I created an account just to review this game. It's really visually appealing but it's not enough to save the game.

This game is the death stranding antithesis. Nice gameplay, and terrible history. They try to subvert expectations and broke the game, just like the last Star Wars.

An amazing and improved version of The Last of Us i terms of Gameplay and Graphics.....Naughty Dag did a very good job to using the PS4 hardware which is outdated and still developing this stunning looking game. The story was good too and I get why people hated it.....its not for everyone.

I honestly went into this game not expecting much, partly because I thought TLOU didn't need a sequel and because it lacked the MP component which I loved. I had also seem some of the leaks before I got to play and while I didn't get the whole game spoiled I had enough revealed that I didn't like what I had read.

However, after playing the game myself I can definitely say that this game was amazing. Not as good as the first, story wise, but only marginally behind it. It's a story that once played has impact. Abby ended up not being a character that I completely hated by the end of the game either, contrary to how I felt at the beginning. Gameplay wise it takes the best parts of the first and improves them greatly. Adding more mechanics, weapons, and tools to play with. The technical aspects (graphics and animation) were top notch of course as is often the case with Naughty Dog's games.

This was a game that I definitely needed to play myself to actually get the experience that was needed to from it. While it definitely doesn't stand ahead of the first, it can stand right along side it as a fantastic game that should be played if the opportunity arises.

Many are so desperate to recognize who represents the protagonist & the antagonist (good & bad). There is no such thing. It is simply a concept of human perception, like time. Ellie and Abby only represent themselves, as human beings. The game hints at a deeper meaning than just revenge. Hey bud, I heard you hate this game with a burning passion. I can tell you why. You're soft, and a little upset Ellie can't be your imaginary girlfriend anymore.

Anyways, the story was immaculately airtight and told brilliantly. Admittedly, I felt that the Abby portion of the game could have maybe used a little different pacing. It was great to see everything slowly piece together.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. I enjoyed the game for 13 hours straight, yes, the story was not as compelling as that of the first title, but it was still good enough that it kept me motivated, plus my love for the characters pushed me forward to fulfill their objectives. I got scared, I was engaged, I was driven by anger, I felt that I was one with Ellie. I played the game at night, wearing headphones and with the lights off just to be as immersed in the game as possible, in short: I was having a fantastic experience, but then...

i have no clue what went through Druckmann's mind, how in the hell would I want to play as Abby, it has nothing to do with her being the "villain" or the way anyone wants to interpret it, it is the fact that I have to go to the theater to kill Ellie, and I know I'm making it there because we are shown that they meet after 13 hours of playing with Ellie, so there is not even a shade of doubt regarding my objectives or destination.

I am not going to mention the bad storytelling or the plotholes because I do not care about them, I could do with bad writing as long as I am playing as the people that i had learned to love 6 years ago. In the end, the 10 hours I played as Abby, to me, were not enjoyable, I stopped playing at night, I stopped wearing headphones and I did not care about anything about it, I paced through it in one day because I couldn't bring myself to play as her and to top it all off I have to bash Ellie's head in too, like WTF?

i am really disappointed with this game, not just because I did not enjoy it, but because I had so much faith in ND to produce a game which would at least match the first one's level of emotion, and in turn I ended up hating the sequel to my favourite game ever.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. I NEVER leave reviews. I enjoy reading them but never felt conflicted enough to spend the time I have to actually leave one. Until now. I read so much hate on this game. Hours of reviews, of videos, even of conversations with friends. But all of it is complete malarkey. This is a beautifully designed and written game. I am blown away at the pettiness people have towards such minuscule things that actually make the game so great! I understand that people have developed feelings towards certain characters based off the first(also amazing) game. And what happened in this game definitely shook me to my core. But when has a game done that for you?! When did a game challenge you and your complete way of thinking towards a situation? We are so focused on our own issues, our own thoughts that we can’t even see what is going on from another point of view. But this game does that. This game is firing on so many levels and showing people there is a story to both sides and literally puts you in their shoes. Also being completely diverse with its characters is just incredible. Even in an apocalyptic world people are going to be who they are. And raging mushroom headed monsters or scars or rattlers or anyone for that matter is going to change that. I wanted to write a review because I believe this game is so much more than just a game. I wanted to give it the justice it deserved. I am sorry that people are having issues with characters or story line or whatever it is but I just think their perception is slightly blinded by the hurt they may have felt. I did have some pretty high expectations but this game blew right past them. I am so sad it is over but so glad I got to go through it. So anyways, I hope whoever is reading this, whether they have or have not played the game, just keep an opened mind. We all got to be apart of an amazing journey and that is that part we cannot forget. Thank you for you time. Expand

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. I think the og The Last of Us is a good game, but nothing spectacular. So this is a unbias review of this one. The Gameplay is still very basic despite a generation gap between the two games. Jump and dogging is interesting at the moment, but then you will remember games that already had those things and did it so much better. Is very clear that this game is 100% focused on its story.

Story-wise The Last of Us Part Two is a rollercoaster of quality in both of it's "campaigns" Scenes like Joel's death and Abby finding Owen and Mel's corpses are powerful. On the other hand, the Scars are uninteresting and taking 24 hours to tell three days while the original had 16 hours to tell a year put the story down. This seven is entirely subjective because (outside of Joel's death, Abby's character and the Ending) every flaw the internet pointed out that didn't come from sexists and/or homophobics bothered me in my time with it. But I am willing to give those problems a pass because, to me, the highs of this game are far higher than any other Naughty dog game.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. the game themes are more heavily entangled with moving on then just saying revenge is bad. honestly, I find it tragic that this premise can be forgotten due to this game's poor storytelling method of constantly trying to make the player feeling bad for murdering all these random people on behalf of Jole by attempting to dehumanize Ellie by showing her murderous rampage and humanize Abby by showing how amazing her life was before Joel and by reminding the player she had has hopes, dreams and fears .every thing just seems so forced upon you that you just want to deny it all but in reality, Joel is a terrible person he know that and doesn't regret it and he's past was bound to catch up with him Ellie was clearly hurting her self more than help by going through this journey and Abby did the right thing not by letting elie live but by moving on but the story invokes the wrong emotions. In essence, it's contradictory itself the story is always telling you revenge is bad but never showing the charter them selfs acknowledging this Abby loss every one but never once stops to ask Ellie why and same goes for Ellie.a a lot of people are upset not because this game is bad but because we expect it to be better after watching the ending to this game it was so unsatisfying and underwhelming that all I really wanted to do now is move on but I couldn't do so without understanding hopeful other people after watching this video will be able to see what this game was trying to say but didn't and will move on. My only issue with this game is the pacing. The gameplay is fun but repetitive, not too bad until the 1/2-2/3 way through the game do you start to feel exhausted. after finishing this game twice, the story is a lot deeper than i first thought. the ending wasn't overly satisfying but i struggle to see how it could have been too different. story isn't perfect but i enjoyed my journey and the several points that made me stop and think about life in general.

A lot of issues I've noticed are centred around the story. Whether you love or hate this game depends really on if you get on board with the narrative direction the story takes the player.

Naughty Dog make some extremely bold choices and I have to say I understand why people take issue with the story.

For me though it was perfect...

To address the story, and how it is not remotely similar to the first game, I contend that the purpose of the second game was supposed to be different from the first. The first was a masterpiece, and therefore should not be repeated last we risk a boring and milked out plot. Therefore the second installment, as it showed, demonstrated another groundbreaking deviation from the gaming norms just like the first. I suggest everyone to play this game before giving their final thought. I understand that it might not be the best game or the game that you asked and expected; however, it needs to be said that this will be a once in a generation success in terms of gameplay, graphics, story, and character development. Having just played Part 1 before finishing Part 2, I would have to say they are both equally amazing. It would seem people are romanticizing Part 1 so much they never gave Part 2 a chance.

Part 2 was clearly a segue to Part 3. People need to relax for a minute before they write such angry reviews in mass that Part 3 is never made based on a false notion from Internet trolls.

In TLoU2 the story leave you with a feeling that you just watched a pilot episode of a cancelled TV-series. So empty and I would not recommend anyone to play this game if you have a positive memory of TLoU 1.

About the content in the story, I have not a problem of the characters choises in life. I just feel that the characters does things for the wrong reason and it's just a big failure.. I can't see what plans the developers had for the story.

Perhaps there can be DLC's that enhance the story and explains one or two things. But that wont correct the wrongs that were made. I feel empty after playing this game.

There are so many negative reviews that criticize the story direction NaughtyDog took, but I applaud them for doing so instead of doing fan-service and produce a likable but predictable story of Ellie and Joel.

After completing the game, I am glad that I've ignored all the good and bad comments about the game and took my time to enjoy the game as a whole. In short, if you wondering whether you should invest your time in this game, I wholeheartedly say YES and skip the rest of my review below.

Here are a few thoughts about the game after completion (no spoilers):

    1. STORY: In my opinion, the story and the way it unfolds throughout the game is very well thought through and crafted. Yes, the violence is a bit over the top at times, and there are times where I wish I am able to intervene certain scripted actions of my characters. However, having that feeling also proves the story has grown on me and I care about what the characters' actions going to be. Not many games that I played in the past were able to do that to me.
Having said that, the reason to have the last chapter of the game felt a bit forced so we get a more climactic end. Rather being analytical about it, just enjoy it. Also to note is the key story lesson imparted to the player will only be revealed at the very end of the game, and it's something that has been echoed by the supporting characters around our two key characters of the game.

    2. GAMEPLAY: I vaguely remember how TLOU1 plays like, but overall the gameplay mechanics felt the same with some enhancements. Nothing wrong with that as it retains what's already great in the first game. As a casual FSP game player, I did wished the character movement and weapon aiming mechanics could be more snappy rather. The introduction of sniffing dogs which will hunt you down and some tough infected beings is a good addition, which forces me to move around sometimes instead of just hiding in the same spot of comfort.
Enemy AI is probably one of the weakest points of this game overall, where at times they feel downright dumb. Maybe it will be improved when playing at a higher difficulty setting (I played in Moderate setting).

    3. GRAPHICS & GAME ATMOSPHERE: No question on the graphics department, as NaughtyDog would have spent a lot of effort from various concept art of game locations to the detailed finished environment of the various game locations. But what I loved the most is the sound design. From the tranquil rainfall of Seattle to the eerie silence of dark, infested rooms and buildings, it really draws me into the situation of the characters in the game.

    4. MUSIC: Love it, the songs are very well composed for the game in cutscenes, and blends well to the various real-time events during the game very well. Not to mention a few pieces of songs sang by some game characters with accompanying acoustic guitar.

    5. GAME CHARACTERS: Excellent voice acting plus the emotions portrayed in the fine nuances eyes, facial and body language really shines through in the game cutscenes. key character backstory development is sufficient for the story as it progresses towards the excellent final hours and conclusion of the game.

    Played on: PS4
Total playtime: 37 hours 27 minutes
    Difficulty: Moderate
Favorite games: The Witcher 3, God of War (2018), Mass Effect Trilogy, Tomb Raider (reboots), Uncharted, TLOU1

Expand

The game forces you to like a character that you play for 3 hours and kills the protagonist of the first game that you spend 10 hours of your time playing and enjoying him. And the way they killed him was also horrible, it wasn't even halfway through the game that Joel goes and surrenders to people he doesn't even know. The message that this game tried to send too... "Revenge is a stupid game" Ellie kills all of Abby's friends just to in the end gives up on killing her.
I couldn't sympathize with Abby at all, every time I played with her I just wanted her to die.
And some unnecessary scene by the way.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. I find it interesting that most people who scored the game 0/10 pretty much had nothing to say except for that they hate women with muscles, that Ellie happens to like another woman, or that there is no character development at all. Makes me wonder if they actually played the game from start to finish or if they just jumped up on the hate train. Here is my take as a person who absolutely loved the first game and have been waiting patiently for the second part. And boy do they start with a kick to your gut. I read that the story is a lot darker than the last one, and it sure is.

People talk about character development as if it's supposed to go from one extreme to the other, but only from bad to good, from immature to experienced, from follower to leader. And for parts of TLOU2, that is true. Abby, first introduced as the person we're supposed to hate, who killed Joel, goes from a cold, rational, revenge seeking woman to some who starts to emphasize with people who are supposed to be her enemies. Her story with Lev is one of my favourite parts, and really shows how she went from killing enemy kids to doing everything she can to protect 2 strangers.

Ellie on the other hand goes from having it all, friends, a "father", a safe home and even a blossoming relationship to slowly descending into the madness of revenge, willing to give up her happiness and future in the pursuit of what she perceives as salvation. Whether people like it or not, that too is character development. In a way, they switched places over the course of the story. Did my alignment change as well? I can't say. All I can say though is that the last fight **** broke my heart, in the best way possible that a game could achieve. What else is there to say? I loved the story, the fighting is awesome (same concepts as the last one but adding in the option to play zombies and enemies against each other is amazing, the music really manages to capture the feel and the graphics, well, it's Naught Dog. Was I annoyed at the fact that I suddenly had to play as my enemy after the first act? Sure. But that didn't deter me from finishing the game, and I sure am glad I didn't.

Overall I can say that this game tugged my heartstrings just like the first one did, and it greatly saddens me that people can't get over their own bigotry and enjoy the game for what it is. But if you're gonna be upset at women with big muscles, sure, skip this one. But if you do decide to play it, I promise it will be worth it.

I can can tell that the level of LGBTQ+ representation is this: there are gay/trans characters in this game. It doesn't derail the story in anyway. These characters simply exist. And they're great.

When I sat down to play the game I was instantly hooked. It's a thrilling, emotional and devastating revenge story that barely let's you catch your breath. The writers do an incredible job at showing the futility and destructiveness of revenge as well as the grey morality of the characters. The switching perspectives between protagonists will make you realize no character is completely good or evil, they all have their own motivations and their own stories. You'll begin to feel like every NPC you kill has lived a life just as rich and full as Ellie and Joel have. Which adds significant weight to every encounter. It's a difficult thing to come to terms with as a gamer, as you are so used to feeling certain throughout the game that what you are doing is right. You will not feel like that playing this game.

Yes this game is heartbreaking. Yes it's not what many players wanted to become of these beloved characters. But it's an example of some of the most gripping storytelling in gaming I've experienced (I haven't been as hooked to a story since Red Dead Redemption 2) and it left me staring blankly at my TV for the entire duration of the end credits. Feeling a thousand emotions at once. Gamers are emotional. So I completely understand some people's anger at the story. But the story is fantastic nevertheless. Please ignore the controversy and negativity surrounding it and play this game. It's incredible.

One can clearly see Druckmann's sentiments with Bruce Straley's creation, the beautifully written TLOU 1 and Joel/Ellie, that he despised the great universe he inherited. He took characters that provided hope and an interesting story only to twist it, by being needlessly violent and sadistic, in a pathetic and useless way, with his storytelling.

Some things that the hitchhiker Druckmann did, thinking he was being clever. (After all his in-game trading card had him "Brain 100"):

-Fabricating footage in the trailers, swapping character models, and claiming that Ellie is the only playable character(as well as his co-director Anthony Newman claiming you don't have to kill dogs but there's an unavoidable QTE) -> Failed.

As Druckmann said in an interview "Protect the story" but a leaker foiled that disgusting, money-grubbing tactic of "wanting the cake and eating it too" i.e lying to the fans "Hey I made a game that honors the first one" in hopes of getting their money, whilst simultaneously pushing your own second-rate narrative and pandering messages. The leaker, in a heroic manner, saved many people from spending money on the sequel that does nothing but spit on them, yet Naughty Dog did their best "to save fans from spoilers" by DMCA striking every single YouTube/Reddit/Twitter account to prevent their False Advertising and sleazy marketing from being exposed prior to release.

-Add 12 hours of gameplay from the perspective of an NPC's daughter/Joel's killer in hopes that the player realises Abby's humanity and empathises with her. Even went as far as to make it very difficult for Ellie not to kill every dog she encounters and have Abby pet and play with dogs with ease. Even went as far as to rewrite the incompetence, desperation, and barbarity of the Fireflies from the original TLOU 1 - in hopes of letting the player forget the voice notes/documents found showing how foolish the so-called vaccine plan was - to paint Joel as a selfish, cruel, man. -> Failed.

Abby playthrough was, as a whole, a chore, a bore, and an uninspiring, unrealistically built, character. that not only had no qualms with killing her own people days after meeting the 2 seraphite exiled kids Lev/Yara, but had no qualms banging a man with a pregnant girlfriend. Such a poorly written, bottom of the barrel, character having half the game's playtime doesn't surprise me when an incompetent director is in charge of a large, heavily awaited, sequel. Druckmann flopped under pressure and succumbed to his inferiority.

Anyways, the appreciation of this story solely relies on your ability to relate to an NPC's daughter avenging her father that wanted to murder an unconcious child, without her consent, for chances at a so-called vaccine, with a bunch of side characters that get got and a few meaningful ones.

No one, one the score scale, is really arguing about the beauty/music/gameplay/graphics of this game as that's top-notch. Because those people did their due diligence in making sure their job is done properly. It seems the story director for this game Hitchhiker Druckmann, was caught up his own arse for so long, he forgot he had to come up with a decent script up until release.

Remember folks, never trust trailers, or any promotional material from these game companies. Never trust, always verify. There won't always be a based leaker that saves you from the greatest sleazy scummy act, like Naughty Dog tried to pull, with regards to other wanna-bes

This sequel takes the human complexity and emotional turmoil of the first game and extends it to new and more exciting heights. I thoroughly enjoyed this game and the risks Naughty Dog took with it. This game challenges every emotion you can possibly feel and if you're heart is open like it no doubt was when you played the first game, it will masterfully manipulate you to love characters you otherwise wouldn't think twice about and question their decisions-- for better or worse.

Story aside, the gameplay is pristine. It takes the real and gritty approach from the first installment and improves upon it greatly. Both character and inventory movement flow seamlessly and are highly satisfying. The variety of approaches and combat devices Naughty Dog has thrown into this game is so dope. I didn't even know you could jump on top of enemies and knife them until my third playthrough! Whether you want slow and anxious stealth or hard-hitting gory action this game more than delivers.

This game is more than a game, really. It is a comment piece on the human psyche and the actions it warrants. It really challenges the gamer's perception of our own world with a complex narrative and engrossing combat that leaves the player drawn in and wanting more.

It may not be the best ending or story for what everyone expected, but it was a **** adventure to play it. Honestly the best game I’ve ever played. 10/10 Expand

The story focus only on agenda disregarding the main characters of the first game just to pander to the SJW who rarely buy games. do not buy if you like good story.

My disappointment is immeasurable, and my day is ruined.
I waited 5 years to play this
And they gave me a horrible intro and **** ending
I just want to forget about this game.

The Last of Us Part II is the high point of the PlayStation 4. The plot is controversial, but the game is the incredibly addictive adventure of Ellie, from which it is impossible to pull away from the opening and to the very end.

Not everyone is going to enjoy the motives of The Last of Us Part II. But if you try and manage to accept the subliminal and not so subtle messages as a fact that the world has gone awry and that people have the need to have somewhere or someone to belong to as their own way out, then... You will witness the boundaries of gaming expand. You will witness a true masterpiece.

If you loved the original for its great characters and well-paced story – stay away from this game. However, if you’re aching to sink into the depths of depression, or just want to cut some throats and burn some zombies – Part II will deliver. [Issue#247, p.72]
