    Naughty Dog has done it again, this game makes you do things with characters you DO NOT want to do, I respect that. This game has balls, it is getting unwarranted hate from players who haven't either do not like storytelling where there are consequences to previous actions or don't like video games. I will not spoil this game, please play it and review it FAIRLY, and not with hate glasses on.

    One of the worst sequel from a one of the best original story driving game, only driven by one way nonsense violence, with no choices or either reflection on its meaning; only to promote an agenda of a twisted naughty dev. In a story driving game, story matters and must stand on its own prequel and not spitting on it. Thanks to N.Druckman.

There is absolutely no subtlety in its writing as it pushes its message in your face, spoon feeding it to you by artificially creating impact on the story with mindless carnage. By the time you're near the final hours of the game nothing fazes you anymore. The message was already conveyed long ago and it, personally, didn't mean anything to me when I finished the game. When the credits rolled, I sat there on my couch, saddened. Not by the events of the story, but rather by the wasted potential of this sequel. Something that could've been, but never did. The only thing that was redeemable about this was the graphics, which was already expected from a PS4 game, a console at the end of its life-cycle thus optimized to hell. I wasn't a particular super fan of this series, and to those who were... I can only offer you all my sincere condolences.    … Expand

    what can I say except skip this one lied about the game paid off reviewers and made it political this game is a dumpster fire. It is a shame how you took a good story and proceeded take a dump on a overall good story and well thought out characters. I'd say the person head of this game needs to be let go for lettings this get through to the fans.

    How could you ruin the story like this? I won't spoil but this feels like bad fanfiction written by a 12 year old. The characters are one dimensional. The fun puzzles and quicktime events found in the first game are rare. By the time you are half way through the game you are wishing it was over because all you do is walk around and avoid enemies.     I played the entire game in one sitting, and it was so bad that I feel worse about the time i lost than the money. The story felt very jumbled, the AI was horrible, the game play was clunky, and the lag was unbearable. After the first game, this sequel is a complete disappointment. Honestly, I wish the game ended by it all being a dream.

    I'm still playing the game and I'm amazed with everything, just like in the first game. The graphics are amazing, the story is incredible and the characters are very remarkable. Idk why all those bad reviews.

Violence that's way over the top. Messages rammed repeatedly down the player's throat.     This game is a big slap to a face of every single fan of the first game. Its a waste of amazing soundtrack, waste of acting, waste of amazing characters made in first game, waste of designers and people who have put a lot of hours of work into this game, everything i mentioned is ruined because of terrible story.

    The story is very bad. And the ending was worse than Fallout 76 launch. And I if there is a sequel in the minds of the devs. DONT MAKE IT. Give it to the devs of the METRO franchise.

    the only redeeming qualities of this game are the graphics and joel(what they do to joel is despicable)
    but the gameplay is repetitive and the pacing is Horrendous

    In this game they dumb down joel just so they can kill him off and turn him into a plot device so ellie can have a revenge arc but his death is made pointless cause ellie doesn’t even fulfill her arc she just lets abby(who is the worst character in the game and the person who killed joel) live

    Ellie revenge arc is also meaningless cause she kills hundreds of people just to get to abby, but when she gets the chance the kill her she doesn’t,this pretty much just makes everything you did pointless cause you literally achieved nothin from it

    Abby is the worst character in the game,she is a complete random who kills joel and they think that we are gonna want to play as her for like 1/3 of game,Why the **** would i want to play as the killer of the most beloved character in the game?
    Also they try to make us sympathize with her but honestly I have no reason to care

    Great game unless you're an SJW that gets triggered by anything that goes against your specific political beliefs. On a technical and story telling level, this is a great game. Not perfect, there are aspects story wise that could have been better, but it wasn't terrible or trash. Motivations made sense for the characters, Game play was great. Visually perfect.

There is no way it would happen like that and it's obvious you did it only to turn the game into a trans gay game for praise.

    As far am I'm concerned "The last of us part II" isn't the same universe as part 1 nothing that happens in this game is a continuation of the story this is nothing more than woke fanfiction. It's not canon and the story has concluded at the end of the first game. Hopefully, someone with a brain will make a mod or an unofficial second part that plays the story out farther in a realistic way. Just change the character names and looks a little and finish the story properly.

    You guys did this for the virtue points and money but you haven't figured out that the woke crowd doesn't actually buy things. They only **** about things and then instantly move on to the next thing they find that can display their fake outrage. They don't have time to play 30-hour games, they spend every hour not at work searching for something they perceive as offensive. They live to post on twitter so they can make sure everyone knows how caring and how much better of a person they are than you.

That being said, the story is less than stellar and ultimately detracts from the experience. Sound is good and Ellie uses a similar rope mechanic to Nat' in UC4 to move around the environment. Aiming is bad, but all ND games have so so weapon aiming, enemy A.I. is woefully unbalanced - you can either kill someone a few feet away from an enemy without being spotted, or anTechnically it's a big step up from the original game and refines the graphics of the engine used for UC4. Sound is good and Ellie uses a similar rope mechanic to Nat' in UC4 to move around the environment.     Voice acting is good and music is a continuation of the first game.
    But for a game that has been in development so long the changes made to game play are minimal - especially when you consider it's also a jump from Ps3 to Ps4....
    The story is just wave after wave of 'guilt killings' and angst ridden dialogue that is desperately trying to be radical and daring but is just a chore to listen too and watch - the washed out colours and the overall oppressive mood make you long for a moment that lifts the mood.
    Characters are not very likeable or relatable and after a while it's clear that ND are more interested in this as an interactive movie about social and sexual political views rather than an actual video game.
    I understand the desire to make it very cinematic as it is linking to a HBO tv show, but player input is mostly reduced to a viewer...
    The writing has made the amateur mistake of making the game characters fit into a narrative rather than the characters dictate the narrative, forcing a main character to be shockingly 'out of character' most of the time...
    It is also way too long and could have been trimmed down several hours and may have benefited for it.
    If you enjoy movie style games, like a smattering of limited stealth, and can endue a story that made me reach for anti depressants and a bottle of vodka then you will find something to enjoy....
    Me? I'm going back to playing DMC 5 and he flawed but fun RE3 to remember that video games are things you buy to enjoy.    … Expand

    If this doesnt prove what a HACK Druckman is I dont know what will. Pathetic excuse for a story, pathetic one note characters, and pathetic virtue signaling in hopes of appearing "woke" I assume. Such a disservice to the game and gamers alike.

    I won't spoil anything for anyone, but the decisions made by the characters are JUSTIFIED even if I don't personally agree that it's a route they SHOULD have taken. The point is that the story is so well crafted and nuanced that as the player, you come to an understanding during the game that the routes these characters take, COULD possibly happen to someone under the same circumstances. It's a dark turn, but it's not an illogical leap.

    For the negative reviewers to call this game "a pitiful revenge story" "filled with unlikable characters" "decisions that are ridiculous and unbelievable" Is a massive overstep, and I really believe that those people missed the whole point of the story, the character's development (or devolution), and the many reasons to empathize with them, while also not forgiving them for their decisions, but also still being able to appreciate a well told story supported by superb yet conflicting moments of raw emotion.

    There has never been a game like this before, it is one of a kind, and it is a gaming gem of this generation. The sad part is that it will forever be misunderstood and underappreciated for various factors, mostly because of the die hard community of fans that had their own expectations of what this game should have been. Too bad they couldn't realize that it was never up to them, and that the direction the developers went in told a compelling story, that is still believable, and that is poignant and brutally sad and beautiful simultaneously.

    I don't think I'll be playing this game again, maybe ever. But I'll never forget it.    … Expand

    I am a fan of the original, I loved the father-daughter dynamic between Joel and Ellie, Joel would do anything and I mean anything to protect her as would she to help him....I tried to give this installment a chance but they made it for all the wrong reasons, the established story should be your holy grail, and then introduce other elements that complement and enhance it ; news flash: having LGBT+ characters is normal (have friends in the community and love them dearly), having minorities (I’m a minority) is normal and not unique, but having a clear message of disdain against one of your major or even your major customer base and even trying to manipulate media to your advantage is not cool, the virtue signaling is more than evident, does Naughty Dog actually even care about these communities or they jumped on the band wagon for selfish reasons? Do your research, then decide for yourself.

    Speaking of which shame on Naughty Dog on how they treat their employees, not only taking advantage of them financially but creating an atmosphere of fear if they don’t align to their belief system. The actual developers is why I give it a 3 and not a 0, a lot of work went into the game and it looks beautiful.

    Back to the game, if Joel should die, it should have been at the end and by saving Ellie, also setting up the 3rd installment, but you know they need to make a point based on agenda right at the beginning; In addition to this, there’s a lot of hypocrisy with Sony in America, censoring many games and content yet in this case having basically a full on s3x scene?

    I’m pro diversity yet I should mention there’s a lot of symbolism in the game...I’m all for Ellie being LGBT+ and the protagonist, I’m not for the symbolism of Joel being killed like a dog because of agenda. All of the shenanigans of Sony/Naughty Dog silencing people who just spoke their opinions by bullying them via copyright claims looks really bad; suspicious 10/10s from critics yet the user score up to now (6/19/20) is 3.4 with 8.5 thousand reviews? That’s a bit strange, wouldn’t be surprised some websites “reset” user scores at some point due to pressure from Sony, Naughty Dog or the media, hopefully they can stay strong and objective.

    This is not for children or teens, parents please don’t buy this game for your children unless you perfectly know the content and are ready to discuss it. It is not intended for them, it’s for mature adults.take note.    … Expand

    Set-piece sequences, cinematics, animations and overall visuals are truly something to see, the game is simply gorgeous, as expected from Naughty Dog.
    Unfortunately, there isn't much beyond the eye-candy layer. The gameplay is slightly better than what the previous TLOU offered. Gunplay still feels janky and awkward, enemies are still largely identical, the AI is slightly better (enemies    Set-piece sequences, cinematics, animations and overall visuals are truly something to see, the game is simply gorgeous, as expected from Naughty Dog.
    Unfortunately, there isn't much beyond the eye-candy layer. The gameplay is slightly better than what the previous TLOU offered. Gunplay still feels janky and awkward, enemies are still largely identical, the AI is slightly better (enemies tend to react to you killing someone, but it doesn't force any kind of change in your approach to combat, nor a differing experience). Overall, it still plays like a mediocre stealth game, there are many games that do stealth with much more freedom of agency, tools and progression.
    The story, while enacted with amazing detail, is really dissonant and sometimes, plain cheap.
    Characters no longer have relatable motivations and on the rare occasion that they do, it's still not relatable due to plotholes and nonsensical decisions they make. Avoiding spoilers, I'll still say what they did with Joel is one of the cheapest ways I've ever seen writers trying to tear-jerk the player/viewer.
    You can't simply rely on the established popularity of a character from a previous entry and just decide to do him like filth in the sequel for the sake of doing him like filth in the sequel, to make players feel "sad". Anyone could do that, there's nothing creative about it.
    The overall "message" of the plot is one we've heard dozens of times before, yes, the cycle of revenge can be a never-ending downward spiral and the writing the game tries to convey this message is petty and suffers from plotholes and facepalm-provoking character choices.
    Also, aside from the "key" characters from previous game, practically any other character could be replaced with almost anyone at random. They're acting well for most part and they have familiar expressions, but they have no relatable personality or personality traits.
    The overall level design is pretty good and much more open, though the game let go of the environmental puzzles notable in the studios previous games almost entirely and exploration is rather pointless. Though, I will say that there's still more point to looting than it was in games like Red Dead Redemption 2.
    Overall, it's not a "bad" game, but a rather forgettable and sometimes boring one, that's longer than it has any right to be.

    Wanted to like this game, the story, compared to the first one is a dreadful. But this is what happens when the writers focus more on their "agenda" and less on the story. A perfect example of how you ruin, what could've been a great franchise.

    This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. So one night Neil got drunk and wanted to make a sequel to The Last Of Us, after a long 7 year later, this "Game"(according to them) comes. Now when I played it. The first 2 hours were actually going fine then bam! They killed of Joel. The badass Joel that we knew dies like a p***y. I said okay, now at the end of the game as Ellie, we're going to take our revenge even though Ellie doesn't like Joel. After hours, we begin to play as the one who killed Joel for a big amount of time. Well done Naughty Dog! But even though they didn't add much to the gameplay, the details of the ones that we kill are well designed.

    What game were they playing? This is nothing short of a masterpiece. If you played the first game and fell in love with the characters then you will find no shortage of tear jerker moments. The action is great, the characters as strong as ever and the story is engaging as hell. Screw your 4 star ratings. Actually play the damn thing and stop being biased.

    this game has an awesome graphic environment it's really amazing that a PS4 can run this. from a narrative stand point has some moments that are because "yes" and I didn't like the companion mechanics that actually useless but from a general stand point is a great game.

    The visuals in this game are magnificent. It's sad that they build up such a masterpiece in the first game but they decided to threw it away with this **** sequel. I hope this teaches Naughty dog a lesson on how not to treat their fans by trying to go "edgy".

I really wanted to like this game, but for me the story is everything in a game and this felt like a very bad side-story. And of course the media are saying that the bad user reviews are just because they come from people that are homophobic or don’t like the politics the game has. I have nothing against that the protagonist is gay and I don’t judge people based on their orientation. By the way The Last of Us: Left Behind had also a LGBT aspect and it was taken very positive by the gamers (because it told a good story). The majority of the bad user reviews its because of the lack of story the game has. Don’t fool yourself on believing the 10/10 critics that the media scores and don’t ignore the opinion of the consumers that don’t get payed by saying it’s a 10/10 game. TLOU breaks down the depth and resources of the actors and characters and turns them into 2 dimensional figures and they are, the saddest thing for any high calibre art, predictive. Once my expectations were "subverted", the rest of the game fell neatly into place, it was a dark, bleak and non redeeming mess. The writing staff and ND must have such a low opinion of it's player base that they feel this game is a necessary commentary on vengeance. It is not. There were themes of forgiveness, and the ending reinforced them, however they were drowned out by the loss of credible characters and the needless vengeance plot that i had to think very hard that they were there. If you loved the characters and story of TLOU 1, don't buy this game, some stories don't need conclusions.    … Expand

I don't need stuff rubbed in my face. I don't need to be told i'm bad and the things I like are bad. I want a good game play experience with a solid GOOD story. this is just not it. this is shock value for the sake of it really and the big moral code that this dev thinks he has isn't all that. middle aged edgelord is edgy. we get it. what a bore.

I can't believe the enthusiastic critic reviews - Last of Us was not just about the gameplay but also (IMO primarily) the wonderfully crafted story. Part II stomps on the legacy of the Last of Us by killing Joel within its first two hours, barely giving him any attention prior to this raw, sudden death. ND tries to compensate for this through Ellie's flashbacks, only one of which are worth remembering (when he explains the truth of the cure to Ellie), yet even this scene stomps on Last of Us Pt.1 because it was implied she already understood there was no cure. We have to play as Abby, Joel's killer for about 15 hrs. It just doesn't work when you find out she was out for revenge because Joel killed her father, one of the *despicable* Firefly doctors. One ends up having no sympathy for this character whatsoever, hoping that after all of Ellie's killing, she will have no mercy on Abby - but she does. What??? All in all, no payoff, weak characters, a terrible tragic story, an insult to the legacy of Pt. 1. RATING: 1.0/10, for graphics and gameplay.… Expand

    It breaks my heart to write this, but I really did not expect such a poor story after all these years of waiting. While there were a few genuinely good moments, majority of game filled up with plot holes. It just took elements of what worked for the first game without understanding what made them compelling.     The Last of Us Part II is the high point of the PlayStation 4. The plot is controversial, but the game is the incredibly addictive adventure of Ellie, from which it is impossible to pull away from the opening and to the very end.

    Not everyone is going to enjoy the motives of The Last of Us Part II. But if you try and manage to accept the subliminal and not so subtle messages as a fact that the world has gone awry and that people have the need to have somewhere or someone to belong to as their own way out, then... You will witness the boundaries of gaming expand. You will witness a true masterpiece.

    If you loved the original for its great characters and well-paced story – stay away from this game. However, if you’re aching to sink into the depths of depression, or just want to cut some throats and burn some zombies – Part II will deliver. [Issue#247, p.72]
