Tower of Guns is an old style FPS based on speed, jumps, reflexes and difficulty. With only one life available and the impressive quantity of enemies and bullets, the frustration is often around the corner, but thanks to the numerous upgrades and power-ups, the game never becomes impossible (just a bit confusing).

With infinite ammo guns that need no reloading, Tower of Guns is an immensely satisfying (albeit brief) gaming experience that is as engaging to play, as it is stunning to look at.

The journey through Tower of Guns is what makes it fun; it isn’t a game about completion. Its intense firefights and ever-evolving environments are best enjoyed in short bursts. Many of your attempts end in failure, which might entice you to put the controller down, but its classic high-octane action is enough to lure you back for another run – at least for a while.

A shamelessly hardcore FPS, Tower of Guns places a premium on player skill over the linear, big-budget Hollywood narratives that we’re used to.

A quite interesting old-school FPS, that even though it is dated, it's so addictive and cleverly designed that every new try feels like you're playing a different game.

Tower of Guns is shooter where shooting is all that matters. It lacks personality, but holds some fun.

Falls slightly short in substance. [June 2015, p.88]

The premise of this game is a bit been-there-done-that, though that does not mean Tower of Guns doesn't have its charms. Technically, it's rather mediocre, but that doesn't take away the fact that there's definitely some fun to be had here.

Tower of Guns is a pretty decent, fun game to play casually, when you are in the mood to just blow stuff up. And it never takes itself too seriously.

Fans of old school shooters will enjoy Tower of Guns for its classic approach to firing from the hip and strafing through borderline bullet hell stages. The randomly generated rooms and enemies repeat themselves sooner than we'd like and the frame-rate goes to hell in the really busy rooms. There are some tasty guns to be found though and it's a lot of fun in small bursts.

If you want to test your FPS skills, Tower of Guns throws down a tough and engaging challenge that's best enjoyed in short bursts.

It will require above the average skills, and after a while it'll get repetitive, but it's still a unique experience in its own way.

Tower of Guns proves to be a fun diversion that unfortunately falters in a couple of key areas.

Overall, Tower of Guns starts out showing some strong promise that it could be an excellent little blaster. However, the more time you spend with it the more the lack of depth and variety begins to become a problem.

The idea of a FPS rogue game where you earn new abilities as you try and make your way to the top sounds ever so promising, but with all the issues I had with it, I’ve already bailed out.

The developer calls this a lunch break game, and that is exactly what it is. Sometimes you don't have the mental energy or time to play Bloodborne or a story driven game. Sometimes you only have half an hour and you just want to have fun exploring and blowing stuff up. That is where Tower of Guns excels. For those that haven't played it, the way it works is that you start by selecting a gun, and one special ability. Based on the gun and ability you choose it changes how you play the game and potentially allows you to explore different parts of the levels. I've now played 22 times with a variety weapons and special abilities and each play through has been unique and enjoyable. The developer also included some special things that happen after you've died a certain number of times, which was a nice surprise. If I was going to change anything in the game, I would really like the ability to start with more than one special ability/gun, it's really hard to pick just one. In sum, accept this game for what it is and you will really enjoy it. Or don't accept it and play something else, it'll be your loss. Full Review »

Kudos to the sole dev for this enjoyable game. Reminds me of my limited gaming in the 90's with Quake and the sort. Played for just a few hours, and enjoyed the exploring aspect. Lack of modding guns is a downside, but enjoyable to pickup random perks throughout the change up each rogue-like playthru, which can be short or long. On average from my 7 deaths so far I have played 35 minutes per life. I'm not sure I'll be incline to continue playing this after a week, even though shooters are not my style. Overall, I enjoy it enough to get all of the collectibles and guns, and find as many secret rooms/areas as possible, but slowly getting tired of this. I wish there were more of a leveling up system implemented like in RogueLegacy to change up your gun, loadout, and sorts. I REALLY DISLIKE the deathnumber at the end of each playthru. I know I died b/c the game is difficult, I don't want to hear loud metallic sounds each and every time. Full Review »
