I'm primarily interested in a good story, so my review score is primarily based on that. Lets get the other things out of the way first.

It's obvious that graphics are a primary focus in this game. Textures, characters, and the world are some of the best on PS4, if you don't mind 30fps. And if you squint your eyes a bit (or have a small tv), things can even pass as being real.

The gameplay cycle normally goes like this: You get a story cut-scene where your characters decide to go somewhere, you get automatically transported close to that place where you have to use your super-human rock-climbing skills (and sometimes crate-pushing skills) to make it to your final destination, and along the way, you have to murder groups of 5-15 bad guys. Repeat 50 times until the game says it's over.

The gameplay-story cohesion isn't very good with this one and I'd say it's the biggest plot hole. Why do I, my brother, my wife, and some old man that follows me around all have super-human rock-climbing skills? Why do the bad guys always instantly know who I am and open fire on immediately upon sight? Why don't the bad guys act like normal humans and talk to me first before trying to kill me? And how did all of those bad guys, vehicles, and other equipment get to places that I had to rock-climb and Indiana-jones swing to get to and from? It's all quite video-gamey.

I like at how near the end of the game, someone comments about how many of the bad guys were killed. Yes, you single-handedly kill about a thousand of them. I suppose this is fine because this game is catering to people who are used to shooting guys in video games, but it's just another thing that distracts from the story immersion.

The action sequences in the game are some of the best I've seen. They're like your typical impossible movie action hero sequences where you escape a collapsing/exploding building, all while 100 people are shooting at you. For the most part, they consist of quick time events, but I can't think of a better way to do them.

The game has disposable (although pretty) environments. After you rock-climb or shoot your way through them, you never see them again. You're constantly on the move in the story, so this makes sense. But I do feel bad about the amount of work put into things that you see for only 30 seconds.

The story is slightly below average when compared to the multitude of stupid action adventure movies out there. It's right up your alley if you love Indiana Jones-type movies with slight conspiracies and mysteries. It has the typical plot holes for these kinds of movies, and then some, because it's not quite as coherent as a normal movie and it has to deal with all of the video-gamey mechanics on display. You're basically on a quest to find a pirate's lost treasure and need to go around the world looking for the trail and clues to bring you to your next spot. And of course, the bad guys are normally ahead of you the entire time (so you have someone to shoot at along the way). This of course leads up to a climatic ending where there's lots of fire, explosions, and destruction because that's how stupid action adventure movies are supposed to end.

I played though this because I wanted to see what the majority of people thought was a good game these days (and because it was $7). It met my expectations exactly and it was quite the average experience. It's for lovers of stupid action-adventure movies and not for those seeking unique or amazing masterpieces in storytelling. But hey, everyone needs to start somewhere..

The checkpoints are close together so the game is very forgiving in the case of a misstep. By the end I became invested in the story and was disappointed it came to an end. The only thing I didn't really like was the length of a few of the cut scenes and the fact that mechanically it really felt like the last two.

Loved the game - the survival mode is a reason I'll keep coming back and enjoying.

I really liked this game. It was very cool to see the graphical update on this game from the older games. My favorite part of the game was the combat, I was having a blast whether I was shooting enemies or just jumping around ( there's a lot of that ). This game is in the bargain bin these days so you have no excuse if you have a PS4- play it.

I've never seen textures, lighting, facial animations or environments rendered like this in my life and it is difficult not to marvel at the artistic quality of this game. Outside of its visual representation, Uncharted 4 is also a very enjoyable, solid and complete gaming experience. It is occasionally quite gameplay light and is effectively an interactive movie, but at least it knows what it is, and excels in delivering this exact thing.

Exploration is satisfying, exhilarating and easy to access. Finding hidden treasures after taking a slightly off-road route to your next goal is always gratifying, and the environments are so meticulously crafted, it all just feels right. The story is pretty standard, with a couple of twists here and there, but is ultimately more character-focused. All the main players in the plot are wonderfully animated and seem like real people. For once in-game dialogue is genuinely funny and interesting - teasing among brothers, domestic bickering between husband and wife, and the voice actors bring the roles to life. I cannot fault the character aspect of the game one bit, and was actually sad to leave them all on completion of the game. The Uncharted series truly nails the comrade feel.

Gameplay-wise, Uncharted 4 is nothing new. Shooting sections are a bit drab but adding in stealth makes combat much more fun. Still, I often found these sections to be trial and error in terms of dying (on hard difficulty you can be shot from a distance and die very easily), which detracted from the otherwise complete immersion in the game experience. Climbing sections are actually enjoyable and varied and some parts (the clock tower springs to mind) are effective as puzzles. The actual dungeon puzzles are always unique, interesting and fun, albeit easy. But once again, this game is not marketed and presented as a swashbuckling version of Dark Souls - it is meant to be an involving, beautiful and very human game, meant to be enjoyed casually, allowing it to sneakily engross you. The action set-pieces are also in tune with series tradition - grappling along mud behind a fleet of enemy motorbikes, escaping a billionaire Italian hillside mansion, crumbling pirate caves and swinging through decaying mountain settlements. The grappling hook features heavily in these scenes and is a fantastic addition to core mechanics.

The variety of landscapes and environments, a series strength, is of course fantastic. The semi-open chapters mid-way through are genuinely some of the most gorgeous animated scenes I can recall across any media. And wait til you see the fire animation - how did they do that?! Although my experience with this game was overwhelmingly positive, there are a few small issues on my part. The flashback sequences are slow and take you out of the snappily-paced main story too much, despite nice character building and some beautiful night-time urban environments. Combat is very average, and occasionally frustrating. And the difficulty settings are weird as, given the main game is breezy, hardness ramps up to artificially silly levels during large gun fights where, as mentioned, the difficulty comes in being rapidly downed when there is often no choice but to be hit. Stealth is key, it seems, to surviving the hardest settings.

All things considered, this is an excellent game if you know what you're getting yourself in for - a totally immersive, visually dazzling, action-packed and character-driven story of treasure, adventure and friendship, with added grappling hook. Probably the most fun I've had on my PS4 since buying it.

TLDR: Over rated game, story is bland, movement is clunky, everyting breaks, everything lacks purpose or depth.

    Pros: Great visuals

    Cons:
*Everything you touch breaks in the game.
*Enemies are bullet sponges which makes combat a complete bore.
*Characters motivations for going after the treasure are all bland except for Nathan who wants to save his brother.
*Climbing is god aweful and boring after an hour. The problem is that climbing is 90% of the game...
*Controls are hella clunky especially in the car or when in cover as you clip way to often.
*Annoying when you can clearly see where you have to go but you have to interact with some meaningless object before having access to that area.

    Conclusion:
I get removing player agency for the sake of narration. However, when inconsistencies litter the whole damn world and everything around you breaks or explodes for no reason when they shouldn't, it just feels like you have your hands tied and have absolutely zero choice. It ends up being frustrating.

Uncharted 4 even in 2018 2 years later after an exit remains to the best an action game with a look from 3 persons. Fine end of history of Nathan Drake. The epilog just plays on nostalgic feelings. This game the brightest confirmation that video games not only are art, but also can be better than cinema and books.
P.S. Even it is terrible to present what will show Naughty Dog in The Last of Us: Part II.

One of the bests! Pretty short, around 16-19 hours, but what you experience is wonderful. The goodbye of your favorite characters. And the set pieces, the action, the emotions. One of my favorite games ever. This is the best of the Uncharted series, and it doesn't have supernatural elements, which I like.

Naughty Dog, as usual delivers a very polished game with amazing landscapes, impressive action scenes and likable characters with even more subtleties than before.
Surprisingly, some gameplay mechanics were removed from the previous installments and some new ones were intruduced. Unfortunately, that's were the game feels slighlty unbalanced.

I thought the story of this game was incredible. It had me hooked from beginning to end. However the problem I have is in the gameplay. The climbing and puzzle solving gets stale rather quickly. Art, sound, animations, and cutscenes are excellent all around. The cast deliver superb voice and mocap performances. The story involves Nathan Drake going on one more adventure to look for pirate treasure, in an effort to save his older brother Sam. Typical Uncharted fare, though the addition of Nate's brother and the exploration of Nate's relationship with his wife Elena helped bring some depth to a main character that's always been fairly generic. The antagonists this time around were not as compelling as previous games. The character Nadine in particular felt like a "badass chick" trope that was thrown in to appease the feminists. The game itself was too long, and could have been 14 chapter game instead of 20. There were some overly long walk and talk sections, and many of the platforming sections started to repeat themselves. The gameplay remains a mix of combat with platforming and some puzzle solving. There are also some new Tomb Raider style mechanics in the pickaxe and the grapple rope. The platforming and puzzles are the series biggest strengths, and they are showcased well in this game.

Now on to the big bad of the game, and indeed the series in general: the combat. It's awful. All the worst aspects of the combat in 2 and 3 have been retained and amplified. First of all, the aiming. The camera controls have this weird acceleration lag that makes trying to aim at enemies a chore. This is exacerbated by the aim-down-sights sensitivity, which is way too high, even on a setting of 0. If you do manage to get your reticule on an enemy, they go into a little dodge animation that moves them to the left or to the right. If wrestling with the camera controls wasn't enough, they have to throw an extra curveball with this ridiculous dodge animation that requires you to adjust your aim a second time. When you do hit them, they play an exaggerated stagger animation that once again throws off your aim. The overall effect of all these compounding issues is a gunplay experience that is frustrating and not fun.

Playing on anything above normal turns enemies into sniping machines. They know exactly where you are at all times, even after you've broken line of sight with them. And the grenade spam... there hasn't been this much grenade spam since Call of Duty: World at War. Enemies are able to throw grenades with pinpoint accuracy, and at distances that exceed what is allowed for the player. Taking cover and dodge are bound to the same button. The game will often do one instead of the other, leading to many unintended deaths in gunfights. Your NPC teammates are useless. They frequently use up the best cover available. If you do share cover with them, they will push you out into the open or obscure your aim. The only thing they're good for is occasionally picking off an already weakened enemy.

So there it is, Uncharted 4. 6/10. A solid entry in the series with high production values and an enjoyable story, dragged down by it's gameplay ambitions and terrible combat.

Stating that the forthcoming game will be the last rendezvous with a popular, charismatic hero is a rare phenomenon. I congratulate Naughty Dog on their courage and in spite of myself keep my fingers crossed for them to stick to their decision. The farewell party they threw for Nate is simply spectacular. This is how I want to remember him, not as an old man who rubbed his joints with pain cream and then found a UFO. Uncharted 4 is a brilliant game and a breathtaking demonstration of what PS4 is capable of. [07/2016, p.56]
