After seeing all the negative reviews I felt the need to chime in. The developer calls this a lunch break game, and that is exactly what it is. Sometimes you don't have the mental energy or time to play Bloodborne or a story driven game. Sometimes you only have half an hour and you just want to have fun exploring and blowing stuff up. That is where Tower of Guns excels. For those that haven't played it, the way it works is that you start by selecting a gun, and one special ability. Based on the gun and ability you choose it changes how you play the game and potentially allows you to explore different parts of the levels. I've now played 22 times with a variety weapons and special abilities and each play through has been unique and enjoyable. The developer also included some special things that happen after you've died a certain number of times, which was a nice surprise. If I was going to change anything in the game, I would really like the ability to start with more than one special ability/gun, it's really hard to pick just one. In sum, accept this game for what it is and you will really enjoy it. Or don't accept it and play something else, it'll be your loss. Expand

This game, like a newborn child, takes some time getting used to. Fortunately, it takes 27 less years to adjust to ToG. While I'm on the subject, why doesn't my dadgum son get a job. Metacritic doesn't pay me enough to support the both of us. In retrospect, probably shouldn't have married an Atlantic City stripper.

Just give this game 30 minutes of your life and it will reel you in. I spent around 10 hours playing it so it took up almost half of my day. I had a wedding to go to, but what did my sister ever do for me anyway.
In summation, dis game aight. 5/10.

Got this from Sony's PS+ IGC. Kudos to the sole dev for this enjoyable game. Reminds me of my limited gaming in the 90's with Quake and the sort. On average from my 7 deaths so far I have played 35 minutes per life. I'm not sure I'll be incline to continue playing this after a week, even though shooters are not my style. Overall, I enjoy it enough to get all of the collectibles and guns, and find as many secret rooms/areas as possible, but slowly getting tired of this. I wish there were more of a leveling up system implemented like in RogueLegacy to change up your gun, loadout, and sorts. I REALLY DISLIKE the deathnumber at the end of each playthru. I know I died b/c the game is difficult, I don't want to hear loud metallic sounds each and every time. Expand

One of April's free PS+ games Tower of Guns combines the currently popular rouge-like and first person shooter genres. The concept certainly has potential, but it is not realised here. Had the actual shooting mechanics been any good this could have been a lot of fun, unfortunately however the controls are simply awful and there is virtually no variety to the gameplay at all meaning that after half an hour or so (that involved 2 deaths) I had no desire to continue playing any longer. They may not be a rouge-likes but the Borderlands games do something very similar to this and they are a whole lot more enjoyable.

Tower of Guns is the perfect PS+ game. Fun for 3 or 4 hours and then you never feel the need to play it again and glad you didn't pay money for it. It is like somebody applied popular indie rouge-like trends to a Quake 2 mod.

I was looking forward to this game ever since it was compared to The Binding of Isaac. It is nothing like TBoI. It doesn't require skills nor strategy, you just have move and shoot. Probably won't be playing this game again.

So dull. i am sick of trying to like rogue games so if you like rogue games you may like this. i have a lot of forgiveness for fps games but that did not help me enjoy this shallow game. a space wasted on this months ps+ list

Wow, this game is bad. Really bad. It's as if someone sat down and thought 'what sort of things do people hate in an FPS?' Then went and crammed them into one big **** game. It's as if the developer thought 'What key colours can I use to create a feeling of depression and despair so no one can play for more than 5 minutes without wanting to top themselves?'

The enemies are the worst you can imagine in FPS history. Think of all those annoying flying bots you hated from Half life 2, Resistance and Wolfenstein. That's what you will be fighting, lifeless crappy identikit drones.

The music sucks, the roguelike elements just don't suit this genre and the game feels repetitive. I hated all of the hour I put into this utterly terrible game. This month has been weak on ps+ yet again, no surprise there then. Never Alone is worth checking out but Tower Of Guns is another fail making the subscription for ps+ feel ever more expensive and less value for money month by month.

Avoid this game if you don't want your love of FPS tainted.

This game wasn't worth the time it took to download while on free with PS+. I gave it a couple hours and it merely reminded me of all the fun I had playing the various Unreal tournament games and made me wish I was playing any of those instead of this. I think the most insulting this about this game was that Sony thinks these are the kinds of titles we want when we pay them $50 a month.

I pride myself in trying out all the games Ps+ gives me. Tower of guns is a game i wish would of stayed hidden deep in game space.
Sure, it reminds me of the old quake, doom etc fps games which was cool to see but it all falls apart when you start playing. controls feel bad, killing feels inadequate and bosses feel shallow.

the game seems to have some comedic moments and there are some cute robots that you get to meet at the start of the game but, that is it.
Tower of guns is nowhere near, and i do mean, NOWHERE near a 7 score!

Ten years ago "games" like this called as free mod and people were able to play in it by buying Videogame magazines with DVD full of demos and mods. Bad graphics, bad sound, bad gameplay.

This is a fun, simple fps shooter. Generally speaking, you get out of this game what you put into it. The weapons are weird, the stories are quirky, and it's just plain fun. It isn't perfect, movement feels a little stiff, but it is very fun.

Very small, boring game with not much going for it. It doesn't have a lot of content, variety, anything, really. If you want to shoot up things for a few minutes, then maybe you'll like this game, but if you want a better rogue-like first person shooter -- there is a better alternative, Ziggurat.

Fairly fun shooter game, it is really short, but it can be enjoyed. The game has several different weapons and upgrades that you can do, but it feels really buggy.

This game is great if you've got a few minutes and want to mindlessly run through bullet hell rooms. It's a great game to pick up, play a few rounds, and then put back down. That's what it's intended to be, and it does that very well.

Tower of Guns is an old style FPS based on speed, jumps, reflexes and difficulty. With only one life available and the impressive quantity of enemies and bullets, the frustration is often around the corner, but thanks to the numerous upgrades and power-ups, the game never becomes impossible (just a bit confusing).

A quite interesting old-school FPS, that even though it is dated, it's so addictive and cleverly designed that every new try feels like you're playing a different game.
