    I had this game on pre-order for 2 years. The first game is one of my favourite games of all time. THIS IS NOT THE LAST OF US. It plays like a last of us fan fiction, by someone who was trying to ruin every character in the game.

    The story of the game is so surprisingly bad coming from a trusted company like naughty dog, it’s as if they mad this game just make fun if their fans. This game is s*** even if you leave out the sjw problems. probably the only good thing about this is the graphics, but overall, its just a boring and hard to play game.

    Abandons what everyone loved about the first game to push forced agendas. The game is filled with unlikeable characters and awful things happen to the characters that are likeable. Add on a horrible plot and you have a disappointing and forgettable sequel. Do not buy.

    As a fan of the first game, I was absolutely HYPED for this game. When The Last of Us 2 opens up, you get a beautiful world, familiar soundtrack, and the return of both of the characters we all grew to love in the first game, Joel and Ellie. For the first 2 hours of gameplay, you feel right at home in the world. But it soon begins to fall apart. It is hard for someone who has replayed theAs a fan of the first game, I was absolutely HYPED for this game. When The Last of Us 2 opens up, you get a beautiful world, familiar soundtrack, and the return of both of the characters we all grew to love in the first game, Joel and Ellie. For the first 2 hours of gameplay, you feel right at home in the world. But it soon begins to fall apart. It is hard for someone who has replayed the first game multiple times to realize that the sequel is not up to par. TLOU is about characters and story. Many people, myself included, did not play the game for the gameplay, which is just like a lot of other games. It was the story and the chemistry between Joel and Ellie as a father-daughter duo that drew us all in. Part two feels like it completely disregards the relationship established in the first and the characters seem to change personality and consistency just to further the plot along. There are times where the characters feel like a different character entirely and I was left thinking, “(insert character name) wouldn’t have done that. They were smarter than that.”

    After about 7 hours of gameplay, it begins to feel flat. In a world full of undead, even the living lose life. The story becomes cliche and predictable, and there is a section that is about 10 hours long that focuses on things that have nothing to do with the main story except that it is trying to establish a backstory for a new character. In the first game you learned about the characters as they pushed through the story, a 10 hour flashback was not needed to establish the characters. A lot of the times, things were just unnecessary and by the halfway point I was just wanting it to be over because I was just bored.

    Boring is not a word I would like to use to describe The Last of Us 2, but it is what it is.

    The ending is anticlimactic and it feels as if the game was trying too hard to be artsy and deep instead of just telling a good story. I felt so much emotion for these characters in the first game, and to this day I can’t get through the prologue without crying, but I felt nothing in part 2. The characters feel so different and inconsistent that if it weren’t for the fact that clickers were present, you could easily forget that this is even a TLOU game.

    All that said, the graphics, soundtrack, and acting are phenomenal. The story, is flat and feels more dead than the undead themselves.

    This game is definitely getting bombed by negative reviews on purpose, but don’t just ignore the audience score because of that because there are some valid reasons for disliking this game.    … Expand

    Great gameplay mechanics but the narrative and the storytelling in this game are beyond **** An absolute lack of respect for the previous game combined with lazy writing makes The Last of Us Part II look more like a parody rather than a worthy sequel for the Naughty dog classic

    This franchise is all about the story. Without the story the game means nothing. This game does have great visuals and great gameplay, but the main focus needs to be the story. The story just isn’t good and it tries too hard to make you feel sorry for people that you immediately don’t want to feel sorry for. And the ending tries so hard to make you feel sad, without making any logical sense.

    Gameplay is top notch. If you liked the first game, it's similar with lots of improvements on movement, melee combat and AI.

    Graphics are of course gorgeous. Worth playing just to explore all the environments.

    This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. This game is about hate, and boy does it try its best to make you hate it. It's not a 10/10, but its not (as the joke goes) *Naughty Dogs**t*. The game is fine, the biggest issue is the fact that the gameplay doesn't go enough to hold your interest between the story beats, and when those story beats do arrive its a mediocre mess for most of the game. The additions to gameplay are few and far between, with a jump that adds little, a prone that was sorely needed, a QTE melee combat system that adds immersion to the combat but is condemnable gameplay wise. All this set in a more open environment just makes the game feel worse. The story is not the sequel we all wanted, it is not the fallout of Joel's lie destroying his and Ellie's relationship to tragic ends, it is a story about a whole new cast of characters, and these characters walking dead esque existence in the world of the last of us. You do still play as Ellie, and you see Joel a fair bit too, but the focus is on these new characters. Unfortunately, the masterful opening hours of the last of us's build up to get you invested in the lives of the Ellie and Joel, have in the last of us 2 been replaced with a story that feels like it was written by a 10 year old in comparison. The last of us made you love the characters, but the last of us 2 expects you to like the characters based on their identity, and not for what the story shows us about them. And if I dont like the characters or story of a 25h game with mediocre gameplay, then I'm not going to like the game, and I didnt. But the game still gets points for its production value, graphics, sound, and competency in not being an bug ridden mess. But that is low praise for what should have been the game of the year.… Expand

    This game is a disaster, and it's apparent from the offset. Reading the critic reviews would have you believe that this is the greatest game ever made, I suspect their ratings have more to do with ideology and financial incentive than actual objectivity. The game isn't particularly pretty to look at in context of the budget, and while graphics aren't everything this 'game' doesn't have much else to offer. The story devolves from the first game into a petty revenge fantasy, I could harp on about this but honestly what's the point? The characters are totally different from the first game, there's no consistency. You're lead to believe that Joel will play a large part of things, they kill him off within a couple of hours. A man who trusts nobody and is a hardened survivor walks into a room full of thugs and announces himself, something he never would have done and simply isn't believable.

    There's a horrific 'love scene' in which we're forced to watch Abby get railed that's more hardcore than some of the things you can find on pornhub. I did not want to see this, I don't understand why it was in the game. The fact Sony has censored the likes of anime games yet allowed this is the height of hypocrisy.

    The gameplay? Stale and dated, the gameplay in the first game wasn't exactly stellar either but it had the story to carry it. This has nothing, it's not worth your time or your money. It's a strange fetish created by the self absorbed narcissist Neil Druckmann.    … Expand

The only true last of us is in my favorite games of all time. I was excited up until the first leaks came out. I had a small piece of hope that it would be at least somewhat good as I already expected Joel would probably die in the squeal just not in the way the leaks showed. When I played the game and saw how they made Joel/Tommy go against their characters, by telling these people where they live and their names when they do not know these people at all. The way Abby just kills Joel when at this point the player has no idea who Abby makes her insufferable. All the work they do to try and make her sympathetic does nothing. At the end of the game, I agree with Ellies's decision to still go after Abby cause 'it can't all be for nothing'. It does not make sense that she would almost just let Abby go, she had just killed a man to get information on where Abby is. The ending is inconsistent with Ellie's character, as the entire game she has been killing people to try and get to Abby, and it is stupid she did not just shoot her in the head. Ellie's ending is bad and she does not even get revenge if she had just killed her straight away all that would be different is she would still have 10 fingers. A waste of £160.… Expand

That just makes people even more disgusted. Towards the middle of the game Abby finds Ellie and her friends and pins down tommy, kills Jesse and then we gotta play as her against Ellie? For **** sake why would anyone want to do that? I’d rather be stuck in a loop where Ellie kills me then continue with the **** story. Now onto the ending, you’re telling me that after witnessing Joel’s brutal murder, the death of Jesse, and losing Dina and tommy that it was all for nothing?She finally got the opportunity to kill this she hulk and she didn’t take it? Joel saved Abbys life and Abby showed no **** given but Ellie has to? Where was that compassion when Joel was getting beat to death? Oh “they’re not the same?” Dam right they are and that’s exactly why no one likes Abby, much less hates her. They try so hard to get you to understand her perspective but the audience doesn’t care when she’s still the emotionless robot that killed Joel, she doesn’t even regret it, after Ellie spares her you’re telling me that she couldn’t say “I’m sorry”? I get what the message is, “revenge is a fools game” revenge only hurts the people around you but **** they executed it so poorly and dissrespected the loved characters of the first game. Gameplay wise I have no complaints, pretty cool, no factions mp but hey your guy’s decision for not giving the full game.     Atualmente, sem duvidas o melhor jogo de 2020, o jogo apresentou uma melhoria gráfica incrível comparado ao ultimo jogo, sua história esta incrível e emocionante. Apesar de alguns jogadores realmente não terem gostado do jogo, outros acabam criando bots para diminuir a nota do jogo sem sequer ter o jogado.

    It's just not an enjoyable experience to play. There are movies and books which are much more powerful emotionally, but aren't pretentious enough to say they 'transcend mere entertainment'. The game-play is sorely disappointing and the story is heavy-handed, inconsistent, and ultimately non-nonsensical. What a disappointment.

    Gameplay:
    the gameplay was all right, it these improve from original; it has not improved with the times. In-game that hellbent doing risks with the story; I would say that mechanics are too safe.

    Story: I'm not going to spoil the story, the story is probably going to decide if you like the game; but everybody as pretty much spoiling it anyway, so most people have an opinion on both sides. But why is the story so diverse? because they changed the tone, themes and characters, which lead this major shift.
    These are nothing wrong about changing all three at the same these in some others game, like persona where these no real story connection to past entities, but when this connection to past games, like in mass effect 2, there will be some problems if you did this.
    However, This can be seen as artistic and brave to some, like when tomb raider did it. Tho, to others, can be seen as disrespect to fans and the original game, like Bomberman: act zero. In the end, it comes down to context, to how it executed.

    Then finally I answer the question of why this happens? I believe two things are to blame, the original no real criticism and Hype going they and fans head. I believe because the original had no criticism, it had no need to improve; which lead to the reason why the gameplay doesn't; but hype and the acclaim because the story, lead to an echo chamber that made the story.
    The story came from thinking they can do whatever they want, what they wanted was to tell a different story, and not the story fans fell in love in.

    The let get this out of the way if the game was not last of us 2, would people care about the story, probably it's 25-hour game at that length in a story-driven game, it needs to be good, but It would not be as diverse as would be no hype.
    Most other reviewer masterpieces either start with predecessors that had criticism work off of like witcher 3 or breath of the wild or suppose to be one-off that has no sequel like portal or Limbo. Nearly all games that are an acclaimed masterpiece have one predecessor or a sequel that is not as good as that for multiple reasons; Last of us 2 is that game.
    However, they were a high chance Last of us 2 would have never live up to fans expectations, the hype was nearly at the end of the universal, and I think most would have been a little disappointed no matter.

    That why I'm giving this game 6 because if it was not last of us 2, this game is a 7 out of 10; be this is last of us 2 and I'm going to be honest; I'm also disappointed.    … Expand

    A game with probably some of the best visuals I’ve ever seen, but a garbage story, lack of gameplay mechanics variety, unlikeable characters, and honestly just feels like a major step back in the franchise. I would say this is nothing more than a big budget fan fic.

    The graphics are the only good thing about this game. The gameplay is okay. But my god is the story utter trash. They took everything that was good about the first game and threw it in the dumpster for the sake of being ~edgy and shocking~ George R.R. Martin levels of creativity with this one. Hard pass.

    Ugh. The visuals are about the only thing this game offers. The story writers must have phoned in this game, or been replaced since it ends up being less a fun sequel to a great game, and more a 10 hour long commercial for whatever agendas they want to push.

    I'm hoping this is the last of the series after playing this mess.

    The Last of Us 2 is in many ways like the first one. Great graphics, great acting, and in my opinion, great gameplay. However, where the game falls short compared to the first game, is its story and characters. (Spoiler alert)

    This review will be put in chapters, where I can focus on the pros and cons of said areas of the game.

    GRAPHICS:

    The graphics, just like the last game, has changed the standard for all other games in this era. Stunning details are seen everywhere, through the character models, nature, buildings, etc. The graphics are part of why I have given the game such a high rating, as there was never a place in the game that wasn't polished.

    ACTING AND CHARACTERS:
    ---
    An important part of the story is the acting from the actors who played the different characters. Although I personally didn't find some of the new characters interesting, the returning characters did an amazing job. I especially loved Joel and Tommy. Although Joel didn't see as much action in the last game, which I will also mention later on, I absolutely loved the portrayal of Joel which Troy Baker delivered. Tommy, a character which we sadly didn't see so much of in this game, was in my opinion perfectly acted out. Ellie, the protagonist of the story, saw a different route than the last game. Although I enjoyed her portrayal, I certainly miss some of the Ellie we saw in the first game.

    STORY:

    My main problem with The Last of Us 2 is the story. Overall, the story lacked what the first game had, and the early death of Joel ruined what I thought could have been something better. Although I personally understand the death of Joel as the main plotline in the story, his death should have happened sooner, if not at all. There could easily have been other ways to create the revenge story which this game focuses on. The game does have some gold pieces scattered around though; The flashback to Ellie and Joel in the dinosaur museum was in my opinion the best part of the story. It almost brought a tear to my eye to see the dad-daughter relationship which we saw in the first game.

    GAMEPLAY:

    The gameplay in The Last of Us 2 is much like the first game, just better. The good things have been kept, and the bad has been fixed or partly removed. There is not much to say here, I did enjoy the gameplay. I understand that this is very mixed between people, but I very much like the style of gameplay that the Last of Us 2 brings to the table.

    CONCLUDING THOUGHTS:

    The Last of Us 2 is a great game. Not close to perfect, but it was great. I remember the leaks on how the game would be a huge "LGBTQ+ propaganda scheme", but I personally don't think so. I, personally, see no reason to why there should be some form of representation. If people don't like it, then that is their opinion. I honestly felt that this game didn't shove said representation down the throats of the consumer, but that is where different opinions differ.

    Overall, the Last of Us 2 is a gritty, dark game, which focuses on the problematic nature of humanity. Emotions lead the game, and in the end, when Ellie lets Abby live didn't leave me completely unsatisfied. Yes, I was very confused with how Ellie, whose entire mission had been to get revenge and kill Abby, in the end lets her live, but after a deep thought, I felt a sense of satisfaction. The ending goes to show that Ellie, despite her unhuman actions throughout the game, is still a good person at heart, and the girl all players came to love in the first game. That is why I give this game 8/10, and why I do not regret my time with the game.    … Expand

    But the biggest issue is how bad the story is, they went from great story telling in the first game, to this shock value, agenda pushing garbage. All the character building is gone and its just action, explore, kill 50 people, add some bad story telling and repeat.

Instead of following in the steps of its predecessor, the sequel throws away much of its character-development, atmosphere, and world-building for the sake of adding a playable antagonist. Despite early news promising the development of Ellie and Joel's bond, the latter is killed in the prologue of the game by said antagonist. Instead of naturally becoming a revenge story, the writers try their hardest to make the player emphasize with Abby - something incredibly difficult to accomplish if the player developed a connection to the protagonists from the first game. Characters close to Ellie die or abandon her unceremoniously throughout the course of the game in scenes that seem more reliant on shock value than good writing. Those who die are always taken out by Abby, and you'll occasionally play as her for these scenes. At the ending, Ellie saves Abby's life before challenging her to one last fight. Despite having two of her fingers bitten off in the struggle, Ellie gets the upper hand and is all set to drown the woman who has taken everything from her. With a brief vision of Joel flashing through her mind, she makes a disappointing decision to let go of Abby and allow her to get away. At the end of the day, Ellie is left with nothing. The player has gained nothing. Absolute trash of a game.… Expand
