An improvement over the original, but that isn't saying much. It has been given a hipster coat of paint and has the most dumbed down laughable vehicle physics I have seen in a game in a long time. There's some fun to be had here, but don't expect GTA levels of polish. Worth picking up cheap or at a discount.

It's good but its no GTA. I've played less than 10 hours of it but I can already see repetition emerging and I'm wondering if I'll bother finishing missions like the graffiti one. Another issue is the driving, its far too forgiving, you can crash a motorbike into a truck on the highway and stay on the bike, it takes a lot of effort to actually fall off the thing.

I quite like the story so far and the main characters seem well written at this point. The missions seem to be the problem, there doesn't seem to be a whole lot of depth. Even the missions that have a bit of puzzle solving to them are kind of easy and repetitive. In some cases it seems like a telltale games type story where you just have to press a button and watch the cut scene. It seems to be lacking a sense that the gamer is capable of performing complex tasks and it takes that away from you by getting you to press triangle and the system performs the action.

There is plenty of novelty value in the game and the knight rider inspired mission was a really good set piece if a little uncomplicated. San Francisco looks great and its fun to explore, you do get a sense of scale without it taking ages to get from A-to-B. The police seem a bit oblivious, I saw a guy was being pulled over on his bike, I took the bike and no one chased me even though there were about 3 or 4 police cars around.

There is one final thing that bugs me, the cars you steal disappear! I parked up went in a went through a cut scene came back out and the car was gone. This has happened many times and is really annoying when you have to spend the next couple of minutes trying to hijack another vehicle.

As its early in the game there is a chance the missions will get more difficult but I'm not sure. Overall I like the game but if I didn't have it I'd certainly wait till it comes down in the sales. I have a feeling it might fall in price quickly.

Completely uninspired artwork featuring most of the same rinse, wash, repeat gimmicks from the first game (similar to the yearly installments of the Assassin's Creed series). The game's style almost feels like it's mocking and laughing at the hip, trendy, holier-than-though populous of SF.
I guess it appeals for the young "I-hate-my-parents" kids out there who want to rebel. Definitely selling.

typical Ubisoft release with multiplayer already down from day one, you'd think with past trash releases they'd get it right this time, the game is solid with a nice open world and plenty of stuff to do but seems to be stuck in second gear, it never becomes just 5 more mintues.

I got this game early after pre-ordering (like 5 days early....) and while it's definitely an improvement from Watch Dogs 1, its definitely not perfect. The other reviews barely touch on the main issues of the game, they only give it the rating with out really going into why (ugh).

You CAN play the game in lethal mod, but its honestly way too easy when I tried it. If i did, I think I'd have a different take on it. As far as I can see, there's no real consequences from playing stealth vs non-stealth. I'm not entirely finished the game as I am trying to go through all the sidequests, but the more I play it, the more I become bored, but at the same time the more I want to explore.

    Things I love:
    - The premise and setting of the game. It's very much targeted towards up and coming tech, like being able to 3D print weapons, having control of a drone and RC jumper in missions which is so cool to use. The city is beautiful and feels so alive.

    - The availability of weapons and ways to play through the missions. It IS in fact possible to do the majority of missions with out even stepping into the danger zone and you have a huge arsenal at your disposal.

    - The references in the plot to our tech culture and pop culture references, like taking revenge on WD2 version of Martin Shrikelli, Silicon Valley references, and so on.

    - Its harder. They've centralized hacking to be more puzzle like, and then made the puzzles are harder. Collecting and finding things are harder. It's actually a challenge, whereas in WD1 its "go rambo mode, press a button here, complete mission." I think the game is only a challenge if you go stealth.

    Things I dont love:

    - Some of the side-mission plots, or hell even some of the main plots don't make a whole lot of sense. Some mission are really fun and run parallel to our world (like say, having a Scientology-like church exist) and are really satisfying to do, but others are questionable and its like "why is this hacker group doing this again?"

    - There are STILL "go to this point here, collect this thing" kind of stuff. No more of Ubisofts "do this to reveal section of the map" but ugh. Some of it is hidden as well, where you have to take a picture of the landmark. In some ways its cool as in "oh hey cool look at this SF landmark they put into the game" but when you're in a car chase or you accidentally drive by it, now its like "ugh I have to find a way back here somehow to collect this thingy".

    Bit of Both:
    - No consequences from playing stealth vs non-stealth. No changes in plot, no changes in XP ("followers") amount. You can play either or style. In some ways this is good because it really gives you the freedom to really do whatever you want. But considering how freaking overpowered you get, non-stealth would be super easy mode.

    - Most of the missions are all essentially the same. Get into building - hack the things - get out. It gets extremely repetitive. Main mission and side missions are all the same thing.

So, I DID get it during amazons E3 sale, so I didn't buy it at full price. While I didn't regret my purchase, I would probably be more upset if this had costed me more.

Watch Dogs 2|A generic Ubisoft Open World title

I went into this game with rather high expectations, as someone who had seen series and movies all about the "hacker" theme and trope that is touched on in Watch Dogs 2, I expected a Story line well enacted and staged with high-speed chases, open setpieces and proper cinematography.
The potential of the game is so vast, it could have picked up on so many scenes in the series "Person of interest" it could have told a engaging but still humorous narrative.

Unfortunately, Ubisoft handled this game just as they handle all their other games, terrible.

No engaging narrative, just a mere stringing together of very bad "hacker" jokes and quips.
Compared to competitors like Grand Theft Auto, the narrative is more than just weak, it feels like people badly out of touch with the theme of the game wrote it and tried to force humour in.
Marcus Holoway is literally nothing more than a hipster, and everytime he talks to his comrades it feels like pre-teenagers are having a really awkward conversation.

However, while the narrative is important, many can give a badly written narrative a pass if the core of the game, the gameplay and level design is good.
To my discomfort, it is not. It is the average Ubisoft "sandbox" design slapped onto yet another "new" game and it feels and plays just as all the other Ubisoft games. It lacks proper cinematography, it lacks in new gameplay featues designed specificly for missions, it lacks substance. Essentially every single mission in this game feels and plays the same, the only difference being new hacking upgrades that you unlock over the course of playing the game.
This type of lazy and repetetive mission design has, unfortunately, become a hallmark of Ubisoft games and I honestly and sincerely hope it stops.

Apart from that, the world in itself, San Francisco, looks and feels beatifull and fitting. NPCs do not feel as alive in, for example a Grand Theft Auto, but the cities look populated and you have certain cool things making them feel alive, such as a man smashing up the car of this ex-girlfriend.
Only thing that boggles me about the Open World design is that still, after 2 console generations the game relies on loading screens between side missions and main missions. This is a big immersion and game flow breaker, especially considering that main competitors have handles this better on PS3 and XBOX 360 devices allready.

For those wondering why I compare the game so extensively with the GTA Series, it's simple, the games marketing was aimed at providing a competition to the open world and GTA series, some of the games Trailers are almost copies of their Rockstar counterparts, for example you can compare the Watch Dogs 2 Online Trailer to the GTA Online Trailer, both feature almost the same wording and sentence structure.

As such, with such a high competition and such an un-innovative entry into the huge and evolving Open World genre(yet again). I can only give 5/10.
The score would be way higher if this was Ubisofts first open world game playing like this, and with this problems, but after all the years and about 10+ Open World games later, they still recycle parts of the same animation sets, the same gameplay mechanics and the same mission design that was present in their games since Far Cry 3.
    A disgrace and disappointment.

Watch Dogs 2 takes place in sanfransico this time and You play as Marcus Holloway who joins a group of hacktivists to take down a corrupted security corporation named blume that uses ctos technology…
So you set out to expose them
And how do you do this?
By gaining followers and sending out videos with information you acquire as you go throughout the game…
The story sounds silly, but that’s because it kind of is… It doesn’t have the serious tone the original had... You feel much more like hacker kids doing hacker kid stuff…
Using your skills for the betterment of the world
and every character here has personality, from your hacker group to the characters you run into…
The villain here has a man bun does yoga, making you hate him instantly…
The entire game screams san fransisco and it really brings the city to life...
People call you names... talk about their diets… you’ll see people arguing with each other… taking a bat to their no good exes car, the world in watch dogs 2 if so fun to explore, and thankfully there’s a lot to do here…
You’re rewarded for gaining followers with research points that you can spend in your skill tree to balance your character to your play style, and to gain followers you can go out and take selfies in front of crazy people, monuments, and buildings… you can go out and race karts and boats, do time trials with dirt bikes or a drone, do side quests or mess with people online…
Watch_Dogs 2 features seamless multiplayer where you’ll randomly run into people in your world that you can team up with, or run over for being a jerk when they deny your team up request…
And you’ll occasionally get the option to go intervene in an ongoing chase with the bounty hunter mode…
These moments can create random chaos in the world and it’s a nice addition
Hacking invasion is back where you can enter a world or someone can enter yours to steal information, and you have to stay hidden or kill whoever is hacking you, but with the added tools and hacking options this time makes things even trickier… and there are also co-op missions that can be played with a friend or on your own… multiplayers not my thing, but it’s there…
And there’s actual use from the money you get from tasks or for selling good at a pawn shop this time as you can buy insanely expensive weapons from your 3d printer at headquarters, or buy cars from a dealership to call using your car on demand app.. Which you’ll want to do before you’re able to hack inside of a car and go… The citizens calling for cops aren’t as annoying as they were in the original watch dogs... but they can still be pretty annoying…
And a cop chase or a chase in general isn’t really something you want to get involved in as the hacking in watchdogs 2 got much more complicated and opportunities seem to have almost nearly evaporated…
Chases used to thrilling, but here I hardly ever crashed a cop car chasing me as again opportunities seem to hardly exist, and when one does appear the indication and windows of opportunity is far smaller, really hurting what I felt was a near perfect chase system, taking away all of the fun…
This evaporation of opportunities can be seen throughout missions as well…
Watch_Dogs 2 for better or for worse feels like a completely different game than Watch_Dogs 1
The developers scrapped the idea of camera hopping for a jumper and a drone…
Clearly a much less stealthier approach and of course creates way more opportunities to get detected...
Watch_Dogs 2 seems to be more about punishment than mayhem this time around...
I never really felt like levels were designed with the hacking in mind. Sure there are tons of hackable items... but these items are for the most part a nuisance for you as a player to deal with like security systems and robots rather than opportunities to take advantage of...
Id occasionally get an enemy to line up with a car to remotely run them over, but moments like these were far too rare….
Most of the time forcing me to have to physically enter restricted zones when I could do everything from the sidewalk with little to no risk in the original…
But they for some reason want you to physically stealth around to try and trick you to getting into a gun fight…. When the whole premise of the game was hacking the world around you…
And now it’s mostly turn off the security around you to proceed or else…
The game throws far too many hurdles at you stopping hacking from being a satisfying and fun option to turning it into a chore.
And when you do get detected it’s no fun at all as the gun play feels bad, the combat is slow and leaves you vulnerable for too long and enemies constantly call for back up… and they do so insanely fast, so the waves of enemies and cops never stop.. they’re going to kill you because you slipped up…
You can take them out by attracting them to electrical boxes… or setting traps for them to walk into, and you can set a police or gang hit on them which could potentially have them do all of the heavy work for you… which I actually had a lot of fun with
And the missions are all still great despite this nuisance emphasis…
Every last one feels unique and challenging, there’s so much charm to this story and mission design…
The campaign feels hand crafted rather than formulaic and is now a standard I will judge other open world games of its type by…
Stuff gets crazy, and it’s a blast throughout...
And occasionally in these missions you’ll run into some pipe mazes
they’re back, this time in the environment rather than being just a black screen with lines...
Things can get a little award at times with angles, but I grew to love running around areas or camera hopping trying to align everything….
Watch_Dogs 2 is the perfect example of what can be accomplished with love and care by a development team. Of what happens when you listen to feedback
The gameplay isn’t perfect, but the overall package is pretty close and is miles better than an already great game in the original…
    I give Watch_Dogs 2
    a 9/10

The open world is a lot improved, it doesn't feel so dead as WD1 because now there are people doing activities like Yoga, dancing, etc, you can hack and see their messages and interact with them but it also doesn't have too many activities to do, so it isn't a perfect open world it is. The game still has the same bad physics at driving but that isn't an issue for me, I even had fun laughing at how bad it is. The missions have the same approach as WD1, you can do the mission in 3 different ways: Rambo Style, stealth mode or just hacking with your drone. Aside from hacking the 2 first options are fun and I had fun.

But what really disappointed me is the story. For me, it is 2/10. It is completely forgettable and it is really bad. It is basically a bunch of guys trying to stop a Silicon Valley villain that simply doesn't expire fear at all. And the worst part, they discarded completely Aiden Pierce that was a good character.

The graphics are similar to Watch Dogs 1. They are good but aren't top tier.

A gaming experience that just screams "FRESH'. Every aspect of W_D2 is just fresh, the amazing San Fran setting, the music, the characters, the fun, quirky story - everything feels like it was made with care and joy. Marcus is a massive upgrade from Aiden and the overall direction the series has decided to take shows that, when handled well, the Watch Dogs serioes can be a great one.

Watch dogs 2 is cool, killing enemies with hacking is all fun, but I felt like this is one boring ass game. It's really repetitive, weak characters, driving physics are broken, empty open world. The game is 20 hours long. The whole 20 hours you're doing the same main mission. And the level design sucks. It's really boring

The story is really corny and cheesy, which is a recurring trend in the entire watchdogs series. One character death doesn’t matter, and this character was pretty close to the main character. Wd2 improve the first installment in every aspect. The game progression is really nice and being able to use the Drone and the RC is a bit like having 3 character to play with. The game is way more colorful and I do enjoyed the new tone. The humour can sometime be a bit cringy, but the overall character are fun to watch

There is LOTS of humor in this game, but still some serious moments where it is appropriately leveled out. Tons of really fun and interesting missions, with a huge array of side content, so there's never really a dull moment during the gameplay experience. Not only that, but the variety of the missions are great as well. The game never felt boring or repetitive the entire time I was playing it. The game being set in San Francisco adds much more excitement with all the cool scenery. The game includes tons of upbeat music and even some cool interactions between civilians on the street. The story was amazing, with the right pacing and tone. It didn't feel rushed at the end like some games do. I also love the fact that you have a remote control car and drone to use. You can use these items to mark enemies, go through vents to get to areas you wouldn't be able to access normally, and even use them to hack certain items. There are so many cool details in this game, it's hard to name them all here. Overall, Ubisoft did a really amazing job with this one, and I couldn't of had more fun playing it. Expand

If I had to describe it in one word this game is just "meh" which is disappointing because as a franchise Watch Dogs has a lot of potential. If I had to describe it in one word this game is just "meh" which is disappointing because as a franchise Watch Dogs has a lot of potential. I never played the first game and had no expectations going into this one, but I had imaged a dark cyberpunk style underworld - not the contrived and stereotyped cheese-fest that Ubisoft (inevitably) opted for.

It's the first game that's actually made me consider whether I'm too old for gaming... they are clearly targeting a younger generation with this title so I'm probably not qualified to comment on whether they got the art style right - but judging by the number of complaints and "hipster" labels, Ubisoft are alienating a large chunk of their player base.

It's not a bad game per se, there are a lot of neat ideas though that's all it is - a collection of neat ideas with no real depth. Gameplay wise the missions play out like mini-games, once you figure out that you want to avoid direct combat but the stealth mechanic is broken* the "strategy" becomes very simplistic and repetitive.

    * by broken, I am referring to the fact that once triggered the enemy always know where you are - I guess it's one way to avoid having to implement AI. You can still complete an objective with a full-on assault but it's hit or miss. It feels like guns in general only exist so the game ticks a feature checkbox.

Most zones can be infiltrated entirely with your drones which is fun, they put a lot of emphasis on this tactic - but equally when you start to tire of it, you'll realise it's quicker just to run around using distraction hacks. Be it on a nearby object or the NPCs themselves, you can sprint straight up behind them and melee them which puts them down permanently - what passes for AI is just basic line of sight. It's the first tactic open to you and will probably be how you complete the end game.

The skill-tree is a bit of a gimmick - it's either just another feature checkbox ticked or a kind of extended tutorial to introduce you to the tools gradually - all of which can be unlocked quickly which defeats the point a skill tree. Besides the two drones, I found that I also never really used the majority of the unlocks either. They look good in videos and screenshots but in the heat of the moment they're just not that effective.

The side quests are hardly worth mentioning - in typical Ubisoft fashion there are the generic races and pointless collectibles to pad out the world. Thankfully you can fast-travel everywhere - not only have I stopped bothering with these, as noted by virtually every other review the driving physics are atrocious.

The story? Horribly cliche, boring and forgettable characters. Enough said.

Overall, I'd say this is one of those games to get if you're already bored to start with.

Announced back in June a week before E3, Ubisoft showed many videos on what the team did to improve the gameplay and the game mechanics in an attempt to earn the public’s trust back when it came to the Watch Dogs brand. Does Watch Dogs 2 become the Microsoft of the tech world, or does it remain a start-up company never becoming big enough to get out of the garage?
Story: Watch Dogs 2 takes place in San Francisco and its surrounding area. You play as Marcus Holloway a hacker originally from Oakland who resides in San Francisco. At the start of the game, you begin by going through a trial in order to join the Deadsec hacker group. Deadsec's goal is to become the biggest hacker group out there, by exposing the truth about big tech companies as they take the data you enter from your emails, to tracking you in your everyday life. Putting a stop to that will get you followers, but your big target is Blume a company run by a Steve Jobs wannabe "Dušan Nemec", who turns out to be very crooked with having all these companies in his pocket from politics to human trafficking. So its "Dušan Nemec" and Blume you want to take out and give the people their freedom back.
Gameplay: Watch Dogs 2 is a third person sandbox game. You explore the wonderful and very different area of San Francisco. Players get to experiences how techy San Francisco is in some of the missions, from hacking a camera to exploding a gas tank to kill one of your enemies. You have more gadgets in your arsenal rather than just a phone this time around; a remote RC jumper and a drone are at your disposal. The drone and jumper will help you during infiltration missions when you don't want to be caught and go into combat. You can also sneak into places by taking out your enemies silently with a yo-yo, or go in guns’ blazing, which feels out of place in this game. I really feel Marcus should hack his way through everything. As you complete missions you gain followers, allowing for upgrades like vehicle hacking, combat skills, and RC and drone upgrades. This game is not just about the combat, it has some great puzzles to solve which at times can feel pressured because of a timer, but feels great when you accomplish them.
Graphics: The graphics in this game are well mixed; the character models and cars look fantastic, as does the scenery and main building structures. But it's the NPC's and environments that look like they belong on the PS3 and Xbox 360.
Verdict: Watch Dogs 2 is a game that fixes almost all of the problems from the previous installment. It is a fun open world game, with great dynamic characters, great writing, and much better gameplay mechanics; it is definitely worth the pickup.

I find the game boring and jarring. The main story and side missions are all the same, infiltrate, one button hack stuff then leave. The characters and story bored me that I ended up just skipping some cut scenes to move things along faster.
The jarring part is the gameplay. I found it less frustrating once I got some over powered weapons from these heavy armored enemies (always melee these guys) to just go guns blazing on missions. The enemy AI seems to go into stupid mode when you kill everything, compared to going stealth and they are super sensitive. This what makes it jarring. A nice hacker hipster social justice guy going around murdering 100s of people.
The trophy set is pretty bad but good if you want an easy platinum. Even the trophies are boring like buy this certain pair of shoes to unlock.
Ubisoft is really losing their touch. Assassins Creed Syndicate , Far Cry Primal, The Division and now Watch_Dogs 2 have all been average games for me.

Yes, sometimes it could be cheesy and kinda stupid (well DUH, it's about hipster-hackers going against the big tech Corporations and such), but it's actually ends so well and the build up is enjoyable. Plus some nerdy/geeky dialogues, like who is better - Alien or Predator and such. =)

    Cons:
1)You play as the antisocial hipster-hacker (or as they call themselves) hackivist group, which are sometimes so naive...oh GOD, SO NAIVE!
2)Most of the latest missions had to be done (for me at least) with drone + bombs upgrade, because going all guns blazing mostly suicide and man, there is a **** of people you will be either killing or knocking out, considering that you are barely past your 18-20?
3)99.9% missions will be done by the main hero - Marcus, which is odd, when your buddies are always going around about the whole internet brotherhood, Dedsec name and such. It goes like this: Marcus, we found where is the X enemy is hiding and we need you to hack all the data and stealing some info. Translation - Marcus, we will be talking with you over the radio while you kill bunch of guys, kill more guys, when they will call for the help and then congratulate us on the job well done!

TL;DR When i started playing this game i saw there almost a solid 7/10 and nothing more, but as i slowly played my way through, doing some side missions, encountering other players online, finish storyline i knew that i cant give nothing less than 8/10.

I'm flexible and will easily adapt/forgive/dismiss these disparities in order to enjoy all the great stuff this game has to offer. Side missions and races make this game a diverse pleasure, when the main plot is not exactly earth moving. Ubisoft has really mastered this type of open world game, literally cramming the space with living, breathing detail....and it'll be fun watching them and Rockstar trying to 1UP each other in this regard over the years to come (who's looking forward to RDR2, raise your hand! :) ) Expand

Sure, it was plenty flawed, but the overall experience was quite fun and also promising for future installments. Turns out, that promising feeling paid off. Watch Dogs 2 is an undeniably great sequel that improves upon the original in basically every way. I had TONS of fun with it.

    Good Vibes
Watch Dogs's story was a dark tale of revenge and criminal corruption. As a story, it was decent. WD2 trades in that drab feeling for a more upbeat, excited story AND tone. The basic story here is that corruption in the system is at an all-time high. All these new policies, companies, and such are manipulating people and their lives to the max. DedSec is the hacker group the people need, and Marcus, the protagonist, is the go-getter and the one to accomplish the objectives in the city. While you never find out anything about Marcus besides his personality, he is incredibly likable. The other characters are pretty cool, too, but they won't strike you as particularly memorable. I was delighted as to the fact that T-Bone is back in this game, though. The camaraderie among DedSec is usually enjoyable and funny. I'd say my biggest flaw with the story is that all the scandals and conspiracies you uncover all mix together and never feel distinct. In fact, after awhile, I didn't really care about the extra details because I knew it would just boil down to "IT'S CORRUPTING THE PEOPLE, STOP IT!". Plus, the overall tone and personality of DedSec doesn't completely feel noble or "for the people". They also tend to do quite a bit of damage (it's worth noting that I'm not talking about all the mayhem you can cause as Marcus, that would not be fair to state as a flaw). Overall, the story is an improvement over the first but certainly not the biggest.

Why Wasn't It Like This Before?
Now, this is a BIG improvement and source of quality for this game: action gameplay. WD2 is still primarily a stealth-action game, but there is now a good deal of options as to how you can accomplish objectives in your infiltrations in restricted areas. There are much more gadgets and neat hacking abilities to use this time around. Hacking itself feels dynamic now! The on-the-ground stealth feels good, too, but I wouldn't call it great. To elaborate more on that, cover mechanics can be a bit unreliable, and there will be plenty of bullsh*t moments you'll come across (for example, I was gathering an item where I was not in control of my character. all of a sudden, the big garage door next to me, which the enemy can almost NEVER open, opens. i was immediately detected). Both the stealth and gunplay are somewhat hardcore. You can be detected quite easily, and you barely have any health at all. Did that bug me? Yes. However, the action never seizes to feel satisfying and fun, no matter how you play.

    New Travels
Quite possibly my favorite thing about WD2 is its city, modeled after San Francisco. There's countless variety to it and an amazing supply of incredible sights. The personality of the city itself also fits the game very well. The city does feel alive, too, although I will admit that it doesn't feel as real as something like GTA 5. There's also quite a bit of activities that highlight just how great the in-game city is, which I'll touch on later. Hands down, this is one of the best maps Ubisoft has crafted, if not the absolute best.

    Get Out There
WD2 also packs in it a wealth of content. There's Uber driving, questing for selfies in front of landmarks, races, collecting of money and other extras, and side missions. It's most definitely worth mentioning that the side missions feel nearly as well-crafted as the actual story missions, which is saying something. The in-game economy is also here, too, but I was disappointed to see that all you can really buy is weapons, clothing, cars, and paint jobs. The cars and paint jobs are worthless, though. That being said, the clothing options you have here are vast, and I loved spicing up my wardrobe. Driving feels good, too. I loved just how destructible some of the environment is when I was blazing through with my ride. WD2 is definitely more combat-focused than the first, but there is still a good deal of variety within its gameplay. There are puzzles with hacking and traversing the environment. Those are enjoyable, and the new parkour system is great. It will most definitely entertain you. The progression system here also is quite neat and makes an impact on gameplay. Overall, I loved the open-world of WD2.

    Verdict
I think it's time for the haters of Watch Dogs to come out and admit this is a great game. I'm glad to see Ubisoft making some gradual changes here for the better (well, aside from another game called The Division). How can we congratulate them? Go out and buy this game!

Bought 1 month after release so my review ignores the early bugs. Better game than the previous one, you never know when Ubisoft will disappoint you, but I have to admit I'm having a lot of fun with Watch Dogs 2.

Yes, the driving is not Gran Turismo worthy, yes the damage physics are not Wreckfest worthy, yes it may seem a bit cliché to some "real hackers", but I think it is voluntary.

Lots of humour, for once I'm liking the main character and the "crew". If you don't take this game seriously and if you understand this is a satire, you'll have a lot of fun too.
Immerive open world, I literally spent 6 hours playing around with the open world, without even having the jumper and before reaching the HQ
The multiplayer is working well as I'm speaking, even sometimes with no loading screen between solo and multi, which I have to say is really really nice. You can simply carry on driving and press one button to target a player online instead of the current thing you were doing, without changing car, simply amazing.

I see in the negative comments that it had a bad launch, but if people are stupid enough to carry on playing when the game has issues in the first days, that's not my problem. I see that some Trump supporters are spamming the 0/10 because they made fun of their daddy in the game. I even suspect them to be angry because they have to play a black guy meeting a transgenre and surrounded by hipsters. If you're not a total medieval **** you are safe, play that game, it's fun !

+ Different play styles are viable. I had a blast hacking my way through everything but shooting and stealth are definitely doable too.

    - Money doesn't do anything except buy weapons and cosmetics but the weapons you pick up off dead enemies are generally good enough.
    - Hacking and tech makes it too easy but then again you don't have to play that way

I haven't played Watch Dogs before, and minus a couple of inside jokes that flew over my head,(i.e Raymond and Aidan), I felt like this game was very welcoming and good for people unfamiliar to the series. I have already put many hours into this game and I still have plenty of things to mess around with.

The level of detail on this game can not be put into words. Every nook and cranny that I peeked into was detailed and beautiful! The world that Ubisoft has created truly feels alive and is brimming with character. There is a decent amount of content, and the dynamic between the characters is great at every moment.

Now, the game isn't perfect, but i'm still giving it a 10. To start things off, Marcus seems to fit in way too quickly. Day one, he's already everyone's best friend just for completing initiation. But the cheery vibe is nothing to complain about. Another thing that I don't enjoy is the obsession with roofs.I like a puzzle, but having every single mission in the game on a roof is ridiculous (i'm exaggerating). Traffic is a bit annoying as well. Since you can interact with the world via r/c, doing things from your car is very tempting. But if you do it in the middle of the road, pile-ups are bound to occur and a symphony of honking commences.

When it comes to weapons, the game is good and bad. Good in the sense that It has a good selection to choose from and you always have a gun that caters to your play style. Bad in the sense that there are a lot of guns that don't need to be there, like the base semi auto rifle. Why would you use it when you have a DMR, which is more accurate, shoots just as fast, has a scope, and hits harder? Or maybe a fully automatic rifle?

There is a fine selection of vehicles, but maybe not enough supercars or vehicles that go unbelievably fast. The driving physics are amazing. You always feel in control, and pulling the handbrake and powersliding around corners is easy and is the best feeling you can have during your ride. The game is forgiving when it comes to things like hitting pedestrians and other cars. If you hit a parked car with your fender, you will usually just slide around it. Offroading can be a bit frustrating with your car flying around in a bunch of varyingt directions the second you get air. Also, I would rather ride a bent unicycle with no seat in oncoming traffic before I touch a Quad Bike in this game. They are good in straight lines, but long corners and small jumps obliterate any sense of control in that thing.

Stealth in this game is great, but not perfect. When it comes to the bare sneaking around, it's great. There are plenty of angles and ways to get around. Taking people down with a bit of paracord and a cue ball is very satisfying. The Stun gun is god tier and should not be taken lightly. Detection is pretty forgiving and depends on range, so you won't encounter bs like a random guard 100 meters behind you that you couldn't calculate on finding you. Upon getting detected, the game kind of confuses me. If I am driving along in a go kart and ramp into a restricted area by mistake, I shouldn't get a heavy dose of lead and shrapnel from San Francisco's most sketchy security force. And on top of that, they are a bit grenade happy.

Combat is solid, and the aim assist is the best i've ever seem

i accept that Ubisoft wanted to go for a game that you can approach from any angle, but having no penalty from killing people just seems a bit odd. That implies that every single person that follows Dedsec is perfectly fine with mass murderers with fancy smartphones killing everyone in their path just to prove a weak point.

The actual story, I like. I play games not to read into them, but to just enjoy.

Personally, I don't like the multiplayer aspect because it seems like too much of a hassle. The game is well -rounded without people trying to steal my data that I don't care about. Luckily, there was an option to turn it off. Having online missions crowd my other missions is annoying though. I don't like open world multiplayer, at least not in the way anyone has implemented it yet. Especially GTA Online.

Speaking of GTA online, people try to compare WD2 to GTA5 a lot, and with good reason. GTA's world is massive, diverse, lively, and has a lot of character in it. WD2's world is compact, mainly industrial, Very lively, and is detailed to an obsessive degree. In the debate of GTA and WD2, I side with Watch Dogs 2 on every front.

I would recommend this game to everyone who enjoys open world games, stealth, and a good laugh. This is definitely my favorite game on PS4, maybe except for Rainbow Six Siege. When you work hard, don't lie about everything, and apply some degree of polish, you can make some great and unique games Ubisoft!

Also, 5000 character limit hit perfectly

The parkour system is very well-done, though it still has its flaws. Movement is very fluid and instead of a standard walking, Marcus will jog at a brisk pace. The "hacking" mechanics are back from the first game, with the new ability to manipulate vehicles. Pipe puzzles are back, which can be an annoyance for some, but I enjoyed them for the most part. The story has a good length, and features topical issues which will hit home for many people. Famous tech companies are parodied, with Google as Nudle and Facebook as Invite, among others.

The story is the most inclusive I have ever seen in a video game. Every sexuality is represented, and every race. I felt Watch Dogs 2's locale was just as vibrant as the real San Francisco. The civilians in the world react to each other, and aren't robotic or static. The characters are all unique, with their eccentricities and quirks. The multiplayer is fun and engaging, but might not be enough for players to warrant revisiting the game. After completion, multiplayer is the only thing left, along with co-op specific missions, a PvP mode and a bounty hunter mode. Overall, the game exceeded my expectations.

Actually I might go as far as saying Watch Dogs 2 is one of the worst stories in the gaming world I've ever experienced.

I'm a big fan of the original Watch Dogs. The game is infamous due to having one of the most impressive and misleading pre-release trailers in history. Smooth pretty visuals and impressive weather and physics effects, but when the game released it was fps locked on pc, and had much more reduced weather and physics effects.
A lot of people were disappointed with the final product, however I played it despite this and ended up really liking the story and finding the game very fun.

So along comes a sequel, and I the protagonist form the original is gone. The story of the original is gone. In fact the only thing that carries over is "technology used by authoritarianism is bad", everything else is very watered down and poorly conveyed.

The plot of WD2 is one of the most boring and uninteresting plots of any game I've ever played. There's no cohesive narrative, just a series of half missions that somewhat link together.
Instead of a proper plot you just have an "app" on a "phone" where you have to find missions. This is the least engaging way of doing a story I've seen. the main goal of the game is to get 'followers' (urgh).

But the overall story being dull and fragmented isn't even the main issue with the game, the main characters are incredibly boring and unlikable. It's just a bunch of forgettable and uninteresting geeks that have absolutely no personalities or relationship with each other.
I couldn't get myself to care about any of the characters, there's no depth to any of them (unlike Aiden Pearce from the original) and any attempts of humor is extremely cringeworthy.

Additionally the main mission design is just tedious. 95% of the game is just the same thing over and over again: "Hack a device" and to do so, unlock doors, sneak to the device, hold triangle, then sneak out. That's pretty much it, there's barely any level variation in Watch Dogs 2. Which is a real shame as Watch Dogs 1 was much more varied, fun and interesting.

The only variation you might get on that is the 2 gadgets Marcus gets: a jumper (remote control car that jumps) and a quadcopter (drone). You have to save up to buy them, but once you buy them you realise most missions are actually designed to be completed using them. Every level has little ramps or doors for them to sneak though, and if they get detected and destroyed, they just respawn.
Without them Marcus has to try to sneak himself and if he gets seen he gets killed, enemies are countless and heavily armoured.

The only issue with these gadgets are: there's no variation, every level is the same, and all you do is the same repeated actions of sneaking around trying to reach the objective items to hack. And that many missions force Marcus to hack one item on the level so you end up having to sneak marcus in anyway negating anything you've done with the jumper or drone.

Occasionally you'll get a power puzzle, which is kind of like a pipe-mania minigame of linking fuses with electricity. After about 50 of these they start to get a little boring.

And that's pretty much it. The only variation I found was some remote control vans side missions and a couple of pretty unique final missions involving robots and satellites which were the only parts of the game I actually enjoyed.

WD2 focuses on stealth much more than WD1, which is fine, but then all the abilities are locked away and need a lot of grinding to unlock, so without those hack upgrades and gadget purchases you will find you struggle a fair bit to start with.

In the end I found myself trying to power through the story to get it over with just so that i could enjoy the sandbox of the world of San Francisco. And San Fran is great, exploring the world and finding side missions and unlockables is far more fun than the story. Once you find enough research points and schematics it means you can do almost everything via hacking and remote control. The game becomes far more interesting without being Marcus and just living in hackerspace. You can start arranging gang assassinations and forging evidence on people and arranging arrests on targets. Solving the puzzles, and hacking intel via camera, jumper and drone without needing to actually risk yourself by doing anything via the protagonist.

Although as mentioned above, sadly this still gets very repetitive, I wish there was SOME variation in this game.

The controls aren't the most intuitive in this game, and aren't really explained to you well. The main button to do everything is L1, but if you hold L1 you get to do different actions, but these actions are represented by the least clear icons I've seen, so you really have to memorize what everything is. I don't recall being so confused starting the original Watch Dogs.

A vast and meaningfully dense open world that is stylized will make for fun hours upon hours within the game. Drone and RC mechanics are used well in environmental puzzles but never heavily relied upon. Small details (Such as in the GTA series) are shockingly left out and filled with bizarre Ubisoft touches that don't seem to mesh with the world.

Characters are incredibly caricatured in a "Hack the planet" sort of way and are all incredibly likable. A commentary on Silicone valley, the story presents a highly satirized version of the tech culture in San Francisco but in a brand of Ubisoft humor that has finally found its feet and is far away from the GTA style of satire. Also the game represents the progressive nature of San Francisco at every location that there is NPC's so beware if you are conservative. Although the attacks on the right are surface level and fleshed out into their own stories so divorced from the base attacks later on (See Thruss in the game)

Multiplayer is fun to mess around with, especially during the end game but not fleshed out enough to ensure a rewarding system of play and progression. Season pass and cosmetic packs are unfortunately present.

Level designs are particularly well done with multiple approaches to completing objectives. Enemy AI is more sophisticated in spotting and tracking but suffers the usual Ubisoft enemy fodder when engaged in combat. Marcus's ability to take hits is reduced compared to other Ubisoft titles to try and artificially encourage a non-lethal approach but of course there is a whole upgrade branch dedicated to making him better with guns contradicting this.

Hacking puzzles are easily just moving your drone around and are use only as pacing tools for the flow of the missions. However the missions are incredibly paced and also a ton of fun to replay with new upgrades and different approaches. Environmental puzzles in the open world can be great fun little brain teasers that require scaling buildings, more hacking puzzles, using ramps and motorcycles, crane traversal between buildings but can also be tedious, requiring explosives or you to break the physics with fork and scissor lifts.

Overall a fun time is had in the open world, in missions, hanging out with the characters, exploring the satire hidden among you and petting the dogs around you. One of the best open world games on the current systems it is well worth a look.

The game does have some cool missions and characters and the invasion multiplayer mode can be a ton of fun. Overall I would recommend this game if you wanted something kind of similar to gtav with its own twist. Just don't expect it to be as polished and exhilarating as GTAV was the first time you played it. Expand

This game meets my expectation, and is a good example of sequels. New features such as drone are fun and have convinced me that this is what Watch Dogs should be. This is not a GTA game, but a hacking game.

Lets talk about friends, wrench looks odd but later in game you can see how deep feelings he has, sitara is really cool girl, and dont forget to mention t-bone. All character scripts are well written. I loved all missions, im not bored any of it. Even in gta5 i was bored, but watch dogs 2 doesnt have any repetetive missions. All missions are unique by its own way. I also enjoyed multiplayer, sometimes i lost myself in it. The sailboat races are my favorite, its a unique idea og racing, never saw something like that. Also enjoyed bike races, but quadcopter races are hard. Just buy it, this game will make u have great memories because it is unique :) Expand

I really liked playing Watch dogs 2 in San Francisco, away from the grim and gray Watch Dogs 1!

Driving was ok but it's still not the strongest point of the series. It does the job though nothing more.

It is a prime example that Ubisoft does listen and makes improvements for the betterment of their games. Watch Dogs 2 is the sophomore installment in the Watch Dogs series developed by Ubisoft. It follows the story of hacker Marcus Holloway and DedSec with returning character exposing corporations and groups for acts against humanity and liberties.

The gameplay is much better as there is way more capabilities that Marcus has to do in this game that makes the experience beautiful. You can plan missions easier and approach things in different ways. Combat is a huge improvement. Gathering altogether, the story stays involved everywhere you go as civilians are way more responsive. Driving system is a major improvement.

I like the vendetta story from the first installment but as this story evolves, it shows a major improvement where most users would enjoy a lot more. The characters are a lot less bland and more fun than the first game. The story is about taking down the man kind of just like Assassins Creed: Syndicate taking down sectors of their power one-by-one before the ultimate demise of the enemy. It is really refreshing and better for the series. The location is amazing with San Francisco, Oakland, Marin Island and Silicon Valley. Just an absolute perfect location for the series' concepts.

Design is undeniably beautiful with outstanding graphics and FPS with minor bugs. I do believe Ubisoft could have taken even more time to improve civilian design and some design aspects releasing this just like the trailer and demo they gave us. Not entirely delivering, but the game itself redeems this aspect.

To summarize, Ubisoft did a really good job on this one and once you get right into the story and ignore the minor bugs, you are in for a ride. This is definitely an improvement from the first installment but I do still believe Ubisoft should take 3 to 4 years to develop the next title as there is definitely an opening for the future. Watch Dogs has a more interesting future due to the greatness and redemption with this installment.

PROS: I bought the first Watch Dogs about 3 months before the release of the second and altogether thought it felt unfinished. I got bored pretty fast and was disappointed that I wasted money on it. The second ended up coming out and I did a lot of research on it, which I didn't do for the first game. I saw how good it looked, and decided to go for it. I was a bit wary about it when I started it. The tutorial was boring, and the characters extremely cheesy, but once you get into the solid gameplay its a fun game. Npc reactions are hilarious (They react to you when you take pictures of them, show your guns, and you can do a number of actions, such as flipping them off, dancing, and even flirting with them, male or female (yikes)) and the environments are (mostly) gorgeous. The map is pretty big and fun to explore.
CONS: The driving takes some getting used to, and I hate the fact that you can only carry two weapons at a time. If your'e looking to cause mass destruction like GTA 5, it is a bit harder to do in this game. Also, there are still no planes or helicopters you can drive around in. I can see how it would make the open world feel shorter, but it still would be nice to have. There are a few more smaller problems I have with the game but all in all its pretty solid. Definitely would recommend to anyone.

Is not a bad game but also a game, even so this game was able to create a good open world with many chances of hacking, without a doubt this second game of the franchise knew to do what the first could not.

    Great game 8/10

The jokes are terrible, the story is downright cringeworthy as it tries so hard to be "hip" and "edgy", as for the missions just buy GTA 5. They're better designed and fun. One of the first missions in this game is to steal a cybercar (i know) and escape the police. It's actually easy to do, but if anything happens to the car while you're out (you can't escape the police in the car; i mean they spawn on the roads in front of you.. it's enough to make Ghost Recon 2 blush) then it's a mission failure. The whole thing feels poorly thought out, don't worry there's a premium store for your real money, if anyone has ever bought anything from it, they should be tagged and helped by the government for their mental illness.

This is lazy open world development at it's worst, it's over cliched and the physics look designed by a 12 year old. The truck i drove, was 90% tipped over then righted itself. I'm not sure how that's possible.

This game is great for 12 year olds (although given the rating of the game, it makes you wonder). I'd rather have my teeth pulled out than have to play this

Despite a few flaws, Watch Dogs 2 delivers where the original game failed. The game has improved on every aspect and provides a vibrant city with lots of hacking fun. The story is dull without any special moments but the immersive open world with lots of quests will keep you entertained.

Watch Dogs 2 brilliantly solves the main issue the first game had while providing a world full of enjoyable missions. We faced some problems with the camera, especially during the car race. We also faced some issues with connectivity and online play. In the end, Watch Dogs 2 is a game that delivers in most aspects and provides hours of enjoyable content.

Despite the MP issues, Watch Dogs 2 hacks this series back on track with its gorgeous locales, and silly emergent fun. Marcus isn’t *quite* our cup of tea, but he sure beats the hell out of the last guy. [January 2016, p71]
