It made me lower my expectations lower than they have ever been and I was still disappointed. The plot is absolute garbage and that is no over exaggeration. A C grade revenge plot with utterly uninteresting characters.

    Abby is some angry chick who gets saved by Joel just for her to blow his leg off with a shotgun and then to club him to death with a golf club in the first 3 hours of gameplay. The rest of the game is a one-dimensional revenge plot that tried really hard to include some edge and depth but failed miserably.    … Expand

    This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. The game is based on a petty and childish story about "rEvEnGE" that doesn't even go all the way with it.. In a world where society doesn't exist and survival is the one and only concern, the creators decided to lecture us about how "hate brings hate" as well as introducing main characters that have no purpose other than to represent an agenda. Characters from the first Last of Us don't act like they used too and many of them die for the sake of shock value. This game is a spit in the face to all TLOU fans and Neil made sure that we get the message when his "projection" character (Manny) spits on Joel during his last moments.

I purchased this game not just for the stellar gameplay that the original had to offer, but also for the deep and compelling characters that made the first such a masterpiece. The first game had puzzles that were clever, gameplay was good and overall, pieced together an experience that the plau could grow along with as it made the world and the characters within it relatable. But you won't find that here, not in the last of us part 2. They completely kill off beloved characters out of disrespect for fans of the first, just for shock value. The story of Ellie being unique and immune from the first is barely awknowledged. They took everything good from the first and desicrated it, it's not the same characters you fell in love with and truth be told if you loved the first games characters then you will loath part 2's.

    This "game" is not anymore a game then it is a message from the developer; a message that makes it abundantly clear that if you're white or straight then this game is NOT for you. You're the bad guy here. The gameplay consists of 20 hours of stealth and combat, with very little in between to give you a break from combat. There are no light hearted moment that gives you a reprieve from its "you're so bad and violence is wrong" message. Its hours of the same thing over and over and over, which would be fine if the story was acceptable, and SPOILER ALERT it's NOT. The main characters from the previous game have been entirely rewritten for a revenge story that conflicts with who they are. The new characters are straight from the LGBT board of representatives, and designs and personalities are probably more prejudiced than I really want to admit. Stereotypes, trans women (or women that look trans) and lesbian couples that would rather hate men than forgive them for a mistake. It'sn an utter JOKE and man I really thought ND was better than this. Lesbians and transvestites don't play your games so stop catering to them. I thought the leaks were fake, boy was in the wrong. They were dead on. I'm in the process of trying to get a refund because I'll be damed to pay for a game from a developer that hates me this much.    … Expand

    Great fan of the first, this second one doesn't do anything truly interesting and new on the game-play side if not a few improvements, while having the massive drawback of an awful story that "is supposed to make you feel bad" because that's deep, and that's what big Hollywood movies do. It doesn't get a zero because the visuals and animations are well done,it would get even an higher score if it didn't force down my throat some of the most disgusting cutscenes I've seen in a videogame, but as it is, I think a 2 is more than fair.… Expand

Joel's death was unnecessary and was done just to add shock to the story. The combat is pretty much the same from the first game except now we can kill dogs. Texture popins, assets load slow, sky starts to glitch sometime, and of course my PS4 Pro is a jet engine as usual.     Absolute disrespect to the first game and its characters. Blatant agenda pushing as far as the eye can see. This game wasn't made for fans of the original, it was a politically charged cringe fest to shove certain ideals down peoples throats, and then berate them if they don't like it.

    Pass on this and get yourself a few beers or another game. You'll be damn glad you did.

    The director Neil Druckmann went out of his way and said: "The game isn't meant to be fun". What is it trying to achieve then? If you're not providing entertainment, then what are you trying to do? School me? Creators MAKE YOU go though all these terrible things and then have you feel sorry for doing it, but (and this is the worse part) not in a single instance in this game can you choose to go 'non lethal'. See that random dude over there? you're gonna have to slit his throat to progress forward. See that pregnant lady? yeah you gotta butcher her too. And what if you say 'no' , what if you decide that you've had enough and you don't want to mindlessly keep on executing dozens upon dozens of people you have never met before? Well, the game just gatekeeps you out of experiencing the rest of the story. In the name of what? Neils twisted fantasy? A laughable, petty story about revenge? Creators say that the game 'makes you think' but it never actually does. People who made this game think that suffering, gore, mass murdering gives the story depth, which is ridiculous in of itself. Making your characters experience bad things doesn't make them deep, it's the things that they think and how they feel that makes them seem like a real human being. Here, they never reflect upon what they do, and what literal war crimes they've commited. In the original game, you had moments of sadness and grief, but you also had cheerful moments and comic reliefs, There is none of that here. It feels like you are watching a Zack Snyder movie cranked up to 11, everyone is perpetually angry or sad, everyone hates each other for seemingly no reason. Think of Deanerys in GoT s8 and copy paste her ridiculous flip out where she goes on to kill everyone onto every other character in this game. And after all this, laying waste to over 100+ people in graphic fashion, that phisically made me sick and the game forces you to do, you get a manifesto from ND saying that it's wrong to kill people. Are you serious?

    On top of all that pandering and literly spitting on the previous game that people loved you get gameplay mechanics from 2009. I can't stress this enough, in terms of it's gameplay design, this is one of the most outdated, unimaginative AAA game you will ever see. You get the dudes back with one button, stab him with a different one, sometimes shoot the gun, that's it. Game markets having dogs as if it was some game-breaking revolutionary addition even though every stealth game has them. All these new gameplay elements, you've seen all of them in different games, sure they are refined, but not in a way that's worth talking about.

    Great graphics, beautifully crafted environments, solid gameplay like the first. But the story is just awful. What I know of the story ruins it. Everything and every one that was made good in the first game is completely destroyed in this one for a character that has little to do with anything really and is entirely unlikeable or relatable.

    They removed almost all of the puzzle elements from the game. Story is also poorly written and feels violent just for the sake of being violent. I thought the first game was pretty good but this is just a huge step down in my opinion.

    Sometimes the story goes off the rails, everything previously accomplished is trashed, and a political agenda is shoved down your throat.

    In this case it is the second one.

Graphics and animations have been improved and the game looks very good, but unfortunately thats pretty much all i can say is positive about the game. The gameplay is pretty much the same as in part 1, which by itself isn’t bad, but not adding new features does make everything a bit repetitive. Now we come to my biggest problem with the game... the story. 2 hours in Joel gets killed, you go after abby to kill her, some random flashbacks here and there, some random ppl die along the way, and in the end you don‘t kill her because you had a flashback of Joel playing the guitar... that’s it. Characters aren’t very interesting, the whole plot is stupid and I couldn’t care less about Abby and her failed love life (and you‘re pretty much forced to play as her for half of the game). And for everybody saying I‘m hating the last of us 2 because I have a problem with lesbians... it‘s not like Ellie was a lesbian in the last of us left behind dlc already... and ppl didn‘t have a problem with that game so your argument it invalid.… Expand

    I am one of the victims of knowing the spoilers before getting the game and was terribly sad to hear it, as I waited in excitement for 7 years to see my favorite characters joel and ellie again, maybe taking on    This is the first time I have ever given a 0.     I am one of the victims of knowing the spoilers before getting the game and was terribly sad to hear it, as I waited in excitement for 7 years to see my favorite characters joel and ellie again, maybe taking on the virus situation, and seeing their relationship grow more and the story progress, possibly finding out more about the world and infected etcetera, the leaks were terrible and I knew they were real, but I still wanted to give the game a fair chance, while all my friends were already full on hating and saying they're not gonna buy the game and that I shouldnt either, I still wanted to try it first anyway, I loved the first game so much, I couldn't not try it.

    However, sadly the leaks are as said, and it is actually worse, I never thought this could be possible, I thought even if I didn't like what they did with the story at least I would still enjoy the game at least for whats left, but I didn't.. The whole experience I was not feeling it, its not like its predecessor, the first game flowed so well and the characters drew you in so easily, it felt realistic and relatable, the story was perfectly paced, here almost everything is the total opposite, I ended up forcing myself to keep playing as I was losing interest early on, then when the dreaded moments from the leaks came into play I just literally despised it, not in a good way like when you hate a movie character because it is played so geniously evil by the actor, but i hated naughty dog, i hate what they have done to this wonderful game, i am all for lgbt, and equality dont get me wrong, i dont mind transexuals or gays nothing, it doesnt matter what someones prefference is or love interest, but you added and forced so many things in this game to the point its not even about the orignal story anymore but something totally different, almost like spinoff. The writing is terrible.

    WHY do you have to include and force this narrative into a story that had NOTHING TO DO with that, sacrificing everything people loved about the first game to make a point, it was about survival, about characters we loved, Joel and Ellie, Joel having such a rough life and but staying strong through all the crap he experienced, meeting ellie, slowly growing to love her as his own daughter, this was wonderful, we wanted MORE OF THIS. It didnt matter that ellie was a lesbian, it wouldnt even matter if joel was gay, do you get it?! but you made the whole sequel focus on this subject, it suddenly has nothing to do with the apocalyptic world and the virus anymore, it just DOES NOT make any sense, it turns into an lgbt driven story about "hate" obviously white male hate and straight hate, Joel.. One of the greatest characters of all time who went through so much, had to be sacrificed for this?? I expected that joel would die in part II, im fine with that, but this? this is SO forced and does not make any sense, it doesnt feel natural like how the story in 1 felt, in the last of us 1 everything felt like it was really just happening as you went on, it was written perfectly, here you just know its forced, it feels like they HAD to include this.They just killed him because hes a strong male. YES JOEL WAS A STRONG STRAIGHT MALE, so what?? He was a good example of a father figure, a strong man who protects his loved ones, who WENT THROUGH SO MAN AWFUL EVENTS BUT STAYED STRONG. I hoped for something like where Joel was Old and now Ellie had to protect him, and that maybe he would die in another way n ellies hands or something, something emotional that we'd love bittersweet. What you did is totally destroy all the potential of a wonderful sequel. The new character is also NOT a good example at all and feels totally forced, its just ridiculous, and actually offensive to the lgbt community.

    WHY the heck did naughty dog let Druckman do this? Why was he not removed at some point by the ceo? Kojima did not deserve to be removed from MGS but Neil Druckman sure did. It's ja slap in the face for all the fans. You let Druckman burn a whole franchise to the ground and turn all the fans who loved the first game against you, let that sink in Naughty Dog... You let him do this so you are also responsible. If all of that wasn't enough yet afterwards you restrict YouTubes talking about the game or giving honest reviews, AND paying for high ratings at review outlets to make sure the game still sells well even if it means deceiving fans. This is unacceptable and you went from my favorite developer to my most hated in a matter of days. I will never buy your games again. Unless maybe you fire Neil Druckman and make a public apology to the fans. Gameplay is literally the same as it was 7 freaking years ago. They managed to completely destroy everything that was built up after the first game in a matter of 2 hours.     A disjointed narrative, odd pacing, questionable writing. The last of us part 2 is but a shadow of it former masterpiece counterpart. In the technical aspect, the game is overwhelming: incredible graphics, excellent environmental design, God-tier animation, shot composition and overall scene direction, however the game is dragged out and over stays it's welcome, and the overall gameplayA disjointed narrative, odd pacing, questionable writing. The last of us part 2 is but a shadow of it former masterpiece counterpart. In the technical aspect, the game is overwhelming: incredible graphics, excellent environmental design, God-tier animation, shot composition and overall scene direction, however the game is dragged out and over stays it's welcome, and the overall gameplay loop is mediocre at best, barely an upgrade from a game 7 years ago, hence feeling like the game belongs in the previous generation when it comes to being played instead of being watched. Beyond the technical aspects, the game's story pretty much deconstructs it's former narrative peak in character writing, and by the end of the game the story lead nowhere and pretty much undid every achievement part 1 managed to reach. This is the most disappointing aspect of part 2, and left a very bad taste in my mouth.

    Overall, I would recommend this game if it was on sale at £15 or something but I imagine a lot of people who paid full price (like me) are going to be sorely disappointed.

This feels like a complete disregard and disconnection between Naughty Dog and the fans of the game, they tried to go for a different approach and it didn't work out at all. Every new character feels forced, and pretty much every old character is dead anyway. I really loved the first game, I can't see how this one managed to be this bad im comparison. In short, the story was so bad it hurts, the gameplay is ok-ish and the graphics were the only actual straight up good thing about this game.… Expand

Let's break it down: The game takes about 3 hours ON AVERAGE to develop/hype up characters nobody gave a rat's ass about, and then they do absolute **** Then, actually developed characters with huge amounts of future/past potential, just...gone. Hers an example: Lev, whom Naughty Dog spent 6+ hours to develop with, her ONLY interaction with the relevant plot of "revenge" was calling out "Abby". This is not a joke. Any side character or even extra cutscene displaying Abby having morals could have easily achieved the same effect. That religious cult? that you excepted great things from? Nah they did absolutely nothing to the revenge plot. That entire development could've been Abby taking a dump in the toilet and nothing would change. And as if the story isn't bad enough, Repetitive puzzles and draining lootings, unnecessarily enormous environments with very little that worths exploring, and Metacritic now deletes negative reviews (from 5015 to 3621 as of this very moment), has just lost all the respect built from TLOU 1.     False advertising replacing a character from a trailer with another, forcing players to play as unrealistic unlikable character for a long period of the game. A revenge story that isn't a revenge story. With shock value for the sake of shock value. Telling stories that don't fit the world and very few new enemies. Too political, forced sex scenes.

    This game gets one star for good graphics, the rest of it, nothing. I have never wanted my money back from any game I have bought but for this one i do. The story, the agenda, everything about it is a joke. If you are going to butcher a game series just make a new one and stop destroying good IPs. Worse then Disney Star Wars.

The story is a mess, zombies are irrelevant, a third into the game you realize they're retconing the first installment, which already was an obvious plagiarism of the movie Children Of Men.     Disappointment of the year 2020. I replayed the first so many times I honestly lost track. This game basically trashes the first game and decides to write a tale about how you're bad all people are bad and it's so full of it's own stink it's horrifying.

    It's hard to start writing a review for this game because clearly some personal bias is influencing my decision to write this, based on my disappointment in the game's direction with the story.

    However, looking at it objectively, TLOU2 does a lot right. The core gameplay from the original is refined and expanded upon.     However, looking at it objectively, TLOU2 does a lot right. The core gameplay from the original is refined and expanded upon. Whilst it won't win any awards for gameplay and a lot of the same noise-related mechanisms remain (throw a bottle or a brick to help you stealth your way through), killing enemies is pretty satisfying, and more real than most games present them.

    Expanding on the last point, the audio can be horrifying, people screaming as they die, the terror of the (less prevalent, this time around) clickers, and the general design are at times outstanding. Combined with some of the best visuals seen on the PS4, the presentation here is top notch.

    However, where the game really suffers and presumably why it's bombing so hard on here right now is because the story is shambolically bad. Character development should be called character regression specifically for this game, and I'm not just talking about controversial moments. The game spectacularly fails at introducing one of its leads, and does nothing throughout a long section of the game to make you want to play as this person. I know her motives, what she does and how she turns out, so I'm simply a passenger along for a really long, boring bus ride. And when I get to the end, i realise I should never have gone in the first place.    … Expand
