Technically, the game is very refined. The environment, vegetation, level of detail - everything impresses. The story varies - a very individual matter. You can't deny that the game arouses extreme emotions. The climate is dense, the game is long enough. Finding finds satisfying. Definitely in my top 5 games on PS4.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. I'm at the half way point. 15h20min in. And the story is mind blowing. Certainly has made me want to seek revenge. The brutality is exactly what I'd expect the human race to crumble into from a world ending event. It's an emotional roller coaster. There is so much misinformation about this game, to clarify Abby does not appear to be transgender, there is certainly nothing to suggest it after the 'tracking' chapter. She's more like Sarah Connor on steroids Expand

Absolutely beautiful game with incredible graphics, gameplay, soundtrack and story. It is a rollercoaster of emotions providing the player with an intense and deep experience like no game has ever done before.

Congratulations to Naughty Dog for creating this game.

Visually, its stunning. The gameplay is less combat focused this time around. There is far more exploration. i appreciated this more than i thought i would, simply because the detail and variety in the world was far greater than maybe any game I've ever played. It never felt like the developers took a shortcut, as so many other AAA developers often do. it felt that they had taken an almost obsessive degree of care in bringing this world to life. I think the balance between combat, stealth, slow paced exploration, cinematic set pieces and narrative, is maybe perfect.

Regarding the narrative, which seems to have provoked a great deal of controversy, its not perfect. It seems Naughty Dog maybe tried to do too much as part of the narrative. A lot of it felt patched together. Its far from bad however. In fact, i think that its intention to reinforce that these characters, as interesting and relatable as they are, are essentially killing machines, feels like a continuation of point it makes at the end of the first game. One theme among those who dislike the game, is that they don't appreciate the depressing tone, but were we really meant to end the original feeling happy? Did we feel that the right choices were made by Joel; the character we're supposed to control? Should Ellie and Joel be anything like the people they were following the events of Part 1?

Like the first game, we are led to believe that the choices being made and deaths that are occurring are worthwhile in order to survive, when in reality, we're killing all of these people without there being a worthwhile ending. Unlike the first the game, Part 2 is incredibly upfront about that fact, making it clear early, with *that moment*.

The post-apocalyptic world is not forgiving. The human psyche is unpredictable and even nonsensical. The Last of Us Part 2 is thematically built around these two points with far greater confidence than Part 1, and it makes for one of the best games I've ever played.

Great, real violence, fear, shock to the point I had never experienced before in any other game.
It was one of the best games I've ever experienced, both in terms of gaming and technical graphics, and of course the storytelling, the game's music, which was a perfect masterpiece.Only in every way I had a problem with the end of the game, it could have had a much better and better ending

Joel’s death serves as the dark reality with which The Last of Us is set. I don’t think the story is quite as good as the first one but it’s still very good. Gameplay is very much like the first The Last of Us (TLOU). It does add more stealth options: crawling and being able to hide in tall grass. And in combat you can now dodge enemy melee attacks. The survival aspects have not changed that much. The amount of items you scavenge has increased slightly (played on hard difficulty). It allows you to use crafted items/ammo more often than in TLOU 1. It seems enemies no longer drop the ammo you are currently using which helps a bit with immersion. There still are pretty much the same limits on ammo and items you can carry. While it is slightly illogical it helps to keep the survival tension very real throughout the game.

Graphics are absolutely amazing and breathtaking. Animations are so smooth and fluid. It makes it really hard to go back to play other PS4 titles. This really looks and feels like next gen. The amount of detail in the world you go through in this game is also really incredible.

Sound and music is also top notch. Really helps with the immersion.

Story is the divisive one. I personally loved it, but as you can see from the user score and some youtuber reviews, not everyone did. But for me it was an emotional rollercoaster and i enjoyed it for most of the journey.

Conclusion: I highly recommend anyone to play this game and if you do want to play it try to avoid any spoilers. I enjoyed the game a lot and have to congratulate Naughty Dog on an amazing game.

I can understand people's frustration with this game, and understand their betrayal. However, I think that's kind of what the developers were going for. This story is going to leave you questioning who is the bad guy in this story. It's a story of cliche revenge, but takes a unique perspective on it. I finished the game feeling unsatisfied, yet content. The story does come to an end, but not how I wanted it, nor how I expected it. The game jumps 4 years since Joel saved Ellie in the hospital in Utah, and fills in that gap through out the game with flashbacks. Some of them are really endearing and enjoyable while others leave more to be wanted.

The Gameplay hasn't changed pretty much at all from the first one. Not the most robust controls in this era of gaming, but the thing about Naughty Dog games isn't ever the Gameplay. It's the stories they tell. It's still a little clunky, but nothing difficult to work with. If you hated the gameplay and don't want more of that then I'd recommend passing on it, but I recommend it to experience the story alone.

This is not a perfect game by any means, but the story will make you ask questions and leave you thinking. In that Naughty Dog executed wonderfully. I haven't played a game that's made me feel so many feelings in a game. I was happy, sad, angry, and frustrated. It was a wonderful experience.

Graphics 10 - Nothing bad to say here, the game is an absolute crazy graphic showcase, it has stunning lighting and particle effects, but the things that stand out the most are the crazy attention to detail on every aspect of the game, like the almost disgusting representation of violence or the the ridiculous amount of details in character models and the best animation system i have ever seen, hands down.

Sound 9.5: Every detail on ambient sound, voice acting and VFX are damn near perfect, it always makes you feel like it's supposed to, is truly immersive. Music is great overall, but some of the songs are lacking a little bit of strength and personality, that's not to say that the sound package is not impressive... in fact, i think this is one of the best sound designs of the year without a doubt.

Gameplay 8.5: All the systems works wonderfully, melee combat is very brutal and engaging, the interactions with the environment while fighting are breath taking. The shooting system feels great overall and the fact that bullets are so rare makes it it feel like a luxury to shoot one. Stealth is very satisfactory because level design makes every combat feel like a sandbox where you can get creative. The only problem for me is that sometimes, the repetitiveness of the game loop can be a little too pronounced, i wish there were more set pieces or moments where gameplay changes a little bit... in a 12 hour adventure (like the first game) this is not a problem, but in a 24 hour one, it can get a little too repetitive at times.

Story 8.0: I can see why a lot of people don't like the story, a lot of parts in the game are hard to watch and play... but i just can't stop thinking this: At last! we have a good true tragedy video game! this is a step forward to the industry, i'm very happy to see video game studios trying to expand narrative to new horizons.
With that said, the execution has it's flaws, the structure of the story can get a little confusing and negatively affect the pacing at times, and there are one or two things that failed to be completely believable to me because some characters are, well... a little out of character.

This game is fantastic in every sense, i respect so much the approximation of the story and the message, it was risky but for me it paid off entirely.

The violence on display is basically worse than rockstar's manhunt -- without all the controversy. So strangely this time it's acceptable. It's also quite fun to off all of these entitled snob kids in the game. It subverts a lot of video game tropes and it really does force you to confront the actions of the main character. It starts out with a fairly straightforward revenge premise and ends up going in all kinds of directions before returning to it with radically changed characters. It's a long and exhausting journey, and so very worth it if you leave your assumptions at the door.

It's not a game for everyone - as the reviews seem to show - but if you enjoy emotional and moral challenges and don't see everything in black and white, then I can wholeheartedly recommend it.

The graphics and gameplay are both improved over the original, with some truly spectacular visuals and very involving set-pieces.

It does suffer from some of the same issues the first one had, however. A few fights (especially with the infected) rely a bit too much on getting lucky or trial-and-erroring your way through the environment, and there is one boss fight which can be frustrating until you find the right place to fight it. There are also one or two flashback sections which might have been worked better at different points in the overall narrative, but given how ambitious the storytelling is, I can forgive this.

If you loved the first one and can go into the second with an equally open mind, then you'll love this. Just be prepared to be made uncomfortable by some parts of the game - they do pay off but you're going to come out of this game with very different emotions than you did with the first one.

But, the game fails if we compare some aspects with its predecessor, the audio is inferior, Gustavo Santaolalla is wonderful but it didn't shine here, but what got me most confused was the fact that in a "zombie" apocalypse they were in a single plot, a bisexual, a lesbian, an extremely strong woman who stays with a married man, three Asians, a Latino, two pregnant women, a homophobe, etc ... despite Naughtydog's effort to include several minorities, this was extremely forced , is contrasting with the scenario that the game proposes.

Pacing suffers at times due to the huge duration of the game being 25 hours for most playstyles it could be easly cut down to 18 hours and still be ok. For the story I don't really get why people are so angry, review bombing, harassing actors and directors alike. It's just stupid and only showcases how immature we are as a community. For the story the idea of the cyrcle of violence can be found in every aspect of every character Abby's and Ellie's revenge how much they have lost in the process and how every action further drives them down a hole. Also for a game who handles so many characters it did and honorable job Lev being a great example for a sidecharacter that I genuinely cared. The idea of violence perfectly translates to the gameplay with some of the most raw and brutal combat you've seen in a video game. You can feel the impact in every hit and the pierce in every bullet and the carnage that the player can do. The atmosphere is also so well put, it never fails to evoke a feel of danger and hopelessness paired with some of the most jaw-dropping art direction. The only thing that the game really suffers is meaningful exploration, scrapping for supplies is ok but after the first few hours it feels repetetive. Instead of safes with more loot you could place artifacts that can trigger flashbacks of Joel and Ellie, that I think would modivate more players to search the environments. Overall the more I think about it the more I love it. I don't support the idea that you have to top the first game or give any fun service if it's the kind of story you want to tell. All the people at naughty dog believed in that story and I can respect that and I can also respect every one who played the game and didn't liked it. All an all I enjoyed the game and I applaud naughty dog for being bold with their vision.

The main problem is the story is very depressing....The most depressing I have ever experienced in a video game, and in the year 2020, that’s not a good thing. This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. It's pretty clear from reading the negative reviews that many of them either 1) decided to hate the game when they read out-of-context spoilers, which wrecked their experience, but they're too immature to see that, or 2) they never played the game, but hate "SJWs" and see a chance to blame SJWs for "yet another game wrecked by their agenda." If you're labeling any game that veers from the "straight white protagonist" format as "SJW propaganda," then the problem is you. Grow the f*** up.

Yes, there's LGBTQ+ plot elements but nothing about the story or the characters struck me as "token SJW characters." Many were angry about Joel's death, but the game gave me the full spectrum of emotional experience within 25-30 hours of playtime. It's classic Naughty Dog, and anyone that thinks the Last of Us would make you feel "safe" clearly wasn't paying attention and most certainly did NOT play the original's DLC.

It's not perfect. The game spends more time on the primary characters (Ellie, Abby) and so the secondary character development suffers a bit. They're not terrible, but none of them approach the memorability of Tess or Bill. The open-world format of Seattle Day 1 dragged a bit.

Still... it's not "a revenge game." Go watch John Wick or play one of the countless games already made on that topic. It's much deeper than that. All of the characters--Joel, Ellie, Abby, Tommy, and many others--have done unspeakable things that were "justified" in their eyes. This game is about what we become when we seek revenge, but also about learning to forgive the unforgivable. This last part is more about Joel and Ellie than Ellie and Abby--how do you make peace with someone that was taken from you?

I'm happy to play a game that surprises me. Subverting expectations NEVER guarantees a great story, but playing it safe ALWAYS prevents a memorable one. Kudos to Naughty Dog, I'll happily wait another 5 years for Part III.

And **** all of you going on about trans characters and other 4 Chan **** Head for the door and come back when you learn to think for yourselves.

First off everyone is review bombing this game. There is a lot of anger out there and we all know why.

I admit I was one of those angry people. I saw the leaks and I was upset. I was made that a game I loved so much with characters I had grown so attached to was taken in the direction it was taken in. I wasn't gonna play it- I was 100% out. I work for a review company and I had the chance to be part of the review team and bowed out. Then suddenly thanks to a last-minute change I found myself playing this game.

I went into it wanting to hate it. I wanted to hate the choice they made. But after beating it- I don't. It is a good game. While I still don't like some of the decisions and while I will always dislike many of the characters I still think this is a really solid game.

    1. I know you're upset over what happened. It works though- it works well enough. It does not make the game worse and it honestly works fine
    2. Even after knowing the leaks I was surprised A LOT. There is a lot packed in here and its great
    3. The story is risky. I think that it's far to dour. I love dark games, I love anything gritty. Real-life is not a nice place and I love media that reflects that. This game is WAY over the top. It's far darker than it should be and its far darker than our reality- or a Zombie reality would ever be. It reflects more on what Naughty Dog thinks of us than on reality itself.
    4. The combat is great. It is ultra-intense, in your face, and violent. You feel every punch and shot and it is jarring and engrossing. It similar to TLOU1 but far more visceral and intense. It really is a strong point here
    5. Graphically it is by far and away the best-looking game of this generation. Even RDR2 is outdone by this masterpiece of graphical design.
    6. There are many features and additions that make traversal and movement better. TLOU1 felt like a game- with very strict constraints. TLOU2 feels more lose and free, and it all feels more natural.
    7. Its engorssing and it's fun. It hooked me and kept me glued in for the entire run time.

    It's not perfect though.
-I would have preferred you play as one character rather than more
-I dislike the choices many of the characters make
-There is no character growth or change... well there kinda is but its not great
-The themes are basically "humans are violent and suck- and you all suck". I am not sure that is very interesting, deep, or necessary- its also wrong. We are living through tough times right now and people have shown they are capable of good as much as evil
-The writing is far too dour. There are no smiles, no respites, no moments of joy. Its just a slog of nasty hatred

The biggest flaw of this game is Naughty Dog themselves. I love their past games I am mad at myself for not giving them the benefit of the doubt considering they are batting close to 1000. But recently, or at least since Uncharted 4, they have taken a really "woke" political stance. They don't include female protagonists (only women- no men- for all of their series) because that makes the story better, they do it because they want to display their own virtue as a progressive company.

I am 100% fine with a company taking a political stance. I am fine with an artistic company taking a political stance. I am not ok with a company putting their politics above making good art, and that happened here.

The themes are basically "humans are evil and rotten" and they bash you over the head with that. Its more specifically "you are evil and rotten as a human". The characters make strange decisions and never learn anything. This is strange for Naughty Dog who are usually masterful storytellers than show growth and change in an organic and interesting way.

The reason why this story is worse is because Naughty Dog was more worried about pushing their theme and narrative than making a good game. The top priority was cleary "send this message" and not "tell a good story".

If the goal was a good story first and foremost than the game would be different.

But it is not a bad game- it is a great game by any standard. But it is Naughty Dogs worse game and its because they allowed their own views of humanity and their own desire to lecture and chastise us come before making the best game they could.

The Last of Us Part II is the high point of the PlayStation 4. The plot is controversial, but the game is the incredibly addictive adventure of Ellie, from which it is impossible to pull away from the opening and to the very end.

Not everyone is going to enjoy the motives of The Last of Us Part II. But if you try and manage to accept the subliminal and not so subtle messages as a fact that the world has gone awry and that people have the need to have somewhere or someone to belong to as their own way out, then... You will witness the boundaries of gaming expand. You will witness a true masterpiece.

If you loved the original for its great characters and well-paced story – stay away from this game. However, if you’re aching to sink into the depths of depression, or just want to cut some throats and burn some zombies – Part II will deliver. [Issue#247, p.72]
