The interactivity and flow of the game make it so much more fun to play than you typical defense game that even non fans will find something to like here.

There’s a lot to enjoy here in a well-rounded package, with plenty of replay value thanks to the range of different heroes, collectibles and high-scores to aim for, as well as the online and offline multiplayer options.

A refreshingly simple 3D tower defense game. It blends the strategy of building and upgrading your units with action-packed third-person shooting, and the result is unadulterated mayhem with a lot of visual charm.

While War Chest could've used better matchmaking with player match-ups and a little more variety with battle missions, it's still a fun trip through kiddie nostalgia, especially if you double down on the Hall of Fame Edition and pit G.I. Joe against He-Man. I mean, who doesn't want to see that battle happen?!

I really loved battling through the various maps and tackling a pretty difficult campaign. On top of that, there are more than a few ways to replay it and one mode designed to have you checking in every day, which is something that isn’t outside of the realm of possibility given how much I liked it.
  6. Even without multiplayer, though, there’s a good 20-plus hours of action packed into this fun little childhood throwback – more than enough to keep strategy fans occupied until the end of the summer.

Once again, Signal Studios have succeeded in making a game that combines in a perfect way three genres in one enjoyable experience. It has its flaws in some aspects like in its online mode or presentation, but overall, it offers a really entertaining title that fans of strategic action and tower defense games should try it at least once.

An entertainingly substantial, if simplistic take on tower defence warfare, Toy Soldiers War Chest’s thrills are prominent, yet a little dulled by some technical issues and a needlessly greedy pricing model.

Toy Soldiers: War Chest is a great idea marred by unforgivable, technical flaws. Even with all of the problems that the game has, I still get enjoyment out of playing it, but it should be so much better.

The merging of tower defense and shooter games is poorly implemented.

There's a healthy number of items to unlock, characters to level and modes to play will keep you coming back for more. It's a pity then that it's burdened by some painful attempts to demand players throw in some extra cash for the DLC.

The variety in game modes doesn't quite make up for the lack of heroes, but Toy Soldiers: War Chest provides some quality entertainment for tower defense aficionados.

Gimmicks aside, however, this is fairly rote and restrictive by modern tower defence standards. [Nov 2015, p.108]

Not bad. But a laundry list of unfortunate drawbacks keeps it from becoming the exciting box of good times and nostalgia that it could have been.

Toy Soldiers: War Chest isn't a bad game by any stretch of the imagination, it's just probably not worth adding to your collection.

As someone that has greatly enjoyed the previous games in the series, Toy Soldiers: War Chest is a disappointing experience. The forced use of Uplay for much of the online content, DLC purchases being locked to the account that purchased it, and a myriad of technical issues hamper the quality of the game.

Toy Soldiers: War Chest feels like a game that was rushed through without care or polish. Nostalgia can’t save this game from being an absolute disappointment.

As a big, big fan of the previous Toy Soldiers games, it was tough to see War Chest falling so short compared to the other two.

The game is different, odd, colourful, and often funny, but it feels like step backwards from its predecessors in more ways than one. And sadly playing as Battle Cat just doesn't seem to fix it.

I bought the retail version of this game for my kids and I to enjoy splitscreen. The only person who can use all the characters is the one using my profile, the rest can only use half the characters, and in my mind, half the game. The licensed characters can only be used by one person at a time. We have enjoyed the game and find it a family friendly bit of third person shooter and light strategy. I enjoy games with my family members, in the same room, and will do so until gaming becomes a strictly online affair. I went to Ubisoft's website and read that the last four armies on the disk are tied to one profile and cannot be shared. WHO DO THEY THINK THE TARGET AUDIENCE IS FOR THIS? So if you are purchasing for the same purpose as I was, be warned hat neither sub accounts, or logging in as guest will make the characters playable. Full Review »

For LOCAL coop, the first player has to have a Uplay account and a PS+ account! It's not online. The other big problem is that the DLC character can only be played by the account which owns them, not the second player. This is simply unaccaptable.
