Feb 24, 2014One of the best action-stealth titles in years and the first serious contender for the “2014 Game of the Year” contest.
-
Feb 26, 2014A great game as is, although it has a few very patchable issues that could really put it over the top.
-
Feb 26, 2014All in all, Thief successfully ticks the right boxes on the PlayStation 4, although it's not a totally next-gen experience.
-
Feb 24, 2014Despite my deep reservations regarding the reboot of my favorite character and the world he inhabits, Thief manages to deliver a compelling experience.
-
Feb 24, 2014Thief succeeds as a good reboot, and also as an interesting offering in the action and stealth genre. An awesome setting, composed of great artistic work and a superb dubbing, is Eidos Montreal's best asset.
-
Feb 24, 2014Following in the steps of Tomb Raider and Deus Ex, an old franchise returns fresh, accessible to a wider audience, but still remains true to its origins.
-
Feb 24, 2014Despite some of Thief’s annoyances, the game is rich in detail and hard to put down.
-
Mar 5, 2014Garrett is a wonderful character, and the city and plot of Thief hold all kinds of potential, the game looks gorgeous on the PlayStation 4 and is mechanically very tight, but all of that potential is dampened by the developer's somewhat overzealous desire to dictate just how the game should be played.
-
Mar 3, 2014Thief is a decent game, however not as brilliant as expected. The game had some strange issues during the gameplay, although the atmosphere is still great. Nevertheless the game itself is not super, yet still decent enough with well thought out characters.
-
Feb 24, 2014While the game does have its faults - particularly falling apart when Garrett is spotted - Thief excels in the shadows as a pure stealth title, becoming increasingly enjoyable as your skills improve.
-
Feb 24, 2014A game that requires patience, but which amply rewards players that can manage it and knits together lots of elements for a solid reboot of the series. It might also be the best thievery simulator – where the adrenalin and thrill of the steal is replicated – put together yet. Whether that’s a good thing or not, socially speaking, it makes for a fun game.
-
Feb 24, 2014Eidos-Montreal may have adhered too closely to the series’ roots, resulting in a reboot that suffers from classic problems like simplistic combat and trial-and-error sneaking missions. However, locked behind this old-school game design is a gem that stealth fans should eye up for their collection.
-
Feb 24, 2014With sharper AI and more considered NPC behaviour, Thief could have been a masterpiece. There are true flashes of brilliance, and they’re not rare, but they’re almost always offset by something that breaks the immersion or otherwise shakes the foundations of the game world.
-
Feb 24, 2014Eidos Montreal's take on Garret and the City comes as a surprise when you consider the hardcore stealth gameplay. On the other hand, newcomers and casual players also can have their fun, granted by the very well-thought difficulty system. The storytelling is quite disappointing, and story missions are definitely too linear in many aspects, but secondary quests and thieving in general are well developed and solid, making this game an interesting choice for all the stealth fans out there, despite its shortcomings.
-
Mar 1, 2014Thief isn't the game that most would've wanted. The core of the series still stands, but is also limited by strange uneven moments. Main character Garret controls nicely and the world looks great, but this story isn't as strong as it was in previous installments. This Thief is at its best, simply does what Garret does best: stealing everything he can.
-
Feb 27, 2014Thief is a good stealth game, though disappointing fighting mechanics and lacking visuals keep it from reaching true greatness.
-
Feb 24, 2014On the whole, Thief is a worthwhile entry into the stealth genre and genuinely better than many I've played, but it's hard to ignore the number of obvious things that it whiffs.
-
Feb 24, 2014There's tense, creative stealth action to be had in Thief's fun-but-flawed triumph over technical flubs, wasted narrative potential, and cringeworthy dialogue.
