A lot of the same here - same generic enemies with same attacking patterns only really cranked up with more grenade spamming - seemingly the same street at every turn as NYC is a pretty mundane grid layout in itself. If you enjoy levelling up then fine but I prefer a change of scene! Think I need a good thrillride of a graphic adventure stripped of all the nonsense which hopefully A Thief's End can deliver.... Better than Destiny. It can also be repetitive like that game, but I think this one does the open world online shooting thing a lot better. The graphics are also some of the best I've seen. I wish there was an offline solo campaign.

After a full 2 day live stream I've gotten pretty far in the game. At first I agreed with the comments about this game being repetitive and would have given it a 5 out of 10 but this is definitely one of those games where it gets better much later into the game.

As you uncover more of the story you start fighting against tougher enemies and the objectives start to change a bit. It still suffers from the majority of the missions being similar but I will say the game is a lot of fun once you've settled in.

Story as you expect from Tom Clancy games is pretty good. The shooting controls feel just fine for a 3rd person shooter, with the option of going 1st person using scopes. You can mod weapons, collect gear, change your appearance and build up your skills.

Matchmaking makes the game a lot of fun, and I recommend putting it on harder difficulty settings cause it's too easy on normal. The map isn't too big but it's big enough. But you should know this is the very definition of a cover shooter. You even have abilities that let you create cover. Taking a lot of hits will kill you very fast, but if you use cover and use your abilities optimally you won't encounter too much difficulty.

All in all it's a fun game to play with some friends... but I would recommend maybe waiting for it to go on sale or wait till they add more content. It isn't breaking new ground but it's not completely unoriginal. It's good, not great but good.

Ubisoft's reputation for repetition will only get worse thanks to this game. It sucks cause their games are visually impressive and they're well designed too. I just wish they would put a little more creativity into the objectives.

Graphics aside, the mechanics of the game are really adictive, like destiny. It's really fun to play coop, and the level of difficulty is well balanced. The map is huge and at first the seems like there is loads of content. The shooting is fun, although the enemies seem a bit like bullet sponges and stupid at first.

After playing for several days I feel like it's missing something. It got pretty repetitive sooner than I thought. I need more variety to keep me hooked, I got the same feeling I got with destiny now.

Now onto a slightly less good bit the bullet sponges for enemy's is quite frustrating especially when you come up against enemies wearing armor and even worse when you come up against a pair of armored enemies. think i used around 1000 rounds to take down just one.

One bit of advise for tougher enemies make them fight on your terms keep movement levels high and drag the enemies all over the local area set traps for them with turrets and grenades and eventually you will wear down their armor and be able to take them down.

But like Destiny, there's a point where these type of games wear you down and outlive their welcome. They're like a gold-digging ex-wife that keeps on taking and taking and taking...

The Division taught me a very valuable lesson about gaming; a game that has a definitive end (like a song, a movie, or a book) will leave me wanting more and reflecting with happy memories of a great experience. But a life-sucking POS like The Division or Destiny eventually wither into resentment.

Saying that, in all fairness I can't rate it any lower than a 7... even if I can't stand the damn game now :)

Unfortunately, despite the fact that they're beautiful, the guns all feel the same.
The gunfights are still very satisfying though.

Let's talk about the multiplayer section, The Darkzone. Again, it's a good concept but after a few fun hours you understand there's nothing to do in it.
But, do no forget that you can play the whole game in coop.

So to resume, the game has potential, but needs more content to become a real must-have.

Talking about the graphics, the game looks pretty good, it's not that gorgeus game you saw back in E3 with those spectacular physics, but even so it looks good. I won't say it's a Witcher 3, but for me it fits a good looking game category. The soundtrack is not bad, it has its moments, but is not something remarkable.

As for the game itself, the gameplay is exactly what I expected, a combat cover system with RPG elements, people will feel akward puting an entire magazine of an assault rifle on the head of a human and not killing him, but given the kind of game it is, is what you get. I bet you that that is what most headaches has given Ubisoft.

The main campaign has 26 missions with a not very engaging story, you just don't feel in the skin of your character, as happened with Destiny. This doesn't mean the game is over when you finish the campaign, there are many things to do: Collectibles, side quests, explore the DZ, etc. All this can be done in teams or alone. And that is one of the most positive things I've found, the matching system and team search, you can choose what you want to do (missions, DZ, exploration, etc) and it will automatically group you with people looking to do the same things as you, so if you don't have a guild you can always find someone to play with, well done there Ubisoft.

Regarding the PvP, I will miss the competitive game lists Destiny has, but I'll get over it with Overwatch, Paragon and others realesing this year. This PvP is focused more on a survival, strategic teamplay complementing roles. In the DZ you are in tension at all times, but when you see approaching a team of 4 people and you stay 4vs4 aiming at eachother in complete silence... I believe I haven't experienced that tension ever in any other game and that's what I wanted here.

I found a few bugs to date, which in my opinion are serious because they lead to an appcrash where the game blows up or you get thrown back the start menu. My friends have also found several bugs, but this is Ubisoft we're talking about, for the so low standard that I have about their latest games (looking two years back from now) I think it's ok, which is sad, we should demand the best, but this is what the industry has become. I still remember whole groups of NPCs falling from the sky in Assassins Creed Unity... Eventually it will stabilize and they'll fix it with patches, not to worry, it's a nuisance, yes, but you can still play the game.

There is something that many of my fellow Clan members have told me, they are concerned about the time the game while be "alive", they don't believe (and I don't think it either) it will last as long as Destiny in which we've been together for over two years but has finally bottomed out for us since there hasn't been any new content for over half a year ago. The Division brings free DLCs, which is really appreciated by my wallet, and a season pass that will cover the needs of content for 2016. But 2017, with the large number of multiplayer titles that will come out this year and the next one, will be a difficult year to keep the game up, we'll see how Ubisoft surprises us or if they leave us in the lurch.

At the moment I will continue enjoying the game with my friends, because it is what it is, a game that greatly improves playing in the company. Bye!

It is, however, still fun if you play it with your friends, however, there are better alternatives out there. Rather spend your money on Destiny or Overwatch. I wasn't that excited when I buy this game only because my friend wanted to get it but it seems to exceed my expectations.
I really appreciate this game being a coop campaign and can everything play entirely with friends, now a lot of developers become lazy and doesn't even include a single player campaign or coop elements. (star war, rainbow six) much more social compared to shooter rpg like fallout.. however the map as usual in ubisoft always shows too many points of interest in the map which strips away the fun and unknown excitement of exploration.
Overall a very impressive third person shooter RPG, would really prefer it to be FPS!

The Division! that's right to combat all of the rioters and attempt to cure the virus or whatever.

This game is pretty fun even though the base game like so many others that are releasing being the fore runners of MMO's on console "cough" destiny "cough" has a pretty serious lack of content that guess what? will be fixed when the expansion releases. This isn't to say that the base game isn't fun because it really is especially if you play with others to complete your missions.

This game boasts a pretty cool mod section for your weapons being able to carry 3 in all, consisting of barrel, laser, for grip, magazine, and skin upgrades for your various weapons.
Being able to find clothing customize what your character looks like is pretty awesome i saw a guy yesterday that was dressed in what looked like a SS soldiers uniform however i may be mistaken.

The meat and potatoes of this game is the actual gameplay and while i hate to say it, is the vision of its potential, as you play the division you will constantly think to yourself what is the end game going to be like especially if you are coming from destiny because in MMO's usually the endgame is the best part of the game and the rest just being a grind, ubisoft didn't really do that to much honestly what you see is what you get besides the "Dark Zone" which is a massive PvP area for players that has the best loot in the game where you can team up or go it alone, however if you team up and go all Gomer Pyle and kill your teammates you will be marked as a rogue and face some seriously harsh penalties and whoever kills you will get a pretty hefty reward which has caused encountering rogue players to be pretty rare its usually just new guys doing it to do it once. That's pretty much the endgame....yeah.

So does this game have a lack of content? yes, does it remind you of vanilla destiny because of this? yes. however i really feel like the potential for the division is far greater than destiny's at this point ubisoft seems pretty content on having micro transactions be for items that don't affect progression or gameplay which is great. Ubisoft has been putting it out there of 8 man payer incursions which would be similar to raids in other games and time table for that? idk but hopefully in the first expansion they will extend it all a little bit we will see.

The Division at this point 7/10 due to lack of content but its about time somebody stepped up to combat destiny.

The Dark Zone (The games multiplayer area) can be fun, especially with friends, but I worry about the longevity. Whilst the campaign can be enough to draw someone in, the multiplayer is what will keep people loyal and still playing your MMO. Is the Dark Zone enough? Potentially, but it needs work.

I wanted to avoid comparisons with Destiny, as they are two very different experiences. However, it shares similar upsetting disappointments, upon release, and doesn't meet expectations. Destiny, fortunately, had Bungie and Activisions experience of being able to build an amazing FPS, which kept people coming back.

I really hope Ubisoft can work hard and make this game a success.

You shoot yourself through masses of bullet-sponge enemies and collect all types of new shiny loot for your character while listening to some voice(s) in the background. Even though the story isn't that impressive, the gameplay, the massive( no pun intended) amount of content and the hours of fun you can have with up to three other friends makes up for it.

As mentioned above, there's no lack of content, but I'll admit most of the side-missions are of the same type and has the same kind of objectives, but that's the nature of all the games with a grind element to it.

The dark zone, The Division's equivalent to PvP, is were you'll probably spend most of your time scavenging for better gear and weapons. It can get really tense when you and your buddies try to extract your newly acquired loot while suddenly getting attacked by another group of player controlled scavengers and having to defend the extraction zone and your gear from the rogue agents.

All the reviewers saying this is a bad game clearly can't see the beauty of the game. It's a "different" take on a shooter where the enemies don't die in one hit and "RNG"-luck is a big factor to increase your stats. It's also a pretty game to look at with all of it's details in a snowy, post-apocalyptic New York

It's well worth full price if you have someone to play co-op with. If not, maybe wait for a discount just because it can be a bit frustrating playing on your own, both in PvE and PvP.

Subsequently these factors combined with a lack of variety in the main story left us underwhelmed at the end of The Division. You should, however, spend time in The Division for its atmosphere; its beautifully crafted city is a true accomplishment. The dark zone PvP is great fun but requires a lot of dedication from the player but can so easily turn into a grind.

The best way to play The Division, is to load it up and go exploring, take your time to simply see what the city has to offer. Then team up with friends to alleviate the inevitable grind.

The Darkness Zone is fun and can add some nice tension to the game when you visit it the first few times, but after that it becomes just another area to shoot targets that sometimes happen to be other players, which is fine as the core gameplay is fun but this area feels like it was a missed opportunity. The main problem is that while the city of New York is beautiful it feels like nothing more than a big sandbox. The story is there but because it doesn't directly present itself to you it often times feels like background noise to just shooting more targets, and it's not as if the world is interesting enough to want to learn the story anyway like in a game like Bloodborne.

Ultimately The Division is a good base of a game and there is a lot to expand on, but initially is lacking in any compelling content. Let's hope Excursions change that.

Had fun during the first week of The Division, but now after not playing for a while it seems near impossible to do anything as everyone has surpassed me in gear score and have the best rolls on weapons and such. I'd say wait until the first Expansion comes out if you wish to buy The Division, as you will be able to go through the Dark Zone with ease to get the gear you need for the end game.

This game , like any other , has some flaws. But that doesn't mean it's a bad game. OH come on ! what happened to people? Play the game if you like the genre and the lore , Don't, if you don't. That's that, I give this a solid 7 cuz it deserves that much at the very least. Still , it's a good game to try if you like RPGs or destiny-ish looking games :)

Right away, the game visually grabbed me, with its very terrifying and realistic scenario of a biological catastrophe in New York City. This, to me looked as though there was a gripping narrative to be had here. In some ways, there IS and then THERE ISN'T.

What I was hoping for was that main campaign story, of struggle, survival and restoration of order, it wasn't even present. Instead, it's detached into collectibles that serve as tiny morsels and less of a main course potential for a great story. Sure, most of us have been through the dystopian song and dance far too much.

But let's face it, these types of stories are their own sub-genre in fiction. (So you get what you ask for.) Honestly, I felt like I was headed to party hoping for a good spread of food, only to have a few horderves and no drink selection. Despite this, the story does convey the drama well using various methods of presentation, such as security cam footage and audio files that paint a clearer picture of what happens in the Big Apple, before and after the virus hits the streets.

Looking deeper at what actually happens during the game as a result of how the city crumbles piece by piece from political structure to society at its heart, is a fascinating topic. Unfortunately, that required me to be dedicating hours upon hours tracking 500+ collectibles needed to give me the full picture. (Which I did not do, stopping at around 50% with that )

Gameplay wise, it plays pretty smoothly and there are plenty of cool weapons, some gadgets and a variety of explosives to use on the gangs and rioters you encounter. It almost felt like it was developed very similar to the Mass Effect 3 multiplayer section. Damage is calculated through stats and that focus on 3 areas in order to make each player semi unique. It took a little bit to fully understand it, but once I did, there wasn't any problem getting used to managing my gear. Sure, a system has a ton of factors that make it look like a mess.
What bothered me the most, was that there wasn't any manner as it which my player was affected by the virus. ESPECIALLY when entering contaminated areas! I know this is a game, tailored to a wide specturm of gamers. But COME ON, I doubt a mask and a well suited up soldier is going to protect you from infection. At least it woud've been nice to have it as a gameplay mechanic, as there wasn't any real challenge when entering those hot spots.
Visually and musically, the game has its moments with that give a similar feel to John Carpenter's "Escape from New York". Overall the portrayal of the chaos and destruction was the high point of the game! Bodies and trash bags are strewn throughout the city more plentiful than the rats, which is explained due to the NYC sanitation leaving their actual "duties" to do other things and the CDC/Government being too overwhelmed with the body count.

In the end, Division burns you out, as it's gameplay and loot system was VERY addictive, until it just got to be enough and decided to say, "screw it" and finish the campaign.

DLC wise, the Division has a bit more to offer for the dedicated players. First, Underground adds to the single player and co-op, which seems enticing but will wait for a later date, when I feel like going back to it. But I'm sure it worth a look at if you're interested in more campaign content. Second is

Survival, which I honestly couldn't even get an active game going through matchmaking, which really required me to get a group together and do it. That never happened for me, but maybe I'll get an update at a later time.

Last is, Last Stand, which is the PROPER multiplayer experience for the Division, outside of "The Dark Zone" Which is essentially "Capture the Base", with Division's on twist on the game type. Personally, I probably regretted getting the Season Pass, despite it being on sale for $15, which is sad, really.

Personally, the experience was enjoyable and kept me into the game. It presented itself pretty well as a dystopian fiction, overall. But truly lacked that narrative power and kept the gameplay in a safe, AAA title sort of way; vice doing some things that woud've made this a phenominal experience had they taken the chances.

Apart from the balancing problems, I also have to present my complaints to the Dark Zone mode, which although it is very fun, it becomes a grinding mess to get the best equipment, besides that at a narrative level it does not make any sense. Why in an apocalypse would people stay in an area to fight for weapons and armor just to want to be stronger?
Despite all the criticism, The Division is a very addictive game, and that is why I give it a pretty high score, along with the great customization value, they give hours and hours of replayability. I was close to giving it a 6, but it was fun enough to give it a 7.

    Ok ... here it is:
    1. The JTF NPC suck ... they do nothing. These NPC that are on your side are not helping at all. The enemies just ignore the them and come straight at you full force. Instead of distracting them a little bit (the don't have to do a lot of damage), the enemies just pretend they are not there and come straight at you. This makes some missions impossible to finish solo style.
    2. Crafting weapons is futile. No matter how hard you try to craft a weapon, the vendor will always have a weapon or gear that is far superior than the one you are able to craft. So, why crafting when you can buy a better weapon?!
    3. Considering this is a Ubisoft game, the graphics are not that bad.
    4. The story is interesting.
    5. The shooting is excellent. The recoil is realistic and easily adaptive with no aim-assist.
    6. It is worth a time to play it all the way; play all the missions and encounters.
    7. I miss stealth, but on second-thoughts, stealth does not fit in this pictures, so ... it is better that it doesn't have stealth.

Even though the Division 1 lacks some things i will play it all the way and i will play the Division 2. The game overall is fun and is worth the time.

Leveling in The Division is very enjoyable. Apocalyptic New York City has been lovingly crafted in fine detail and really sets the stage for the story. The story itself is simply OK - it's not the greatest but it's not bad either. The gunplay is well doneand the six weapon types all feel distinct and meaningful. There is a lot of fun to be had running around in a small group, switching roles based on talents. Even the Dark Zone (more on this in a moment) is a blast while leveling, as it's separated into level brackets to keep things even and (more or less) fair.

There are problems that hold back the basic leveling side of the game. The side-missions and resource encounter missions are extremely repetitive and you will be doing the exact same things in each zone. Elite and veteran NPC mobs and bosses are bullet sponges. The game is riddled with texture bugs including falling through the world, guns that sometimes randomly float above or beside teammates, grenades that don't display an animation or make a sound, occasional invisible items that can lock you in place, and enemies that don't fully appear on screen until you're directly on top of them. Friendly AI is dumb as a box of rocks and never shuts up. Of course, the game ALSO suffers the Ubisoft Syndrome, which is to say the map is littered with hundreds of collectibles.

    On end-game: Score - 2
Once you reach 30 and have gotten full superior-level gear (an easy feat to achieve), the wheels fall off the bus.

If you want to progress in any meaningful fashion after max level, you need Phoenix Credits, Dark Zone credits and High-End crafting materials, including high-end Division Tech materials. The means to obtain these items are extremely limited and, as such, "end-game" is extremely barebones.

The Dark Zone (DZ) is a set of PvEvP hybrid zones where players can kill enemy AI or engage in rogue PVP and kill other players. The first six zones are separated by DZ rank (from ranks 1 to 30) and the final two zones are for "high end" DZ rank (ranks 31-50+). It's an interesting concept in theory but in practice it's horrible.

The loot the NPC mobs drop in the DZ simply is not all that rewarding until you get to the final two tiers. This means grinding 30 DZ levels just to get into the higher two tiers where you might have a better-than-zero chance of finding high-end gear. Likewise, the best crafted items from the DZ are gated behind DZ rank 50 blueprints. The DZ is just a zone to grind in, meandering around killing for DZ rank until you reach 50 when you can finally buy decent 'rewards'. The problem with this is that your progress can be completely stopped by rogue PVP agents because, when you are killed for ANY reason in the DZ, you *lose* experience, credits, and chest keys. You also lose any loot you've picked up but not yet extracted out of the DZ. I would be fine with this risk/reward scenario if the devs hadn't made recent changes to the game that reduces the penalty for going rogue, essentially promoting griefers and gankers. If you weren't DZ rank 50 before the most recent patch, good luck getting there.

This isn't the only change they've made that makes DZ a pointless slog. They've nerfed the frequency of NPC bosses in the DZ and severely nerfed the amount of Phoenix Credits you can obtain from bosses. After this latest patch, although not listed in the notes, it has become rare to find high-end level division tech crafting materials, which are needed for ALL of the DZ blueprints.

Put simply, the DZ is another a grindfest with extremely nerfed drop rates, except this grind also includes players who are given the green light to be jerks, making ranking up more annoying if not outright impossible.

That leaves the end-game PVE dailies. With only four total challenge modes and two daily hard modes earning enough to buy weapons and blueprints from the vendors at the Base of Operations is atrocious. Bear in mind that challenge modes require a competent team with decent gear and can take anywhere from 30 mins. to 3+ hours depending on the mission. Unless you have the time and friends required to spend all day grinding challenge modes, progress will be painfully slow.

After obtaining a few high-end items, I've already become tired of the grind. It is, IMO, arguably worse than vanilla Destiny at launch (and I'm certainly no Destiny fanboy, check out my scathing reviews for Destiny here). At least vanilla Destiny offered many more scaled up end game strikes, a split between PVE and PVP gear paths, dedicated PVP, an initial raid with raid gear, and public events. Back in 2014, I compared that to other pseudo-MMOs and called Destiny's offerings barebones. Sadly, The Division has set a new bar for barebones end-game. Given how enjoyable the 1-30 leveling path was, I'm deeply disappointed in the state of The Division's end game.

    All things considered: 6.0

Wait a year and see how this pans out. It's only fun for about three days at this point. Oh yeah, and the "PvP" is non-existent. Broken at best. PvE is awful too.

    6/10 and that's being generous.

The Division is a long way off a great game with so many strange design choices and faults, but it's still fun to aimlessly run around ruined New York with friends completing missions, even if the overarching purpose of the whole thing is somewhat nebulous.

5 stars just for the beautiful environment, smooth gameplay and intuitive fighting and cover mechanics. From there it's a bit of a grind though. The story is hardly original, and the missions aren't exactly riveting. A lot of task-monkey repetition. The Division is like Dying Light without the zombies, parkour, and fun. This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Story:
The division have a nice background story and a well created open world environment that reflect the post-apocalypse NYC. The story about the outbreak and what happened to the first wave agents are excellent and worth spending time to discover the pieces. However, the story progress through the main story missions is mediocre. There is no choice or option for the player to pick, and no moral engagement of player’s action. When you progress through the story and side missions, the only influence you make is limited to the base of operation and the dialogue of several NPCs. After all you have done, what you see during the free roam is mostly the same. While in the 2014 E3 trailer the agents restrained to open fire; and the 2015 E3 trailer it emphasized that the divisions as the last resort to save what remain, the actual gameplay ended up encourage you to fire chips over chips of bullets into enemies’ head. Not only because the enemies take quite a lot of hit to die, also because every single story mission ended up asking you to eliminate every single enemy on sight. This setting seems to contradict the very original idea of the game.

    Gameplay:
Despite the story settings, the gameplay of the first story play through is fun and enjoyable. The hard mode is probably the best part of the game, that you would need to utilize your skills and talents as your advantage… until you and your teammates become overgeared and steamroll it.
For the end-game, there are four challenge mode missions. The challenge mode basically multiplies the armor and firepower of the enemies and give some enemies skills to counter/resist the stun locks. As long as your team know how to deal with the “rushers”, the rest of the mission is not that difficult. If your team is under geared, you would likely end up in a 1-2 hours tedious long fight.
Dark Zone is one of the highlighted elements of the game. However, it struggles between the PvE and PvP gameplay. As for PvE, the dark zone area is not particularly big, that most groups will cycle though several of the easier enemy strongholds and loot spots, meaning that every time you enter the dark zone for PvE, you are mostly doing the same things as the last time you enter. As for PvP, it comes other problems. Firstly, as this is not a tactical shooter, and weight heavily on gears, the PvP is not likely a fair fight (until everyone in the dark zone obtained the top tier gears). Secondly, the NPC enemies become annoying obstacles, even you want to focus on PvP, you would need to clear the NPC enemies in the area first to prevent them interrupt you during the PvP.

    Others:
The weather effects in game is visually impressive; however, it does not change much of the gameplay. For example, the snow storm would block your sights, but does not affect the NPC’s)
There are quite a lot of game crashing bugs, and the loading time is quite long. (1 mark is deducted from this)

TL,DR: Nice background story and open world environment; mediocre main game story; fun and enjoyable before end-game; not so enjoyable end-game

With a team of people it definitely has fun moments, but I would never want to play this solo.

If the enemies were varied, the voice acting wasn't THE WORST, the AI was smarter, the story was better this game could be amazing. It's a great concept done very averagely. Here's hoping Ghost Recon Wildlands is done right!

This game does not let you play at all when the servers are not available or if your connection is down, so keep that in mind, me personally I think it is ridiculous not to have an offline game.

The game is great looking and I love the premise of the game and several other aspects but the fact that you have to shoot one enemy gunman 300 times before you kill him (in the head most of the shots) is a little too unrealistic. I hope it gets better as time goes on and they make improvements.

I tried to play the game this morning and the servers were down again for an estimated 3 hours. WHAT! That is ridiculous, I only have a short window of time to play usually and when I try to get on and the servers are down again it's just so disappointing. Too bad that's all the actual story you get. A vague concept of gathering power, security, and medical supplies, to upgrade your home base that somehow also increases your individual combat ability, giving you perks and various abilities. The combat is actually very fun. If you can look past the fact that it takes a ridiculous amount of bullets to the head to kill an average enemy and hundreds to kill a boss, the combat is interesting and fun, with a strong emphasis on staying behind cover and waiting for the right time to strike. Multiplayer can also be very fun. Grouping together with FRIENDS can lead to some very strategically entertaining battles that make you feel like a badass, but only if you partner with friends. Grouping with random players is only seemed to me, to make the game massively unenjoyable. Enemy difficulty is ramped up and health is drastically increased, and with random players, there is little to no cooperation and a lot of deaths. Getting to level 30 for me was not entirely a drag, I frequented the dark zone, which is fun in small bursts for me, but too much drove me insane. all in all the game is slightly above average, but not what I'd expect from a game I've been waiting for for 3 years Expand

It has fairly decent RPG elements, character building, skill trees, etc, it has fairly decent shooter mechanics, the actual gun play is ok, the computer A.I. is fairly decent, they team up, and flank, etc, nothing groundbreaking, the quests are pretty basic, go here, collect this, switch this, kill him/her, and here lies the problem, it's fairly decent at most things, but that is about it, It does not excel in any one area. One of the biggest problems was with the 'bullet sponge' effect you get when engaging an enemy with a higher skill level than yourself, I understand this is the nature of RPG gaming, but with the games setting, it feels alien, at one point it took three of us to bring down one npc, with me personally having to reload multiple times, it felt completely wrong considering the games realistic setting. Add to that some lackluster voice acting, forgettable characters, and it all just seems very average.....

Max.lvl can be achieved in a day, and I haven't figured out what's worth to do afterwards. I think ubisoft is going to have a hard time to keep their playerbase playing.

The reason I did give a 6 though are the awesome graphics (I run it on Ultra) and character gameplay. You can modify your character in many different ways with talents, weapons, mods and decide what kind of asset you want to be in your team.(Even though it doesn't really matter, as long as you shoot bullets it's good enough). I ultimately found this game to be lackluster. In addition, there is plenty of cringe worthy dialogue that ruins immersion and makes the game overall feel less serious than what you would expect.

Then all of the sudden things started to get boring. I were just running around doeing side quest and unlocking perks for the sake of unlocking them. I wen't to dark zone to see if its any fun but it was complete deal breaker for me. Big area with some bullet spongis elite mobs. People that may kill you for the sake of getting killed them self by someone else. Loot was over average but dropped ridiculous amounts of it if you died. So now you may think I should just go pvp style, steal loot and smile but no, you see here is one of the biggest flaws of this whole pvp dark zone. If you kill or even shoot at someone you are marked as a rogue to everyones minimap and can be killed without any penalty. Why don't I just run away with loot? Darkzone loot needs to be extracted with helicopter from few predetermined zones making it too hard to actually run away without being killed.

The game begins with a very basic character creation system, you can choose between a few different head shapes, skin colors, tattoos, scars etc. Nothing really fancy, and "Basic" is the key word here because everything in this game is just like your character's creation: basic.

The missions to gain credits to develop your HQ are basically all the same and there are a lot of them: Secure an area (understand: kill 50 mobs), Protect some supplies (understand: kill 50 mobs before they destroy the supply boxes) and Collect some stuffs and bring them back somewhere (understand: kill 50 mobs and spend 5 minutes walking with a heavy suitcase which slows you down drastically).

The main and secondary missions are a bit more inspired, yet nothing to go crazy about. The game is heavily scripted (ie: the enemies behind huge glass doors on the top floor of a building won't move if you haven't cleared the lower floors first...) and the AI is pretty basic not to say stupid.
The mobs are basically all the same with a few skin differences: The gangsta with a weapon (baseball bat or a shield + axe or gun), and the "cleaners" with a weapon (a flame thrower or a gun). The bosses are uninspired too (mostly a normal mob on steroid) and there is little difficulty defeating them.

The weapons customization is pretty cool though, you have 6 mod slots on your weapons to improve them. That's very cool and they really affect your weapons stats. The talent tree is also interesting even if you will most likely use the same talents all the time.

Unlike Destiny, you won't see any players in the PVE part of the game (except your team mates of course), and you will only see other players in some secure areas such as your HQ.
The PVP zone (the Darkzone) is fun (except when being chain killed by a group of 4 rogue agents) and stressful. You never know if that guy who helped you for an hour will betray you when it will be time to extract your loots.

Verdict: 6/10, that's not a bad game, but it's far from what I was expecting after watching the trailers.

Starting with positives, gun customization and mods give looting a huge dimension to expand upon. The third person shooting is completely solid, and the cover system will feel very familiar to any Gears of War veterans. Perks and talents can be adapted to suit any style of play, rather than a black or white, pick this or pick this, kind of class system which is excellent. Not to mention, the world is absolutely gorgeous and, whether you love the game or not, you will spend hours invested in this broken New York City.

Now for the negatives. Though the world is brilliant, the "story" involved in the game is fairly laughable. It might seem interesting at first, but if you can tell me one characters name by the end then I will be impressed. PvP is unbelievably punishing, and it makes me wonder why it wasn't just included in the regular game, as it would justify the 'always online' requirements as well as leave the Dark Zone open for ACTUAL PvP. Bosses are bullet sponges with absolutely no variety, and a thoroughly underwhelming final boss. Lastly, character customization is hilariously shallow, considering the effort put into the gun customization.

I was going to give this game an 8/10, but the end game content as well as the disappointing Dark Zone pulled the score down to a low 7, lucky not to be a 6.

The Division is best enjoyed in co-op and thats where the real fun comes from, teaming up with players to take down a large convoy is satisfying. A solid shooter, but not revolutionary. Expand

The Division is a pretty fun game with good gun play and the co-op is really fun.

But the problem with it s the fact that it gets boring after 20 hours of game play and the story in not good at all.

    A medium game.

However this is The Division, a third person action game.

It says tons when a company put an embargo on a game but this game had no embargo, because Ubisoft decided there would be no review copies given out to reviewer. After playing the game I know why.

First of the enemies are bullet sponges. When you empty a clip to an enemies head and he keeps on coming there is some majorly wrong. It is amazing how much damage this enemies take. You can run out of bullets just on four enemies because they just do not go down. I have no idea what Massive was trying to accomplish by doing this other than annoy the player. I do not see why a human enemy has to be a bullet sponge. I understand monsters, aliens or even armored soldiers but these are just plain thugs. It is so effen annoying it make me want to scream. Even Destiny with all it problems did not have all these bullet sponges and they were aliens.

Then the games suffers from bad designs and invisible walls. When you are faced with a open sidewalk and you can't get across due to some invisible wall it is so annoying. In the mission when you have to get a guy who is in charge of power and you can't jump unto a wall only to be spotted by a thug with a fire gun.

Finally, the controls are horrendous. I cannot begin ti describe how bad they are. You have all this loot and you are bound by what level you are at. What is the use of giving items if you can use them until a later level. At this point I am so disgusted at the game that I'm about to call Ubisoft to get my money back.

A lot of people gave Bungie a hard time for an unfinished game but in my opinion this is worse. Shame on you Ubisoft, shame on you.

All my friends from Destiny were trying this game and I also enjoyed the idea of a Dark Zone as well as the challenging challenge mode, which had me playing this for a good few weeks.

Then the incursion 'Falcon Lost' came along, it was designed to challenge Destiny's acclaimed Raid where a fire-team collectively worked to overcome a challenge. Going over where it succeeded - the matchmaking which allowed individual players to find a team. Where it failed- everything else, mere days after Falcon Lost launched, players discovered bugs that let players cheese the incursion for the high end reward, honest players ended up falling behind due to this.

Ubisoft then fixed this bug, then there were two more, fix those two and there are four more, you get the picture. Then Ubisoft decided to punish players for exploiting bugs that they didn't address properly by issuing bans/ restrictions - only problem, they have not fixed this mess of a game yet.

At this point, the best best for my friends who have bought the game + season pass is to wait till the paid expansions come out, and to hope for better. When the game came out, I was all excited and dished out money for a season pass, The Division has taught me to actually wait for some time after playing the game to see if you want the season pass - right now, it is one of my most regrettable purchases. 5/10.

Gameplay is your standard 3rd person cover system. There are a decent amount of weapons in game to find and use but there's nothing that really stands out. The world itself is decent. I personally don't know anything about NYC but it looks like they got everything right. The biggest problem is the Dark Zone area. Basically the PVP area that you're forced to play to do and get anything in the end game. It's very tough, very demanding, and makes me want to stay away but I know I can't without getting the best gear. However it's Ubisoft's lack of foresight into what should have been the future of the game that killed it off. The game is basically on life support right now and they just tried to release an update patch to fix alot of the gear issues and things that turned people off from the game. However, with only 1 of the 3 expansions that have been promised being released so far, this game may have already had it's eulogy written by that awful Dark Zone decision.
It's a decent game but could never have lived up to the hype. I personally enjoyed it but only to an extent. I won't buy the first xpac that game out and I certainly won't buy any further xpacs that come out in the future.

The game isn't very violent so you can play in front of children, but the problem was the random f bombs coming out of enemies mouths. It could have been like Borderlands but they really ghettoed up the game. The story is really annoying as well with just unlikable shock factor characters that cuss too much and are uninteresting and extremely insecure, opinionated. The biggest mistake was adding foul words so parents can't play this in front of their kids with little violence and no blood. I understand it's a european country and they have problems with understanding American culture, so there's a lot of ideas that I believe came from them. So they cut their audience in half just with that aspect of it. The other issues was the lgbt and basically no straight girls in the game whatsoever. It's a game of lesbians and that's it. It's a world where women don't want to be with men anymore. This is also from watching American TV and assuming that's what Americans want. That cuts the audience in half again. Only games like black ops can pull off the sadistical cool atmosphere and Ubisoft just feels like they are trying too hard to please an audience that barely exists. If the game wasn't trying to preach it's liberal religion on people it could have gotten a 9/10. It's a fun game and has a lot to offer as the second of its kind (CMO). It's a real shame. I wish they would talk to a marketing person for the American culture for 15 minutes and learn some real basics on story telling and keeping the atmosphere and story safe from causing people to be uncomfortable, disappointed, and annoyed. Sadly not as good as the reviews say. The fact that you have to empty an entire magazine into a base-level bad guy before they die is stupid. Bullets bounce off a target's skull because their HP says that they are still alive. It's sucks all the skill out of the game and is very frustrating when the enemies can simply plug you with a couple of shots in comparison. Not recommended.

The game starts off in a promising way. Virus - tick, good graphics - tick, lots of weapons and kit - tick. Unfortunately it then starts to reveal it's true colors.

Grinding and bullet sponges, that pretty much sums up the game. The game doesn't scale up in difficulty, the enemies just morph into super armored bullet sponges. You'll be making multiple trips to ammo crates just to take down a single high-level enemy (this is even worse in the Dark zone, where ammo crates are non-existent). In order to stand any chance against the impervious foes you'll be grinding for XP and dosh, but then you'll max out at level 30 when the progression system throws another curve ball. Your rating now depends on the level of your gear (which often doesn't equate to its usefulness), so you'll need to equip sub-standard gear sets just to get a decent gear score!

You'll now be a millionaire but all that cash won't buy you d***. Instead you'll now be grinding for Phoenix credits, which are rationed like pitiful pocket money, to buy any better kit. You'll be replaying missions over and over again just to get these precious coins. Oh and the much heralded incursions have the most boring design you could possibly imagine - They're just large open areas with swarms of yet-more bullet sponges.

And then there's the "Dark Zone". This could have been the big fun part of the game but it's actually more boring than replaying missions. More bullet sponges and the added "excitement" of any other player turning rogue and taking you out at any moment - genius. Oh and you loose XP for bleeding out, and can't revive yourself without a long walk from the nearest respawn point - Yawn.

Let's just throw a few more logs on the fire:

    - A pointless animation when you open an ammo crate that means a queue forms when you're in a multiplayer mission. WTF?
    - An impenetrable skills system that makes no sense, and little difference to your performance.
    - Other online players appearing in safe houses but nowhere else. Why?
    - Too many objects you can hide behind but can't shoot from.
    - A kit system that favors armor over firepower.
    - The inability to fast travel to side missions so that you use up your ammo tackling random mooks before you get there.

It's a firm 5/10 which means i'm still playing it, until something better comes along, but it's no AAA title. More like a C-

RPG/MMO, challenging game play, full customization, a solid longer term development (3+ years in the making). Was the answer to Destiny? I hoped so.... I was sold.

I went all in. I put a hundo down for the Gold Edition.

    The reality:

Simply put, the game is absolutely beautiful to the eye. Character creation is limited in choice and customization. I read reviews before the release date that said this item would be expanded. If this happened, it was by much. Disappointed, but not a huge deal by any means. BUT this can be taken a step further in regards to acquired gear for appearance. I have certainly found my fair share, but everything seems to be a recolored version of another item. I went from a white jacket, to a grey jacket... later found a blue one. My guys looks just the other two team members. Oh wait, that one guy has a helmet. I can actually tell him apart! Hey buddy name is now "helmet". If we find another helmet, your name will be "blue helmet" tho because you'll look just like the other guy with a helmet.

So that's a little frustrating. Not much variety there.... at all. UNLESS you purchase some stuff from the online UBI store.

Weapons customization is admittedly cool. I think it's lacking on execution. Weapons have thus far run into the same issues in terms of visual variety. However, your instruments of destruction can be upgraded with a variety of accessories, so far the benefits haven't earth shattering but they do give show up visually when added to a weapon. Now here's my BUT. Weapons don't feel as individual as they do in Destiny or even Call of Duty. They pretty vanilla. by any means. This was something that Destiny nailed IMO. At this point, I feel like games should be out performing each other. Kinda feels like a step back in this regard. Also, their random benefits are nearly as cool as Destiny's. I get it tho, this is a separate game, "different game style" blah blah blah. Got it.

Villains. Point blank. Boring as hell. It's a un-felt grind. No crazy maniacs that are losing their minds like in Boarder Lands. The head bosses are very anticlimactic and I hardly notice that I'm battling one until a few minutes into the fight. It usually clicks while I have my cross-hairs zoomed... holy crap, this guy looks a little different! No wonder its taking us 5 minutes to blast riddle him.

The game play itself isn't intuitive, but that perfectly. It takes some getting used too. However, it's not fluid. You find some cover, shoot, and can bound by targeting another location and hold down on the x putting for a short moment. That "short moment" is my point of contention. When you want to scramble, it might not happen unless you have a premeditated plan. Again, this is a different game. Got it. Check.

The rest of the issues I can easily dismiss as just another early bird release. It seems to happen with every game. Even the ones that have been in the planning for from 3 to 10 years). I clip through the ground for no reason, or trying to get into a group causes me to log out. Simple game crashes.... these things happen right? Can't hold it against Ubi.

So I've had the game for three days and took a day off to put in some solid game play. The verdict? I'm bored. I can help thinking that I purchased a beefed up version of the MMO Defiance for PC. I hate to say it but Defiance may have held my attention for a little longer. Just a little.

It is very... very... repetitive. The Story was okay, and I was a little upset when I collected all collectible items, only to just get jackets as a reward. The PVP area just feels... frustrating at times. I can't say that I haven't had fun going Rogue in the Dark Zone, but I also can't say I am having an absolute blast. So after the campaign, this is what you'll do... Loot items, shoot an enemy, loot items, shoot the same enemies, loot items, run, extract, run, shoot the same enemies, loot, run, extract, run, shoot the same enemies.... OVER AND OVER AND OVER.... it get's a little mind numbing.

The PVP area can be fun, if you aren't put at a large disadvantage via numbers game or someone rigging their gear score to stay in a lower tier. if you come across someone who does rig their gear score, then you are NOT going to have a good time. You'll just die... and die... and die... and get loot... then die... I don't really get that mentality. To rig your gear score, you'd be doing the equivalent of pushing empty water bottles over... it'd be too easy. I don't see the fun in that. If your gear score is greater than another player, you will most likely kill them pretty quickly... you'll grab their gear... extract it.. then rinse and repeat...

I know my review seems repetitive, but that is what the game is. Initially you'll have a blast, then it will fade a little after you beat the campaign. Is it worth playing.... yes... Is it worth $60+.... NO! I'd suggest to wait until it goes on sale via PSN. By then the map packs will be out, and it might be worth a buy. Until then, I'd find something else a little more personally rewarding. I hope this helps.

To talk about the good first, the world is beautifully designed. New York City looks great and the attention to detail really shows. From the integrated seamless advertising that is found in the city to the way footprints are left on snow topped cars when u climb them. Right now thats out of the way, on to its issues which include gameplay, story, and multiplayer!

    Gameplay:

One of the most important factors of any game. The Division scores low here. First off, all what the game play involves here is hiding behind cover, advancing, and shooting a crap load of bullet sponge enemies which only seem to need more bullets to die when you level up. Yes get better weapons they say. This requires even more grinding of said bullet sponges, for weapons which look exactly the same as to the ones from when you are level 1. Only difference is there stats are better. Thats all good, but to keep me playing I wish there was more variety when it came to the weapons. It needs more than just some better damage numbers to make me play for the long term. Those better damage stats dont even seem to make much difference as you encounter more absorbant bullet sponges as you progress. The customisation and mods for weapons and armour has been executed nicely. But the crafting system just feels so below par when compared to alot of other games in the market, .i.e. Fallout 4s crafting anyone? As for the skills, I wish there were more of those then talents and perks which only give stat bonuses which are hard to notice. Example, one perk gives reduced incoming damage when you dash from cover to cover. I love the skills, like throwing a turret, or a rolley ball grenade because it adds so much in the way of tactics and dynamism to the game. Unfortunately there are only a few to choose from. As for armour and gear, yea there are subtle differences, but it all looks pretty much the same. Character customization is another flawed feature to this game. Only a few faces to choose from, and minor customization allowed to the way they look when. Other similar games have a ton in the way of customization from body size to the way a nose looks.

As for the interface, when you first bring up options so much is thrown in your face its daunting. So many stats options may seem like a good idea, but the execution is poor here.

Controls are OK, but awkward when in cover and getting flanked. As for cycling between the different grenades and special items (explosive bullets and canned food?) its a real challenge. Bringing up what you need fast is more difficult than it needs to be. Yes im an average player, but being a good player doesnt mean neccesarily mean your good because you can pull out a snack bar from your inventory fast enough to stop burning ( snack bars remove status effects like fire.....go figure).

Another thing, the whole world feels empty. Nothing interesting happening other than finding some clues around town or crashed drones. You just walk across the city taking on one similar mob, only to pop around the corner to find another similar mob. Where is the immersion? There is a virus on the loose?

Back to the bullet sponge enemies. There are three groups, rikers, cleaners and another group (thats how memorable it was). But they are all pretty much the same. They fight the same way, react the same, have same classes which arent that much different. Its all just the same. Even the bosses are basically the same. No real unique abilities just bullet sponges. If your going to play ths game at least do so with friends, to lighten the mood. People compared this game alot with destiny. They are both very different games, but I can see where some people may feel tempted to compare it. Thing is though, where destiny failed with story, it succeeded with solid FPS shooting and a decent multiplayer system. Finally, the side missions where fun at first. But all those encounters just became so tedious. How many supplies do I need to secure or missing persons do i need to find in a play through. Enough already! Take the standard set by the witcher 3 and shake up things!!

    Storyline

Not much to say here other than the whole idea of cell agents being activated to restore order where an organized military and government fail to be rather far fetched. The whole atmosphere is someway cliche and cheesy. Always going back to the base of operations and being told what a hero I am feels like too much *** kissing. I mean just take it down a notch. As for the characters in the storyline. I cant remember one of them, and nothing seemed to matter in the end it was underwhelming, unmemorable, and all rather.."meh".

    Multiplayer

First few hours were interesting, but in the end its just the grind for finding better. As for going rogue, the game doesnt want you to go rogue and punishment outweighs the rewards.

Overall, average game which has a good world design, but fails to deliver in fundamental gaming areas.
