    This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. I would seriously rate this game higher if not for the horrible bugs. I played almost to the end (returning to Yuma speedway) and it is now frozen in the return cut scene. All the bugs to this point were usually fixed with a reload, on top of the constant crashing bugs, and I could overlook them because the game is that old school RPG, with the fallout humor. This is unacceptable for a full price release to not only have this many bugs at launch, but still gamebreaking bugs this long after launch. Maybe they will patch this 8 more times any it will be playable, but even if they did, I couldn't recommend spending money on this game. If anything, buy it used to prevent the company from banking on this QC atrocity that inXile found acceptable to launch in this state. IF you can get past the infinite glitches and bugs, there is a great CRPG to play through, with extreme replay value (if you can finish it). Unfortunately if you end up where I am (and many others find themselves), then you can't finish it once, let alone want to go through all these headaches of countless bugs just to see the alternate story arcs. Cannot recommend this game at this time due to crashes and gamebreaking bugs. It’s a disgrace that it was released at all and the devs and publisher should be ashamed.

    Do not buy this game at least for 6 weeks if you want to play with your friend. The amount of bugs is just funny, looks like they didn't test it. Not sure about single mode. Final dot for me was selling garbage, selling icon just never disappear funny thing if you save game and load it, the icon never disappear and this is for every shop so we can't use shops now XD

The overall impression I faced like it was made by a single person within a month, really, you might check a video when a folk creates a simple Diablo-clone in a week...with better graphics that Wasteland 3 has. Why so? I guarantee the reason is in Unity, like the game was ported from Unreal Engine in 10 days in order not to face problems on mobile platforms. Really, the game looks like it was mainly designed to work on smart-phones, not consoles or PCs. The overall graphics, shaders, physics looks like a disaster, a strange circle of light surrounds selected hero, changing reflections in a small radius, some trees were not rendered properly, and I didn't find a way to change camera view. I'm highlighting these aspects that much because of price 50USD for pre-order in steam or 60USD on PS4, hence I assume the game positioned as an AAA contains high-quality sounds, face-animations, in-game footage, but nothing like that. Sounds seems creepy as if they were recorded on an airsoft polygon. I didn't expect 3 face animations and cheap dialogue menu when paid my 60USD. Also inventory, enemies look so cheap as the were borrowed from a free-to-play game. There is no such atmosphere we met in Wasteland 2, In-game gamma of the doesn't really represents wasteland's atmosphere, it's like borrowed from on of teenagers free-to-play shooters. And finally it looks like developers made their game without passion, attitude and attention to details, like I previously mentioned made by a single person in a month. There is no way we can avoid comparison with other games of same genre. I had experience with Mutant Year Zero, and XCOM2 and in comparison to them Wasteland 3 looks so weird and unprofessional as if it came to us from previous century in combat, physics, atmosphere, enemy variation, content amount. Hereby I don't recommend owning this game, better spend your time and money on a more valuable product, e.g. one of those I mentioned above. Expand

    The problem is, it rarely does.

    Never have I played a game so plagued by bugs and crashes. Not even extreme edge cases either, you can tell their QA either doesn't exist or should be fired.

    Among MANY others:
    - Party members that randomly leave you for nonsense reasons: I had 2 party members leave me because there was "too much human blood on my hands"...After I fought a pack of wolves;
    - You see a trap and tell your explosives expert to disarm it? He may randomly just feel like walking over the trap and killing himself. Controlling him alleviates this a bit but it still does happen;
    - You order your dude to attack, he spends the energy and...Nothing happens. No miss, no bullet spent, just nothing. This happens often;
    - You'd better be ready to quick save every 30 seconds because your game is going to crash every couple of minutes;
    - If by some miracle your game ran for a couple of hours without a crash you're going to need to restart it, because while it's terribly optimized to begin with(expect no more than 25ish fps on a ps4 pro) it'll leak itself into a 5 fps slugfest;
    - make copies of your save often, and good luck: I often ran into situations where I had to load the same save 5 times before it actually loaded without a crash;
    - As I stated at the start, one of those saves that corrupted itself during a crash somehow managed to break my entire file system and error boot-loop my ps4. I had to initialize it and lost all the saves to all my games. I am never playing a game from this company again if I see even a slim mention of a single bug.

    On the plus side, the writing's great, the story is entertaining and the concept is fun. If only it worked. Never before have I seen a game that paired such great writers up with such awful developers.

    Embarassing.

    Let me ask you a question first: What is the most important aspect of a game? Being able to play it of course.

    But hey, credit is when it is due, so let's talk about this game's strong points. In terms of rpg experience Wasteland 3 is simply brilliant. Rpg elements, skill checks etc are seamlessly combined with a very fun combat system. With many different weapons, items, special abilities, and a non-linear gameplay, Wasteland 3 will offer you many, many different ways to have fun.

    ...if you can ACTUALLY PLAY IT.

    From a technical standpoint, Wasteland 3 is an utter and complete disaster. Just like PS4 version of previous game, Wasteland 3 will continuously test your patience as you slog through the game's numerous glitches, bugs and of course, crashes. Your initial enjoyment from this game will turn into first, frustration later hair pulling anger and finally nail-biting terror. You will struggle to not to throw the controller to floor as you wonder why the your ai controlled companions disappear without warning. Your curses will be heard from the space as you try to move your character who simply refuses to budge or shot at the enemy despite being in range and having a fully loaded weapon. Your pulse will rise as you wait in horror, wondering when the game will crash and cost you your hard earned victory, which you just spent 10 minutes to win.

    Oh, did i mention crashes? Oh yes. This game crashes ALL THE TIME. In every 30 or 40 minutes game crashes during the area transitions, forcing you to restart your game.

    As of the time of this review, Wasteland 3 is six months old and they couldn't fix this. In fact, they couldn't fix anything at all. Every time developers release a patch, they fix something but end up breaking something else. It appears that developers, despite the criticism of Wasteland 2's terrible launch and subsequent technical problems, especially on PS4, have learned nothing. Was it too much to hire programmers that are actually competent and program games that are, you know, actually playable?

    At this state, i cannot recommend Wasteland 3 which is in a broken state despite being 6 months old. It is no exaggeration to say that this is the most unstable game i have ever played on my PS4. ...well, besides Wasteland 2 of course.

    You simply cannot release a broken, faulty product. You have responsibility to your costumers and long-term fans to do an at least, a game that doesn't break down every half an hour.

    If your game is less stable than Alpha Protocol, it is time to consider a career change.

It seems like they nailed the combat system and the role-playing aspects seem fantastic. Unfortunately the experience is mired by design issues that really have nothing to do with the gameplay. First of all the loading screens are horrendously long ( longer than anything I've encountered in recent memory ), and doesn't seem to get any better even when entering a small room etc. I would normally be willing to look past it, but the long loading screens are coupled with some serious design issues. At every turn the game forces you to wait through multiple loading screens for no real reason at all. Often you will need to simply enter an area to either activate/turn in a quest, for which you will be forced to sit through a minimum of two loading screens. I noted to myself a point near the beginning of the game where you actually sit through it 7 times without having actually progressed in any way. Then there is the crashing, which happens often ( I'm writing this after the first patch that supposedly addressed this ), and seems to predominantly occur during, guess what - loading screens. When this happens, you have to wait on the game to start up again, then you have to wait on a loading screen to get back to where you were before the game crashed, then you get to immediately wait a third time where it crashed in first place. This has happened multiple times in a row on occasion. The game actually crashed from the main menu one time when I pressed "New Game". I've finally given up on actually trying to play it at this point, and I really tried to give it a chance because I liked the gameplay so much. If they make an earnest attempt to fix these issues then I would consider it in the future, but it is completely unacceptable to release a full priced game in such an unplayable state. Expand

    There have been said enough about bugs of that game... And yes, I can still confirm that, there are still bugs and bad implementations in the game. Well, its the customers fault, that they buy unfinished games...

    Even after the recently released patch, that really improved the loading times (~60% I have read), the loading times still killed the game for me! It is incredible, that the game still needs up to 30 seconds to load a new sector! We are not talking about huge maps and sectors, come on!

    Do not get fooled! This game wastes a lot of my lifetime for just loading game contents...

    No one can tell me, that they could not preload game contents, when the player is going to a particular exit point! Other games also do preloading of game contents. It can't no so hard to be implemented.

    The game sectors or maps are just ridiculous small, I do not know why the game needs to load each time I am entering another part of a city! LOL?!

    By the way, I have seen a lot of video games. This game does just copying previous games and does not show much new stuff. Do not understand high people can rate that game about 80%!

    It's just fooling us! Even Fallout 1,2 and Tactics or XCOM 1&2 did better job here!

    Wake up, it's 2020 and we play games that are released not finished and are also boring and time wasting!

    Thanks MS I did not have to buy that game! Thanks to the Game Pass!

    No wonder it is in the game pass...

    I am getting loosing respect for game development, if I see such crap going release since years now!

    It's okay to copy ideas, but even worse making things even worse!!!

    The game is playable, that's why I give a 4/10!

    But it really burns my lifetime... You have to walk a lot in that game to get things done and then, even if its not enough, they also burn my time with those loading times each time I move from one part of the game to another... ROFL

    And this is the third part of that game... LOL again.
    What will Wasteland 4 look like? Another copy of Wasteland 2/3???

    Wasteland is a game that has masses of potential but really needs barriers removed for a great experience. After a few hours I had to give up as I could see these barriers were going to be omnipresent and very noticeable. I have almost identical gripes with Divinity Original Sin and its sequel.

    The graphic are quite decent. Being able to zoom in and out is a nice touch, however the camera angle itself makes it very difficult to see where you are going properly. This is quite a problem in a game that explains a mechanic whereby you should strategically place your soldiers before battle, but that's a bit hard to when you can't see the layout of the field or your enemies properly.

    The map of the game is also horrendous, as well as the overall UI. It's messy and overly complicated, introducing you to far too much too early into the game. Unless you have a lot of hours and patience, this is overwhelming. Granted RPGs are time-consuming by definition, but this is an avoidable issue.

    The gameplay is where more issues arise. I really liked the RPG mechanics of levelling up and increasing attributes, but again this is cumbersome in the early hours as you are thrown into the deep end of tutorials and RPG mechanics, some not very well explained. For example, lockpicking and other skills are largely seen as one option out of many, however I was meeting locked doors that were key to solving missions, meaning if you don't level up a character in this then you're going to get stuck and frustrated a few hours later like I was.

    In addition to this, weapon modding seems to be locked behind a skill tree also, which doesn't make sense when you have a vast array of skills needing your attention. I put the difficulty on easy as I foresaw issues with the game, so modding wasn't needed but this could be a major problem otherwise.

    Another major gripe I have is with the layout, the maps and mission structures. The guidance is absolutely lacking and minimal. I'm not sure if this is intended ala Divinity Original Sin but I think it's a terribly lazy game mechanic. To even access the map you have to open the menu and cycle through about five tabs to get there. This is very cumbersome and the mini-map is pretty much useless. There are no map markers to show your destination - usually you are given place names but this involves arduously searching through the map, which is also not user-friendly at all.

    In general, the gameplay is not user-friendly and nowhere near as fluid as it could be and should be. Then there are bugs, such as when I press X to exit and area and nothing happens, meaning I need to repeat and repeat until it temperamentally works.

    The story is where Wasteland 3 shines regardless of the abundance of issues. The characters are diverse and show some personality whilst also allowing you dialog trees that influence mission progression. The downside for me was that characters are thrown at you thick and fast, so it's hard to get to know your teammates, never mind your accomplices and enemies. Unfortunately I did not progress far enough to benefit from this promising story.

    Overall, Wasteland 3 makes me dread the state of the games that came before it. What is most frustrating really is that none of the issues are particularly complex or difficult to resolve. There is clearly a blueprint of an excellent game that I can see, however I simply cannot get past the arduous menu navigating and incomplete mission structures.

    The game would be great if not for the constant bugs and crashes. Interface is not great either but could be forgiven if the game ran smoothly, now it just adds insult to injury.

    Nonstop bugs, slow, boring combat, terrible writing and humor, an unworkable UI, and repetitive "go fight this and get an item" game play all highlight how much of a mistake this game is.

    The impossibly bad AI means the game is extraordinarily easy on any difficulty, as enemies will never adapt to anything you do, or even attempt to avoid hazards. This applies to any friendly allies

    The impossibly bad AI means the game is extraordinarily easy on any difficulty, as enemies will never adapt to anything you do, or even attempt to avoid hazards. This applies to any friendly allies you have as well. This adds considerably to how boring the game is. You will quickly come to dread combat as any encounter is a slow slog as enemies quickly become heavily armored bullet sponges as a stand in for actual difficulty.

    I bought this game for under ten dollars on sale, and regret it. I should have purchased a nice sandwich instead. Do not buy this trash.

    A classic role-playing experience that leaves great feelings and unforgettable memories in its wake.

    Wasteland 3 is an excellent RPG by keeping the spirit of the original, while also borrowing from Xcom. While the load times get in the way sometimes, there is no denying that you need to play this game if you love a great story with an edge.

    Wasteland 3 is a technically and visually flawed work of art. It is a true successor to the cult cRPG franchise, both masterfully written and designed, where the player is presented with a true impactfulness and meaning to their choices and decisions.
