It may not stray very far from its influences, but considering how well it borrows from them, it hardly needs to. This is an adorable, easy-to-love game, and it's well worth a play.

In that sense, it came out at the absolutely perfect time because there’s nothing else like this on the platform, and at $20, this a must-own if you’re a PS4 owner with a child or if you’ve got fond memories of the N64-era 3D platformers that Rare put out many years ago.

Nothing groundbreaking, but it's a sweet and tasty slice of nostalgia that delivers a welcome warm, fuzzy feeling to new-gen. [Nov 2014, p.94]

If you consider yourself an adult, say anywhere between the ages of 18 and yet-to-expire, I dare say that you are burdened by an inner-child, a nostalgic whisper that reminds of a simpler lifestyle, fantastical expectations, and games that made you feel adventurous, alive.

A safe game that does a lot by the numbers, but still an enjoyable experience for anyone willing to give it the time.

The Last Tinker: City of Colors is a throwback to a simpler time in gaming. Complex, harrowing storylines can be absolutely fantastic, but sometimes it’s nice to relax into a charming tale.

In the rift between old and next-gen, The Last Tinker: City of Colors is quite a great platform game that will take you back to the genre's referents. However, it's unstable framerate is quite a burden.

The Last Tinker: City of Colors is a fun and insignificant way to spend seven to 10 hours with your PS4. The game will remain most memorable for me because of the way it never could decide who it was meant for—Kids? Adults? Teens? Super-coordinated babies?—rather than for graphical or gameplay reasons.

A heart of gold surrounded by endless color makes it all easier to swallow, but you're left wondering what could have been had The Last Tinker's gameplay come on as strong as its presentation.

The Last Tinker: City of Colors if a throw back game that provides gamers with a simple approach to fun and it works.

The Last Tinker: City of Colors is like the nicest kid in school. He’s not the best athlete or student; he’s just nice and because of that, you want to like him. To some extent, you do. But he still isn’t picked first in gym and he doesn’t ace all his tests.

It’s not amazing, but it’s definitely not awful. While it functions well enough as a platformer, performance issues keep it from being a stand out in the genre.

The Last Tinker is not a bad game, just one that fails to live up to its promise.

Parents looking for an age appropriate adventure for their young gamer should give The Last Tinker a look, others will find it forgettable.

An incredibly erratic framerate, little replay value, and the lack of any real challenge throw a few wrenches in the gears, but overall, it's not a particularly bad game, even if you'll never look back once the adventure is over.

A busy-as-hell palette meets repetitive gameplay and an uninspired story with no surprises. [November 2014, p77]

In the end, it’s worth a curious glance while keeping its technical failings in mind, or a decent distraction for younger children to play with.

Despite its artistic aptitude, The Last Tinker lacks identity. The combat is remedial, the platforming is robotic, and the puzzles are little more than frustrating roadblocks that fail to mystify.

The Last Tinker tries to ape the best platformers out there, but with boring combat and unchallenging gameplay, it's just a dull one.

Great for kids (apart from the fact that the "for kids" setting has some irritating difficulty spikes - I had to help my daughter a few times later in the game).

We still had really great time playing the game, though. Given its price (a lot of professional reviews do not seem to take into account this little gem only costs about 10 Euros with PS Plus), it is an absolute must-buy for people looking for a fun platformer to play with their kids. If they added some more game play depth, non-linear story/quest elements and spoken/synchronized dialogue for the sequel, it could absolutely turn into a great full-price platformer for younger audiences. In its current form, "Tinker" already is an absolutely outstanding budget-price-platformer.

The Last Tinker absolutely oozesThis game made me feel like an 8 year old playing Spyro on the PS1 for the first time, all over again. The Last Tinker absolutely oozes classic Sony platformer charm in a way that I haven't seen for a long time. Yes, the game is easy and the puzzles are simple but that's not a bad thing, it makes it a relaxing and purely enjoyable game to play through. The low difficulty level also means it's accessible to kids which is great because this is exactly the type of game I would want my kids to be playing. The only reason I haven't given this game a 10/10 is because the current version suffers from framerate drops (slowdown) - If you aren't the type to notice that kind of thing then you'll be fine. Remember that this game is a debut title from a small developer which makes this all the more exciting and absolutely worthy of supporting. Full Review »
