    Classic example of a game based on movie and character design and great graphics over gameplay. Its designed more as movie than a game. If this had solid , fundamental gameplay mechanics, then if the story is bad, the game can still be plausible. Stories should be to enhance gameplay..not take over it. Your fundamentals are flawed. And why movies about games get them wrong. If you want toClassic example of a game based on movie and character design and great graphics over gameplay. Its designed more as movie than a game. A game with a great story (note its a game first with a story that enhances gameplay).

    Nearly everyone commenting is more bothered by story and plot. A casual audience that wants to play interactive movies. You dig your own grave naughty dog. If you Make movie games and pamper to a causal audience, your going to go down the walking simulator telltale route. Start making proper games again or go to the film industry. If real gamers wanted a movie, they would switch netflix on. Interactive movies are not the future of gaming, they are the future of film !    … Expand

Is so real how the different deads in the game are simple... Because that is the real Life, we don't die with a drama... I don't know i just... Really Love this Game.

    Just mad at neil druckman who lied about story and disrespect to the most beloved characters in the history of video games and ruined it for must of the tlou1 fans... storyline is full of plotholes , the only parts of game is good that joel and ellie are together And finally the way things go down is just pointless... im very disappointed at Naughty Dog

    After eagerly waiting many years for game where I could play as Ellie and Joel. Only for the game rip that dream and stomp on it. Forcing you to play a character I could care less about. From the many plot holes to the repeative gameplay.
    I was hoping to give this game a higher rating even with the stunning visuals and heart strung music. Most of this grade comes down to story telling.     Yeah the story takes some unexpected turns but still, this is a gorgeous game full of detail and entertaining combat. The set pieces are breathtaking and sound design is one of the best I've ever experienced.

    This game is one of the best I have ever played. It is unrelenting and makes you stop and ask yourself what you have just done. Brutal! I have never felt so emotionally invested in a game which may be why people are having a hard time accepting it but they need to realize it is a story. Told in a linear way and was done amazingly.

I do wish more people actually understood what the game really is about, instead of being mad because something happened to our favourite anti-heroes. People are mad cause its not an happy ending. I hope you can really learn to figure out the message of the game by yourself instead of following the hate train about it. Not gonna lie i also was expecting something with a happier outcome after 7 years of waiting, to conclude the story, but just cause it wasnt predictible doesnt make it not great, maybe makes it even better. I hope that maybe when u replay it you'll value it differently.… Expand

    This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. I didn't like the weird pacing. The constant "3 weeks earlier, 3 months earlier, 5 years back, and so on". It was editted very poorly making the main story (about Ellie) feel off.

    The second part (about Abby) was useless, I couldn't make a connection with someone who killed Ellie, the main character of the best game ever made (TLOU) and Joel probably an even better character. It again comes down to pacing. Adding 12 hours of Abby after stuff gets interesting with Ellie really demotivated me. I had to start over again with a character I did not want to know.

    The Last of Us 1 had a story that didn't care about ethics and morals. It was about Joel loving Ellie. Going into fight or flight after not being allowed to say goodbye, nor getting payed for his deeds instead getting left out to die.
    Turning this on his head and focussing 1000% on morals and ethics in TLOU2 made it feel like the writers for the game missed the mark of the 1st one.

    Good graphics and details (Naughty dog being Naughty dog, gg).
    Good gameplay but it gets a little repetetive after 20+ hours and a shame that all the zombies were the same as the first game accept for 2 new, rather uninspired additions. But good enemy AI overall.
    Not a story I personally connected to.

Look I played the game 3 times already , and here is a quick review of the game in my opinion. 1) story is actually good if you actually understand the point of it. Slightly weaker narrative than the first game 2) Main Characters are excellent. Loved Ellie and Abby, the side characters are mainly plot devices especially Abby’s friends. Wished could’ve learned more about Dina and Jessie they were interesting characters 3) Gameplay is amazing very responsive and smooth. when you play as Abby, she is basically Joel, she can bust up skulls with her bare hands just like joel. Ellie’s gameplay is also well designed. Going stealth as Ellie is the super fun, using the bow with explosive arrows is so satisfying 4) Graphics is AMAZING.
    5) Lastly Joel’s death, yes it’s sad , I’ve seen many people’s reaction to this and majority said that he doesn’t deserve this death and should have a hero’s death. Look man Joel’s no hero, the man did bad things to get what he wants and he literally is a selfish man he literally prevented a cure from happening just so he get a second chance to have a daughter. The reason why we love him so much is because he’s so real , we learned his side of the story and he is a father figure to Ellie. That’s why we adore him so much. But saying he deserves a hero’s death is dumb. Overall love the game so much 9/10    … Expand

    The main problem unfortunately is the biggest part of a game like this, the story. Firstly the characters are all pretty terrible and unlikeable, the worst is Abby and the game makes you play as her far too often and for too long. I mean you are playing as a character that you don't actually want to succeed, if the game actually let me kill her and skip all her parts (of course that can't happen) I would of enjoyed it a lot more as it was a chore to play as her. I know why the writers made as play as her so we could see that "just because you are bad guy doesn't mean you are bad guy" and that actions have consequences. She does at least have a character development arc unlike Ellie and is almost likeable at the end. Secondly the story is too long and didn't know when to end, it could and should of ended at the farm sunset scene. Would of probably given it a 7 if it had ended then. Lastly the story doesn't make sense (character motivations don't make any sense) and isn't enjoyable as it's just too dark and doesn't have any pay off at the end. You really have to wonder how it got point of being made, kind of like the last season of Game of Thrones. The world of the Last of Us is so interesting and has so much potential and it was all wasted, the mini stories in the collectibles were more interesting than the main story.

    Overall I would say don't buy this game unless it's on sale for about £15 and you really want to see what the fuss is about.    … Expand

Mejora en todo aspecto la jugabilidad del primer juego, con más armas, más enemigos, una historia maravillosa tanto del lado de Ellie como del lado de Abby. Y aunque el final me dejó con un sabor agridulce en la boca, no me pareció un mal final, aunque en lo personal yo hubiese dejado que el jugador eligiese si matar o no a Abby. El único problema que encuentro es la forma de meter la trama de Abby, pues en lugar de intercalarla con la trama de Ellie como al principio del juego, te la meten entera después de terminar con la historia de Ellie, cosa que no acaba quedando bien. Pero en su conjunto es una secuela bastante digna al primer The Last of Us. Y por mi parte estaré encantado de seguir con la travesía de Ellie en un futuro juego o DLC.… Expand

    This game wants to bury everything seen in the previous installment, its history is poorly counted, although they had 7 years to develop it for this and many other things, I cannot compare it to the previous one, since in these types of games history is one of its pillars and in the first it was excellent but in this one you notice the script flaws and lack of connection with the characters.

    This game is a masterpiece, it brought teachings to life. For every situation in the game, there was a motivation. Revenge was the main one, but in the end it only took the loss on all sides. The teaching: No revenge is worth so much.

    O jogo é simplesmente sensacional, uma das melhores histórias que eu já vi ser contada em qualquer tipo de mídia.
    gráficos excelentes, sem dúvida um dos melhores já feitos, atenção que eles colocaram em cada mísero detalhe chega a assustar.
    Jogabilidade extremamente dinâmica é fluída, com variação de gameplay e movimentação simplesmente incrível

    Last of Us Part II is a 10/10 masterpiece, an achievement in gaming that better sweep awards. Trolls that attacked this game online can't take away its accomplishment. Oh and for the record I'm Team Abby, and it's not even close. Thank you Naughty Dog, you've come a long way since Uncharted.

    -Great sound design and visual effects
    -Heartfelt flashbacks of Joel and Ellie

    CONS:
    -Poorly written, one dimensional side characters
    -Convoluted story with odd pacing
    -Emotionally manipulative
    -Meaningless sex scene
    -Hypocritical sense of morality between Abby and Ellie
    -Lack of engaging puzzles
    -Transphobia is somehow present in a post apocalyptic world
    -The ending It's hard to sympathize with Abby and play as her when she just killed a beloved character in the series. (Ex: If I pointed out a stranger and told you that the stranger was a child abductor, unless you're convinced otherwise, you will not see that stranger in the same light) In the same way, we are forced to play as a character we've already labeled as a cold, heartless killer. Trying to change our mind that she's a better person than we thought is a much more difficult feat to accomplish than just playing that character fresh with no labels attached.

    With that being said, this game could have been so much better than what we've experienced. According to Neil Druckman, the game was initially planned to be open world and Abby's gameplay would be at the start of the game (BEFORE YOU KILL JOEL). This alone would have made the game much more palatable. (And would resolve the previous point made earlier about feeling like you're forced to play as Abby)

    Neil Druckman could have given the players a choice: Kill Joel/Don't kill Joel and Kill Abby/Don't kill Abby. There could have been alternate endings.

    Clearly the idea of morality in this game is hogwash. Abby kills Joel because he killed her dad even though Joel saved Abby in the past. You're telling me Abby couldn't feel the same way that Ellie felt at the end of the game? Both Ellie and Abby were fueled by revenge, but taking revenge was only bad for one of them? For me, the biggest elephant in the room was the nonsensical transphobic cult in a zombie driven world where society and modern culture are stripped away. It can't be helped that this was done to empower the LGBTQ community and there's nothing wrong with that, but at least make it a little more subtle. With all this being said, this game does not deserve neither the vast amount of 0/10 nor the 10/10 scores. Good things and bad things can be said about this game. Ultimately, what made The Last of Us such a special game is completely lost in this sequel.    … Expand

    It's clear that there are strong emotions internal and external to this game. A lot of the storytelling is brutal, and players are made to engage in actions and decisions that they may not agree with.     Sin duda la historia es el talón de aquiles del juego, pero todo lo que no respecta a la historia, es decir la jugabilidad, la enfermiza atencion al detalle, el diseño de los mapas y la inteligencia artificial de los enemigos le suman por lo menos 5 puntos en mi opinion. La comodidad de los controles junto a    Seamos realistas, no podés ponerle un 3 a un juego como The Last of Us Part II.
    Sin duda la historia es el talón de aquiles del juego, pero todo lo que no respecta a la historia, es decir la jugabilidad, la enfermiza atencion al detalle, el diseño de los mapas y la inteligencia artificial de los enemigos le suman por lo menos 5 puntos en mi opinion. La comodidad de los controles junto a la fluidez de las animaciones hacen el controlar a Elliie y Abby una experiencia sumamente óptima, y ni hablar de la calidad Gráfica. Cada vez que matas a un enemigo, sus compañeros gritan sus nombres entre indicaciones de combate, disparos y alaridos de dolor, y junto a otros detalles es una proeza tecnica. Le doy un 7 en lugar de un 5 debido a que la historia no empieza nada mal, aunque todos sabemos que pasa despues de ese primer acto tan bien llevado, los niveles empiezan a volverse repetitivos, el juego intenta darnos un mensaje mal llevado sobre la venganza, hasta que llega el tercer acto en la granja y en la isla y todo el potencial del juego y lo que nos habian contado se va al tacho, dandonos una tercera faccion totalmente innecesaria y parodicamente malvada que conduce a un final en donde Ellie perdona a Abby sin motivo aparente y despues de haber matado a cientos de soldados sin ningun tipo de remordimiento ¡Y PARA COLMO, EL JUEGO CASTIGA A ELLIE COMO SI HUBIERA CUMPLIDO SU VENGANZA, QUITANDOLE LOS DOS DEDOS Y LA COMPAÑIA DE DINA, SIENDO QUE ELLIE ENCONTRO EL PERDON (POR ALGUNA RAZON). Los chasqueadores dejaron de ser ese peligro que te mataba de un toque, y la I.A. de todos los zombies en general es nefasta.
    En fin, como ya dije lo unico bueno de su historia es su primer acto en Jackson hasta la muerte de Joel, y todo el resto del relato es una profunda decepción, pero todo lo demas esta tan bien hecho, tan perfectamente pulido y trabajado, respetando y hasta mejorando la increible jugabilidad del primer juego, mi conclusión es que The Last of Us Part II es un mal guion, y es HORRIBLE como secuela, pero es una MARAVILLA como juego y un buen ejemplo de como hacer un shooter de supervivencia en tercera persona.    … Expand

    I can’t believe the hate this game has gotten. Sure, images of the game leaked, and major story points were revealed. But, there is soooo much in this game that was not spoiled. So much of the emotion and complexity of the story can not be seen unless you play the whole thing. The characters are so complex, so deep, that I have played it twice and am still finding new ways to connect withI can’t believe the hate this game has gotten.     But it was destined to fail to live up to the first game. A snarky fun 14 year old Ellie who haven’t seen the world is gone.
    All those beautiful moments filled with a growing father and daughter-relation are now consumed of anger and resentment towards each other and themselves. Towards the end I felt more for Abby then    I absolutely love everything about this game, except the story.
    But it was destined to fail to live up to the first game. A snarky fun 14 year old Ellie who haven’t seen the world is gone.
    All those beautiful moments filled with a growing father and daughter-relation are now consumed of anger and resentment towards each other and themselves.
    Towards the end I felt more for Abby then Ellie but Last of us is about Joel and Ellie to me, so this just makes me confused.
    They didn’t need to shock us as much as the first game did, just could have given us more of that beautiful and engaging story to pursue.    … Expand

It can be somewhat overwhelming if that kind of thing gets to you, especially in the midst of the current pandemic. This is not a story that tries to make you feel happyI'm not a very good writer so I'll keep this short and spoiler-free. I loved the first game, a solid 9/10 game in my opinion. The sequel takes the moody, depressing world and fleshes it out over a solid 25-30 hour story. It can be somewhat overwhelming if that kind of thing gets to you, especially in the midst of the current pandemic. This is not a story that tries to make you feel happy and it never pretends to either. Video games typically don't get an emotional response out of me, but this one was different. I had been so invested in characters that returned from the first game and a couple new ones as well, but by the time you really get going you may not even recognize them as the same characters you interacted with in part 1, not because of poor writing, but through character development that's both believable and engaging. This isn't a story with a single "message" or "theme," there are so many ways you can look at the story and take from it what you will just like the first game, a game that inspired so much theory-crafting and discussions about the morality and where the story could possibly go from there. I'd say this story did the same, but not in the way many were expecting. There is a section of the game about 2/3rds through that seems to drag on far too long, but other than that I was immersed and invested in the characters and the setting.

    Gameplay is where I feel the game falls short of expectations. It really feels like more of the same with a few quality of life improvements. Part 1 came out in 2013, releasing a sequel seven years later with nearly the same combat makes it feel like an old game with a new coat of paint. It can be fun and it can get really intense but I really have to crank the difficulty up to keep it exciting.

    Overall I thought it was a fantastic story that took risks and still managed to keep me emotionally invested and immersed. The gameplay was lacking any real big improvements, but the actors performances were all fantastic. I'd say it's definitely worth playing to anyone with a Playstation 4.

    I'm really interested to see what's next for the series, be it a small side story like Left Behind or a bigger one like Uncharted Lost Legacy. Either way I'm on board and I will continue to be watching Naughty Dog to see what they achieve next.    … Expand

Yes Joel was done dirty, but I could accept that is possible for him to die. However I didn't like that you had to play as Abby as I felt she was been force in to make her likeable. I'm sure some people liked her but I didn't. Then after all the killing that Ellie does I'm not given the choice to end Abby instead she is allowed to get away. Yes they are trying to show closure by saying revenge is bad, but I feel they should have given players the choice of killing Abby or not.… Expand

    My issue is the gameplay. I play games because I want to feel a sense of accomplishment by defeating the game. But games like last of us or red dead only focus on the story.     So as a casual gamer I have only just completed the game probably later than most.

    I honestly cannot see how it can have been given bad reviews. The game play is greatly improved on. The story is stellar and that ending I was on the edge of my seat!!

Если рассматривать в купе с дизайном локаций, то нужно отметить возможность ложиться, на локациях присутствует трава, можно залезать под грузовики, что заметно увеличивает возможности геймплея, добавлены маленькие ништяки с разбиванием стекол, часто можно использовать воду, как элемент укрытия, это что касается левел-дизайна. Более возможность прокачивать несколько ветвей навыков, улучшена прокачка оружия, особенно приятна визуальная часть этого момента. Нельзя не сказать, что в некоторых моментах геймплей довольно затянут, игроку часто дается возможность поизучать окружающий мир, это как и плюс, так и минус, особенно для игроков, жаждущих непрерывного экшена, который тут кстати очень круто и качественно поставлен.
    Геймплей и левл-дизайн - 8.
    Итак, переходим к самому вкусному. Сразу скажу про ЛГБТ повестку, бояться ее явно не стоит, эта тема абсолютно не давит на игрока, а "традиционный" секс тут гораздо жестче, чем безобидные поцелуйчики главной героини. Сюжет. Очень трудно говорить что-то про него объективно. Скажу сразу. Эта игра - это воплощение боли и страданий, самое жестокое и тяжелое, что я когда-либо видел в физическом и тем более моральном плане. Эта игра не создана для того, чтобы ее любили. И в этом ее суть. Из нее не получится сделать ламповое прохождение, как это можно было сделать с первой частью. И это абсолютно уникальный эмоциональный опыт, который вы не получите ни в какой другой игре, не смотря на любые нюансы, именно поэтому такая разрозненность мнения игроков. Хочу сразу сказать, что абсолютно все персонажи раскрываются в полной мере, присутствует огромное количество деталей, которые будут просто выжимать из вас эмоции (не говоря уже об основных сюжетных моментах). Здесь представлен реальный мир, мир постапокалипсиса, где все могут проявлять как доброту, так и безграничную жестокость, неотъемлемую часть этого мира.
    Моя личная субъективная оценка The Last of Us Part II - 8,5, округляю до 9.

The Last of Us Part II es la experiencia mas fuerte y dura que pueda uno sentir en un videojuego pued logra muy bien el objetivo de mostrarte que en un mundo caotico, cruel y vil no existe alguien bueno o malo ya que te llega a poner en contra de la misma protagonista del juego, esto lo consigue dandote una montaña rusa de sentimientos que van del odio a la tristeza desde el principio del juego con la presentacion de un personaje nuevo, Abby quien entra de la manera mas fuerte posible, acabando con la vida del protagonista del anterior juego Joel en este punto embarcas una aventura impulsada por el deseo de venganza, en esta cruzada Ellie no estara sola pues ira acompañada de personajes como Jessie, Tommy y Dina siendo esta la que mas resalta de los 3 al ser la pareja de Ellie y su apoyo incondicional y sincero durante la aventura deja un vinculo muy fuerte con el jugador, el juego resalta en su jugabilidad y detalles que hacen cada vez mas inmersiva la experiencia de estar en ese mundo siendo entretenido explorarlo ya que en cada esquina puede como tambien no haber algo interesante. Llegara el punto en que empezaras a jugar con Abby y con ella pasaras al rededor de un 40% del juego, y este punto es totalmente nesesario para la historia ya que busca provarte el punto del juego dandote el pasado y los motivos de Abby mostrandotr que es un personaje que sufre y que tiene sus problemas y ademas que demuestra como el acto de amor del anterior juego de salvar a Ellie dejo fuertes repercuciones en Abby, y logra muy bien el echo de hacerte entender el personaje y hasta conectar con el, este juego te seguira llevando por diferentes momentos hasta el punto en que estaras en desacuerdo con el personaje de Ellie mostrandote como la venganza la consume h la lleva por un camino que le dejara fuertes cicatrices, ya que terminara con su redencion pero en un punto en que ya paga las consecuencias por tener el deseo de vengar a quien alguna vez fue lo mas parecido a un padre que pudo tener, por esto y mucho mas que solo se puede experimentar jugando esta obra de arte es que para mi es un 100/10 y vale mucho la pena jugarlo… Expand

    This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. I have been playing games for over 30 years and never have I been more disgusted with a game that I anticipated so much. This is a story driven game so the defense that the visuals, sounds, and gameplay are great fall short. Tlou1 was a triumph of amazing storytelling that was thought provocative and intense. Many people have stated that this game revolved around the concept of revenge, and a part of it did. However, the more important aspect was about justice. Ellie and Tommy sought justice on Abby after Joel and Tommy saved Abby from a horde after which she promptly tortures and murders Joel. Let that sink in. She tortured...and murdered...Joel. Yes, Joel killed her father. A clean kill without malevolence. A clean kill in an act of self defense for himself and the surrogate daughter that was never given the option of consent to sacrifice her own life for a cure. Joel's death was very early in the game and was so brutal it was an insta-hate moment for Abby. I was fine with all this. It was still good story building at this point. Good story building that was ruined with the onset of having to play Abby. This not only killed the story, but also made the game way to long. When I realized that I had to play through the same timeline with Abby that I did with Ellie, I was immediately disgusted. I did not care about her or her little band of hate-able misfits. I wanted to see justice for the brutal act placed upon Joel. I did not want to see a redemption arc, because I felt that redemption was impossible and not necessary to the story. It did not take me long to say screw it, put the difficulty to its easiest setting and begin plowing my way through to get the justice I so eagerly sought. I refused to upgrade a single aspect of Abby and was in my glory when I realized I could skip all of Abby's cuts-scenes too, which I did. I had no investment in this poorly developed character and her poorly developed friends. My only satisfaction at this point was that I was slowing killing off Abby's band. In fact a high point was Tommy shooting Manny in the head, because he was the one that spit on Joel's body. My march to justice moved forward until the confrontation scene at the theatre. This is where the festering disgust swelled into pure hatred of the game. Not only was I forced to confront Ellie as Abby, but Abby won the fight. I was robbed of my justice. This torturing, murderous monster was allowed to live. This made the following farmhouse scene (which you are thinking is the end game) tedious. When Ellie realizes she needs closure to heal and move on and therefore goes back onto the hunt for Abby, I allow my resentment to abate. It was here that the story got even worse. When I found Abby on the cross, there were so many options the developer could have given us but did not. I wanted to shoot her, or at the very least leave her there. Instead, I was forced to cut her down and then instigate a fight with her. A fight that I was robbed a second time of the justice I so craved as Ellie lets Abby live. This was utter rubbish and I had to double check to make sure this crappy story was not written my M. Night Shyamalan. This game destroyed everything that made the first one great. I am very confident that I will never purchase another Naughty Dog or Neil Druckman work. I was looking forward to this game so much and it ended up being the most disappointing gaming experience of my life. Sharing these feelings have given me a better perspective. They managed screwing up a beloved character, killing another in an over simplistic manner and to top it off they force you to engage and control a new character (who by the way had way more charisma and attention than the main chars) and expect you to care about her.

    All bad decisions leading up to a repetitive game with a uninteresting story centering itself in a character you don't care about. Way to go people.

    I've been making myself endure the game simply because I could not believe how much they f'd it up. Don't buy it, it's an exercise in frustration and patience.     Amazing story (as expected by the geniuses at naughty dog), I genuinely believe The Last of Us (I+II) is one of the best stories ever told by a video game/ movie/ tv show/ book or any other storytelling medium. However I feel the game-play could have been better, it is a bit repetitive and boring at times.

    Overall a huge disappointment. Seems like either the developers hated the fans OR they hated what they did in part 1 ORR they had some obsession towards Abby. Its so hateful to see the game enforcing the whole plot and characters to us.
    Zombies had nothing to do with the game. They were just there for the guns to work and to keep us busy between the cutscenes.
    The game so much wants to teach us about revenge and how killing can ruin a third person Abby's life however throughout the whole game we kill hundreds of people. Do they don't want to take revenge?

    Justo acabo de terminar una de las historias mejor contadas que me ha tocado ver en mi vida, lo que logran los autores con la narrativa y el ambiente inmersivo es alucinante, sin duda para mi el mejor juego de la generación y ha valido cada año la espera. Abby goes from hardcore no questions ask killer, to befriending a would be enemy, rediscovering her humanity, all completely independent of Ellie & her story.

    In the beginning of the game, Ellie has a fractured relationship with Joel & a burgeoning relationship with a pregnant Dina. After witnessing Joel's tortuous murder, Ellie's vow to kill Abby would have even made the God's quake for a second, But Owen, the future scar sympathizer, the man that wants to hope again w/ The Fireflies & Santa Barbara. Rather than being a pawn in the senseless violent war between The Seraphites & The WLF stands between Ellie, sparing her life.

    Ellie has come to Seattle to ***k **i* up & kill Abby, & she can't find Abby. As each day passes, Ellie ventures down a darker path, killing Jordan, torturing Nora, culminating in day 3, killing Owen & a pregnant Mel. For a moment Ellie realizes that her revenge led to greater pain, greater trauma and decides to return home...but then Abby appears having Tommy on the ground, shooting Jesse as he barges in... Eventually, Ellie is unable to defeat Abby, having her arm broken, Dina pierced with an arrow as Abby smashes Dina's head to the ground, she grabs her knife about to deal the killing blow to a pregnant woman as Ellie did to Mel. But Lev came to to the rescue. Lev a boy exiled from his group because of his identity built a kinship with Abby, who a week ago would have been his enemy & Abby spares them...again.

    Abby goes from hardcore no questions ask killer, to befriending a would be enemy, rediscovering her humanity, completely independent of Ellie & her story. Abby starts her story as an infantryman going to the FOB. Upon meeting Isaac, she then wants to find out the truth about Owen & Danny. On her way she is caught by Scars, as she's a kick of a barrel away from being hanged, Yara has her "wings" clipped for sympathizing with an apostate (her brother). Lev kills a scar, Abby saves Yara, the kindness is the returned as Yara tells Lev to cut Abby down. They work together to stay alive for how ever brief. Abby helps set Yara's arm & finds the truth about Owen & then bang.

    Day 2 is pretty simple, Abby feels compelled to seek out Yara & Lev, leading Abby to bring Yara to the aquarium. Yara's arm need to be cut off, so Abby & Lev journey to the hospital. They bond a bit, in their fear, while also speaking of their respective factions’ "truths". But Day 3 is when everything is turned to an 11. Lev goes to the island because he still hopes his mom would break from her ways coming with him (sorry Lev) to Santa Barbara. Abby & Manny have a tussle with some sniper guy (RIP Manny), luckily, Yara intervenes in the scuffle & they're able to find a boat eventually reaching Lev, On their way out of the Island, Abby unfortunately comes face to face with Isaac. Isaac about to pull the trigger on Abby to kill a scar kid, is killed by Yara. In these few seconds, Abby escapes with Lev eventually leading back to the aquarium where Abby awaits, Owen, Mel & Alice to have the boat ready for Santa Barbara. Only to find Alice dead, Owen shot & Mel stabbed.

    18 months later, we see Ellie (still plagued by Joel's death) in a farmhouse with Dina & JJ. When an opportunity to resolve this trauma comes by a disgruntled Tommy, Ellie has to take it... but wait you have Dina & JJ, Abby let you live not once but twice, but you're still going for revenge. (I guess Ellie really does not appreciate what she has until it's gone). After reaching Santa Barbara, acquiring a very nice silencer rifle. She finally finds Abby (a husk of her former self, both literal & figurative), cuts her down but Abby doesn't care about Ellie, she cuts down Lev, carries him to the boats & hopefully reach the fireflies once again. But Ellie, having gone through hell for this moment, musters up the want for revenge. It's unsatisfying, this isn't the Abby that killed Joel, or the Abby in the theater, once a lingering memory of Joel comes to Ellie, she chooses to spar Abby. Revenge was Ellie's driving force, what changed... it's not going to honor Joel or help with Ellie's trauma. It will only continue the cycle of revenge & senseless violence (sounds like the whole WLF & Seraphite story line playing as the backdrop to the exact same drama between Ellie & Abby).

    If anything, The Last of Us 2 is about finding a purpose. Ellie & the prospect of the cure, later adopted by Tess, Joel "saved" Ellie who filled a Sara sized hole in his heart, Owen had the hope of the Fireflies & Santa Barbara with Mel, Yara, Lev & Abby adopting that dream. Dina had Ellie & JJ. But what did Ellie and Tommy have, after Joel's death… revenge. It consumed them to that point of self-destruction. But Ellie, letting Abby live, goes on to find her purpose (Dina & JJ).    … Expand

    The Last of Us Part II is the high point of the PlayStation 4. The plot is controversial, but the game is the incredibly addictive adventure of Ellie, from which it is impossible to pull away from the opening and to the very end.

But if you try and manage to accept the subliminal and not so subtle messages as a fact that the world has gone awry and that people have the need to have somewhere or someone to belong to as their own way out, then... You will witness the boundaries of gaming expand. You will witness a true masterpiece.
