This is no gta thats for sure.....there are some nice things here.
Like the world feels quite alive and the NPC act fairly realistic.....but it does feel pretty lackluster.
Cops are really dumb the hacking is still dumb....and the cast is annoying as hell. The physics in the game is horrible especially when it comes to driving. Bikes are like race car tanks and you cant even tip a car

No, I'm sick and tired of this game getting good reviews. I've never really experienced buyers remorse before I bought this game. I got the game earlier this week because I mistakenly hopped on board the hype train. I played the first one all the way through, and was sorely disappointed with the lack of features and content. It was this massive open world with not much to do. I mean, it has the (now) infamous Ubisoft style outposts and the gazillion collectibles the developer has become known for. The driving sucked, the story was cliche, and the missions were so repetitive. The gameplay could be summarized as "bang, bang, vroom, vroom, hack." What did the sequel do about this? Sorta nothing. It copy and pasted the hacking style of gameplay, and didn't change anything about the shooting mechanics. Also, the driving is still garbage, and bikes are the dominant form of transportation. Bikes can literally break the pvp invasion mode. If the invader is caught in mid-hack, and gets on a bike, they can weave in and out of traffic, and they control better than any car in the game. Literally every car controls as if the road is ice. It's terrible and annoying. Just go play any good open world game with driving like GTA V or Sleeping Dogs and you will immediately understand what I mean. Why is Ubisoft getting away with selling a mediocre game? It's practically the same as the first game, just with parkour and hipster clothing. In it's defense, San Francisco looks absolutely gorgeous and the parkour animations are very fluent. The game looks great, but that's about it. There are practically no changes to the multiplayer, which was one of the biggest problems with the first game. The E3 trailer for the first Watch Dogs had me hooked immediately. Seriously, go watch it, and you'll immediately understand why this game got so much hype. The multiplayer is what sold me on it. The ability to romp around Chicago with your buddies and hack your way through various missions seemed really fun, but that never existed. I don't know why, but there were no co-op missions in the game. The second game has these, but they are all just outposts. Why even give the missions different names if they are all just outposts? It's like Ubisoft put no effort into designing the "fun" aspect of the game. The design aspect is on point, and everything looks like it should, and the NPCs behave like they should, but it's not fun. It will get old very quickly. Every missions can be boiled to to "drive here, infiltrate this, hack that, done." Play the game and tell me I'm wrong. This completely diminishes whatever replay value this game had. There is no story variety, and the characters are just unlikable. There is no depth to them. Marcus is just a hacker and hacks for the sake of hacking. Aidan at least had the revenge arch going for himself. That's the difference between Marcus and Aidan. Aidan has a purpose. Yeah, you could argue that Marcus has one too, but it's not as powerful as Aidan's struggle. yes, his was cliche, but it was powerful and relateable none the less.

Bottom line, this game sucks. Don't buy it. It's only slightly better than the first one. You'd be better off buying GTA V or Sleeping Dogs Definitive Edition if you want you're pew pew, open world, driving fix.

Stealth isn't feasible, with a density of five guards per square ft and being unable to hide bodies, they always go on alert very quickly. Combat isn't feasible: with INSTANT infinite reinforcements, you are always surrounded. What are you left with? Jumping from camera to camera, trying to do as much as possible without physically entering hot zones. May sound interesting, it's just boring.
Exploring the city boils down to finding money and research points, and figuring out how to get to them, since they are almost always on high areas. This usually involves using the RC jumper and possibly external devices such as scissors lifts (investing early into device hacking skills is a good idea, because otherwise you are cut off from most of the goodies). Unfortunately, once again it's really boring.
Driving is another important activity but it never "feels" right, and anyway there's a reason we use steering wheels and not joypads on real cars. For me, this part of the game is just an annoyance.
Coming from the masterpiece that was Assassin's Creed Origins, with its refined combat and stealth mechanics, I can't help but feel that the Watch Dogs IP should be either completely reinvented or simply dropped.

Well, it's okay, you can get used to it. The moment due to which the second part becomes **** - stealth mechanics. They just don't work. What's the point of playing at all? This is a game about hackers, I have to do everything quietly, and not take a pissed machine gun with a grenade launcher and fall into the base, this is stinking nonsense! I officially wish Ubisoft game designers to crap! If the developers stupidly copied half of the game, including animations, sounds, a **** car, broken PvP mechanics, weapons, what was the problem with transferring the only game mechanic that worked well - stealth? The only reason I give this game a 4 is because of the soundtrack and the setting. Expand

Before we talk about gameplay, let's talk about technical issues. If you have a PS4 Fat or PS4 Slim l, save your money because this game has a lot of Screen Tearing, you can't drive a car fast like GTA V because there will be a lot of Screen Tearing happening in many places, for example in the middle of San Francisco in buildings with a garden on the roof.

"Does Screen Tearing happen while walking?" The answer is yes, for example at Nudies place, when you want to see the view, turn your camera and Boom Screen Tearing occurs. It's a shame considering the world is so beautiful.

Save your money but if you are curious and still want to buy, I suggest waiting for a discount like I did for 7$ in my country (Indonesia). For the best choice, buy XB Series S or Series X because there you will get a Booster until the game runs smoothly at 60fps. It's a shame that PS5 can't play this game at 60fps instead of 30 fps (Series S can be 60fps with specifications below PS5).

If Sony doesn't repent, we can already see the winner of the next "specs" niche console battle

Completely uninspired artwork featuring most of the same rinse, wash, repeat gimmicks from the first game (similar to the yearly installments of the Assassin's Creed series). The game's style almost feels like it's mocking and laughing at the hip, trendy, holier-than-though populous of SF.
I guess it appeals for the young "I-hate-my-parents" kids out there who want to rebel. Definitely selling.

Watch Dogs 2 is repetitive and boring, but an absolute improvement on the original Watch Dogs. For such a good idea, however, Ubisoft seems to miss what exactly is so great about it. In my opinion what makes the idea of a hacking vigilante appealing is the idea that the player doesn't need guns because the environment is their weapon. Watch Dogs 1 missed the opportunity to do somethingWatch Dogs 2 is repetitive and boring, but an absolute improvement on the original Watch Dogs. For such a good idea, however, Ubisoft seems to miss what exactly is so great about it. In my opinion what makes the idea of a hacking vigilante appealing is the idea that the player doesn't need guns because the environment is their weapon. Watch Dogs 1 missed the opportunity to do something truly special the moment it decided to include guns, and Watch Dogs 2 is not much better in this regard. The story, on the other hand, is clearly improved from the original. In my opinion, a major positive is the fact that they chose to focus on crafting more lighthearted characters and themes, so they used the cheesy, dialogue to their advantage while crafting the story. The nonlinear missions allow for a more unique approach to the story, yet it negatively effects the pacing, and does not work nearly as well as if they allowed the entire story to be avoidable and blocked the final mission with a skill barrier rather than an arbitrary number of followers. That would have undoubtedly been the optimal way to experience Watch Dogs 2, because every mission in the game is extremely similar to the one before it. Very few use unique mechanics or structure to distinguish themselves, instead they use songs to set a tone. It's an interesting idea because it gives each mission a unique style, but it can't mask how repetitive the format of the mission is. Most of the missions essentially amount to sneaking around an area, pressing a button, and waiting for a progress bar. As a result, the main story got old extremely quickly, and because there was very little structure to the level progression, nothing feels like it's changed from the beginning of the game to the end. Even the final mission hardly changes the formula. It simply puts the player in a different environment that functions and effects the player in exactly the same way as all other environments. It can be fun to arrest the gang members or order a hit on security guards and sneak past while the mayhem is unfolding, however this can be easily exploited to remove every enemy from the mission. As a result, many missions can be cleared with very little challenge. The only other aspect of the game is the overworld, which is in essence there to put to put space in between the missions and pad the game out. There is nothing organic to find in the world, and no purpose to exploring. The only reward for looking through the city is money, which can be obtained from any person walking down the street. I can understand the appeal that this game has, but it has very little of what I look for in an open-world game, so I'm going to give this game a 3 out of 10. Expand

I wasn't happy with the first game and this one didn't make any better impression. Actually, it felt worse. The main reason is an average (if it is even average) story and emotionless side missions like "go there and do that 10 times in a row". I quit it after few hours of playing.

Open World is still imitated and not alive. No ragdoll, no physics, no random NPC behavior, no such sandbox. I'm not saying you should make complete GTA clone or even Bethesda's Open World TES of Fallout but if you create open world - it must be sandboxic and with nice physics for interesting free roam in 2016...

There's no such sandbox in Open World but cheap imitation of life in scripts and sprites which makes free-roam very boring. A lot of scripted NPC's with different movements but still unfree and so dead. Why can't you get that they need freedom and intellect, like in GTA.

Gameplay is still scripted and way to casual. And when I say casual i'm not saying it's just easy to complete. Casual is gameplay itself. There's lack of inner mechanics. No such manual parkour but sctript that works by just holding one button. No combat system and lack opportunity to decide what to do with enemy(grab, stun, punish) but just take it down with yo-yo-script turned on by pressing single button.

Tapping hacks is okay but press X to parkour and press X to take down - is just boring.

Game lacks other activities, like kind of business, micro-economic model, may even deweloping our own webs of infrastuctures etc. Yes, I do understand, maybe it's not about your vision of Marcus but you could make special ingame mechanics of different side activity).

That's all yet. The biggest problem is with gameplay and Open World.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. First of: The tutorial of the game is almost non excistent. they dont show you the basics except for taking cover. FAAAAAAANTASTIC for your everyday hacking skills.

Second: The Free roaming is absolutly one of the most boring things ived ever come across.
the car chases is not thrilling or exciting in any way.

Third( and this might just be me, but): the steering of vehicles are "fat" and "clunky". and when you drive into stuff (on a motorcycle fx.) you dont fall off. not even remotely realistic in any way, what so ever.

Forth: ffs ubisoft, let us skip the **** cut scenes if we want to !!

Fifth: npc's are zombies, no ragdoll physics, and everybody you steal money from have between 40-60 dollars ??? are people in san fransico broke or something?

although the graphics actually do look good, and the whole concept of hacking into the government is great.

but the execussion of the idea, not so much!!

the game deserves a solid 1. not only because its not finished but also because there is no difference from the first game. right now they are just milking the franchise instead of coming out with new and improved game that you should feel excited about.

    Step it up Ubisoft.
