Competitive physics-based tetris. What is not to love about that?

Tricky Towers is best described simply as Tetris with physics. Individual pieces fall from above as expected, but they are subject to gravity and physical pressure. Stack them wisely or else your tower might fall apart. The game provides three dynamic modes: Race, Puzzle and Survival.

    (1) In race mode, the player to build the tallest tower wins. Sounds straight forward, right? Not so.

    (1) In race mode, the player to build the tallest tower wins. Sounds straight forward, right? Not so. Players can cast spells to fortify their own structure or sabotage an opponents. For this reason, it's sensible to construct a wide foundation to support your tower as it climbs higher, but if you spend too much time creating the perfect foundation, someone might cut corners and beat you to the top! (2) In puzzle mode, you must fit as many pieces as possible under a laser beam. Exceed the limit and your game ends. (2) Survival mode is trickiest of all. The rate at which the blocks fall will momentarily increase; some pieces will lock in position and others expand in size or descend haphazardly. For an extra challenge, there is wind and rain!

Set a personal best, play with friends or compete online. Honestly the most fun I have had playing Tetris since... the dawn of Tetris.

This game is not Tetris despite screenshots appearing that way. It is more Trash Panic than Tetris. You are stacking things Jenga-like to make towers. Fun in short bursts. Perfect PS+ game as I would never had bought this but I play it all the time.

This game is great, and just the kind of game needed to refresh Tetris style gameplay. Basically, the game is Tetris + real physics + clever challenges.

When it comes to Tetris, I speak with authority. While most game reviewers were getting their diapers changed, I was playing Tetris on a Commodore 128 and then the original Gameboy throughout the 1990s. After more than a decade of Tetris, I have been burnt out for last 15 or so years. Then comes a game like Tricky Towers, and Tetris style game play is fun again, because the tetriminos are now affected by the same laws of gravity as everything else.

Competitive play is wrought with the choice to either help your tower building or hurt your opponent's tower building. Helpers include vines that stick pieces together and secondary tower building sites. Hurters include balloons that slow down your opponent and a fog over the landing site. These options broaden the gameplay beyond simply building your tower faster than your opponent, which is frankly just single player mode side by side.

If you are subscribed to PS+ in August, 2016, this is a must download. If you like Tetris and co-op play, this is a must buy.

A new flavor of Tetris, with a polished 2D art style and competitive multiplayer. Only instead of making lines, you need to make the highest stable tower with your blocks. I was pleasantly surprised when I tried it (as part of the free PS Plus games of August). Anyone who enjoys puzzle games will definitely enjoy this one.
It doesn't appeal to me for longer sessions though, but is ideal

I absolutely adore this game. A fun, whimsical arcade game that has cool single player puzzels and an endless high-score mode. The real treat lies in its multiplayer which reminds me of the frantic 4-player battles I had with Towerfall. A welcome breeze of fresh air on PSN/STEAM.

Don't think you will be dealing with a simple Tetris clone here, because Tricky Towers' game mechanics work quite differently. Basically we are dealing with a physics puzzler/arcade game where wheather elements, spells and your own actions have influence on how high you can build your tower. It is basically virtual Jenga.

Beautifully designed levels will fill your flatscreen with all colours of the rainbow and the comical, cartoony score and sound design will make you smile. I downloaded it on PlayStation+ but I would happily spend money on this great game!

This is a great twist on Tetris, but you're going to get frustrated quickly if you don't realize it's a different game. Physics are key to building and it may take a few rounds to get used to them. I recommend practicing in the single player puzzle mode to learn how to balance your towers. Once you develop some strategies, you will feel in control of your tower building. The single player trials keep pushing you to become better at the three different modes in the game, and the multiple online VS modes let you see how you rank against others.

I find the music a little grating, but it's easy to turn it off in the setting and shouldn't be a deal breaker.

If you like puzzle games, definitely give this game a chance.

Original? No, not really - it's Tetris with a balancing physics mechanic added in.

Fun? Hell yes. Alike the master of brick based puzzlers, Tetris, it loses nothing of the original, but actually makes it much more fun by being really easy to set up and play as P vs P on a sofa, or easy to walk into an online dual - in no time.

The game has x3 game modes that can be played locally, online or a skinny 1 player mode thats like time-trials..

These are: Race / Puzzle / Survival.

Race, is about getting your tower higher faster than your opponent, this sounds easy, but with a weak foundation you will see your peak swaying miles from side to side and makes laying the new brick almost near impossible!

Puzzle, this is like a limbo style mode. You have to get as many bricks as possible under a bar to win, sounds easy, it really really is not! (my highest score so far is 22!)

Survival, alike Race, but you have X amount of bricks to lay down without losing more than 3 to the waters below... it tends to be a much better challenge than a race, but with a worthy opponent, it's chaos still and really fun.

I've played a handful of games online and its a good crack, but I've put in a good 6 hours on the sofa with the missus battling each other on Tricky Towers, it's fun, vibrant, simple yet skillful to master

It may not come close to the fun of Rocket league of 2015, but alike RL, it's about pure fun and nothing beyond, indulge in the online community and get your skills on!!

Addictive, fun on couch and online.. What do you else want from a game?

Okay 10 for me because I actually like it. But there is place to put some more details in the game. There can be more modes, environments, etc.

I'm really not sure I'd buy this game but it was included into PS+ free games. Tricky Towers is really good because I can play it with my gf and there are a very few games that we can play together. The game doesn't require some special sort of skill, like platformers or shooters so we can have fun together, thanks devs.

What a wonderful little puzzle game. A couple friends and I wanted to play a new multiplayer game and so I looked on playstation plus' downloadable games for free, and there was this colorfully titled game, 'Tricky Towers'. I got it and in moments we were playing what was essentially tetris in a few mini-game modes. It was very pleasing to have a game where I can sit on the couch and play with friends locally. I strongly suggest getting it and adding it to your mix of games to play with friends, but when you don't want to invest a bunch of time. And again, it's free on Playstation Plus. Good times.

Tricky Towers may look like the sort of unwanted freebie that PS+ owners have been bemoaning for years but this is good. When you get over the fact that it isn’t quite Tetris, the clever game engine makes Tricky Towers the most addictive puzzler on PSN and with its well-populated online community, this is the perfect pick up and play game around.
