This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Spoiler alert... Great visual, great action, great CG and Characters design, but...
If the studio wants to keep sharing the same game title: The Last Of Us, they'd better concern more about how the players would react to how the game is turning in PART II.
I don't mind if the story designed Joel's death in the game, but at least not at the first couple of hours of entering the story. It ruined the player's tie with the main character. We have all invested emontionlly into Joel throughout the first LastOfUs game. Framing Joel's death in the first 2 hours in PART II? That just ruined my mood for the rest of the game play. I have no enjoyment at all. I did not care how Ellie and Dina explore the city of Seattle at all. All the time they spent in the city were waste of time in my opinion. Yet, getting the revenge isn't what I care either. There is no close tie between the game characters and us - the true player behind the controller. The PART II has lost what made it popular in PART I.
I appreciate the game developers who put their time and efforts in developing this game, but I believe they would be appreciated much much more if the story wasn't what it is right now. There are a lot gaps and holes in the way how the game tells its story. Constant memory flashback did not change the fact that as player I have no interest in going any further with the game.
To respect my money spent on this game, I at least want to finish the game once so I have played through the whole game before start writing my reviews and comments. I am giving the score of 5 for the whole game. But if scoring only the story telling and structure, I would give 3 instead.
Next time, I won't trust any reviews came out prior to the release date. It appears all of those popular reviewers are afraid of putting negative reviews. There are definitely "controllers" around this. I don't like the false review, especially for the games that I loved.

The story isn’t that memorable, which is the most important part to me. I don’t care that she is gay, but they will remind you that Ellie is homosexual every 5 minutes, because obviously you forgot the last 45 times they told you. Just wish they would have focused more on the story and less on the sexual orientation of the characters. Expand

The new characters just don't connect with you in the process like Joel and Ellie did in part 1, you just think "Ok, it's just another character" and there are a lot of plot holes. I mostly enjoyed the first half of the game playing as Ellie. I mostly hated the second half playing as Abby. The game play mechanics and graphics are improved, but the story isn't enjoyable, and they kill off characters you loved from the first game and replace them with less likable characters. Overall a mixed bag for me.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. There’s so many narrative issues. Abby isn’t a good character. She shows no remorse for her friends deaths, other than Owens I guess. She doesn’t care about anyone but Lev. She’s extremely dislikeable and it’s so obvious in the writers manipulation to get the audience to like her in her storyline. Her storyline consists of side missions basically.. Getting medicine to amputate an arm???? Going off to rescue a transgender boy confronting his mom?? What the **** Who gives a **** My problem isn’t with Joel dying. It’s how he died. It wasn’t deserved or earned. It’s obvious the writers should’ve worked in a different way of killing him because clearly, with all the backlash, they didn’t do it right. Great graphics and gameplay but that story sucks man. And oh my god, why is there a pregnant **** running around in the apocalypse?? Dina is about as interesting and engaging as watching paint dry. All I know about her is she’s Bi and she’s a Jew. Jessie, Dina, and Yara are three throwaway characters. Jessie is there to be a dumbass and get Dina pregnant. Dina is there as a love interest. And Yara is there to get her arm cut off and mowed down with assault rifles. Abbys storyline is a waste of time running errands for characters who aren’t interesting. Lev is transgender, that’s great, he’s still boring damnit. Ellie has changed so much, part of that I can understand as it’s been a few years and she’s grown up. But man she is just a sad, boring mess. Only reason I cared about her is because I consistently reminded myself why I liked her in the first game. The portions with Joel and Ellie were perfect and it all worked. I don’t know why they couldn’t have just made that Part II and have this story as part III. This entire game blows. Expand

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Expand

Just a very meh game. The story is mediocre and the new characters are bland and forgettable. The music is also not very memorable. The gameplay is serviceable but gets old halfway through the game. The graphics and art style are exceptional and performances are stellar. Not much more to say.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Was exciting to play through but i hated playing as Abby. Best part about her part was the creative ways you let someone end her or jump of a cliff etc. Not because she's buff but because how she was written and how she was forced upon the player for 12 hours while the game focuses everything into getting me to find sympathy for her. She likes dogs, Ellie kills dogs and so on, it was very annoying.
i just wish the story would've been about someone else than Joel and Ellie (If you have to do it like this)

Worst parts of the game was just another flashback with Owen and how much Abby loves him and has an affair with him and then doesnt care if she's kills unborn babies, just found her creepy and annoying. Didnt care for her and i blame the writers. I loved the sniper part though and some aspects, i just wish it would be shorter and the rest would be a DLC. I would've loved a good story involving Joel and Ellie, instead we get a mediocre, badly paced one but a crazy emotional one, which was the positive part. I would've loved to take out good chunk of her playtime and play Tommy instead, shoot Manny and Abby and people would be like whoa Abby was crazy but she's over.

This is an amazing world that could've cast new characters and it would've been such a better accomplished game if it wouldnt have been this needless sequel imo.
The graphics, music, stealth system and everything is so good, i loved proning and taking down the entire team while crafting more arrows, just everything was so fluid. Ellie was really cool and obviously people change and all that, so i enjoyed the ride, i just dont agree with the story direction, the endless drama of every single thing, pregnant medic mothers going on missions because why ?

Who is this stupid to allow that to slow the team down in the first place ? And then 2 pregnant dramas that happen after that, forced social politics and the length of Abby's nonsense, how ND thought this move would be popular is beyond me. The subverting expectations and the exaggerating drama scenes for the sake of drama, was a tad bit much for my taste. I felt it was absolutely perfectly written in the first game and Left Behind but i feel the 70% staff leaving ND had something to do with the pacing, writing for this game. Also the co-writer of the first game and Left Behind had nothing to do with this game, so it was just Neil and his new Westworld TV show writer.

I love how many female characters are in this game, i just wish the ideas for them wasnt always reprisenting some social politics, its a female character so she has to have an agenda, this one is gay, this one is also gay, this one is trans and this one is bulky.
Nothing wrong with having that in game but it felt so forced and it bothered me. Im pretty sure all the expendable straight women were killed because they didnt reprisent some agenda, yet magicly the reprisentatives none of them got killed, not even Bill in the first game lol loved that guy. My complaint has nothing to with being gay etc in general, its just how its implemented.

Game definetly has its strengths though, the flashbacks between Ellie and Joel were by far the best moments in this game, gameplay wise its phenomenal and the graphics, the audio is absolute world class, i dont think ive had as good audio in a game before. Shows that their crunch really paid off for this game to look good, also concerning how the new president is desperatly trying to restore ND image because of controversy happening there and 70% of the staff leaving. But regardless i feel this was an uneccessary sequel, its so bad and its so good.

I want to give it a 7 because it was quite the ride but i also wanna give it a 3 because there so many stupid decisions made in making of this game, especially how the workers were overworked, and regarding the game itself how boring the new characters are and how poorly paced the story is, how this revenge story sucks (Just like Neil was told when he wasnt president) and how the shock value and subverting expectations was prevalent in every single scene. It could've been so much better but ND got stuck in the trenches and had to finish their product in the end with Sony breathing down their necks.

TLOU1 followed by Left Behind was an absolute masterpiece and this is just a more brutal and exaggerated spin-off that doesnt even cast the same characters. The old characters are nothing like themselves, its like Neil either forgot ( since its been over 10 years since the other game was in development) or he doesnt care. It doesnt feel like a Part 2 , just a poor sequel that i cant bring myself to play again.

The reason why TLOU2 was a shot on the foot from a studio that is masterclass on storytelling:

    - The Last of Us Part 1: We don't even know Joel, but we know that he is a worker on a normal world. World that goes kaboom and the first random persons appearing on the game (a couple with a kid) Joel said "don't stop" to Tommy. From here you started to build a character that don't trust no one and this isn't even in the apocalyptic world we will see.
In another scene Joel sees a man asking for help and he immediately knew it was an ambush.
Joel kills numerous people in Part 1, so he knows that is ass is asking for revenge of someone.
    Joel uses fake names.

    - So Part 2: In middle of the game Abby said she got a lead, suggesting that they don't know where they are, and in any part of the game is showed they know how Joel or Tommy looked like.
But Abby and the group found the town, Joel saves Abby. In the middle of a runaway Tommy had time to make introductions and said their real names. This don't make any sense, Tommy learned from the years in this world to don't do that, he was a firefly, and killed people too, and knew that Joel killed many people.
They go to Abby's hideout and things start to be very bad in terms of contradict character build:
1 - Everyone or many of the Abby's group are with guns in hand, Joel and Tommy leaved theirs on horses.
2 - Joel stands in the middle of all group, a guy that don't trusted a couple with a kid, killed hundreds of people and know how ambushes work.
3 - Tommy again slipped is name, but don't says Joel's name.
4 - If this, for you, is not a shot in the foot of ND, or is a spit on one of the best characters in industry of gaming this is:
5 - Joel standing without a gun, surround by a group he don't know, helpless if something happened said his real name "Joel".

ND, or should I say, Neil Druckman don't give a **** about Joel's character, if this don't prove to you that, this should:

He makes you play half of the game, or even more with the person who killed Joel. But if this is even not enough for you, put it in this perspective: Imagining play half of the game with any daughter, mother, wife, of some random npc or character Joel killed.

Believe when I say that TLOU Part 3, if it comes out, will be a failure. Because now ND and Neil Druckman can't put Abby's character on the trash can, so or you will have to play with her again or they don't bring her in the third game and that will be another shot on the foot because you literally made a game around her and now you toss her out so people will question "why do you did that in Part 2 and know Abby isn't even here?"

I'm not saying that Joel didn't deserved to die or that I wouldn't accept that he dies. But you do it without breaking is character core and definitely don't force fans to have to play half of the game with his killer.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. The Last of Us was the game that re-introduced me to modern gaming. It showed how we are in a golden age of gaming where they are practically interactive movies. I was so excited for this game.... then the leaks happened.

For context, I'm a progressive person who is sympathetic to the LGBTQ community and I laughed at the overly sensitive conservatives who automatically assumed that Abby was a transgender person. But I was also frusterated when I learned what the game planned to do with the beloved characters of the first game. Still I decided to try the game with an open mind.

Is this a good game? Yes, absolutely. Is it a good sequel to "The Last of Us"? Absolutely NOT and I honestly wish they had never even made this game because it's a story that didn't need to be told. For starters, Sony and Naughty Dog straight up LIED about what this game would be. There is a trailer that clearly shows Joel joining Ellie on her quest at some point but that was a complete LIE. When the scene plays out in the actual game, it is a different person who you don't even care about. Ridiculous and I honestly can't believe more people aren't calling them out for that specific lie.

Here's the deal, I thought I was going to hate playing as Abby but here story line was the only thing I found truly compelling in the game. They made Ellie so unlikable and foolish in this game that that's the reason why I wish they'd never even bothered making this game. All in all, the story leaves you feeling hopeless because it was totally meaningless and not well executed. If this game was marketed differently, as a game set in the universe of the Last of Us but not a direct sequel I think it'd be easier to forgive, but the current game just trashes what made the game special in the first place

Another problem I have with the story; who was the moron that decided it was worthwhile to have you kill dogs? For the most part you have a choice in killing them but at one point in the game, you are FORCED to kill a dog. The worst part is that the game has the nerve to guilt trip you for something it FORCED you to do! Just such lazy story telling.

lastly, the game play is improved but still weak. The Last of Us never had great game play but it was servicable and held up mainly by it's story. Here, the story is just poorly placed garbage so all you are left with is a slightly refined combat system that wasn't special in the first place. By the last hours of the game, I'd had enough and turned the difficulty down all the way so I could just run past every enemy encounter to progress the crappy story.

For the positives, the game is obviously beautiful and there are some amazing 10/10 moments in the game, but when you mix crap with ice cream all you end up doing is ruining the ice cream and making the crap marginally better but still not palatable. Lastly, I LOVE and appreciate how Naughty Dog added so many well thought out customizations. This is truly awesome and something I wish every developer would do.

Want to adjust the difficulty? You are allowed to customize almost every game play element to your liking. For me, I made the enemies extreamly weak to my bullets but I made myself extreamly weak to theirs, creating an almost one shot one kill game. I also made the game much more leniant with supplies so I could have more fun with shooting guns.

I hated trying to aim with a controller (my fault, not the games) but I was able to implement a slow down mechanic to help make it a little easier. When you compare this to a game like Red Red Redemption 2, which is amazing in almost every way but so incredibly poor how the developers let you actually play the game I really think Naughty Dog should be applauded for this one area of the game.

Outside of that, I finished this game and now I just want to forget the whole experience. The only reason this isn't a fully negative review is because of the few great moments in the game and the care they took in the customization features

As per my promise of no spoilers in my review I will share that this game's narrative structure could have worked and left a compelling and thought-provoking impact on the players but with the two issues alluded to previously it falls apart and from those points forward, the game loses any emotional impact and is finishes with an unresolved and unearned conclusion.

Games as an experience are perfectly welcome, but without proper narrative structure, the experience falls flat.

Unfortunate. I hope they don't make these mistakes in the future.

Golden seals for the acting and the visuals of the game. Ashley Johnson as Ellie being the main focus performed flawlessly and deserves the praise. Everyone else, they were fine, no real complaints from the performances.

The characters of The Last of US Part 2 were much more narrow and unfocused than Part 1. Which really hurt any connection one might develop to them and certain character deaths remain without impact.

Despite Laura Bailey's incredible work with Abby, the character was simply set up to be despised from the start. And all the attempts to make her understood failed miserable. I again refer to the poor narrative structure that caused this.

I congratulate the economical success this game is. But, as a player and fan, I am immensely disappointed.

On Numerous occasions I could see what True Beauty the picture puzzle holds but the pieces are all haphazardly just mashed together that this Possibly Masterpiece of a Picture which would probably reach into your soul and leave a mark never manages to do so.

This is a clear example of why Pacing and Editing plays such an important role in media which is something widely understood with Movies and TV shows and in games as well for that matter but pacing and editing was thrown away for a self indulgent pat on the back.
This is probably the worst paced game I have every played along with being one of the worst Editing in Story and Screenplay I have experienced.
The most heartbreaking aspect is everything was there for another Soulful Experience; all the effort, all the passion, all the good story that the whole of Naughty Dog worked so hard on but Story Execution is in the worst possible order that it really damages the overall experience.

This game is an imperfect gem in the rough that would have been a beautiful Jewel in Naughty Dog's amazing legacy but sadly the decision and cost of being shocking and subversive never allows it to reach the level of adoration it deserves.

The game dumbs down the AI and you win. You move on. Then you find yourself in the same situation. Rinse, repeat, rinse repeat. It got pretty boring.

The game really tries to force you to make quick bonds with the new characters. And I didn't just click with them. I didn't like Dina, I found her annoying and didn't really care for her. Jesse though. He was amazing. Really wished he stayed around for the possible trilogy they were hinting at the end (I'll talk about that in a bit).

Some aspects of the story had feelings of cut-and-paste from a fanfiction post. Like... It felt a 13 year old was trying to imitate 50 Shades. And THAT scene... Very unnecessary and didn't understand why they felt it had to be included.

But now for the good stuff:

I liked how very unsafe all the characters were. Everyone was at risk of being axed from the game. Why is everyone surprised that Joel died? I was totally expecting it to happen. Joel can't be around for very long in the game. It makes some sense to me.

The graphics were obviously amazingly beautiful. It's Naughty Dog. They're good in that department.

Some of the puzzles were a bit confusing but I liked how much detail they put even into rooms that were hardly involved with the story.

I really liked the idea of playing Abby. Seeing everything from her perspective was very eye-opening. Beforehand you were rooting for Ellie and hoped she got her revenge. But then ND forces you into Abby's shoes and to experience her side of that fateful day in the hospital. And her side of events in Seattle. I was like damn. I don't know who to side with. And I know Naughty Dog were aiming for that angle. I think they did that perfectly for me anyway.

The game left you wanting more. When you stopped to play so you can grab some dinner or run errands, LoU2 was the one thing constantly on my mind. I had to play it whenever I could. Sometimes for hours well into the night.

The ending, however, made no sense whatsoever. I mean... Why did Ellie and Dina decide to live in a farmhouse in the middle of nowhere? And why did Ellie spare Abby when she wanted her dead? Tried drowning her and then goes nah mate just go. So many plotholes that I'm sure were intently put there so we're screaming for The Last of Us Part 3.

I agree with a friend of mine who sai that Naughty Dog wrote it how they wanted it and they weren't afraid to really push buttons with the story. They didn't mind killing off main characters and shoving new ones in. They unapologetically made the game their way, no matter how unpopular it may have been.

The game wasn't so bad that it deserves a review bomb on Metacritic but it wasn't great either. It was an okay game. I'm glad I played it and waited when I did.

The gameplay is better but the story is very awkward. I loved the prequel but TLoU2 potentially ruined the franchise.

Mediocre game. The graphics are good, but nothing to really boast about. Gameplay is pretty much the same as the first game. Music is good for the most part and sound design is great. Story is pretty bad. Druckmann is a hack. Bring back Amy.

What a masterpiece. A work of art that elevates the name "game. A unique story, created by masters of storytelling. Thank you naughty dog.

Political trash I came close to putting down many times but what finally did it was when that "boy" is actually a girl they hinted s*** a few times before that but I let it go I knew to expect this kind of crap in this day and age but that part nah forget it. I didn't bother to finish the game just googled the ending seems to me I saved myself a bit time anyway. Great graphics though but that is not enough to save this game from its terrible story. Expand

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. This game should never have received a 95, the fair score for it would be 50 or 60. I played 28 hours and I can speak with all sincerity, this is an average game. Don't get me wrong, but the story of this game is so porously constructed and directed that there are moments that you get lost and tired. Neil Druckmann wanted to implement a whole political agenda within the game, and I succeeded. On the positive points, I can quote 3.

    1° Graphics

Basically, it's all the power of PS4, it's the game that most abuses the capacity of the console, even having downgrade compared to what the naughty dog showed in 2018, is still very impressive and wonderful

    2° Playability

The gameplay of the 1st game was already very good in 2013, here in this game, there was a reuse, expanding and improving what was already stabilized in the franchise.

    3° Violence

The graphic and verbal violence in this game is on another level, everyone is angry and distressed, when you finish a person with Ellie or Abby, it's always with enough anger and in such a violent way that you notice on the face of the characters.

These three points together, they score 40 for the game, but what **** it all up is the story

History would have greater potential if it weren't for all the mess made by the script. Starting with Joel's death, in this game clearly his only use was to do marketing so Sony could sell the game to the community that is a fan of the character and the old game. Ellie, here in this game, completely changed Ellie's personality, I left that funniest and most spontaneous person and an angry and serious adult came in, which didn't agree with her.

Dina, a completely disposable character who doesn't care if she existed or not.

Abby, her story could be something created in a DLC, it would save time and not leave the game so dull and dull. Everything about this character is in exaggeration, Naughty Dog wants you to have that feeling of empathy but you can't feel empathy with this character. She's very rude, very authoritarian, there's no way to empathize with her. They put the key point of her story (Joel's death) right at the beginning of the game and will only explain why she did it and with so much violence after more than 10 hours of gameplay, besides it is not explained why she is so strong, she is very disproportionate, as in a post-apocalypse a woman finds supplements and anabolic to get that size, she is stronger than any male character that appears, it becomes even comical.

But the cherry on the manure cake is the end, it means naughty dog that after we kill all those people, after we lose everything and everyone we had and still lose 3 fingers, you just let Abby go. Why did I spend more than 20 hours killing, stealing, running, all this for nothing?

The last of us 2 is an expensive game that has an ending to a self-help book that costs 1.99. I'm very impressed with the corruption that Sony does when buying these journalists.

Шедевр спору нету, но своё ЛГБТ уберите с экранов, я не хочу чтобы мой ребёнок это видел. Это бич, а вы это показываете как норму. Потому, что у власти сидят такие же больные люди.

The Last of Us Part II is the high point of the PlayStation 4. The plot is controversial, but the game is the incredibly addictive adventure of Ellie, from which it is impossible to pull away from the opening and to the very end.

Not everyone is going to enjoy the motives of The Last of Us Part II. But if you try and manage to accept the subliminal and not so subtle messages as a fact that the world has gone awry and that people have the need to have somewhere or someone to belong to as their own way out, then... You will witness the boundaries of gaming expand. You will witness a true masterpiece.

If you loved the original for its great characters and well-paced story – stay away from this game. However, if you’re aching to sink into the depths of depression, or just want to cut some throats and burn some zombies – Part II will deliver. [Issue#247, p.72]
