There has been so much hype surrounding the game that it turned out to be relatively damaging on release date. Honestly where are all these negative reviews coming from? The lowest for this game should be a 6, but a zero? That's flat out retarded and should be disregarded, you are putting it on the same level as Ride to Hell, and that was f***cking terrible game.

Honestly this is a well developed sandbox games that in many ways surpasses GTA V. For one, it has a living breathing world of which the likes I have never seen before, seriously each resident doesn't feel like a lifeless AI whose sole purpose is to walk around, each resident performs a different activity, making Chicago all the more immersive.
The gameplay is ridiculous fun, the hacking ability provides something fresh and invigorating in the sandbox experience. Going into someones personal life or hacking things like pipelines, traffic lights and other such things makes you feel like a master hacker that can get into anyone's life.
Graphics were a controversial topic when it came to this game. The e3 2012 demo showcased some of the best graphics I have ever seen in a sandbox game, which only increased the hype to dramatic heights, unfortunately it was downgraded by a staggering amount due to it being a multi-platform release that included the aging ps3 and xbox 360. Don't get me wrong, the game still looks great for the most part, especially during the night while it is raining, that is a visual feast you must behold. The only reason I put this as a con is because ubisoft once again used false advertising to show us a game we will never fully get, which of course is going to upset users because you played with our expectations, which is unfair.

Another con, surprisingly, is the story. While is showcases many interesting characters who are portrayed with top quality voice acting and animation, the story just seems a bit uninspired. Its tone is inconsistent, segments if the campaign are riveting with cliches, and quite frankly I'm not a fan of the protagonist, at one point he acts like a complete badass by threatening people in subtle ways and sometimes very unsubtle ways and then in the next scene we see him as a family man, his character just seems sporadic and all over the place.
Overall Watch Dogs is an excellent sandbox game that is bustling with activities and sidequests that will keep you occupied for hours. It adds a unique gameplay element that helps distinguish itself from being a gta clone and has some pretty great graphics. I give it an 8 out of 10, if it weren't for a few missteps with the campaign and the false advertising led by ubisoft, this would have most likely been my GOTY

Now, despite its numerous failings in both story and at times graphics and overall visuals, as well as its failure to deliver on several early promises, Watch Dogs is far from a bad game. It is a really enjoyable and replayable experience, even if it is a highly flawed one as well. As with many similarly flawed titles of its genre and caliber, the main attraction and the main thing that works the most in Watch Dogs is in fact its open-world setting and the relative freedom players are allowed in deciding what they want to do or where they want to go, as well as when and why or why not. Choice and hacking capabilities alone make this a worthwhile title to play, even if it isn’t quite the hit they were looking for. I for one certainly enjoyed my time with this game, as well as the fact that it retained similarities to their other recent titles- such as Assassin’s Creed and Far Cry, without going overboard into those territories at all. If there’s one thing that can be said about it, it’s that Watch Dogs is certainly one of a kind- even if it isn’t because it’s sailed into uncharted territory, and is only because there hasn’t really yet been a game quite like it in conceptual terms. If they do choose to make it a series, which seems viable considering it sold pretty well, I’d be interested to see the hopefully improved sequel and to compare its rights and wrongs to those of this title as well.

Concept: Explore open-world Chicago as the revenge-seeking, trenchcoat and ballcap clad hacker Aiden Pearce. Enjoy some cheap thrills and spills, laugh at the mostly overdone story moments, and torment the people of the city with environmental chaos and hijacking of the citywide OS employed by a corrupt corporation.

Graphics: The game looks good on most consoles and devices, however there are times when it is visually muddied, and it doesn’t like up to the frame rate or overall graphical awareness originally promised as well.

Sound: There are several tunes in-game that work and several that don’t. The accompanying score works in most instances where the licensed content doesn’t.

Playability: With the exception of the odder than not vehicle controls, the other mechanics handle fantastically. Naturally, because of the vehicle controls, pretty much any of these mechanics being used during chases are more frustrating than not.

Entertainment: It’s in its own class and genre thanks to the exceptional hacking abilities afforded to your character, and overall it’s quite an enjoyable experience. Also, there are some doge jokes to be made about and in the game. I kid you not. Seriously.

    Replay Value: High.

    Overall Score: 8.0

Many games nowadays suffer from over hype, even being unfinished. Many people say it delivers little to what it promised, but one only needs to look at it's very similar 'rival' GTA V which was plagued with launch problems both offline and notably online. Yet it's still people's favourites. Without GTA V Watch Dogs would have been more accepted but people's desire to see things crash and burn covers their vision and makes them blind to what really matters.
What Watch Dogs delivers is an enjoyable 40+ hour game with plenty of content ready for your enjoyment. If you decide to take the time out of the main mission there are many activities to embroil yourself in, including many online modes (which were all active from day one).
The driving is clunky, the online may take a long time to connect, the graphics on your average computer you bought from PC World aren't as good as the graphics represented at E3 2012 but all in all does that really matter. Most games have bad driving unless they aren't GTA V.
Watch Dogs has a lot of people using the 'as long as you enjoy it' card. Which is true, but it is a decent game. One that could perhaps do with a few updates. But if GTA V can launch half finished and succeed so can Watch Dogs.
This review may not have convinced people but hopefully it will at least certify some people's thoughts. Don't believe everything you read, but if you do read a lot.

There is a wealth of things to do, but very few of them were developed enough to hold my attention for more than ten minutes at a time. Regardless though, this game's strength lies in its core combat, which seamlessly blends the novel one-button hacking that the game so heavily advertised and the very tight gunplay which manages to create a unique feel of each weapon and permit both the stealth and guns-blazing approach (although I imagine most players will go for the much more rewarding stealth). If you love open-world games then this is a must buy. People should not have expected WD to outclass GTA V. Rockstar have had over a decade to perfect the formula and it's going to be a while before somebody takes the crown from them. Rockstar have had over a decade to perfect the formula and it's going to be a while before somebody takes the crown from them. WD is not as refined as GTA V but can be just as detailed and engrossing.

The hacking aspects work really well and do not feel like they have been tacked on. Gunfights (on realistic difficulty) are unforgiving and just one misstep results in death, planning (and surveying the environment with your hacking abilities) is the key to survival. The car handling is really sluggish and takes some getting used to but you can live with it. Collateral damage is frowned upon which is a nice change as it forces you to act more like an actual vigilante and protector rather than half good-guy, half spree killer. The police are like wild dogs and will hunt you without restraint if you are caught doing something you shouldn't be which again forces you to plan your actions accordingly.

The sound design is not as rich as it could have been and is my main complaint. The city itself is a bit too 'quiet' and the level of noise pollution could have been ramped up. There is a pseudo-radio triggered when driving around which occasionally broadcasts news clips relevant to in-game events. Sadly, these news tidbits are completely forgettable. The music selection is absolute dick. There are around thirty songs and you can acquire more in-game by hacking them from the phones of NPCs, unfortunately most of the songs are just rubbish. To the best of my knowledge all the bands/artists are Chicago affiliates e.g. Elmore James and there is a modest amount of Chicago Blues in the roster along with a few nice 70s ballads. The amount of rap on the soundtrack is criminal. I have no problem with rap but the stuff on here is just no good and there is so much of it! The 'rock' selection is comprised of awful whine-core and even the inclusion of Smashing Pumpkins does not ease the pain as their contribution is dire. It is representative of modern radio I guess, loads of stations but nowhere worth getting off. Clearly though Ubi just went cheap on the music licensing and opted to go for an affordable set of songs instead of a set of good ones. The online invasion mode built into the SP can be thrilling/infuriating and changes the dynamic of the game in a unique and engrossing way.

Facial animations are very bland and the daytime portions of the game are graphically the most boring. Most days are overcast so the colours are often drab. Evening/nighttime and during thunderstorms the game looks best.

I have to deduct two points for the abysmal bargain-bin song selection (it really does cheapen the experience) and lacklustre sound design.

Other online modes include racing and a capture the flag type game. the game so far is excellent and i have had no lag issues or any other issues with the game. The overall idea of watch dogs is a simple one. you are Aiden Pearce a man who can hack into almost anything ranging from Cameras to Grenades held by the NPC characters. There are several ways you can tackle the missions some of the missions can be done without Aiden even being seen by the enemies where as you can also go in guns blazing and take out everyone and anyone you want.

So far i have not found any bad parts, the game runs smoothly on the Playstation 4 the only issue with the gameplay is have is driving. The driving seems terribly clunky especially when you are driving at high speeds and trying to turn corners, but this depends on the car you drive at most times as the better cars such as the sports cars seem a lot more responsive and easier to drive. there is no combat from the cars apart from using your phone to hack things like gas lines, pop up blockers, traffic lights and more thus making driving feel quite limited.

Watch Dogs contains a kind of moral system which reflect on the things you do. Mainly if you injure or kill civilians you will have a negative moral, so far i have not found any reason for this apart from time to time seeing news clips saying things such as ' The vigilante has killed innocent people' the hacking mini game is simple but effective as you have to spin pieces around trying to link to a lock, this mini game is spread out quite even between the games missions so it does not get tiring or repetitive. overall the game is great and is worth picking up if you are into free roam games.

Being set in a futuristic city of Chicago I feel the best things going for Watch Dogs has to be the innovative story it has set, along with decent character developments that will keep you wanting more even after the story is over. The only things that truly held this game back from being the best it could be was due to a bit of rushed story plot lines, quality control and a tad of repetitive gameplay. I dont think its fair to completely compare the two as GTA has its own satire and is a different breed altogether.

Even though Watch Dogs might have fallen short of everyone's expectations, that doesn't mean that Watch Dogs is a bad game. Quite the opposite. Watch Dogs manages to be an impressive new IP that manages to make a name for itself and stand on its own.

The unique mechanic and selling point of Watch Dogs is hacking. All of Chicago is hooked up to a single network known as cTOS. Almost every piece of technology you find is linked together, including computers, phones, cars, and even all the cameras in the city. Your character Aiden is able to hack into all of this technology using his smart phone, and it's the one thing that gives Watch Dogs it's niche in the open world genre. Hacking is fun, and you can useful in multiple ways, including stealth.

Stealth segments are superb, and are easily the most enjoyable aspect of the game. With well-done cover to cover mechanics helping you keep hidden, and fast take downs to minimize chances of detection. What makes stealth better is using your phone to hack the cameras in the area, allowing you to mark enemies so you can see them through walls, and letting you trigger all of the traps and hazards to kill your enemies. Blowing up power boxes to kill nearby enemies or cutting power and making you less visible to your enemies was always satisfying. Also, you can use the enemies own technology against them, activating enemy grenades, or distracting them with their phones.

Aside from that, you can also hack during car chases. There are so many hazards in the city to hack, including traffic lights, underground steam pipes, and even road blockers. All of these are useful and are great for taking enemies out, whether you're chasing them or being chased yourself, and are great to use when outnumbered. They're also easy to use because the game uses a prompt to activate them, so you never have to actually look at the hazards to use them. I took out a ton of enemies without even knowing where they're coming from, and I loved it.

One thing I like in Watch Dogs is an effective fast travel system. Chicago's a huge city, and an effective fast travel system was needed, which is something a lot of open world GTA type games lack. You unlock these by hacking puzzle based towers, similar to Assassin's Creed and Far Cry 3.

However, Watch Dogs isn't perfect. Like Ubisoft's Assassin's Creed franchise, Watch Dogs has a wealth of side content. Unfortunately, Ubisoft usually sacrifices quality for their side missions in favor of providing more of them. However, this means that the side content ends up being generic and nowhere is this more true than in Watch Dogs. Unlike Assassin's Creed, which had a few memorable missions, Watch Dogs has nothing. Even the investigation missions - which had a chance to be something worth while -amount to little more than the typical side mission.

Speaking of which, Ubisoft's tendency to add so much side content usually means that a lot of other aspects of the game come up short, and this includes the story. The first flaw with the story you notice is in Aiden himself. Aiden is not particularly interesting, or likable for that matter. Plus, he has absolutely no background, which means why he's able to hack the city with ease or handle his arsenal of weapons effortlessly remains of mystery. There was nothing on this guy in the campaign or the side content. Luckily, the supporting cast easily help to make up for Aiden's shortcomings, but the problems don't stop there. The cTOS network is set up to be this evil corporation, but the game never does a good job of making that clear. Aiden seems more of a menace to the city than cTOS ever was. DedSec, the people fighting cTOS are hardly given any screen time. Lastly, the ending is the worst part of the campaign. The ending is sudden, ends abruptly, and sequel baits so cheaply.

The Car on Demand app is cool, which summons a car to park nearby, but there's no garage mechanic, allowing you to save vehicles. Because of this, there's no customization or a way to personalize your cars. Driving controls are the floatiest of any game I've ever played. If you're used to any other form of driving, you will hate the feel of the cars, constantly peeling out and having an overall lack of control. Plus, here's no way to shoot while driving. Sure, you can hack in the city to disable vehicles, but there's nothing to hack on the highways, and you end up there often enough to where shooting becomes necessary. Combining shooting with the focus ability, which slows down time, would've been perfect for shooting out tires or taking out drivers.

Lastly, the graphics are not what Ubisoft promised. The trailers and demos look way better than what's here, but that doesn't mean they're bad.

Overall, while flawed, Watch Dogs high points far outweigh the bad, and ends up being a great game that could eventually end up being a great franchise. With the obvious sequel set up and great sales, we'll see more of Watch Dogs eventually.

I also like the fact that they build Aiden's story and give him a personality. Graphics are pretty chippy though, which I was pretty disappointed about. Something does feel wrong to me, I can't pinpoint exactly what that is, but it is no GTA V. While it did fail to meet the high expectations, I think that maybe we should be more grateful that we have a GTA-esque game for the next gen consoles. There's nothing to hate about this game except for the letdown of only being pretty good as opposed to the greatest game of all time. Expand

Good game. Not the best, but the good one. Great graphics, immersive gameplay, very interesting idea with ctOS controlled Chicago. Played for 50 hours on PS4.

I love this game, don't get me wrong. But it has oh so many problems. The story is kind of lacking, characters are lacking development, and more things like that. And certain parts aren't thought out. Why go to a place to shoot a bunch of criminals, leave, and THEN call the cops. Why not just call the cops first and possibly not kill anyone?

Gameplay wise, however, is how I can give

Gameplay wise, however, is how I can give this game such a good review. I spent at least an hour blowing off steam (quite literally, sometimes) by causing car crashes, raising bridges with people on them, etc...

Overall, this game would be worth buying when the price goes down, paying $60 is too much. Honestly though, its too much fun to miss out on.

I give Watch Dogs a score of 8 out of 10. This review is for the Playstation 4 version. The game is very fun. The end of Act 2 is extremely disturbing though and I really wish I had been given the option to skip that mission. Overall, the story left me satisfied. The game is fun and the city is great for exploring, but you can't go inside many buildings. That is why I rate it an 8 instead of 9.5. They could have at least let you ride an elevator to the observation deck of the Willis Tower, but no. You are pretty much stuck to being outside on this. They also don't have the Navy Pier that is such an icon in Chicago. If they had included things like that then this would have been one of my favorite games. This game was good, but it falls well short of being great. Still, it is well worth $60. The other complaint I have is that the driving could have been better. Other then that it is really is a fun game with all the hacking. The last thing I will say is that looking at the skyline at night time on this game is absolutely breath-taking! Expand

The negative reviews posted are nonsense by dimwits who can't even properly write a paragraph. Is the game perfect? Of course not. But it's ambition, especially for a new IP, is admirable. Right out of the gate it aims incredibly high and hits the mark on most aspects.

Looks fantastic on the PS4. The shooting is top notch, if not a bit easy. The driving does need some work (the obvious comparison being GTA). I found the driving mechanics to be more akin to an arcade game than a realistic simulation. But that isn't really the point of this game. Once you ramp a bridge on a motorcycle going full throttle in slow motion you'll say, "oh, that's why I bought this game."

Missions kept me entertained, but after a few hours do get repetitive. The hacking works very well most of the time (there were a few times where I attempted to hack a camera but triggered an explosion instead). Overall the game's aspects come together very well. Like many reviewers have said Watch Dogs 2 will most likely knock it out of the park, but for now enjoy a great first entry in the series.

Watch Dogs is a game that does not deserve the hate it has. It's a game that I became very fond of as I continued through it. Sure, you don't get to hack as much as you thought, and the driving is absolutely terrible. However, if you're willing to look past that, there is a decent game to be played.

Fun Game Overall , Lots Of Replay Value With All The Side Quests & Long Story Mode , The Only Disappointment Is The Graphics Could Have Been Even Better But It Still Looks Good , It Features A Mix Of Driving , Shooting And Balances It All For Great Experience , Definitely Better Then A 6.0 Its Averaging

This game is wonderful, unique, large, beautiful, but it is not a title that should be considered a console seller. On the Playstation 4, it is immensely beautiful. The city of Chicago is alive. The story mode may be considered cliche, but it plays out well in the Watch Dogs universe. The game play mechanics are pretty generic for a third person game except for the hacking. Hacking in Watch Dogs adds a whole new style of tactical game play whether the user is a stealth player, or run-n-gun type. There are plenty of side missions and collectibles, but over time it seems they can be pretty redundant. They are great though for those who like to know every detail of what's happening in the Watch Dogs world. Overall, despite the hype that was produced throughout it's development, it is a must have and must play for any platform a user plays on. Expand

Okay, maybe overrated but still a very good game. Graphics are truly next gen and Chicago is beautiful, detailed and alive. Watch Dogs plays well, no frame rate issues or lagging.

Gameplay includes fun stealth action, car chases (car controls are a bit stiff but you'll get used to it), shooting, hacking, fighting crime and other stuff. Missions are sometimes similiar but it doesn't feel repetitive thanks to the varied level design. Not a hard game, but challenging at some points, especially if you want to be sneaky.
There's some annoying things on character controls, like you can't shimmy on ledges, climb up tall walls or jump between gaps. Parkour and controls in general are much better in Assassins Creed in my opinion. Hacking is really easy, just one button. Hacking is a fun way to mess with your enemies. Create blackouts, blow up things, control traffic and make distractions.
People on the streets look realistic and natural but their A.I is pretty bad. For instance if you even scratch the sidewalk when driving a car they freak out. Even if you're slowly parking on the side of the road and you get a little bit on the sidewalk they start yelling and sometimes they start fleeing. Cops can be also dumb as hell.
I'm having fun playing this, the storyline is good so far. Worth the money for sure. GTA 5 is better than this though.

First of all, I must say I was skeptical to this game. Since it was first announced back in 2012, the game had changed its initial promise to bring stunning graphics, so I thought it could have also got worse in its gameplay.

Fortunately the game is fun to play and the story is enjoyable. Chicago feels alive and the hacking powers are awesome, though the "uniqueness" of each NPC isn't

Although being fun to play, the game stays short in many things when comparing in to some other sandboxes (gunplay, plain characters, car collisions and driving...) and Aiden Pierce himself isn't at the height of a title like this.

Summarizing, the game has some ups (humor, gameplay, story, innovative online multiplayer) but its downs (graphic details, driving is tough, characters are charmless...) prevent it from reaching the initial concept it was delivered. However, it's remarkable that Watch Dogs is easily the best AAA title available for PS4 and a recommendable buy

Watch Dogs is a fun open world experience. However, the repetitive chases and the formulaic gameplay tend to get tedious and boring after a while. As such, you might want to enjoy the different multiplayer experiences and take frequent breaks to just roam around the city.

It’s a bold first step on the new terrain for Ubisoft. The game is enjoyable, offers some interesting mechanics and lasts for long enough, but is bland as a whole. The characters lack personalities, the city could use more distinctness and the story is instantly forgettable. [07/2014, p.46]

Overall, it is almost without a doubt the best platformer that has popped up on the current generation of consoles and is a bedrock on which Ubisoft could build a brand to remember.
