Looked like a potentially enjoyable Diablo clone, set in Warhammer times.

But it's so unfinished! Half done, bugged, I have no words. It's the only title I have to regularly force quit a couple times a day! Multiplayer is buggy, I've seen black screens. Enter into scripted dialogues with no UI coming up… to be attacked by monsters. No button would do ANYTHING. Joining a multiplayer

Gameplay had potential, someone attempted to reinvent what works, but didn't take it all the way. Press X, use a fancy skill, press X so your energy recharges, all the way.

    I regret having wasted money.

Was excited to get this game--I love ARPGs and I'm also a fan of the Warhammer fantasy setting. Should be a slam dunk, right? Not quite...

The four classes are fun to play at first. They each have a distinct style and their special attacks gave them a cool flavor. They're the basic fighter/mage/ranger/rogue setup, functional if a bit bland. You start off strong, able to mow down hordes pretty effectively right out of the gate. Unfortunately, even though the game keeps giving you new attacks, you almost never use them as spamming your basic attack along with the odd 'big' strike is more than enough to take on mobs of monsters--and that gets boring pretty quick.
The game world feels dull and small. Exploring the world consists of obtaining a mission and going out of one of the gates in the hub world (there's more than one to make it look like that matters). You're plunked down exactly where you need to be, killing your way down linear corridors with the occasional little offshoot until you do whatever it is you need to do for that level and they let you out. Rinse and repeat. There's little variation from level to level in terms of looks throughout a given act. Tougher monsters are slowly introduced. There's no sense of a living, breathing world, no real exploration at all. It's boring.
Skill setup is interesting--you have a limited number of points to work with. More powerful skills and/or higher ranks of skills cost more points. This forces you to choose what you really want to use versus just taking the most powerful skills available. It would be fun if spamming your basic attack wasn't so effective, so you wind up with a couple of strong attacks and a suite of passives. Dull. The god tree is similar--different branching paths to give yourself passive buffs and new skills. Pick a skill you like and build towards it. Yahoo. You also get a bloodlust skill later on that just slaughters everything and is somehow even more spammy as that is literally all you can do in that state.
The characters and monsters all look fantastic, exactly like the miniatures from the tabletop game. They consist, in the main, of mobs of melee folks which run pell-mel into the thresher that is your basic attack spam, getting slaughtered by the dozens. You get the odd ranged guy that just annoys the heck out of you as he runs away taking pot-shots at you, and here and there you get a tough monster that has very obviously telegraphed attacks you have to avoid. The most unique idea here are the standard bearers which buff their comrades--too bad the flag makes them *very* obvious and you'll just blast them apart.
Loot is dull, generally consisting of direct minor upgrades to what you already have. The item set idea they have could be interesting--get a buff if you wear all the same stuff!--but itemization is so random that it rarely comes into play. Gear looks good for what it is, although it's mostly color swaps. Customization is sorely lacking.
I wanted to love this game but it just comes off as tedious. I load it up, do *one* mission, and pack it up for the day. Replay value looks slight. Unless you're a hardcore fan of Warhammer and just dying for a new ARPG I'd skip this one.

This is when you need to review your inventory and make deep decisions about your equipme... no no wait it shows you what is better using green/red text and items don't have any deeper abilities so you can just see quickly what is better. Now, this is a feature I would have loved in other similar games but in Chaosbane it just means your mind even further disengages from the game.
Hey, look, maybe I'm old and seeing the sassy dwarf, haughty elves and blank human for the millionth time while interacting with NPCs who float around the place barking orders at you while taking themselves incredibly seriously just doesn't do it.
This is a game about the action after all and I might be missing the point. So, I go out again, hold X... Things may improve later in the game but frankly i can't face it. I played for about 10 hours, but must admit I did fall asleep twice.

Deleted the game right after the first coop mission with my friend. Unlike Diablo or Path of Exile, the game carries no excitement and intensity. Waste of money and disappointed from this Warhammer Series.

The story is irrelevant. The Gameplay is no fun at all. You can kill some time playing chaosbane while waiting for a better game.

3 points because it looks ok though.

Skip Choasbane and play 40K Inquisiton Martyr, a much better Bad Arse game.
Not only is the gameplay dull after the first initial enjoyment of using skills for the first time , but the whole game feels unbalanced and unready.

My biggest issues is the voices, there was so many annoying player callouts , bad acting and bugs in the voice audio, it was a joke. In the first 5 hours of exploring this game I heard my characters voice change from female to male 4 times on 2 different characters, (What the !?!?! is that). The battle noises and callouts of the Dwarf and Elf are so annoying I had to turn voices volume down, but even that doesn't kill all the irritating laughs and stuff. The sound is a constant assault on your senses and it hard to like much with this constant irritation. It doesn't help that the female character look like the single mum with 5 kids smoking a ciggy outside your local pub of a tuesday, yeh there's no femme fatales or sexy badass warriors in this game, just annoying uggos.
The leveling is terrible , it's just so limiting. First your limited by skills being locked , then by not having anywhere near enough points, then by boredom. You don't sell your gear, you just give it away, removing (trading) one of my favorite part of most ARPGS i've played. Its a buggy undercooked bore fest . Get Inquisition Martyr, a good game.
One good thing is the graphics and performance, game world looks great an is 60 frames, but the reuse the same 3 environment 3 or 4 times each in the campaign, making that less of a win.

It has one unique and creative thing I liked very much: The wizard char have an orb-type spell that he can move with the right joystick, while his own movement in the left joystick. Its fun, and skill based, and a really great idea. Otherwise the game is just ugly, repeatative, boringly simple.

Nudna, miałka i wypełniona błędami produkcja. Szkoda pieniędzy na to coś. Wszędzie lewitujący przeciwnicy, beznadziejny loot i emocje jak na grzybobraniu.

At first, this looks quite promising. The opening levels are diverse enough to keep things interesting and the introduction to the gameplay gives a standard but solid Diablo clone. But the veneer is too thin, and this quickly becomes something that only the most hardcore Warhammer fans will truly enjoy. For the rest of the players out there, this is just yet another Diablo clone atop the veritable mountain that already exists; one with repetitive maps, a lackluster character progression, and dull combat. Not to mention the story. One that is completely without teeth. It's like a YA novel; standard fantasy fare, with some of the worst voice acting in recent memory. This is kind of fun, but there are many other games already that do what it tries to do so much better.

Warhammer: Chaosbane is an incredibly entertaining game but at this point in time, that fun lasts as long as players continue to be invested in the repetitive nature of an ARPG. Right now, the pool of enemies, while aesthetically cool, begin to feel tired after awhile. It takes a considerable amount of time before modified enemies show up and the variety of equipment might not be enough for some players to invest the time it will take to soar to the highest echelons of skill.

A simple, accessible, and fun action RPG that’s particularly good fun in co-op. Generic as they come, but what’s here is well balanced, detailed and smooth in motion. [Issue#164, p.92]
