I enjoyed it up until I got stuck on a mission that wouldn’t start and I was locked out of progressing. It’s a bit of fun. I regret paying full retail price for this. I’d pay anywhere between 10-15 quid not 50. The gear is not deep and detailed enough. The enemies aren’t varied enough. Play it and then boot up Diablo 3 and there is absolutely no competition. This is fresh whereas Diablo 3 I have rinsed to death but if they were released alongside each other then I wouldn’t play Chaosbane. It’s fun to play through for a bit but ultimately disappointed as it has not lived up to my hopes for an arpg to rival Diablo 3. Expand

I haven't played a game this bad in years, i felt like this game insults me as a player with the quest design, if the story wasn't there like maybe do a dark souls style, minimal story that would have been way way way better than this utter garbage, the game play has it moments but the game it self kept me from it with its utter trash of quests, i mean i would like to play more but theI haven't played a game this bad in years, i felt like this game insults me as a player with the quest design, if the story wasn't there like maybe do a dark souls style, minimal story that would have been way way way better than this utter garbage, the game play has it moments but the game it self kept me from it with its utter trash of quests, i mean i would like to play more but the idea of me replaying the story so i can try new characters is just not happening Expand

Warhammer Chaosbane is a game that ultimately fails to live up to its hype and despite the innovative character creation and advancement system doesn’t add anything to the ARPG category of games.

Gameplay is adequate but the story is mind numbingly dull and the choppy dialog combined with lack of meaningful cut scenes really hurt the game. The story should have been one of the strengths

Gameplay is adequate but the story is mind numbingly dull and the choppy dialog combined with lack of meaningful cut scenes really hurt the game. The story should have been one of the strengths of the game as I consider the Warhammer universe one of the deepest settings in Fantasy gaming.

Like it or not, the only fair comparison for this game is Diablo 3 and even though Diablo 3 has out for years it still plays better.

The bottom line is this. Warhammer Chaosbane is a beautiful game that for the right price is worth picking up. $30 for the game a seasons pass would be the sweet spot for me. I almost preordered this and after playing it I am glad I didn’t. It just doesn’t offer enough to justify the full price.

If you have played Warhammer the miniature game you probably know that guy who paid someone a lot of money to beautifully paint his army. He spends his time bragging how much better his army looks than yours without realizing it’s the game that’s important and how your army looks is ultimately meaningless if no one wants to play you in a game. This game is not quite at this level but it does skirt it from time to time.

It is not THAT bad, but you always (really, ALWAYS) do the same thing. If it was not for this, the game it could be pretty good.

At first, this looks quite promising. The opening levels are diverse enough to keep things interesting and the introduction to the gameplay gives a standard but solid Diablo clone. But the veneer is too thin, and this quickly becomes something that only the most hardcore Warhammer fans will truly enjoy. For the rest of the players out there, this is just yet another Diablo clone atop the veritable mountain that already exists; one with repetitive maps, a lackluster character progression, and dull combat. Not to mention the story. One that is completely without teeth. It's like a YA novel; standard fantasy fare, with some of the worst voice acting in recent memory. This is kind of fun, but there are many other games already that do what it tries to do so much better.

Warhammer: Chaosbane is an incredibly entertaining game but at this point in time, that fun lasts as long as players continue to be invested in the repetitive nature of an ARPG. Right now, the pool of enemies, while aesthetically cool, begin to feel tired after awhile. It takes a considerable amount of time before modified enemies show up and the variety of equipment might not be enough for some players to invest the time it will take to soar to the highest echelons of skill.

A simple, accessible, and fun action RPG that’s particularly good fun in co-op. Generic as they come, but what’s here is well balanced, detailed and smooth in motion. [Issue#164, p.92]
