First, the good stuff. The game is charming in it's presentation in terms of writing style, graphics and art design, music and sound. Controls are great, tight and responsive very simple to understand.

Now, the bad stuff. It's a chore to play and the charm quickly wears thin when you're on your third attempt to just get past the FIRST dungeon. The procedurally generated dungeons seem to have their own rules and you'll quickly die if you aren't careful. Or are unlucky like me and get trapped in a room with no way out with an enemy you cannot kill that summons endless enemy reinforcements. The game forces you to level grind before you can even attempt the dungeon again after you die, but it's pointless since the game scales the world to your level, just adding busy work and wasting the EXTREMELY limited time you have before you fight "the final boss" as it were.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. This is a Zelda clone. Visually perfect in cell shaded style. The world isn't that big, so they make a rule that when you die you have to restart from the start, with a character of your choosing (you find more in the game) and you keep your level. The rule become really annoying after the third time you die. Eventually you can buy an extra life. This mechanic isn't really that fun. I put the game to easy to finish it, but the real ending demands that you kill the bad guy 5 times without dying. The game doesn't cost that much. You will get a good 5-6 hours at easy. I give it a 68%. Did impress me at first, then not so much. Expand

An entertaining game with a familiar pace. A Zelda clone that isn't bad with a beautiful art style and a similar 'end of the world' countdown Majora's Mask had attained. The game can be a little bit repetitive and doesn't really attain anything new or something that will make it stand out. A unique twist in the game, a nice story and a world of beautiful art styles that can make anyone go 'awwww'.

The Swords of Ditto is a charming rogue-lite with a robust challenge. Fans of top-down action-adventure games won’t be disappointed.

Despite a repetitive level-design and an obvious lack of a proper scenario, The Sword of Ditto is both lovely to watch and to listen to. Nicely paced and crafted, it’s even better when played in coop.

Cute rogue-like RPG which introduces interesting ideas, but ultimately turns out to be a dreary grind festival.
