If you like the idea of combining an escape room and a point & click adventure, look no further. Although short, The Room VR is a great VR experience.

The Room works just as well in VR as outside, with the same somber mood, cleverly detailed environments and expertly crafted puzzles. It does however lose some of its flair by being too safe, having a handful of obnoxious puzzles and generally being way too lacking in content

The result is a rather confused adventure, where the player is easily lost between two puzzles. The whole thing is not helped by a script and an uninteresting universe. However, some good game design ideas, like the possibility of entering inside certain mechanisms, hit the mark. And the diversity of the puzzles is to be welcomed. A Dark Matter is thus a pleasant title despite its flaws. But far from being a must in VR.

I would however add that it is nowhere near long enough is for its price tag of 29,99$ if you would buy it normally. The game is a lot of fun and integrates puzzles and VR fantastically. Its easy to understand, intuitive to control and offers about 5 hours of immersive and captivating gameplay.

Only the story is a litte lacking but the presentation more than makes up for that.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. The Room series is, in my opinion, one of my favorite indie series of there. This one is, I believe, the most recent, being a VR exclusive game. It includes three main levels, five if you include the office (Tutorial) and the temple (Finale). These main the include the Museum, Church, and a witches hut of sorts. STORY

You take the role of a investigator, investigating the disappearance of a historian, but get pulled into a kind of conspiracy, and eventually killing a previously introduced character in the series, the Craftsman. Each of these disappearances were caused by a common substance in the game, called Null, which effectively killed the three people that you follow in the game. Once you kill the Craftsman, the souls of the people you followed are, I'm assuming at free, but I'm not sure, but something happens to them, and you're set free. The story is a bit rough without some context, like who the Craftsman is, and what Null is, but it can be understood without it. GAME PLAY The game play is simple. It's effectively a escape room, where you need to get keys, solve puzzles, and find clues to get to the end. Some of these can be confusing, or be missed entirely. For example turning the organ pipes during the Church room was pretty abstract, being almost perfectly blended in with the background. Other than those problems, the game play is great and easy to access. ATMOSPHERE

I have to mention this, but the game looks amazing. Each room has that feel of you being alone, and has this slightly dark atmosphere. It completely brings you into the world, and makes the game feel great.

    CONCLUSION

TLDR, this game is an amazing escape room game, with a great, dark atmosphere and relatively complex story that really makes sense with the other games.

The game itself is written just as well as its iPad counterparts. The use of VR is brilliant. The graphics and puzzled are good fun.

However.......the game is way too short for the price tag. I finished it in about 3 hours and only really got stuck on the puzzles once. Also, quite often the hand used to grab things freezes just leaving objects out of reach. Finally, even after finishing the game, i'm not really sure what the storyline was. I just went from puzzle to puzzle. The story wasn't really clear.

All in all, a great game if it had been much longer or half the price, with a better storyline.
