Five Word Review: What you expect from Uncharted.
Favorite Thing: It's a beautiful game with a fun story.
Least Favorite Thing: The gunplay. Never did like that aspect of this series.

    Enjoyment: 8/10
Recommendation: If you're a fan of the series or the style of game, yes. If you haven't played any of the Uncharted games you'll probably be fine.

Uncharted 4 is a self-aware action/adventure romp. It knows its strengths and its weaknesses. Paesaggi sempre diversi, tutti realizzati in maniera perfetta. Stupendo. Expand

Absolutely fantastic. Uncharted 4 is the best game of 2016, the best PS4 exclusive I have played, and the best looking game I have ever played. Uncharted 4 is the best game of 2016, the best PS4 exclusive I have played, and the best looking game I have ever played. Sometimes you just don't know what you are missing, and that was the case with Uncharted 4. Having moved from Xbox 360 to PS4, I had no idea how excellent the Uncharted games were. This past month I've played through them all, starting with the first Uncharted. In my review of those games, I said Uncharted 3 holds it own with current generation games. Little did I know that Uncharted 4 would look so amazing that I often stopped to wonder how NaughtyDog did it.

The gameplay in Uncharted 4 builds on the formula of the previous games. You make Nathan Drake climb, swing, solve puzzles, take cover, and shoot bad guys. Hundreds of bad guys. Bodies everywhere. New additions are a grappling hood for certain areas, a climbing pick for certain surfaces, and the ability to tag enemies for stealth takedowns or simply avoiding them where possible. The game is also not light on amazing set pieces as ancient structures are often toppling with Drake in them. Exploration has never been better, and in my first playthrough I found only 37 of 107 treasures.

Even better than the gameplay is the look and feel of the game. Few games are as well written and Drake and his partners banter in a natural way that brings a lot of humor to what could be a gloomy slog. (I'm looking at you, Tomb Raider reboot.) The character animations are so incredibly real that you can easily see how one day games will be difficult to distinguish from real life. The use of lighting is also spectacular, and few games even try to look so good. Seriously, if you have been disappointed by the improvement of current gen games over last gen, Uncharted 4 will make you a believer.

As a full product, Uncharted 4 includes modifiers for the story mode, a competitive multiplayer and a survival mode. The story mode modifiers include zero gravity, infinite ammo, and graphics filters like 8-bit, ASCII, and super colorful. The competitive multiplayer is just as competent as you would expect, though I am turned off by the use of micro-transactions. I had the same complaint with The Last of Us remaster. If unlockables were cosmetic only, I would be more interested. Coming in a year late, I feel like it's not worth being cannon fodder. This is the same complaint I have with most multi-player games. The survival mode is a traditional co-op horde mode with a good number of maps available. As you survive waves of enemies, you can unlock better weapons. Survival mode is not as fully fleshed out as Call of Duty's zombie mode but it competes well against other co-op modes.

One last note, Uncharted 4 shows the enduring strength of console exclusives. This game is the answer of which console to buy. It is a near perfect experience I have not felt since the halcyon days of Halo when Bungie made those games. If you own a PS4 and have been burned by years of disappointing sequels, do yourself a favor and play Uncharted 4.

    Pros:
    - Absolutely breathtaking visuals. It's astonishing how impressive Naughty Dog manages to make their games look. Every animation, character model, and texture in this game are beautiful to behold and the overall art direction rivals some of the best titles on PC.
    - The dialogue in the Uncharted games have always been best in class and this one is no exception. The characters feel real based on their interactions with each other as well as the brilliant performances by its star-studded cast.
    - Best plot in an Uncharted game by far. Although I didn't enjoy the story in this game quite as much as in The Last of Us, it was still a treat and thrilling throughout.
    - The grapple hook is a great addition to both the climbing and combat portions.
    - Many of the firefights in the game feel involved and dynamic. The enemy AI is constantly trying to flank and exploit your weaknesses and success is often only attainable through smart thinking and quick reactions.
    - More than anything, the ~15 hour experience truly imparts the feeling of adventure. What else could you ask for from an Uncharted title?

    Cons:
    - Despite the refinements made to combat, the game still does not push you enough to play the game the way it was meant to be played. Sitting behind cover and shooting after regenerating health is often tactically superior to running around causing mayhem. Unfortunately, this is also a significantly less fun way to experience Nathan Drake's latest adventure.
    - Nathan Drake is more or less the most athletic human being of all time. Because of this, it is incredibly frustrating when there's a chest high wall he can't climb or when he dies from a 10 ft. fall. For the most part, the game does a great job of crafting a linear experience with the veneer of choice and exploration. However, this makes the points when the illusion is dispelled even more noticeable.
    - Framerate drops are rare, but still noticeable.

A great close to the series with interesting / unexpected take on main character arc. The in-game engine animations / blended textures are phenomenal and set the bar for other developers to follow. Gameplay now resembles TLOU using slower conversational segments - love this. Environmental storytelling is excellent. If you own ps4 you should add this to your collection.

Naughty Dog ah Naughty Dog. Every time I see them developing something it puts a smile on my face because I know its going to be gold, and that's no exception with Uncharted 4. The final chapter in Nathan's story and its a memorable one. The brotherly love is felt here and Sully coming back. It really feels like an ending to a great game series. Also what a great final battle.

Great story telling by the team at Naughty Dog. Giving this game anything less than an 8 is simply idiotic.

The combat is also very fun and satisfying. Stealth has become a more viable option and this diversifies the gameplay and overall improves the experience. However, there are some climbing sections that stretch far too long and the game takes a while to get going so pacing wasn't the best for this game. The villains are also underdeveloped and not that interesting as per usual for the Uncharted series.

Best Uncharted game of the series! I played through two times - beat it on normal difficulty and then replayed on a harder setting. The graphics are great and the story is excellent. Some have complained about the story of this game being to forgiving on Nathan Drake, but this is something I did not personally notice. The mechanics of this game are near perfection with the introduction of the rope and swinging which allows for fun takedowns of enemies. The story is more mature telling the story of Nathan who is obliged to hunt for a treasure with his (maybe) shady brother. What I like about the story is that it's not a simple good vs evil story, you actually understand why the villains want the treasure and you don't hate them as much as the other villains in the first three games.

The gameplay for this game is a great improvement, there is stealth in it, you can slide on slippery platforms and you have the grappling hook, they have added more stuff for you to enjoy this games and it works really well. It's fluid and satisfying just like you want an uncharted game to be.

While characters and story are really polished (story is kinda redundant, though), the pace of the game is terribly bad
Some episodes are specially offensive, hours of tiring climbing and boring shooting.
Stealth is ok, but other than that the combat is flawed at high difficulties.
Granade counterattack was removed, so that, there are many cheap deaths and makes this game a lackluster.
Mature themes does not fit gameplay as the Last of Us did, specially when characters and emotions in Uncharted franchise were not meant to be serious. (There's heavy narrative ludo-dissonance here)
Set pieces are severely lacking here, i was hoping some train scene, or plane scene (i mean, some set piece at the height of the mentioned)
I still see its good points, but it's for me a 7/10

Stating that the forthcoming game will be the last rendezvous with a popular, charismatic hero is a rare phenomenon. I congratulate Naughty Dog on their courage and in spite of myself keep my fingers crossed for them to stick to their decision. The farewell party they threw for Nate is simply spectacular. This is how I want to remember him, not as an old man who rubbed his joints with pain cream and then found a UFO.
