Titan Souls is a game with a very simple premise, one shot to kill, one shot to be killed. And while the variety of monsters are quite nice, the problem is with its difficulty curve, there is none, one boss you might find very difficult, the next could be quite easy.
Graphics are meh, not much of a story, so basically you have a three hours max game to enjoy killing random monsters.

In all honesty there is a little too much time spent wandering around the environments between battles but the fights against the Titans, which are effectively the entirety of the gameplay, are fortunately entertaining. Titans can be killed by just one arrow in the right spot but just one hit from them will also result in your death, this makes for some intense battles as you search for an opening whilst trying to avoid the attacks coming your way. Some may find this challenge oversteps the mark into frustration at times but for the most part it just about stayed the right side of the line for me personally.

It’s not a classic but Titan Souls will provide a good 3-4 hours of entertainment for those looking for a good challenge.

Game is really hard, but if you play it enough it will not be much of a challenge. The game is not really anything you should pick up at full price unless you really enjoy games for their difficulty.

    Pros:
    - Incredibly rewarding battles. I got to my feet and pounded my chest when I beat the Truth.
    - Tight, responsive controls
    - Beautiful pixel art style
    - Runs perfectly, never had a slow down or crash
    - Each of the 19 titans feel unique; each a new puzzle to solve

    Cons:
    - About a 3 hour run time, with the developers expecting that you'll want to play through again to pad length
    - A handful of the Titans feel too simple, making beating them not overly enjoyable

    Mixed:
    - A handful of the tracks in the game are memorable (mainly the haunting theme of The Elder, the chugging tracks of the burning mountain, and those accompanying the final three titans), but the rest fall flat, feeling generic and unimpressive.

For most, this will be over in a sitting or two, but for those really looking for their money's worth, a handful of new game modes unlocked on completion will provide an even deeper challenge and plenty more hours of gameplay. Overall, a compact but competent adventure that draws on two excellent games for inspiration, and manages to carve out a unique spot of its own.

This game is very good in what it intends to do. Great varied boss battles. It does not depend on luck, but on skill. And it will definitely require skill, specially if you're aiming for the platinum (I believe it is one of the most difficult plats to date).

You shouldn't buy if: You want a visual masterpiece, like to develop a character (lvl up, aquire new skills, this is not present in this game), want an easy plat.

A clue to what this game is, is in the title. Souls. If you've played Demons Souls, Dark Souls and/or Dark Souls 2 then chances are this is a game for you. It's not related to them directly but I don't think the title is any coincidence. For me it's a clear nod at those much loved titles.

If you're a player who revels in the ability to figure out an encounter using logic, patience and pure skill and you get a rush of adrenaline when you best those encounters using your own intuition and not having watched a solution on YouTube then Titan Souls is for you. It's a brutally punishing, extremely rewarding game that has a very simple premise, kill or be killed and you should expect to be killed many, many times.

You are a lonely warrior with 1 arrow and 1 hit point. Equally the bosses you face have 1 hit point but typically they wield more than just a puny little arrow. There's no fluff, no real story, just you, a moody score and myriad bosses waiting to be worked out and gimped by you.

On the face of it Titan Souls looks like an impossibly hard game until you look through the trophy list (in which a platinum is available) and realise the game can be beaten in less than 20 minutes. There are various modes such as Iron Mode, in which death doesn't send you to the nearest checkpoint, it resets the entire game! Another where you can't roll at all. This should prop you up by telling you that it's simply not as hard as it initially looks. Each boss has a particular way to beat them and you owe it to yourself to work that out, not watch someone else do it.

Also available as a cross buy cross save with a PS Vita which allows you to take this game on the road.

Grow a pair and enter the world of Titan Souls. I doubt you'll regret it.

I am now a firm believer that pretty much anything Devolver Digital puts their hands on will be some amount of fun. This 2D hybrid of Dark Souls and Shadow of the Colossus is probably one of my favorite games from them to date (aside from Hotline Miami), and serves as a solid boss crawl even if it is a little simple on the surface.

The premise is you are a wanderer equipped with a single arrow and bow, and can only be hit once before dying. Sounds hardcore, and in later stages in certainly can be, but there is more of a strategy/puzzle aspect to the boss battles in this game, so its a different kind of difficulty. Most bosses can similarly be killed in a single hit, so timing is key. The load screen between deaths is VERY short and there is not a lot of backtracking if you clear each area the first time through, making the difficulty even more tolerable.

The core concept here is strong, but I feel like it could have been developed a little further still. The feel and pacing of the game doesn't really change from start to end, but its such a good pace that it didn't bother me too much. All in all, if you are a fan of boss crawls, dont miss this one.

8/10, maybe wait a month or two, Devolver games tend to be cheap or free from time to time, one of the reasons I like them so much!

getting tired of games being ultra nit picky to make up for not being fun. No this is not a souls game. No, Souls games are not good either. Enough of these insta death boss rush games, wether it be an AAA title or indie game... Just pure laziness.

Another game with lazy pixel graphics, another game that's extremely repetitive, another game trying to cash in on the name of good franchises and another game for the trash pile!

Oh god. What a disgraceful excuse for a game. Probably cost 5p to make. Not fun in the slightest. One of the laziest games i've seen in recent years and god knows why it's even available.

For what the game is worth, it is a great experience. That is, if you are paying $10 or less like I did. I finished the whole game (all titans, challenges not accomplished) in 2.5 hours, almost on the dot. But for $10, I got a wonderful soundtrack, nice animations, unique game play features, cool mechanics, astounding bosses, and great extra modes after the first one. And that makes it a worthwhile experience in my book.

TL;DR: Absolutely worth $10, maybe $15-20, absolutely NOT anything above that, and if you like to test your breaking point and going beyond it, this is the game for you.

I picked this up on a whim, despite the mixed reviews, and found an underrated game that is absolutely elegant in its simplicity. Here are the basics:

    * One button shoots an arrow, and, once you've shot the arrow, allows you to make the arrow gravitate back to you at a fairly fast rate.
    * You only have one arrow.
    * If you get hit, you die.
    * The main gameplay is boss fights. Most involve solving some sort of puzzle to figure out how to kill the boss, using your arrow and/or the environment.

That's the basics. It's a little like Shadow of the Colossus, except with a 2-D overhead view.

Don't be fooled into thinking that this makes the game easy in any way, shape, or form. Without revealing details of any of the fights, suffice to say that the game designers have created some very interesting and difficult boss fights, some of which rival some of the more interesting Souls game boss fights.

Some reviewers mock this game for its 2-D overhead view and it's simple graphics. If these are things you absolutely cannot stand, then this is a game you should take a pass on. However, if you enjoy challenging gameplay where your victories are thoroughly satisfying (think Souls games), then you should really pick this game up.

It's too easy to fall into a trap of not being able to stop playing because you're so emotionally invested but you're also too upset to think straight.

You'll notice I gave it a 10 despite this. That's because the game is damn near perfect. It's only flaw is that it isn't meant to be played for long periods of time. Pace yourself. When you get stuck on a boss, stop playing and come back to it in the morning. Maybe have a timer set to 1 hour or 30 minutes. But whatever you do, DO NOT BINGE ON THE GAME. You will hate yourself and most likely break something.

While very hard at some points, Titan Souls succeeds to bring the enjoyment of passing through a level after dying 50 times to another scale being very satisfying at most of it's boss fights. Yet it fails at giving exciting rewards and dense and complex boss fight, turning into a very simple boss rush at a lot of it's boss battles.

Titan Souls earns its rightful place as one of the toughest games of all-time and while some will immediately fall for the elegant yet simple design and alluring fantasy world, others may be turned off by its unrelenting difficulty.
