The game was pretty dull playing on my own. If you play the game try and make sure to get a buddy with you.

It started good, but then it becomes pure grinding and repetition. The same enemies, the same missions. Lots of enemies are just bullet sponges. The city and graphics look nice, this game had a potential to be a lot better.

The Division may at first glance look like your typical cover system third-person shooter, but it has many RPG aspects that give it the edge. Tons of skills to use, weapons, armor, this game in terms of customization is exquisite. Tons of skills to use, weapons, armor, this game in terms of customization is exquisite. Shamefully, the game has several balance problems that remind me of other games of this style such as Horizon Zero Dawn or Patapon 3 (not as bad thankfully), where the recommended level of the mission is often false, and they blow you up despite exceeding it by far, the abusive grinding, or some enemies, even if they arent bosses, sometimes turn into bullet sponges, even enemies that don't seem to have any protection are inexplicably tough, and you have to shoot them like 50 rifle magazines down on their heads, while you could die with two or three shoots.
Apart from the balancing problems, I also have to present my complaints to the Dark Zone mode, which although it is very fun, it becomes a grinding mess to get the best equipment, besides that at a narrative level it does not make any sense. Why in an apocalypse would people stay in an area to fight for weapons and armor just to want to be stronger?
Despite all the criticism, The Division is a very addictive game, and that is why I give it a pretty high score, along with the great customization value, they give hours and hours of replayability. I was close to giving it a 6, but it was fun enough to give it a 7.

The game is not bad but it is to repetitive. I played like 10 hrs and it is always the same, easy mission with dummy NPC that run to you and shoot in the open. The DZ game mode is good but at the end is the same as the story mode.

Vanilla Division 1 has something in it. A potential. But it refuses to use it. Story is below average with no interesting characters and gameplay is sometimes fun, sometimes boring.

    Ok ... here it is:
    1. The JTF NPC suck ... they do nothing. These NPC that are on your side are not helping at all. The enemies just ignore the them and come straight at you full force. Instead of distracting them a little bit (the don't have to do a lot of damage), the enemies just pretend they are not there and come straight at you. This makes some missions impossible to finish solo style.
    2. Crafting weapons is futile. No matter how hard you try to craft a weapon, the vendor will always have a weapon or gear that is far superior than the one you are able to craft. So, why crafting when you can buy a better weapon?!
    3. Considering this is a Ubisoft game, the graphics are not that bad.
    4. The story is interesting.
    5. The shooting is excellent. The recoil is realistic and easily adaptive with no aim-assist.
    6. It is worth a time to play it all the way; play all the missions and encounters.
    7. I miss stealth, but on second-thoughts, stealth does not fit in this pictures, so ... it is better that it doesn't have stealth.

Even though the Division 1 lacks some things i will play it all the way and i will play the Division 2. The game overall is fun and is worth the time.

Definitely an engaging and enjoyable take on the MMO world. Satisfying combat, really great re-created new york, and some chilling story elements about a weird and desperate world. Much better with friends, but can work if you're solo. Looking forward to the second instalment in 2019. Only cons are it becomes a little repetitive.

Also the bullet sponging is terrible. You would have to empty half a magazine of 32 on an enemy just to kill them! With a few notable exceptions, every mission plays out exactly the same as the previous one, due to of the reuse of bosses and lack of distinct locations, which is one of my main issues with this game. The Division doesn't do anything that feels new or unique or interesting. The best open-world games will put some sort of interesting twist on the usual formula, like in Horizon: Zero Dawn there was an excellent combat system for the dinosaurs. In Breath of the Wild there were a lot of creative interlocking mechanics that resulted in tons of moments that were very organic, not to mention being able to run straight to the end of the story mode added a sense of realism to an otherwise very whimsical world. The Witcher 3 added branching story mechanics that aren't often seen in open-world games, and as a result, the story itself felt very vast. The Division really doesn't try to do anything extremely ambitious, and as a result the game ends up suffering because it sometimes feels like it could be any other Ubisoft sandbox game. It plays out every trope that's been used in every other game and does those all acceptably well, but then forgets to add anything new. It has the base of a good game but fails to do anything more than the very basics, yet the base is still there, and despite its numerous shortcomings, the game at points does improve upon the usual formula. The overworld is extremely detailed and even if the rewards are very surface-level, it does feel much more exciting to explore than other games. Even some very old mechanics are improved here, for example the gun mechanics are simple, but add an element of strategy through the turrets the player can set up, and this really brings life to the more played out aspects of the game. Also, I've never played it, I've heard that playing with friends is good. This game is extremely recycled, but due to the small improvements it makes, I didn't end up thinking the game was a complete waste of time, more just a slight improvement on a genre that's been beaten to death by greedy corporations, so I'm going to give the Division a 5 out of 10. Right away, the game visually grabbed me, with its very terrifying and realistic scenario of a biological catastrophe in New York City. This, to me looked as though there was a gripping narrative to be had here. In some ways, there IS and then THERE ISN'T.

What I was hoping for was that main campaign story, of struggle, survival and restoration of order, it wasn't even present. Instead, it's detached into collectibles that serve as tiny morsels and less of a main course potential for a great story. Sure, most of us have been through the dystopian song and dance far too much.

But let's face it, these types of stories are their own sub-genre in fiction. (So you get what you ask for.) Honestly, I felt like I was headed to party hoping for a good spread of food, only to have a few horderves and no drink selection. Despite this, the story does convey the drama well using various methods of presentation, such as security cam footage and audio files that paint a clearer picture of what happens in the Big Apple, before and after the virus hits the streets.

Looking deeper at what actually happens during the game as a result of how the city crumbles piece by piece from political structure to society at its heart, is a fascinating topic. Unfortunately, that required me to be dedicating hours upon hours tracking 500+ collectibles needed to give me the full picture. (Which I did not do, stopping at around 50% with that )

Gameplay wise, it plays pretty smoothly and there are plenty of cool weapons, some gadgets and a variety of explosives to use on the gangs and rioters you encounter. It almost felt like it was developed very similar to the Mass Effect 3 multiplayer section. Damage is calculated through stats and that focus on 3 areas in order to make each player semi unique. It took a little bit to fully understand it, but once I did, there wasn't any problem getting used to managing my gear. Sure, a system has a ton of factors that make it look like a mess.
What bothered me the most, was that there wasn't any manner as it which my player was affected by the virus. ESPECIALLY when entering contaminated areas! I know this is a game, tailored to a wide specturm of gamers. But COME ON, I doubt a mask and a well suited up soldier is going to protect you from infection. At least it woud've been nice to have it as a gameplay mechanic, as there wasn't any real challenge when entering those hot spots.
Visually and musically, the game has its moments with that give a similar feel to John Carpenter's "Escape from New York". Overall the portrayal of the chaos and destruction was the high point of the game! Bodies and trash bags are strewn throughout the city more plentiful than the rats, which is explained due to the NYC sanitation leaving their actual "duties" to do other things and the CDC/Government being too overwhelmed with the body count.

In the end, Division burns you out, as it's gameplay and loot system was VERY addictive, until it just got to be enough and decided to say, "screw it" and finish the campaign.

DLC wise, the Division has a bit more to offer for the dedicated players. First, Underground adds to the single player and co-op, which seems enticing but will wait for a later date, when I feel like going back to it. But I'm sure it worth a look at if you're interested in more campaign content. Second is

Survival, which I honestly couldn't even get an active game going through matchmaking, which really required me to get a group together and do it. That never happened for me, but maybe I'll get an update at a later time.

Last is, Last Stand, which is the PROPER multiplayer experience for the Division, outside of "The Dark Zone" Which is essentially "Capture the Base", with Division's on twist on the game type. Personally, I probably regretted getting the Season Pass, despite it being on sale for $15, which is sad, really.

Personally, the experience was enjoyable and kept me into the game. It presented itself pretty well as a dystopian fiction, overall. But truly lacked that narrative power and kept the gameplay in a safe, AAA title sort of way; vice doing some things that woud've made this a phenominal experience had they taken the chances.

    Overview
Now that the first person shooter market is over run with the same old same old vibe of games it seems third person shooters won’t be out done. With game such as Tomb Raider, Gears of war, and Uncharted setting the bar very high there is little room for error. If that weren’t enough, Tom Clancy’s name and license has all but run its course. Recent games like Ghost Recon: Future Soldier and Rainbow Six Under Siege haven’t done much to uphold the good name of both Ubisoft, and Tom Clancy. With The Division, Ubisoft looks to change this.
    Story
On Black Friday, a smallpox pandemic, transmitted by a virus planted onto banknotes, sweeps through New York City. The disease, called "Green Poison" and "The Dollar Flu", causes widespread chaos, and Manhattan is placed under quarantine. The U.S. Government activates sleeper agents in the population who operate for the Strategic Homeland Division, or simply "The Division", to assist emergency responders, in restoring order. The Division’s story is a deep and intriguing one and satisfyingly unfolds at a slow but nice pace. It was a very smart move by Ubisoft to include a story in this game. Without it things would totally revolve around online play. Games like Evolve and Destiny suffer greatly from an absent story so when a gamer’s internet is down things get boring pretty fast.
    Graphics
The Division has so much going for it graphically that it’s frustrating to see the hiccups that the game goes through. First off, this game at a glance is breath taking. The care and detail given to the city of New York is impressive. Cars react to being shot nicely. Snow and other weather physics are nothing short of amazing. Shadows, lighting, and other little touches are remarkable. With a clean and crisp HUD gamers will easily become immersed as fights unfold throughout the city of Manhattan. Just as quick as you admire the visuals, you doubly will become frustrated. Numerous graphical glitches and bugs plague this great looking game. Clipping, map texturing, and pop ups happen far too frequently. With a game this graphically sophisticated a few hiccups are expected, but it happens way too often.
    Gameplay
The game play is a mix of several games. There are elements of Borderlands, Destiny, and GTA to name a few. You’ll basically be playing an MMO. You build stats buy gear and earn loot. You take control of your agent scour the city in hopes of helping citizens or securing drop zones much like dying light. Unlike Dying Light your best bet is to work with a squad because going at any mission alone is borderline suicide. You dodge, run, and shoot your way through the city. Things are simple and satisfying, but as the game progresses the mastery of your character becomes deep and rewarding. The loot system is a bit broken, but then again what console MMO isn’t? The game lets you create your own character but as you venture online you quickly learn that there isn’t much depth in this area as hordes of online players resemble each other. Load times are an absolute pain in the butt. You will be sitting through cut scenes only to be greeted with black screens as the next area loads. To sum things up the game is fun but gets old real quick.
    Sound
The sound is quite impressive but music itself is absent. The guns sound realistic and other ambient sound fills in the gaps. Sadly music is missing while you play…what’s left is dead silence until either a huge battle or a cut scene takes place. Don’t expect much by the way of sound.
    Replay Value

The replay value is high mostly due in part to the online fun that can be had. You team up with friends and or strangers to tackle the challenges Manhattan gives you. Enter the dead Zone and duke it out with other players, or do the unthinkable and GO ROUGE. The potential for endless fun is there, but unfortunately things get repetitive real fast. The division has potential to be played for years, but what hampers this is the same thing that plagues many games these days. In a word that thing is GREED. It seems publisher’s first concern now-a-days is how can they drain your pockets of every dollar you have. Can’t earn it? Why not buy it? Want weapons or gear that even the odds? Why not buy it? You want DLC after DLC but no bugs fixed? Why not buy it?

Much like Destiny this game comes off as no more than a cash cow. It’s a great game to play online with friends for a while but it soon becomes apparent that you have been there and done it in many other mediocre shooters. So the Division doesn’t do much to set itself apart from those aforementioned titles. The Division is a decent rental but it would be hard to recommend it for purchase, as you will undoubtedly spend way more than the 59.99 price tag in the long run. With that said the division gets a 5 out of 10.

The gameplay was fine at first but devolved into bullet sponge hell. Without friends to co op with the singleplayer becomes nearly unplayable as you have to take down way too many way too powerful bullet sponges. The Dark Zone is worthless and the end game leaves so much to be desired. It's the epitome of just alright and horrible as a loot game.

It won't win converts to the genre and the plot is problematic, but The Division is a handsome open-world offering, spiked with treachery. [May 2016, p.81]

That's the essential nature, and essential problem, of The Division's underlying structure. It's asking you to hunt gear with no tangible reward in terms of what you can do, how you do it, or what you look like doing it. [May 2016, p.108]

It builds a strong foundation on the gameplay front, offering up rewarding combat and simple skills, but doesn’t follow that with anything substantial, being content to let the standard end game grind and excellent-yet-stressful PVP try to cover all the questions its writing leaves you with.
