In the areas money can't buy, it stumbles; its driving model, AI, and repetitive mission structure all cry out for more elegant design, and combine to leave Wildlands in the strange position of looking expensive but feeling cheap. Its blithely misjudged tone and directionless structure suggests design on autopilot, and empty bigness is no longer enough to carry an open-world game on its own. The game's premise may come straight from Trump's paranoid playbook, but its hollow extravagance is arguably the more damaging point of comparison. [May 2017, p.106]

We live in a world where very serious questions are being asked of western interventionism and imperialism, colonialist attitudes, and the nationalism of western powers. With ISIS and Syria, we’re finally starting to realise that over a century of meddling, king making, and warring in places like the Middle East and South America has left many of those places in a state of endless humanitarian disaster. And in this context Ubisoft decided it was the right time to release a game that outright celebrates all of these things that we need to question about western – and particularly American – foreign policy. Wildlands is repugnant for the way it blindly celebrates the many evils wrought on the innocent in these places. It’s utterly unforgivable trash, and that’s tragic, because there is a decent – albeit derivative - game underneath all its posturing.

As an open world co-op game Wildlands mistakes scope for depth and leaves the player with a monotonous and shallow action game consisting of a bare minimum of parts and elements most players will have already experienced many times before. Skip it.

Wildlands is a bad fu.king game -- it completely fails at everything it aspires to be. It's a bad co-op game, it's a bad shooter, it's a bad open-world game, and the writing is terrible. At best, the game is boring. At worst, it's frustrating. I suppose the visuals are worthy of some praise, but you can just look at screenshots for free. I cannot recommend Ghost Recon Wildlands to anyone, unless you're directly related to someone on the development team. If that is the case, by all means, support your family! Everyone else: stay away.

The result is a Ghost Recon game that doesn’t really feel like a Ghost Recon game and an online game that doesn’t seem like it has the legs to carry most players through to its finale. Wildlands has all of the beauty and splendour of any big-budget open world—its rendition of Bolivia might be the greatest space that Ubisoft has created since Assassin’s Creed: Brotherhood’s artistic replication of Rome—but it’s sparse in variety and slipshod in execution. An abundance of bugs, terrible writing, and repetition do their best to mar what is a solid, occasionally laughter-filled co-op shooter experience.

Wildlands is an environment worth lingering over, but the mechanics and themes it propagates are wearing extremely thin.

Been playing since it went live solo, I do plan to play coop down the road, but I wanted to let people know solo is great. I had read peopleBeen playing since it went live solo, I do plan to play coop down the road, but I wanted to let people know solo is great. I had read people hating on A.I. during beta, but just put a couple early skill points in sync shot and it works great. The stealth and sprawling open world, the banter of your teamates really make for an immersive experience. I feel like this game took the best aspects of far cry, division and watchdogs and threw out the crap. I have no regrets on this purchase, and I doubt fans of shooters, stealth and open world games will either. Full Review »

Do yourself a favor and skip this one. Ubisoft has failed miserably with both Watchdogs, For Honor, and the Uplay disaster. The customerDo yourself a favor and skip this one. Ubisoft has failed miserably with both Watchdogs, For Honor, and the Uplay disaster. The customer support is also a disaster. Only replying to those who approve of their downscaled games. Plauged with bugs, server issues, and framerate drop offs, this is game is going to die a quick death. Full Review »
