal if you play on a low difficulty and score on logic and realism, but this is not interesting for experienced players. 6) Terrible development of the fog of war, when, for example, the Wanderers are close to Advent (which they also attack as a player), but until you open the fog of war, they just stand still and do nothing. And as soon as you opened it, they begin to act and then ignore the fact that they are point-blank to the enemy. They begin to stupidly run around and it looks like a clownery. And such missions also start in stealth, which absolutely destroys your tactics, since they can accidentally run out at the moment the fog of war opens and run out to you (although they break down exactly on the opponent of Advent according to the mechanics of the game when you are still in stealth). Summing up, I will say that this is only part of the problems and not all that terrible that is in the game design of the game. The game has a lot more problems and is more offensive just because the game initially seems good due to the setting and the design of the squad with the levels of locations. To bury such potential with such terrible gameplay I have never seen. I don't recommend anyone to play this Expand

This is actually a add on but it's so well made you won't mind it if you played the regular x-com a must play

The best gets better with so much added content it feels more like a sequel than an expansion. The best game of its type on a home console.

While the game doesn’t run optimally (some framerate chugging and stutters are quite prevalent, especially in areas with a lot of special effects) the upgraded, enhanced formula that XCOM 2: War of the Chosen offers is absolutely superb. I was fully engaged in this rebellion against humanity’s extraterrestrial overlords, and I’d have no hesitation recommending it to anyone in search of a top-tier tactics experience. And for those, like me, who bounced off of the original XCOM 2? It’s absolutely worth coming back.

Developers worldwide, pay attention: this is how you do DLC. As innovative as it is addictive, XCOM 2: War of the Chosen not only manages to meet expectations... It thoroughly exceeds them.

War of the Chosen overhauls the already fabulous XCOM 2 and turns it into absolutely essential fare. The introduction of the Chosen, the soldier bonding system, and the photobooth mode, are perfect additions in that they amplify the base game’s best qualities. It’s just a shame the shine is dulled ever so slightly by a bunch of needless technical issues.
