I am writing this review as a warning to others in my situation. I bought the retail version of this game for my kids and I to enjoy splitscreen. The only person who can use all the characters is the one using my profile, the rest can only use half the characters, and in my mind, half the game. The licensed characters can only be used by one person at a time. We have enjoyed the gameI am writing this review as a warning to others in my situation. The licensed characters can only be used by one person at a time. We have enjoyed the game and find it a family friendly bit of third person shooter and light strategy. I enjoy games with my family members, in the same room, and will do so until gaming becomes a strictly online affair. I went to Ubisoft's website and read that the last four armies on the disk are tied to one profile and cannot be shared. WHO DO THEY THINK THE TARGET AUDIENCE IS FOR THIS? So if you are purchasing for the same purpose as I was, be warned hat neither sub accounts, or logging in as guest will make the characters playable. Expand

This game would probably be an 7 or 8, but....
For LOCAL coop, the first player has to have a Uplay account and a PS+ account! It's not online. The other big problem is that the DLC character can only be played by the account which owns them, not the second player. This is simply unaccaptable.

A good game spoiled by bad business practices. This is a fun game, it brings back the fun from cold war, but if you buy the "hall of fame edition" (aka complete game) don't expect to play it entirely with your family or friends in the same room, because only the account that redeemed the dlc code or bought it from psn will be able to access all the armies, even if you play offline, in splitscreen.

As a big fan of the first 2 Toy Soldiers games I jumped at the chance to get this. The game play is a lot like the others, but with more armies, and less towers per army. The different towers for each army differ in their usage so each army is going to feel unique and the battles are as fun as ever. However, they released the game too soon, and it is still a buggy mess. It has crashed on me at least 5 times in the past 24 hours, and it's often telling me I don't have the dlc heros when I do. It's never crashed on me during a battle so far, so the game isn't broken, but it needs some patching. I will adjust my rating and review after they patch the game, but for now I would say, unless you are already a fan of the game or love tower defense games, you should probably hold off until it's fixed. Still a lot of fun, and the battles are great, it also may not be buggy if you didn't buy the dlc characters, but it was clearly released too soon. Expand

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. First off, all the toy soldier games have been excellent. My kids and i play them coop. War chest is no different, great local couch coop and multi. This is the best local coop on ps4 hands down. Worth every penny of $30. The low ratings regarding the unlocks of the special characters is laughable. The primary act. gets the additional 4 character unlocks. If your kid wants one not on the primary act., then buy it. hey only cost $1!! So u might come out of your pocket $4 if ur kid wants all 4 extra characters. If u can afford a ps4 and internet and $30 to purchase this game, im sure a dollar for ur kid to play as cobra or gi-joe wont break u. The "stock" characters are all good. The game mechanics are perfect. No other local couch coop/multi on ps4 comes close. Game on Expand

This game has great concept but lackluster delivery in every way. In typical Ubisoft fashion the game is full of bugs and non-working parts. Had this game not come with so many issues it would be an ok buy for young kids but even then the price is completely unjustified. This is a game that should be free so I don't suggest buying this at all. Expand

This game is a blast to play on the couch with the kids. It has the feel of old school gaming and has plenty of options of how to play. Each character has a unique arsenal at his or her disposal and the battlefields are each unique in their own way. You can go it solo, or vs each other. The addition of the GI JOE and COBRA, HE MAN, ASSASSINS CREED is welcome. This is a family fun kind of game....if you expect more go elsewhere. Well done. Expand

The game's unplayable. After you do the tutorial, the menu freezes permanently. There is no fix. Even if you reinstall the game, it will not work. This bug has existed since 2015 and will effect everyone who attempts to play this at some point.

Toy Soldiers: War Chest feels like a game that was rushed through without care or polish. Nostalgia can’t save this game from being an absolute disappointment.

Toy Soldiers: War Chest is a great idea marred by unforgivable, technical flaws. Even with all of the problems that the game has, I still get enjoyment out of playing it, but it should be so much better.

Gimmicks aside, however, this is fairly rote and restrictive by modern tower defence standards. [Nov 2015, p.108]
